The second of today’s World Cup last-16 ties kicks off at 7pm in Sochi, as Portugal take on Uruguay for a place in the quarter-finals.
For Fantasy managers, the fixture effectively boils down to Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.1m) versus the meanest side in the tournament so far.
Portugal’s captain has been selected by 32.5% of those who are playing McDonald’s FIFA – no forward has a higher ownership percentage.
Ronaldo is also the only Portuguese player whose ownership exceeds 10%, with Pepe (£6.0) and Rui Patricio (£6.0m) the next-most chosen assets from the 2016 European Championship winners.
After sailing through the group stage without conceding a single goal, Uruguay – and their defence in particular – have attracted plenty of Fantasy investment for this round of 16 tie.
Diego Godin‘s (£5.6m) ownership has soared to 27% and the Uruguayan captain is now the second-most owned defender in the McDonald’s FIFA game behind Marcelo.
There has been money too for Jose Gimenez (£5.7m) and Fernando Muslera (£5.6m) as Fantasy managers back Uruguay to keep a fourth straight World Cup clean sheet and their seventh successive shut-out overall: the two-times World Cup winners have yet to concede a goal in 2018.
No side conceded fewer big chances than Uruguay (one) during the group stage.
Owners of Luis Suarez (£10.5m) and/or Edinson Cavani (£9.5m) have essentially got big-money differentials on their hands, as the Uruguayan strike pair are only owned by 6.2% and 5% of Fantasy managers respectively.
This match could be a set-piece square-off: all five of Uruguay’s 2018 World Cup goals have been scored from set-piece situations, while both sides have made a joint-high total of five attempts from direct free-kicks.
