Analysing the FPL assets Lampard has to choose from at Chelsea

Fantasy managers will very likely learn more about Chelsea assets from pre-season than they can from the Blues’ performances in 2018/19.

There has been a regime change at Stamford Bridge this summer, with Frank Lampard being appointed as head coach following the departure of the Juventus-bound Maurizio Sarri.

As a result, there’ll be a different system and style in place in west London next season to the regimented 4-3-3 ‘Sarri-ball’ we have become accustomed to over the last 12 months.

Lampard has already experimented with a 4-2-3-1, a 4-4-2 diamond and 4-1-4-1 in Chelsea’s pre-season fixtures so far and the aggressive press that he favoured at Derby County has been in evidence, too.

READ MORE: What Fantasy managers can expect from Frank Lampard

We Fantasy managers are also faced with the task of preparing for life without Eden Hazard for the first time in seven years.

How well the Blues can cope with their talisman’s exit is uncertain, particularly as their two-window transfer ban is still in operation.

There is still something to be gained by looking at the statistics from last season, however, to see which areas Lampard may need to address and which players could possibly shine following Hazard’s departure.

Do people actually believe in Kane's 'August curse' in 2019? Fair play.

    That aside;

    a) Wilson & Richarlison
    b) King & De Bruyne

    Cheeeers.

Yeah I had Zinchenko but I am worries about game time and I think WB might just surprise a few people with some assists. Would love to have tripper but pretty sure he is leaving?

Like this team. Personally would go Zinchenko over AWB and Perez over Brooks. Maybe even Fraser over Siggy to upgrade one of the 4.0s. But reasonable minds can differ.

Cheers mate. Yeah it basically comes down to

        A. Siggy and Brooks
        Or
        B. Fraser and Perez

I would say Fraser and Perez, but it's a very close thing and both options should be fine.

Only thing I am a little uncertain about is Perez's role at Leicester. With Tielemans, Maddison and Perez all attacking options I think I Siggy is safer but yeah your right both are decent options.

  4. JJeyy

    A) KDB and Vardy
    B) Sterling and Zaha

Think this is close, which option is better?

    1. Twisted Saltergater

It's not really comparable as you haven't listed a striker in B.

I wouldn't want to start the season without Sterling. If push came to shove, I would start the season without KdB and Vardy.

      1. JJeyy

It’s a formation change depending on the option the other player on both is either a 4,5 mid or striker

Can be anyone else in that price bracket forward or mid. It is basically the debate of sterling or spread the value

I have Sterling + King. I quite like the 7.5 - 8 mids, but I've seen quite a few with Perez at 6.5m. He's picked up an ankle injury so check for news on that.

I see quite a few TAA or Robertson + VVD. Anyone going with both the fullbacks?

I find it interesting that there was a lot of debate over which of Robertson and TAA was the better pick last season, and they're essential almost regardless of price this season. 🙂

Is there a player < 7m that is going to score more points? I can't really see one as yet.

I'm going with both. Easier to downgrade than it is to upgrade and I think they're both going to be chipping in with goals and assists alike.

As said above they're all good picks. For me it's about squad elsewhere and funds.
Wilson is seen as top p8ck by most but he's my 3rd choice due to price - right or wrong.
Both Fraser & King are in my plans as is Brooks..... just think 3 is too much..2 tops imo.

Nketiah more complete player (is 3 years older so would be expected) but can see Greenwood being the better FPL option, tryna displace Auba & Laca is a lot harder than Rashford & Lukaku, Greenwood looks like he may play on the RW too

I’m a Utd fan and expect Nketiah to be given chances this season - Ole’s said a lot about giving youth a chance and that is the Utd way. He’s like 17/18 but he’s been doing really good in the reserves etc.

Do they have good starts when their first game is away from home? Wouldn't mind seeing that stats on that.

As it happens, I fancy Bournemouth to score vs Sheff Utd, Spurs to score vs Villa and Liverpool to score vs Norwich. Brighton might struggle under new management, hence the Deulofeu pick.

not that I've heard. I think it's likely Pope gets the nod, but we should know by the time the season starts.

A Burnley keeper for 4.5m is a no brainer.

Yes, it's not ideal, but we know with Burnley that they're set up to be tough to beat. They all work hard for each other, and the fact they don't score a lot of goals or make a lot of successful passes, means their goalkeeper has a good chance of bonus.

                  There's also this hot topic.

I know Greenwood is a popular bench fodder 4.5 striker but is anyone considering actually having him in the starting 11?

If the noises coming out of Old Trafford are true that he could be a starter for United it would make him an absolute bargain and even if he's on the bench and comes on for the last 20 minutes or so, I think he'll have just as good a chance of getting a score similar to the likes of King/Jota/Deulofeu.

The extra 2.0 allows you to put together a pretty strong team such as:

        Ryan
        TAA VVD Digne Zinchenko
        Salah Sterling Siggy Fraser
        Vardy Greenwood

He is likely to get minutes and might even start some games but very unlikely to be a regular starter this season. He will be the 3rd option as a striker (even if Lukaku leaves, a replacement is likely to arrive) and there are too many players who can play on the wings including Martial, James, Mata, Sanchez, Dalot, Lingard.

Other than Martial most of these players haven’t had a great performance last year but it seems like they are unlikely to be leaving this summer, so it would be unrealistic to expect they’ll be left out of squad altogether.

Please note: If you're not starting the season with Ryan, don't get Button. He's the highest owned 4.0 keeper, meaning many casuals will get him based on ownership alone (saw a lot of this last season) and then ship him out when they realize he does nothing, probably in search of a rotating keeper for their starter. That price will almost certainly drop merely due to the effect of casuals in the market. Try gunning for 4.0 keepers with lower ownership, because players who start the season with those are a lot less likely to be expecting points, so sales should be slower

Context. Having Ryan and Button means you want a starting keeper and his cheap backup, so you're always guaranteed a keeper for the GW. If you start any other keeper, it would take unprecedented luck for Button to also start when your keeper has a freak injury/illness before the match or something. So the value of Button as a backup to Ryan is more than just a filler in your squad. Whereas, if you're starting the season with any other keeper, Button is merely a filler... Making price drops rather unnecessary when other 4.0 keepers are likely to be stable

FFS is a tiny subset of "everyone". FPL hit over 5 million users last season, and a high percentage were NOT the fact-checking caliber of managers we see on here

The market is markedly affected by casuals. This showed one too many times last season, in annoying ways sometimes. As someone who was new to the game just two seasons ago, I can testify that the draw of highly owned cheap players is there, and not everyone who opens the site/app to choose players is carefully checking if that player will start or not... Until it hits them. Proof: Son is in 1.5% of over a million teams at the moment

Also, wouldn't hurt to just go with an uncommon 4.0 fodder just to avoid the annoying drop, would it? That's all my advice is really saying

It's all relative. Price drops are based on a % of players removing a player. If you take a keeper who's owned by 100 players and 1 player takes him out you'll get a price drop.

          Flip side:

As with Peltier, Kamara and CHO last season (is Greenwood the new CHO? I see you, Kelly), you can avoid high-ownership price-drop traps at the beginning of the season, then buy 'em as third subs when their prices drop

Yeah. I'm starting the season with Greenwood, actually (current draft)

Just got scars from last season. I think it was Kamara. Didn't have the spare FT to kick him out until he was 4.3 😀

Classic FPL myth. Even 'the casuals' know he's a non-starter. Players aren't going to use FTs on bench fodder players unless a 4m keeper emerges which looks unlikely. They might change him on a wildcard but that won't effect price changes.
