Veltman a doubt for Blank Gameweek 36 as Dunk and Maupay incur suspensions

WOLVES 2-1 BRIGHTON

  • Goals: Adama Traoré (£6.0m), Morgan Gibbs-White (£4.9m) | Lewis Dunk (£4.9m)
  • Assists: Fabio Silva (£5.2m) | Pascal Gross (£5.8m)
  • Red cards: Dunk, Neal Maupay (£5.9m)
  • Bonus: Gibbs-White x3, Traoré x2, Gross x1

VELTMANIA

It will be a nervous wait for Joel Veltman (£4.4m) owners to see if the defender is fit for next weekend.

With only eight fixtures taking place in Blank Gameweek 36, those holding Veltman would have been hoping for appearance points at a bare minimum.

But his no-show on Sunday sparked concerns about his availability for this Saturday’s clash with West Ham United.

Albion boss Graham Potter said of the Dutchman, who is owned by almost 15% of the top 10,000 FPL managers:

We hope [that he will be back for West Ham, it was just a tight calf, a strain on it. He has an outside chance he could be back for West Ham.

DUNKING OFF EARLY

Lewis Dunk (£4.9m) put his ownership through the ringer on Sunday afternoon, heading in a fine opener for Brighton in the first half before seeing red early in the second.

The 9.1% who do have Dunk in their teams are now likely to need an exit plan, with the Brighton captain suspended for Blank Gameweek 36 and Gameweek 37.

The Seagulls’ next opponents, West Ham, could be set to take on a Brighton side missing two first-choice defenders if Veltman fails to make the tie.

That could be good news for owners of or investors in players such as Michail Antonio (£6.4m) and Jesse Lingard (£6.6m).

Brighton lost another first-team player to suspension after the final whistle, as Neal Maupay (£5.9m) saw red following a post-match melee.

Potter said:

I was walking off at the end so I didn’t see what happened but if Neal has been sent off, then it’s something he needs to learn from.

OIL TYCOON

Wolves’ slippery-armed substitute Adama Traoré (£6.0m) caused havoc for Brighton’s ten men on his introduction, racking up three attempts on goal in 30 minutes as he fired home a leveller for Wolves.

“Adama totally changed the game.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

“The boys defended quite well and gave everything but it was too much for us in the end. They had a lot of pressure but not too many chances, but then Traoré came on and stretched the game for Wolves.” – Graham Potter

The only player to take more shots than Traoré at Molineux was Morgan Gibbs-White (£4.9m), who missed an open-goal opportunity late on before smashing in a winner as added time began.

Wolves encounter Tottenham Hotspur (a), Everton (a) and Manchester United (H) in their final three fixtures of the season. That will leave FPL interest limited to their opponents, who will take on a side that have struggled to convince in the last five Gameweeks despite facing a quintet of sides below them in the table.

A further deterrent is that, with a mid-table finish now assured, Santo has begun some end-of-season rotation and is seemingly giving run-outs to his fringe players: Traore, Romain Saiss (£4.9m), Nelson Semedo (£5.2m) and Leander Dendoncker (£4.6m) were the four regulars who made way on Sunday, with the likes of Gibbs-White, Ki-Jana Hoever (£4.4m) and Max Kilman (£3.9m) handed run-outs.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (4-2-3-1): Patricio; Ait-Nouri, Kilman, Coady, Hoever; Neves (A Traoré 61′), Moutinho; Podence (Willian José 71′), Vitinha (Dendoncker 77′), Gibbs-White; F Silva.

Brighton & Hove Albion XI (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; Burn, Webster, Dunk, White; Bissouma, Gross; Trossard (Mac Allister 58′), Maupay, Jahanbakhsh (Moder 58′); Welbeck (Zeqiri 77′).

Lol! True, I was just reading the hot topic from non owners and their justification of not owning, for me he’s a class player both FPL and non FPL wise-this guy is always gonna score always gonna be involved, set and forget, will be the dearest player in the game next year I reckon.

Agree c 57%, most active players would have him just to cover the bases, of course going against is a viable (but dangerous) strategy.

First stab at FH. How's she looking?

    Prickford
    TAA - Digne - Dallas
    Salah - Son - Mahrez - Foden - Jota
    Kane - DCL

    Steer - Stones - Benteke - Mitchell

Pretty close to my current FH team. Still considering 343 with Antonio

      Pickford
      Digne Dallas TAA
      Salah Mahrez Foden Bale Son
      Kane DCL
      (Forster Phillips Mitchel Davis)

      Decent, very close to mine:

      McCarthy
      TAA Digne Dallas
      Salah Mane Son Mahrez Foden
      Kane DCL

      Forster - Coleman - Mitchell - Brewster

McCarthy/ Forster double up is in one of my drafts if I want more funds. Looks like it'll be down to either Bale/Mane 352 or Antonio 343

Yeah, I'd prefer Pickford but can't stretch to him. I think if McCarthy plays he could be a good differential as most won't have him and a decent chance of a cleanie against Fulham. Wolves aren't Leeds but after that last showing I've cooled on the Spurs triple-up, I think there's more upside in the City mids if we get lucky with the Pep roulette (SURELY one of Mahrez or Foden gets a start, and I'm happy for Coleman to come up the bench in the event of a no-show). With Mane it's simply WBA are now down are I don't think he'll be rested after scoring this week, whereas Jota is less nailed. Again, Mane also low-owned.

Antonio is my next choice after the attackers I currently have, think he's a decent pick but West Ham seem to be running out of steam a little.

I expect Moyes to fire them up for the final push. If Brighton watched the EVE game then they need to sit deep and be organised so WHU cannot play on the counter but I don't think Brighton will change their game

Yeah, I think Antonio is a better pick over the likes of Jota, Raphina and Bamford this week, I just can't squeeze him in.

If Burnely beat Fulham then Fulham are relegated. Fulham attack is tame so I like McCarthy/Forster combo. Wolves looking likely to stick with 442 and youngsters playing. Mason will stick with Bale and can see him getting some joy. I think Pep start both Mahrez and Foden. If mahrez doesn't play then that would be 14 days rest until the Brighton game. Foden got 20 mins in the last game. Pep needs to keep his strong 11 ticking over with mins and they can win the league this weekend coming

Thank you, context is I have 11 with Veltman. I'd be keeping him as cheap bench fodder, with the -8 I'd be beching Lingard and Veltman, with the -4s benching Veltman. Team now is:

              Martinez/Forster
              Digne TAA Robbo Veltman Dallas

    Forster (Mendy)
    Dallas TAA (Rüdiger Maguire Shaw)
    Salah Son Lingard Jota (Fernandes)
    Davis (Vardy Ihenacho

A.GW36: Maguire, Ihenacho, Vardy > Mitchell, Bamford, Kane -4

You technically have 6 playing in 36. Mitchell might be a doubt too. Don't know how Brendon sees it. If you are taking a hit get nailed players only. Why not Antonio instead of Kane and a better defender in place of Mitchell?

Yes. B. Bam vs Antonio is a close call. I am going with Antonio just because he is more explosive, has more to play for and Dunk not being there makes him a good prospect vs Brighton.

      Not if you have Mendy.

You need the keeper you bring in to outscore your current keeper by 4 points to end of season. Don't think you even play these over Mendy in 37/38.

I have Kasper on the other hand and will be taking a hit.

a disaster GW! Watkins red card, maguire injury, Maddy and Jota blanking again with Kane. Only 50pts so far and lost my ML top spot.
    Kneejerk reaction is Bruno+Nacho > Aguero+Lingard

    To get this -
    Martinez
    Veltman, Digne, Semedo
    Salah, Lingard, Jota, Reed
    Watkins, Kane, Aguero

    Areola, Shaw, Maguire, Maddy

Any way else to catch up? Thanks guys

There's plenty of games left to be played, I wouldn't go on tilt and make ill thought out moves to correct.

      Is Aguero guaranteed game time?

I look at your team and I think you need to make a move for Trent, not Aguero.

You have definitely have some issues. Maddy, Iheanacho > Raphinha, Antonio. If Veltman is out, you probably have to take another hit for Maguire to another defender.

Expecting a mainly 2nd string eleven from United tomorrow. As a club it’s to their advantage to have Leicester in Europe at the expense of Liverpool. There are going to be lots of complaining scousers this week if Leicester win.

      Bonkers

Do slightly wonder about whether he can keep this up - 54 appearances so far with the Euros to come. I know he claims to want to play every day but that's a backbreaking schedule.

Yeah he had a period after the lockdown last season where he looked exhausted, but not so much lately. If he's rested vs Leicester I could see him being comfortable with continuing for a while.

Slightly forgot about that time he looked tired.

I was wondering more about what it'll do to him short to midterm. If Portugal go all the way in the Euros he'll have played around 70 matches this season I suspect. Can't do him any favours that.

How many pens out of those 27? Not saying he is not good. He is absolutely brilliant. With KDB, Kane, Salah and Kante; in my list of top 5 PL players. A major reason for United being top 2. Just asking.

I'm not sure, I tried to find it for this season across all competitions but can't seem to find it. His pen against Roma in the first leg was his 36th goal for United, and the article remarked "more than half are penalties" - but can't find the specific stats.

PL goals scored table this season is really interesting if you strip out pens. Think it looks like this at the top more or less:

            Kane 17
            Son 16
            DCL 16
            Salah 14

Agreed - though DCL right up there too

Hard to ignore Nacho. He's only just off this table despite playing about a third of a season. He has surprisingly good creativity stats too.

The mental comparison I make for budget forwards is with Jim. None of this lot quite match his consistency in almost never blanking as many as 3 in a row (just twice in 2 season iirc) but bought and held all amazing value.
