Improving Burnley on FPL radar ahead of fixture turn

Burnley players are being widely overlooked by Fantasy Premier League managers as we approach the start of the 2019/20 season.

Not one of the Clarets’ first-choice outfielders sits in more than 2.5% of FPL squads at the time of writing, while their most-owned asset – goalkeeper Tom Heaton (£4.5m) – has been strongly linked with a move to Aston Villa.

The collective cold shoulder is warranted, with Sean Dyche’s side facing Arsenal, Wolves and Liverpool in the first four Gameweeks.

As a result, Burnley sit bottom of our Season Ticker until after the September international break.

After that, the picture looks much rosier: Dyche’s troops are catapulted to the top of our Season Ticker from Gameweeks 5-14 and meet only Chelsea of last season’s top six in those ten matches.

With the fixture turn in mind, our latest Numbers Game article delves into last season’s statistics to see if there is any incentive to invest in the Clarets’ players from mid-September onwards.

In honour of Trippier’s transfer, can you improve on this England XI of premier league era players to play for European clubs?

    Hart
    Trippier
    Woodgate
    Dier
    A.Cole
    Beckham
    Ince
    Hargreaves
    McManaman
    J.Cole
    Owen

Lacking height, so Crouch on the bench

More or less spot on, to be honest.

Sancho is too young, but in a few years should be in there, no?

Lineker is the glaring miss, though. Hoddle should be in there as well.

Greta players indeed, but Lineker played years before Premier League era, and never played in continental Europe after, I think.

Lineker is only premier league era if you count his time in Japan, which I don’t.

I guess I meant players whose careers were predominantly in the premier league era, which rules out Hoddle (and Waddle and Des Walker).

Gazza and Platt decent shouts though

Im going to say premier league era means 6 or more seasons at the top level from 92/93 onwards, so Hoddle, Waddle and Platt not eligible.

Walker and Gazza are, so they come into my team ahead of Dier and Hargreaves

Doubting Walker a bit for value. He’s unlikely to get any but very rare attacking returns - those are expensive cs as he’ll also miss a few of course. I’d get Fraser over Siggy and Laporte instead

      1. Chelsea91
        • 5 Years

About the same I’d imagine - not as regular as Laporte but generally in. He could easily get all the games up to international break so if you’re thinking earlyish WC not a bad call.

Just see greater security and potential returns with Laporte - worth 0.5? To me yes.

Liverpools midfield is a minefield. Henderson towards the end of season were playing as an 8. Rotation with Fabinho, Hendo, Millie, Wijnaldum, Keita and Lallana makes it difficult to get a nailed starter. If i were to put money on one of them prob Hendo due to price and nailedness. But a waste considering better options at pool

How about Laporte - Walker and King/Deul - Haller?

I was having the same debate about my front three. Currently on Vardy Deulofeu and King but was working on any combination of these 3 plus Haller, Jiminez, Wilson for a max of 22.5m

The only thing Burnley had going for them FPL-wise was their defence, which seemed to have degraded last season.

Barnes and Wood are overpriced imo

Didn't Burnley have Europa, and also Hart in goal with both Pope and Heaton injured? Hardly seems fair.

        Isn't Heaton off?

I'd like to see if it was actually Europa and not just a change in style from Dyche.

I'd love a strong Burnley defence again, but not gambling on it suddenly reappearing. I want evidence.

Rumours are he is, but no evidence to suggest that Aston Villa have made an offer. They seem too busy buying defenders, which is probably going to be a disaster.

      2. Andy_Social

Exactly. Dyche spells it out in the article, and after they went out their league form dramatically improved.
Two seasons ago Heaton then Pope amassed tons of save points due to the nature of their defending which allowed lots of shots but poor quality ones due to the defender's knack of blocking clean shots. I'm more than happy to rely on the Burnley keeper for my squad. Due to the opening fixtures, I'll not start with a striker though.

And considering the effect of Europa on their small squad, I'm steering well of Wolves, other than a donkey for the bench.

OK, this is not so much a RMT, more a discussion document. I have listed my team with explanations but would be interested to hear other peoples views supportive or not (first will be its just a bloody RMT by another name)! Anyway here goes
Begovic, Gunn ( rotate well and save points more that CS)
Dunk (happy if he stays, happy if he goes to Leicester, nailed on for 4.5)
Digne, VVD, Laporte (normal 3 at the back sure to start CS potential)
Salah, Sterling (marque players, where hopefully points and captaincy come from).
Perez ( a risk but a proven scorer at Newcastle who could really shine here).
Gundogan (another risk but I feel this will be his year at City).
Kante (will be back in his preferred position under Frank, goal and assist potential for a great price).
Wilson, Jimenez (I believe these two have the potential to score as many points as Kane or Aguero at a much reduced price).
Adams (probably the biggest risk but by now I'm on a very limited budget and I like being scared on a Saturday).

Kante I’d have had under Sarri but not back to his old spot - surely reduced goal assist potential.

Gundogan - great player and potential value but so far from nailed I can’t consider him.

Begovic - long way from nailed and Howe switching goalies mid season turns me off any Bournemouth option.

Vvd and Laporte are a dicey combo for me. Cs potential of course but likelihood of very uneven attacking returns. For two thirds of last season they were the poor man option. One not both imo

    First draft:

    Heaton / Steer
    Robertson / TAA / Digne (Diop/Rico)
Fraser / De Bruyne / Pogba/ Sigurdsson (Dendoncker)
    Kane / Jiminez / DCL

Too much Everton but great fixtures

not a fan of rotating goalies, but to each their own strategy
    agree with the defenders
Gundogan and Kante are too risky/low FPL value for me, but I guess you have to make sacrifices somewhere to afford the rest

Just a quick question if anybody has any ideas or answers.

I joined a public league for Fantasy Draft. It was my first time and i thought i got some ok players then i saw this transaction go through.

Player A to Player B and it was accepted... How on earth do you compete with that ??

    Digne for VVD
    Zinchenko for Kyle Walker
    Angelino for John Stones
    Pereyra for Milivojevic
    Wijnaldum for Maddison
    Rodrigo for De Bruyne
    Ings for Murray
    Wesley for Aguero

kinda weird...since it's a public league, the members are random. Just one person fooling around then. One more reason why draft usually doesn't work. Unfortunately, because I like the process of doing the draft itself

            • 7 Years

I did think that but it there is something going on for sure. The person who got the better players already has

            Aubameyang / Robertson / Alisson / Silva / Mendy / Ederson / Tielemans

            Now to include

            Walker / Stones / Milivojevic / Maddison / De Bruyne / Maddison / Aguero

Just comical that i ended up in this for my 1st draft...
