I would never play BB GW1, always on a DGW.

Personally prefer a couple of 4.0 def / 4.5 mid or fwd to maximise the money on the pitch and avoid benching dilemmas.

I'm tempted for a GW1 BB. I hate the bench boost chip and always waste it, plus I tend to like doing an early wildcard anyway once I get an idea who is looking good / nailed / which budget players are doing well.

There seem to be a few teams with nice opening 3 fixtures (man u, arsenal, brighton, city) and others with decent opening fixture that are cheap and I then don't mind benching (everton, palace) so can make a decent bench boost team then wildcard one around GW4 when teams like chelsea, newcastle, liverpool will be starting to get better fixtures. Either than or just transfer out any value on the bench and improve without wildcard.

I haven't decided yet, but definitely considering it

      1. Swahealy

I do the same every year and it gives me my biggest haul of the year. Use your second wildcard the week b4 a big double gameweek and have all the best doublers on your team and bench then bb on the double gameweek. Using it GW1 is wasteful imo.

Not worried about Botman, he might drop after the first few tough fixtures but should bounce back and don't want to be using transfers on my 4.5 defs anyway.

      I like A), B) and E)
Trent could be any defender plus change if it doesn't work out, Trippier by GW4 for example.
Foden could be his year and again lots of choice if not, plus I think he gets lots of minutes before Europe etc kicks in
Nkunku could be quality and likely gets minutes too plus some good fixtures.

      C) and D) I'd be too uncertain they are going to play for GW1 picks.

If Darwin is not particularly great in the press why would Klopp identify him as a target?

Unlikely they failed to notice this when scouting him so is it more that Klopp presumed he would be able to coach him to improve this area and it’s either not working or taking longer than expected?

    1. goriuanx
      • 13 Years

Some players take longer to adapt. Klopp mentioned Darwin's lack of English a few times last season. Seems like he's worked on that though.

    2. Firmino
      • 8 Years

Klopp and Lijnders are transitioning Liverpool more to a possession based team. Obviously pressing is still important but with more skilled midfielders (Mac Allister & Szoboszlai) Liverpool should keep the ball better and Darwin's profile could benefit more from this. Should score more goals like Haaland tap-ins from backpost etc.

Agree with Bobby here Darwin looks a different animal this year staying more central and learning the language all points to even more goal involvements than the 14 in 19 starts last year. Guys always gonna be a threat to any defence. United know all to well

Darwin has been in my team from the start and he is staying, think he will have a great season. Just watched Let’s Talk FPL and Andy highlighting him not being great in the press and Gakpo possibly being favoured slightly more.

I like your take on it though and only adds to my optimism.

    3. bench boost for every gamew…
      • 7 Years

It's not about the lack of trying or intensity of pressing which is the problem, it's the skill to know when and where. Could be a language thing, but it could be that Gakpo for example, is just much better in that tactical area if the game.

Watkins (h) to Everton, @ Burnley and (h) to Palace in the opening five GW’s.

Newcastle were solid defensively for the first half of last season then fell away so we should automatically assume they are nailed for clean sheets from the off. And Liverpool defence are generally leaky hence why people are out of going for Trent. Add to that Villa we’re comfortable playing against any team in the league last season, they are a different animal now under Emery.

My guess is that you're right, and that Arteta considers Rice better than Parret and therefore Havertz (or Trossard) less defensive qualities than Xhaka is compensated by Rice. And Ødegaard will be that enforcer, both with and without the ball.

      2. Alan Watts

        Cheers for the clarification...

Question is, did Xhaka already play a more attacking role last season than he normally would have, in Arteta's system?

If he did, then maybe Havertz is more of a like for like replacement than it seems, with Odegaards role not as affected

Is it just me or has the wishlist feature disappeared from the FPL app (on Android)?

Was the wish list even in the game at all last season? I do remember something now you mention it, don't think it was the app though, as I didn't use that for years.

They used to have a notes thing as well but they removed that. I actually used that to plan my transfers :l

        Thank you.

I still think Robertson will get enough attacking returns (at least enough to allow me to benefit from the 1.5M difference to Trent and upgrade elsewhere).

I'm covered by all the big teams but not heavily reliant on any. I have great flexibility to move to other options should they arrive.

Do have Robertson on the bench for the opening day of the season though... 😀

I like it, have been thinking about Robbo. 6.5 seems 0.5 too much, but easy move to trippier.

The downsides of this are no saka and enciso isnt nailed. I guess ur rotating enciso though. Martinelli, well, he has great stats, just the minutes is the concern. You co do Rash>Bruno to do that Saka move, but dont love downgrading rash.

I agree a little too much, easy transition to double CHE (James/Chillwel - if they start well, already have one) or Trippier/Shaw as you mentioned. I think Martinelli will still do the business to be honest. Really don't want Bruno in my team either.

    Best combo from these?

    A) Gabriel, Rashford, Foden, Mubama
    B) Stones, Baptiste, Foden, Jesus
    C) Gabriel, Baptiste, Rashford, Darwin

Already have Bruno, Saka and Martinelli.

    Baptiste/Mubama would be on bench.

    Cheers.

    Thoughts on this?

    Onana
    Gabriel | Estupiñán | Henry
    Salah | Fernandes | Saka (v) | Mbeumo | Eze
    Nkunku | Haaland (C)

    Bench: Areola, Baldock, Kabore, Mubama

    ---

    Positives:
-Front 7 all take penalties + set pieces
-High expected minutes & good pre-season form in a time of uncertainty
-Can leave team long-term and save FTs

    Negatives:
-Hard to get Jesus, Watkins & Rashford in later without using 2FTs
    -No Chilwell
    -Not targeting desirable fixtures

    ---

    Would you do?

    Eze>Mitoma
    Saka>Martinelli
    Nkunku>Jesus

Thoughts? Light in defence, but I think it's worth the gamble?!

    Martinez
    Saliba - Tarkowski - Udogie
    Salah - Saka (C) - Fernandes - Kluivert
    Haaland - Watkins - Darwin
    (Franchi - Pau - Kaboré - Nakamba)
