The Community Round Up

The fall out from last weekend’s FA Cup matches dominated discussions as our hot topic posters began planning in earnest for blank fixtures and impending double Gameweeks. Watford’s malaise also comes under scrutiny, while our community scribes get to grips with team form and fans’ views ahead of this weekend’s matches. Aerial heroes and on-pitch villains are the focus of our latest Members tables and we also find out who the best crystal ball gazers are in our community tournaments round up.

The Community Articles

With a break from the Premier League over the previous weekend, Kavali took the opportunity to look in more detail at the Fantasy Premier League careers of the 34 veterans he is tracking this season. While their pedigree is not in question, his analysis shows that experience has counted for little in this most unpredictable of campaigns, in which Leicester are the surprising frontrunners to claim the Premier League trophy.

As The Sarjeant’s latest colour coded form guide shows, Leicester’s dominance of this year’s Fantasy season is no fluke as they look to cement their lead further when Norwich visit in Gameweek 27. There was more advice for this weekend’s best assets from the fans themselves, thanks to Bolivian Seaman‘s research.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Amongst the most surprising FA Cup results last weekend was Crystal Palace’s victory over Tottenham. While this was bad news for Spurs fans, it was a cause for celebration amongst Fantasy managers as the North London side escape a blank Gameweek 30 and make planning far easier for that weekend, when FA Cup quarter finals take place.

As our discussion on Gameweek 30 planning shows, the ability to now field popular picks such as Harry Kane that week have given the community the chance to make a luxury move or two.

Renewed confidence in being able to field a strong team in Gameweek 30 has also started to shape our planning for Gameweek 27, when the Capital One Cup final means Manchester City, Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle all miss a fixture.

However, for those looking to load up on Spurs assets immediately, Mousa Dembele’s absence through injury over the next two weeks may curtail their points potential, according to my latest research.

Faster return on investment is predicted for Leicester’s assets in Gameweek 27, when the Foxes take on Premier League whipping boys Norwich. Ktk_interista weighed up the merits of captaining one of their two key players, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy, for this plum tie.

With every blank comes a double Gameweek and based on UEFA scheduling, Gameweek 34 and 37 look the the likeliest times to schedule more matches. Balders dropped by to offer some great advice around wildcarding and getting the most out of FPL chips over this period. Licious Lizard also offered some key tips on double Gameweek planning and even Manchester City’s misfiring midfielders are attracting interest for their impending double fixture.

Although they haven’t quite reached the dizzy heights set by Leicester, Watford have impressed this season and look to have already secured their Premier League status despite a recent dip in form. Hornets’ fan Applebonkers took a look at why his side’s performance have been so poor in recent weeks and believes that the recent hectic fixture schedule, that has included cup games, may be a key factor.

The Members Tables

Two of our newest members, Eden Hazardous and Pochecinno, have already got to grips with the statistics on offer by constructing some useful tables. Eden Hazardous’ Bloopers table looks at this season’s biggest under performers, while Pochecinno has being looking at the teams with the biggest aerial threat.

Elsewhere, Doosra has been assessing some big-name stars that are falling foul of FPL’s Bonus Point System and Andrewlimkh’s focus is on the best and worst goalkeepers in recent weeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

With a lack of Premier League action last weekend, Jarvish’s popular FA Cup Yes/No competition took centre stage amongst our community competitions. The latest soothsayer-in-chief in this predictions contest proved to be Greenwindmill, followed by Costa.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    Hi guys,

    My current team:

    Butland, Henne
    Dann, Daniels, Martin, Moreno*, Simpson*
    Mahrez, Ozil, Payet, Alli, Firmino*
    Vardy, Kane, Kun*

I know by using my single FT I can have my starting XI but with Martin playing. Should I take a hit to swap him out or keep him in sub?

My plan will then be: Simpson + Firmino --> Fuchs + Arnie

Been struggling for 2 weeks with a decision.

Keep Martin as a sub, no need to take hits for no real reason.

That's the thing...in order to keep Martin as a sub, I have to take a hit. I have 4 players having blanks. 🙁

It is not often that I am excited about a defender transfer, but it is a bit of a relief to finally not own a Dawson, and owning Fuchs for those Leicester fixtures should hopefully bring some returns!

It's really difficult choosing who to captain between Mahrez and Vardy. Mahrez has only scored one goal in the last nine game and he's not on penalties anymore(don't know if it'll stay that way) but at the same time Vardy has only three double digits hauls in the entire season(that's because he's scored more than one goal only in three games) compared to Mahrez's TEN double digits hauls.

Vardy seems like the safer option but not much possibility of a big reward.

    1. Reedy
      • 13 Years

I think Mahrez's brief barren spell is over now. Losing penalties - assuming he has - is a blow, but recent returns and promising fixtures ahead suggest he's one to watch closely right now.

So, I'm almost set now for this week, with my 1 FT to decide whether I go 3-5-2 or 4-4-2.

10 of the players I'd surely play are.

    Butland,
    van Dijk, Bellerin, Huth/Nyom,
    Mahrez, Alli, Ozil, Payet,
    Vardy, Kane.

My other five are Ruddy, Aguero, **Barry, **Moreno, and Nyom/Huth.

So, with 3.1 in the bank, what is the best thing to do?

    A) Moreno to Alderweireld (or someone you suggest) and play 4-4-2.
    B) Barry to Shaqiri/Arnie/Khazri (or anyone), and play 3-5-2
    C) Save this FT, and play both Huth and Nyom (which will mean I have zero bench players).

    Help me out here. 🙂

    3 up and 1 down.

1st place in my league did Lukaku to Vardy then and still doesn't own Mahrez.
3rd place now does after doing Firmino to Mahrez.

Think i'm set on Mahrez captain now, fancy him to be involved as he been in the majority of Leicester's goals this season. Mahrez is more exciting to watch, and is the better overall player so gets my armband. Screw the stats

Lol nice one. But i look a bit silly ignoring the recent stats, and then loving this one because it's in favour of Mahrez

I have come around to my thinking that individual player stats are very volatile....as they say form is temporary , class is permanent

haha. Well he's not had easy fixtures lately so most tables won't reflect well on him. I cherry-pick stats all the time.

If there weren't so many good captain options this week I would be tempted to punt on Ozil (C)...I mean United's defence is just so bare-boned that it's hard not to see Arsenal scoring a few goals in this game.

I really want to captain Kane over Mahrez this week but his previous game against Swansea still gives me nightmares!!

I am all over Kane for stats, but without Dembele I am very concerned. I think Vardy over Mahrez.

Mason should play in Dembele's place and last season that was great for Kane

Spurs with no Dembele and Kane as a slight doubt would make me want to go Mahrez in your position 🙂

I just haven't thought about captaining Kane as there is no Dembele.
