FPL Gameweek 32: The Soton + Forest weaknesses to target

In Gameweek 32, two fixtures immediately stand out: Arsenal v Southampton and Liverpool v Nottingham Forest.

The reality is neither of the home sides should have a problem winning but which of their players have the best chance of hauling in Fantasy Premier League (FPL)?

Here, we take a look at three weaknesses Arsenal and Liverpool will be hoping to exploit in Gameweek 32.

NOTT’M FOREST: LEFT FLANK

Teams have been making a point of attacking down Nottingham Forest’s left flank recently, quite heavily in fact, which you can see below.

Left-to-right – The combined touch heatmaps of Man Utd, Newcastle, Spurs and Everton’s players in Gameweeks 31, 28, 27 and 26

It’s been a pretty successful tactic, too, with Antony (£7.3m) and Bertrand Traore (£4.9m) profiting in the last two Gameweeks.

Antony saw a lot of the ball at The City Ground. He finished with seven shots – the most he’s had in a match this season – and no player from either side received more passes in the final third. A week earlier, substitute Traore racked up three shots in the box, including one Opta-defined ‘big chance’, in just over an hour.

Tactically, full-backs Neco Williams (£3.8m) and Harry Toffolo (£4.3m) were horribly exposed at Elland Road in Gameweek 29, so Steve Cooper decided to swap his narrow 4-3-1-2 formation for a 3-4-1-2 for the trip to Villa Park. Williams, in particular, looked far more comfortable higher up the pitch with an extra centre-back supporting behind. However, after conceding, they reverted to a back four, once again exposing their flanks.

Against Man Utd last weekend, they suffered similar problems despite staying in a back three formation, with Renan Lodi (£4.3m) struggling to cope with Antony. It’s also worth noting the front three were often too advanced, which handed Man Utd’s central midfielders too much space and time on the ball to build attacks.

Given the above, Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) are almost impossible to pass up this week.

Martinelli a viable captain this week?

    Looking for a safeish differential

He would be my next choice after Salah.

Right now I don't own Salah and Martinelli has been my captain all week, although I'm probably going to take a hit to get Salah in and C him, but Martinelli has the form and fixture if you don't go Salah.

Which is a better use of hits?

    Salah + Solanke + A.Moreno (-8 playing 11)
    Salah + Eduard (-4 playing 10)

      the -8 for sure imo

Neither are particularly appealing. Don't really like Édouard for a -4, nor do I think Villa keep a clean sheet. Having said that would probably go for A if pushed.

The problem is I can't get Salah in without a hit and weakening my team somewhat.

All week I've been planning a -4 to bring in Eze and Moreno, to give me 10 players but all this talk about how ridiculous essential Salah is, is making me worry that he bags 2 goals and everyone around me has him captain and then I could be like 30 points dropped with only a handful of gameweeks remaining.

        1. Better off with a pin and a…

Is this just for this gameweek - are you WC or FH for 34 or longer? If it's longer term then I think it's justified to get Salah in for this game and the upcoming fixtures, including the double. If it's just for this week then I'm not so sure it's worth -8.

    Thoughts on my FH squad:

    Alisson
    TAA-Tripp-Moreno
    Martinelli - Saka - Salah - Eze/Olise
    Watkins - Kane - Jesus

    Iversen - Andreas - Toti - Bueno

Not so keen on both Tripps and Kane though. I’d pick one or the other.

I've managed to get out the following 10 players without using a FH. My question is whether there is anyone worth a -4 for just one or two weeks week (I'll be WC-ing in 33/34 and FH-ing in 37/38). I'm leaning no at the moment.

    Raya (Kepa)
    Trippier White Botman Pinnock
    Salah(c) Martinelli Odegaard
    Kane Watkins

    (Kepa* Haaland* MacAllister* March* Estu*)

    a) Haaland > Jesus
    b) MacAllister > Eze
    c) Maybe Estu > Mings/Moreno

FH team set but just need to decide on the final starting spot between Eze and Willian.

I wasn't overly convinced by Eze as a pick after watching MOTD in the last 2 weeks, but then I read Everton have conceded at least 2 goals in each of their last 6 away games, and their xGA figures is dreadful reading too. Feeling it's hard to go without

Bowen maybe a good differential for double too.

The narrative against Kane on FH is that no forward has scored more than 6 pts away against Newcastle.

Popular alternative is Solanke who has only twice scored more than 6 pts at home (8 and 9 pts).

Just doesn’t feel right to bet against FPL royalty like Kane for someone like Solanke.

    Thoughts?

I can't see Spurs scoring more than 1 away to Newc.

Bournemouth on form and West Ham are flaky

Think it's a case of deciding how you think the Newcastle v Spurs game will go and pick players on your FH appropriately. Better to go with your picks and be committed in my opinion.

I've got triple Newcastle and no Spurs on my non-FH team and I don't think it's ideal, but I'm not going to worry about it.

Bournemouth have been playing well and putting up good stats for a good number of weeks now. Spurs haven't, and Kane honestly looked invisible in the MOTD highlights I've seen of Spurs in the last 2 weeks (still scored against Brighton mind, but that whole game and result was a complete joke), and personally I expect a big response from Newcastle after last week

That third striker spot is the differential amongst the FH'ers. Most will have Watkins and Jesus. Then there are loads of options upfront:
Jota, Toney, Kane, Solanke the most popular I think.

As a non-FHer I’m delighted Kane seems unpopular on FH - planning ahead going without him last week and this week was my biggest risk.

Friday to Weds so no need to rest players, think will stick to same routine of rest at 70ish when game is (hopefully won)

Arsenal problems aren't up front so can't see him changing

I think the best info we will get before deadline is likely to be whether he is in the squad or not.

true, but I'd assume at this point in the season if he's fit enough to be in the squad he'll start. Zinchenko is so effective in these games where they dominate the ball and Tierney hasn't exactly impressed when he's been called upon

I think if you own him (and are not FHing) and he is in the squad you are compelled to play him either way, but I am less confident than you are! A pessimist is never disappointed I guess 😉

I had a similar issue a dgw 29 with Haaland and I kept him in and paid the price so don't want to repeat that mistake. Also at the top of both my money leagues and feel like taking any hits this late in the season is risky

Andy gets it on his stream and there's a Redit account that's been similarly accurate on the same two tips.

Hazz knows it but I've not saved it anywhere.

    Johnstone

Gabriel, TAA, Robertson (might change to VVD)
    Saka Martinelli Salah (c) Maddison
    Toney Wilson Solanke

Might change Trossard in if we get anymore team news.

    Raya
    Tripper Mee Mings Botman
    Saka Odegaard Maddison Martinelli
    Kane Toney

    Kepa Chilwell Mitoma Haaland

    1ft
    1m itb
    Will free hit gw34

Do I go with Kane or Salah for the rest of the season? Getting Salah would be for a hit this week. Maddison and Kane to Salah and Watkins.

Not really sure it's worth it. Everyone on here has Salah so everyone will say Salah but Kane has been great this season and reserving the Maddison place for Rashford anyway or Grealish, there are loads of mids to choose from not sure rearranging my structure is a good idea.

    Thoughts?

I had a similar dilemma, and ended up transferring out Haaland and Rashford for Salah and Solanke. Will transfer Kane out for Haaland probably GW33.
