The Community Round Up

The imminent return of premium powerhouse Sergio Aguero, coupled with the poor form of Alexis Sanchez, ensured there was plenty of advice from our community writers and hot topic posters for those looking to freshen up their squads. Fifth midfielders, team form, Chelsea’s malaise and the best striking options are amongst issues covered, as we also catch up on the best Members stats and latest from our community leagues.

The Community Articles

Our community writers have been full of good advice this week about the key transfers to consider going into the weekend’s matches.

The Sarjeant offered up his latest colour coded look at team form, while YMA was on hand with his latest bookies based predictions. Also keeping a sharp eye on the betting markets was Jarvish, who has looked to spread betting to see if they can help make up our minds for the best options this weekend and beyond.

Meanwhile, Rakkhi has used the international break to take stock and look back at recent history to see what we can learn from Gameweek 12 table toppers of the last four years, in terms of strikers and teams looking to continue their fine form. The week’s key bandwagons are also analysed in Rodellegabomb‘s look at the most talked-about players ahead of this weekend’s games.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With injuries mounting up over the international break and Manchester City on the verge of welcoming back injured forward Sergio Aguero, the community has been craving advice on freshening up their forward lines.

Owners of Manchester City’s injured striker Wilfried Bony, such as Sin Espinas Comaderia – Havana Gila,  are amongst those pondering whether to draft in Aguero sooner rather than later. Mr Alex though is less convinced the Argentine can hit the ground running.

There are certainly plenty of other strikers to consider, in particular Olivier Giroud, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, in our discussion on forward options.

With funds needed for the likes of premium options such as Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, cheap fifth midfielders are back in vogue. Bournemouth’s out of position budget midfielder Josh King is among those Eden Hazardous is eyeing up. But Scored with a Sheep believes King may find himself back on the bench before too long, according to murmurings from the Dorset coast.

Fifth midfielders were also discussed in our look at how best to free up funds in our squads, which also considers the merits of favouring a cheap defender with kind fixtures to lead our substitutes benches.

Amongst the more expensive midfield options being discussed was Liverpool man Roberto Firmino. Irish Madrista has been leading the praises but even he is wondering if it may be folly to punt on him now.

Another midfielder where caution is being exercised is Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, who, as Saniul pointed out, goes into Gameweek 13 on the back of poor form and possible fatigue after playing 180 minutes for Chile over the international break. The same cannot be said of his team mate Mesut Ozil, who took a break from international duty to spend time on the Arsenal training ground to add to some of the impressive assist and creativity statistics highlighted in Zasa‘s regular pre-Gameweek stat attack.

The entire Chelsea squad, including once prime midfield targets such as Eden Hazard, are being given a wide berth due to their poor form. Despite a fine upcoming schedule, our discussion on Chelsea’s disappointing campaign so far suggest many will continue to distance themselves from Jose Mourinho’s men.

Midfield fears continue amongst Southampton’s ranks for Roscola, who points out that after an international break Sadio Mane is more likely than not to find himself on the bench.

Just how many hours during our working days do we spend chatting about Fantasy Football? Doolittle is about to find out when some changes in his office take effect on Monday and he will no longer be able to access the site at his leisure. As one of our most popular posters, we hope he still sneaks in the odd visit during the day and can still find time in the evening to post.

On the subject of popular posters, this week we revealed who had attracted the most votes from the community for their comments and hot topics. The full top ten can be found here.

The Members Tables

Fantasy Football Frog has picked shots in the box as his key guide to finding the best midfielder to draft in.

    Deulofeu or Bolasie??

I feel with Everton's options that if deu has two bad games he is likely to be dropped but Bolasie isn't.

Also noticed that Deu gets subbed off pretty much every game where Bolasie never does.

Who are you guys thinking is the better shout?

Yeah, I was considering him as a fourth but figured it would be worth spending another transfer on him later if he performs given how cheap he is. Still, Mitrovic > Kane is worth the risk.

I was wondering if Ozil would rise, he was a few percentage points off IIRC.

Oxford is the first 3.8m defender of the season, which is good for those who want a really cheap non-playing fifth defender.

I prefer Ozil to Sanchez this week. My thinking being that WBA will sit deep and try to frustrate Arsenal. Sanchez thrives on space in behind and can struggle against two banks of four, whereas Ozil seems to find space against any team and will keep looking to stick the ball on Giroud's beautiful bonce with those crosses of his.

I don't think they can afford to park a bus after two losses on the bounce. They've also conceded the 3rd most chance at home in the PL.

This is one of the few home games when their fans will accept them parking the bus. I agree about the chances though, which is why I'm considering Ozil captain.

Yeah that's fair, Alexis can always explode. Have you seen the drop-off in his stats since Walcott got injured and Giroud came in though? Check the last four gameweeks versus the previous four, quite startling.

Of course they want their team to win - sometimes against the best teams keeping it tight and playing on the break is the best way to win.

                Conceded:

3 at home to Chelsea, 3 at home to Everton, 3 at home to Leicester, 3 at home to City.

I never made the point they wouldn't concede, I said the way that they play would suit Ozil better than Sanchez.

Sanchez(c) will seem like such an obvious move in hindsight if he scores. Explosive player, strong stats, against a team who have shipped quite a few goals at home. Also a bit of a differential captain this week....

Wait, why aren't I captaining him?

Completely messed my hit maths up. Even with the transfers I've made I'd have to take a -12 to get Aguero in. Thought it was only a -8 for next week......

Ah well, I've at least made moves which doesn't completely block the move if I want to do it.

Happy that I did not make any moves tonight--probably would not have regardless of the rises/drops. But I'm kind of bitter about the fact that FFF showed Bony at only about half way to dropping, minutes before he dropped. We're not talking about a minor mistake, but an outright failure to be anywhere in the ballpark. As I said, I would not have made the move anyway, but that is a bit disturbing for the time you might want to make a move.

As a general thumb, be careful of anyone in and around 90% to rise or fall. Try & go by FPLS if you can, EJ. They're more accurate, though using both to cross reference is a better idea. FFFix seems to throw a lot of sh*t at the wall, if you know what I mean 😉

Yeah all the sites seem to be a bit shoddy on falls - using a combination of sites usually gives the best results. With falls I'm generally not taking the risk and just doing the transfer if I have any suspicion it could happen.

Really like Liverpool's upcoming fixtures after City. Only issue is he still seems to not get in the box much, or at least very few shots in the box.

Yes. He's the jewel in that attack IMO. No Europe, will play if healthy, probably in the prime of his career.

If you are schedule-fixated, you wouldn't pick him. Which is a leg up IMO. He's in my upcoming transfer plans.

Nah, for the flaws you've mentioned.

Think I'm more likely to go for Henderson/Milner if either of them start looking promising.

Watch Can tomorrow and see how attacking he is. Thats the most defensive role hendo can take up. He might play there or on the right. Either is good at 6.6 with set pieces as well

Since I missed out on Bony price fall/Lukaku price rise should I just bench Bony this week? I don't have a FT.

Mahrez Sanchez De Bruyne Ayew Bolasie
              Vardy Pelle (Bony)

              the rest starting? Sanchez, Vardy?

sounding like Bony will not play. Lukaku for 4pts is still a decent option. But will he score +4 over your 1st bencher?

Wow, did Payet > Cabaye just a couple of minutes before th price changes just in case I don't log on tomorrow. Nowhere near a price rise according to FFF and he went up!

Oh right, think I might switch sites then as FFF has been off with rises this week. Had Cabaye in the 70 something % range.

              Just clarifying...

Sell Ighalo at 5.2M, buy Lukaku at 8.6M
              3.4M difference

Sell Ighalo at 5.3M, buy Lukaku at 8.7M
              3.4M difference

In the first case I will have to wait for Lukaku to reach 8.8M to enjoy a price rise, whereas in the second case I will have to wait until he reaches 8.9M.

So I brought him in before the rise.

I'd probably have waited so I had a higher resale value on Lukaku, but it wasn't worth the risk of Ighalo not rising

If you bought at 5.3 and he's not 5.6 you'd be able to sell him for 5.4

I currently have De Bruyne warming my bench..

But hear me out before you start calling me crazy, along with many other obscenities. Lack of form since the emergence of Sterling in the City side, along with Liverpool starting to clean up their act defensively. Plus the fact that all 4 of my other mids are doing the following..

Özil - 8 assists and a goal in his last 6. But a Pulis defence I hear you say.. yes, a Pulis defence that has conceded in 4 of their 6 home games this season. Plus Özil has registered attacking points against the likes of Stoke, United, Watford and Spurs, all of whom have better defences on paper than West Brom.

Mahrez - After Gameweek 11's catastrophe of benching Mahrez, I'm sure I'm not alone in not taking that risk again. My only doubt being that, 'if' Vardy plays and Leicester get a penalty, Mahrez will hand the ball to his record chasing colleague (presuming he has not registered one already).

Deulofeu - The man on form for both club and country, with 6 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games in all competitions. He'll be coming back from the Spanish U21 team full of confidence against a Villa team still coming to grips with Remi Garde's philosophies.

Tadic - Everyone is saying to bench Tadic out of this lot, but why? The guy is central to Southampton's rise up the table after their slow start. With 1 goal and 2 assists in his last 4, he's in better from than De Bruyne in what is a nice fixture at home after the International break. I made the mistake of not trusting my gut last week when I benched his 8 points.

My front three consists of Vardy, Lukaku and Pellè. None of whom make sense in benching to me.

I'd be very intrigued to hear your thoughts on my thoughts and also your thoughts on your thoughts regarding this.

Had Ozil captain up until I got Lukaku in so definitely play him. Bench Deulofeu, the kid can't finish and assists aren't that great in terms of FPL.

Mahrez to bench since that won't happen second time.
