The Community Round Up

The fall out from last weekend’s FA Cup matches dominated discussions as our hot topic posters began planning in earnest for blank fixtures and impending double Gameweeks. Watford’s malaise also comes under scrutiny, while our community scribes get to grips with team form and fans’ views ahead of this weekend’s matches. Aerial heroes and on-pitch villains are the focus of our latest Members tables and we also find out who the best crystal ball gazers are in our community tournaments round up.

The Community Articles

With a break from the Premier League over the previous weekend, Kavali took the opportunity to look in more detail at the Fantasy Premier League careers of the 34 veterans he is tracking this season. While their pedigree is not in question, his analysis shows that experience has counted for little in this most unpredictable of campaigns, in which Leicester are the surprising frontrunners to claim the Premier League trophy.

As The Sarjeant’s latest colour coded form guide shows, Leicester’s dominance of this year’s Fantasy season is no fluke as they look to cement their lead further when Norwich visit in Gameweek 27. There was more advice for this weekend’s best assets from the fans themselves, thanks to Bolivian Seaman‘s research.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Amongst the most surprising FA Cup results last weekend was Crystal Palace’s victory over Tottenham. While this was bad news for Spurs fans, it was a cause for celebration amongst Fantasy managers as the North London side escape a blank Gameweek 30 and make planning far easier for that weekend, when FA Cup quarter finals take place.

As our discussion on Gameweek 30 planning shows, the ability to now field popular picks such as Harry Kane that week have given the community the chance to make a luxury move or two.

Renewed confidence in being able to field a strong team in Gameweek 30 has also started to shape our planning for Gameweek 27, when the Capital One Cup final means Manchester City, Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle all miss a fixture.

However, for those looking to load up on Spurs assets immediately, Mousa Dembele’s absence through injury over the next two weeks may curtail their points potential, according to my latest research.

Faster return on investment is predicted for Leicester’s assets in Gameweek 27, when the Foxes take on Premier League whipping boys Norwich. Ktk_interista weighed up the merits of captaining one of their two key players, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy, for this plum tie.

With every blank comes a double Gameweek and based on UEFA scheduling, Gameweek 34 and 37 look the the likeliest times to schedule more matches. Balders dropped by to offer some great advice around wildcarding and getting the most out of FPL chips over this period. Licious Lizard also offered some key tips on double Gameweek planning and even Manchester City’s misfiring midfielders are attracting interest for their impending double fixture.

Although they haven’t quite reached the dizzy heights set by Leicester, Watford have impressed this season and look to have already secured their Premier League status despite a recent dip in form. Hornets’ fan Applebonkers took a look at why his side’s performance have been so poor in recent weeks and believes that the recent hectic fixture schedule, that has included cup games, may be a key factor.

The Members Tables

Two of our newest members, Eden Hazardous and Pochecinno, have already got to grips with the statistics on offer by constructing some useful tables. Eden Hazardous’ Bloopers table looks at this season’s biggest under performers, while Pochecinno has being looking at the teams with the biggest aerial threat.

Elsewhere, Doosra has been assessing some big-name stars that are falling foul of FPL’s Bonus Point System and Andrewlimkh’s focus is on the best and worst goalkeepers in recent weeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

With a lack of Premier League action last weekend, Jarvish’s popular FA Cup Yes/No competition took centre stage amongst our community competitions. The latest soothsayer-in-chief in this predictions contest proved to be Greenwindmill, followed by Costa.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Yeah agree on that for your team. I'm doing it bc I'm 1 FT short for an 11 in GW 30 and felt like a CS for him this GW would negate the hit.

    Morning DZ,

Have narrowed my move down to Firmino ->

    A) Arnie
    B) Siggy

Arnie makes most sense on paper (AVL, NEW up next) but Siggy is in form and SWA have great fixtures after the next two. I also have a decent front 8 so can bench Siggy next week for ars.

    Whatcha reckon?

    Hennessey
    Bellerin, Wolly, JEvans
    Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet, Alli
    Kane, Vardy

    Elliot, Simpson, Moreno, Firmino, Aguero

Did Firmino to Arnautovic myself. A bit of a punt to be sure, but next two fixtures could not be better, he's been Stoke's best player this season, and he's on pens if Bojan is not on the field. Worthwhile punt.

    GTG?

    Hennessey
    Walker - Monreal - Daniels
Sanchez (VC) - Ozil - Payet - Mahrez - Alli
    Vardy (C) - Costa

    Forster - Nyom - Aguero - Simpson

Tempted to put the captain on Sanchez as a differential, but that's crazy, right? I just hate going too template.

Fair enough. But if Sanchez and Vardy were to score the same amount, I benefit more - relative to others - by captaining Sanchez due to lower ownership.

Same score just means you could have captained Vardy. You still get Sanchez single points regardless.

    2. DF

It's a bit too risky for me.
For it to pay off you're asking for a Sanchez haul and a vardy fail.
I think you'll get the haul but not the fail making the move absolutely pointless.

Actually, if I get the haul it's not pointless because few in my league have him. So I'd still benefit (by half) from Vardy scoring but will get double my rivals for the Sanchez haul. At this point I'm looking for calculated risks to close gaps - nothing totally nuts, but a little different.

Not decided atm. I think after GW 34 would be better as we can field 11 DGWers in GW 34 with 1-2 hits

Probably 33. It seems 34 will have the fewest matches, so best to get things set up with 15 DGW players for that week. Then a TC in 37 seems in the cards.

Leaning towards wc in 33 in order to bench boost for 34.

From Balders' hot topic, there should be a way of fielding 11 in gw35, even without hits. It may mean loading up on Liverpool players, though. It will depend on the FA Cup semifinalists, obviously. But they should be known by gw30, barring replays.

Thing is I need to take a hit. Both Henn and DDG have a blank in GW30. So it's best to take the hit this GW when Butland has AVL/NEW isn't it?

Can't expect much from Williams this week and yeah I'll have to take that risk with Antonio, he did his job for me and he'll leave around GW29.

          It's free points in GW30.

          Siggy/Eriksen are long term.

If I do get a Stoke mid,
            I'll play him in GW27,28 and 30 (AVL,NEW,SOU)
Get Siggy in GW29 for Antonio and bench the Stoke mid.

            This gives me AVL,NEW,NOR,SOU.

Defence is decimated with red cards and injuries

    lloris -- henessey
williams daniels --- souare* darmian* simpson*
alli sanchez mahrez payet --- firmino
    kane vardy --- kun

1- logical to take a hit to field 11? essentially only a 2 point hit
2- removing a def (darmian?) and firmino makes sense? or removing two defenders?

    A: Darmian + firmino >> wolscheid + arnautovic (-4)
    - Darmian long term inure
    - firmino has 2 blanks in next 4
    - not keen on arnautovic but can't think of other options

    B: Darmian + souare >> wolscheid + Vvd (-4)
    - already have Hennessey and palace fixtures are crap so souare not adding value to team
    - since I am not keen on arnautovic, Wil do firmino >> silva in gw29

What should my top priority be with dgws in mind...

      1. Yes. Worth a hit.
      2. I'd say 2 defenders bc better mid options could emerge later.

So I'll say B, but get Huth/Fuchs instead of VVD bc I can't see a Soton CS this week and Leicester defence is equally or maybe even better long term.
