Man Utd set for Triple Gameweek 35 as clash with Liverpool is rearranged

Manchester United will have a Triple Gameweek 35 after the Premier League announced that their postponed clash with Liverpool will take place next Thursday.

The Red Devils will also face Aston Villa and Leicester City in the next set of fixtures, with all three of their Gameweek 35 matches taking place in little more than 100 hours.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops will also have a Double Gameweek as a result of today’s announcement.

The soon-to-be-deposed reigning champions will take on Southampton on Saturday before they visit Old Trafford.

United will still blank in Gameweek 36 as a result, while Liverpool will be at home to Championship-bound West Bromwich Albion.

REVISED GAMEWEEK 35 SCHEDULE

MANCHESTER UNITED

Sun 9 May: Aston Villa (A)
Tue 11 May: Leicester City (H)
Thu 13 May: Liverpool (H)

LIVERPOOL

Sat 8 May: Southampton (H)
Thu 13 May: Manchester United (A)

REVISED GAMEWEEK 35 FIXTURE MATRIX

*Thanks to moderator Legomane

WHICH UNITED AND LIVERPOOL ASSETS STAND THE BEST CHANCE OF STARTING ALL OF THEIR GAMEWEEK 35 MATCHES?

Earlier in the week, we had a two-part look at which Double Gameweek 35 players stood the best chance of avoiding a benching in the upcoming set of fixtures.

The article linked below has been revised after today’s announcement and now includes Liverpool, along with an amended entry for Manchester United.

CHANGE OF CHIP STRATEGY/TRANSFER FOCUS?

Liverpool's front four toil at Anfield as Newcastle assets creep onto FPL radar

Today’s announcement was seismic but it doesn’t change some things.

Manchester United, for example, will still blank in Gameweek 36, so the situation remains that any Fantasy managers going all-in on the Red Devils in Triple Gameweek 35 will have to either have a strong bench, an exit plan (possibly involving hits) or an unused chip up their sleeves.

Those on a Free Hit, of course, will have no such worries.

What it does perhaps alter is a greater chance of two or more starts for most of their key players in the upcoming Gameweek, even allowing for a benching along the way.

Liverpool players suddenly become even more attractive – although that was immediately the case as soon as Sunday’s match was postponed and it became clear that the game wouldn’t be rescheduled for Gameweek 34.

A double-header against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, as had been mooted in some circles, would have been dreamland territory with regards to the Gameweek 35 captaincy and triple captaincy. The fact that United now play thrice, and one of Liverpool’s fixtures is at Old Trafford, may temper interest in Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) and co when it comes to the armband discussions.

But the Reds being one of just five teams who have two fixtures in Triple Gameweek 35 and an unaffected match in Blank Gameweek 36 is a boon for chipless FPL managers and Wildcarders alike who are investing in players for the entire run-in, not just a one-off Gameweek.

While the addition of Liverpool to the Double Gameweek 35 contingent does give chipless managers a greater chance of getting more players out with two games, those FPL bosses with Free Hits and Wildcards in hand still have the advantage of focusing mostly on the next seven days without being too concerned about the decimated schedule in Blank Gameweek 36.

IMPLICATIONS FOR OTHER TEAMS

The best Neto replacements and whether FPL managers should stick with Fernandes

Today’s shock announcement will not just affect Liverpool and United.

It could, first and foremost, also be good news for Leicester City assets.

The Foxes now have an extra day of recovery ahead of their FA Cup final appearance on Saturday 15 May, which could alleviate some of the rotation risk – if there ever was any – for that clash with United. The temptation for Brendan Rodgers to hand some of his key players a breather may partly depend on the results of the weekend fixtures, however, and where they leave his side in their ongoing push for a top-four place.

The game against the Red Devils is also the second of United’s three fixtures (or four, if we include tomorrow’s UEFA Europa League tie against Roma). Would Ole Gunnar Solksjaer perhaps rotate against the Foxes with one eye on Thursday’s clash with Liverpool, then?

Aston Villa, United’s first Triple Gameweek 36 opponents, will also be hoping for similar favours from Solskjaer on Sunday.

Haha fair enough. He looked very very good tonight though, creating and calmness in front of goal, I think if it wasn't for rotation threat he could become an amazing fpl asset. Maybe next year 😉

I think Greenwood fitter than Rashford with dodgy ankle and Cavani who is getting on in years - also James likely out so can see Greenwood play 2 and part of 3rd game

Pogba plays in his position though if cavani starting too. Think it depends if cavani starts vs Roma, if yes then Greenwood should start 2 for sure.

Feeling pretty good about my team. I can field an entire team of individuals with DGW, but one is Tyreek Mitchell. Sitting at 3.8, I added him on a WC to create budget for other players. He played over the weekend. Chances he plays in both games for Crystal Palace? Would you start him over a single-game Son, Lingard or Bamford?

      Strong.
Losing Coady is a no brainier.
Son is the risk. But, Son 1 game vs Greenwood 2, possibly 3 games is most likely worth it.

Fwiw; I had Son in my draft team until Utd got the TGW.

Somebody has to be sacrificed right
I’d lose him in 36 anyway so just deciding if I forego with the double to fund others. Still happy to keep Kane

Alonso owners (how I’m still a owner I just don’t know).
What’s the plan? Keep or sell? Probably more burning issues to solve.

Bruno almost nailed to be over 200% EO. So, even if you captain him you are likely to lose rank. Do you cap him to soften the blow or go differential? I'm 99% locked in on TC Greenwood barring injuries.

Doubt so many have TC left till. I reckon he could be between 180-200 but it still doesn't make a difference. Greenwood a good differential if you're ready to take the punt.

Makes sense. Might just be a tad under 200. Greenwood locked for me unless he gets injured.

It is kind of boring as you're right, bruno will be close to 200%. I dont think we'll have another kane though, not enough TC left for that. Does just make the captaincy really boring, go bruno and cheer for him to blank or whatever, doesnt make a difference.

Makes sense. Depends on where you are. If you are happy with your rank, Bruno (c) makes sense. If you're chasing, Salah, Greenwood, Jota are decent punts.

He'll be 150-170 especially that Mark isn't getting him

    Martinez
    Shaw, Castagne, Phillips, Rudiger
    Salah, Bruno, Lingard, Son, Saka
    Kane, Nacho

    McCarthy, Veltman, Lingard, Bamford

    1.2m ITB, 1 FT

BB GW35, FH GW36. The plan was Philips and Son to Digne and Greenwood, but I now need a second keeper to BB.

    A) McCarthy, Veltman & Son to Guaita, Digne & Greenwood (-4)
    B) McCarthy, Son & Bamford to Alisson, Greenwood & DCL (-4)
    C) McCarthy & Lingard to Forster & Greenwood

    Sanchez | Areola
    TAA Shaw Phillips
    Salah Son Lingard Saka
    Kane Vardy Iheanacho
    ¦ Pereira Coady Lowton

    A) Coady -> Digne
    B) Coady, Lowton -> Digne, Vestergaard (-4)

A, Taking a hit for a defender is generally not a good idea, and definitely not a Southampton one.

I keep checking fplstatistics to see if I need to get Greenwood in before his price rise, as I have exact money, and his percentage keeps shifting up and then down again. Is this usual? Never really monitored this close before.

It seems weird, he is on only one blue arrow and so is Shaw.

Maybe more people have realised they're playing Roma tomorrow and have decided to wait but it's generally a bit of a gold rush.

Fix has him at a lower percentage (+67%) but rising 6% per hour, which seems more believable.

Fpl stats way better. Don't trust fix anymore, they've been really wrong for me alot so I don't trust them

Pretty certain he won't rise tonight. Normally slows down around now, he needed to be at 101 already for it to be sure. Hopefully plenty others are sensible and will wait until tomorrow

Yeah it's just that he was at 92 and then back down to 88 then went up and down again. Making me worried that the site has broken as I've never seen that before.
