Improving Burnley on FPL radar ahead of fixture turn

Burnley players are being widely overlooked by Fantasy Premier League managers as we approach the start of the 2019/20 season.

Not one of the Clarets’ first-choice outfielders sits in more than 2.5% of FPL squads at the time of writing, while their most-owned asset – goalkeeper Tom Heaton (£4.5m) – has been strongly linked with a move to Aston Villa.

The collective cold shoulder is warranted, with Sean Dyche’s side facing Arsenal, Wolves and Liverpool in the first four Gameweeks.

As a result, Burnley sit bottom of our Season Ticker until after the September international break.

After that, the picture looks much rosier: Dyche’s troops are catapulted to the top of our Season Ticker from Gameweeks 5-14 and meet only Chelsea of last season’s top six in those ten matches.

With the fixture turn in mind, our latest Numbers Game article delves into last season’s statistics to see if there is any incentive to invest in the Clarets’ players from mid-September onwards.

Looks decent, just not sure about Zaha and his mindset, plus AFCON. Bench also looks a bit thin with only one probable starter, but I guess you know that already and are happy to take the risk.

Cancelo rumoured to come. Don't think Pep fancies Danilo too much, if the whispers are to be believed, so should Walker should start IF Cancelo is not signed.

I would say Leicester will be favourites in 3 of their first 5 matches, and Bournemouth probably only in 1 (maybe 2) of their first 5 matches.

          Agreed

Generally I think people are getting carried away with Bournemouth as an attacking force - their numbers aren’t as exceptional as their reputation. The exceptional part is how Fraser and Wilson hog the returns imo.

Those two I believe work best as mid to long term holds and not for specific fixtures. They drop out only for really red fixture runs.

          1. Sgt Frank Drebin
            • 7 Years
            4 years, 9 months ago

Bournemouth was 7th in terms of goals scored last year, behind the Top6 teams and Wilson had 1.11 returns per game against the non-top6 teams so this is why I think it is best to have him when their fixtures are favourable

            1. pingissimus
              • 5 Years
              4 years, 9 months ago

I’ll likely have Wilson too in combination with Fraser.

My point was slightly different. It’s just those two that are exceptional. Everton Leicester WH Watford and Palace all scored a very similar number of goals - within variance I’d argue - especially if you look back at 2017/8. It works out as an extra goal every 8 games or more

Bournemouth are not goal machines - those two are exceptional the team is average in attack for a midranked side. Reputation over numbers.

Oh yes good point. By the way Vardy is a good option too.

                  He is at that

I’m probably avoiding as I will be likely getting Perez. The Bournemouth double up is a known quantity and I think worth running with for 4 games or so. The other is a wait and see.

Yes I agree. However I am considering Brooks as I can't afford Fraser for now.

Wouldn't you mind to share who will you have alongside Wilson in attack? I have decided so far for 4-4-2 but have problems picking the 2nd forward. Atm I have Jota but participation in EL in addition to their short bench is worrying me.

Ok I’m Salah free which you may not like and distribution in defence I don’t quite know yet

                        Fab
                        TAA VVD xxx yyyy
                        Sterling KdB Fraser Perez
                        Kane Wilson

That gives me 10 to complete defence or 10.5 if I switch Fab. Probably get a 4.5 and premium.

KdB is my real headache. Mo I’ll get once all the big 3 are up and running around week 4 probs. Either Kane or Sterling makes way.

Generally I’m happy to take at least one hit early

I’d add that Jota and Jiminez are also very viable picks if you discount EL.

Wolves scored notably fewer goals but given they both had GA of over 50% that becomes much less relevant

        3. Sgt Frank Drebin
          • 7 Years

they don't need to win for Wilson to score goals. Besides I'm not sure Leicester are favourites against Wolves away and fixture 6 and 7 is United away and Tottenham at home so I think the number of fixtures you chose for analysis is a little bit objective

    8. Marmalade Forest
      • 6 Years

      Plan to switch between them.

      Wilson 1/2. Vardy 3/4.
      Wilson 5-7.

Picking the best players against the weakest teams is traditionally the best way to score points.

As long as your bench isn’t complete fodder, you don’t get “unlucky” with injuries, bans and rotation, you’ll have the FTs

This one went a bit under the radar yesterday, don't think there was a Scout tweet about it, but Villa signed Björn Engels from Reims for a fee believed to be around 9m.

Former Belgium youth international, centre-back, 24, 6ft 4ins, also played for Club Brugge and Olympiacos.

Short quote from Dean Smith: "Björn is a player that I've been watching for the past 18 months. We're very happy to have secured his services and look forward to working with him."

Possible starting centre-back with Mings, although Konsa could also play. First friendly overnight in the US.

Pre season starts mean nothing. people getting in Greenwood will be hugely surprised when he gets benched all early games. Sanchez is due back soon after his injury.. and besides look at that bench.. martial if he shows hunger is another first team contender.

Yeah but I'm not getting Greenwood to start him. Will be my bench fodder with some possibility of small returns

I hope Greenwood does nothing pre-season. If he excels every man and his dog will have him. If he underwhelms it's just us 4% that'll stun you all 😉

    How’s she shaping up?

    Ryan Button
    Digne Robertson TAA Taylor Diop
    Salah Sterling Siggy Perez 4.5
    Wilson Deulofeu 4.5

Still not set on starting without a City defensive cover, but I feel like I’ve substituted that with plenty of attacking potential with those full backs.

Same quandary here, e.g.. Laporte versus Perez/Tielemans (see below).

It’s a difficult one, think on balance the easiest way into the City defence is through Ederson.

    A) Perez 442
    B) Jota 433

Other player is a 4.5 sub, so playing 433 is more likley to get a playing mid sub..

    1. CONNERS
      • 5 Years

I'd probably start with Perez and see how Europa affects Wolves league form.

If you can't see much between them, 433 with a playing sub is more sensible imo.

I'm starting to think my final decision regarding formation will come down to whether to go with a Leicester mid or another premium def.

Difficult one - what do you reckon?

    1. aapoman
      • 10 Years

Same. If I pick a Leicester mid then I'm most likely running a 352. If not then 433.

BBC: Liverpool have included 35-year-old English goalkeeper Andy Lonergan - who is a free agent after leaving Middlesbrough - on their pre-season tour of North America because of a shortage of cover.

If ppl are stuck with a 4.5 forward I think Wickham could get more game time than Greenwood or Nkteiah
He will have less competition but it all depends on his fitness etc.

    1. aapoman

For me the 4.5 forward slot is the same as final spot on my bench. So most of the times it is a difference between 0 and 1 points. Not really concerned about that

I'm not convinced they'll be as bad as Huddersfield or Fulham, but do foresee problems with creativity and going forward, so targeting defenders coming up against them may become a tactic.

One to watch but slightly over priced, sometimes get stuck out on the wing and Pogba is main penalty + set piece taker.
I think the cons out weigh the pros.
Martial or Sanchez could be better OOP choices for ManUtd attack.
