The tough task facing new Brighton manager Potter

Despite some minor Fantasy interest in his players, new Brighton manager Graham Potter might find it tough to transform their Fantasy Premier League appeal for the new season.

The Seagulls currently sit fourth on the Season Ticker for the first six Gameweeks of 2019/20 and there has been some early interest in their defence.

Watford, Southampton and Burnley are Brighton’s first three opponents at the Amex Stadium, while the first six Gameweeks will see them travel to Watford, Manchester City and Newcastle.

As things stand, both of the Seagulls’ goalkeepers Mat Ryan (£4.5m) and David Button (£4.0m) are in the top four most popular in their position.

22.7% of managers are in possession of the latter, while Brighton’s Australian international Ryan sits in 16.9% of squads.

However, there is plenty of work to be done in Sussex for Potter and his new players to avoid relegation.

Brighton’s second stab at Premier League football was a tricky one, especially towards the end.

They won just three of the last 23 league matches of the season and stayed up by the skin of their teeth, helped by Cardiff City’s failed recovery bid.

We are continuing our ‘Numbers Game’ series with a look at the Seagulls’ underlying data across the pitch in 2018/19 to assess their potential for the new campaign.

I think Son will be to Kane this year what Mané was to Salah last season (although the price gap is a lot less steep)

Tbh for a better comparison I can see kdb/bilva vs Sterling this year being similar to mane vs salah last year

What price will Coutinho come in at? Will he cement a starting place from GW 1 or take longer?

Suspect he is going on speculation that he wants to go back to Liverpool. Unlikely atm

    TAA Digne Zappacosta VVD Fredricks

    Pickford
Robertson TAA Zinchenko Digne A.Smith/ L.Kelly (whoever is starting!)
    Salah Sterling Siggy
    Wilson King

    Bench: Stekelenburg,Dendoncker,Wickham,Stephens.

    Discussion points:
1.Pickford over Ederson/ budget keepers- Everton have the best fixtures on paper. But Pickford's save points gives him the edge over Ederson.4.5 keepers such as Ryan and Pope don't look convincing.Brighton have an attacking manager and will lose Dunk.Burnley have very difficult games, not expecting clean sheets.I think Pickford will be worth the extra 1.0 spent.
2.Wilson over Vardy- Purely fixtures.Vardy would have been a long term pick but in the first two games,do we expect outscore Wilson ? Vardy has Wolves and Chelsea whereas Wilson has Sheffield and Villa.Plus Wilson is a million less.Too good to pass on.

PS- There are a lot of 6.5 and below midfield options but too many question marks over them.As soon as a good, reliable option emerges from the bracket, will downgrade Siggy and upgrade Wilson to Vardy.

    Thoughts ?

I think Pickford overperformed last season...and this year there's a chance Everton won't have Zouma and Gueye.
Personally like Fabianski or Pope more.

Agree on starting with Wilson and switching to Vardy later on

    Ryan
    VVD, Robertson/TAA, Digne, Coleman/Wan-Bissaka
    Siggy, Salah, Sterling
    Jimenez, King, Deulofeu

    Button, 4.5m defender, Stephens, Dendocker

Any advice on what to do from here?

Strange Arsenal line-ups. I started with him last season - really rate him. He did me proud. The butler from Mr Deeds is just too strange with his selections though.

Attempted a draft that contains Auba, Kane and Sterling:

    Ryan
    VVD - Laporte - Digne
    Sterling - Siggy - Brooks - Jorginho
    Auba - Kane - Deulofeu

    Button - Dendoncker - Kelly - Gibson

Obvious downfall was always going to be no Salah, but still managed to get a solid, nailed defence as well as Siggy. Three quality captain options in there.

    Guys,

    2 questions.

Do I need to re-link my FPL team to my account, on the basis that i have a different number this season?

If the answer is yes then how do I go about doing this?

541 with fodder means your bench really offers nothing.

This means you will make the transfers you “have to” as opposed to the transfers you “want/plan to”.

You can’t play with 11 and bench a player for one week if there is an injury doubt or one game ban but you want to take the risk/keep hold for the week after.

I was just wondering am I a dying breed a person who actually watches football games and who plays fantasy football?
I was watching a video with Joe and David - salivating over stats for preseason!
Then Joe comes out with the throw away comment - "famously Simon March won fpl by not watching games" - purely stats.
He continued "The game is mostly about stats mostly not watching it - which is just a part of it"

I have the feeling there was a lot of confirmation bias in that statement as I assume most who win fpl/or do well in it watch the games as well?

I remember Joe also admitted that he rarely watches an actual game when they are on live - so he is obviously heavily stats based.
It was clearly evidenced last year when David got hung up on the 'underlying stats' of Salah through his dry run and lost ground.
Watching the games would have told a different story.

It seems watching the games or the now termed 'eyetest' seems to be almost 'maverick' or not seen as relevant as stats.
Is that what most do now stats first and foremost xg etc?

Personally I see this as a chance to catch those managers who are easily swayed by the underlying stats - as the information overload has brought a whole new generation of fpl players who do not know any better/or anything else?

I realise the lads have to sell stats as it is a major part of the product of the site now - but is it leading to fewer actually watching live games?
Where they can see where your fpl player made a good run but was not seen, the type of shots taken (straight at the keeper/slashed at it) body language etc.
