The Community Round Up

Wildcard fever gripped the Fantasy Football Scout community this week as initial Fantasy Premier League (FPL) squads were ripped up to make way for this season’s emerging stars.

Our hot topics focus on the players being acquired and discarded, while our community writers look at long-term planning as well as the value of bookies odds to Fantasy managers. We also catch up on how Chelsea’s defence is faring in our latest Members tables and find out who is top of the charts in our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Wayne Rooney and Eden Hazard are two of the most prominent heavyweights falling out of favour with the community. With their ownership plummeting, Dr Claw put forward the pros and cons of discarding Manchester United’s Rooney, while jkdeclan looks at the arguments for and against dumping Chelsea’s Hazard.

In looking for alternative captaincy contenders, Your Mum’s Athletic has been investigating whether paying close attention to bookies’ odds can help Fantasy managers. He’s also popped down to the bookies to serve up the latest odds going into Gameweek 3 and how they may influence our captaincy decisions.

Meanwhile, Andy85wsm dropped by to help the community pinpoint the best Manchester United full back to draft in, in the light of their two clean sheets so far this season. Rodallegabomb was also on hand with his look at the prospects of the latest bandwagons.

Finally, Jarvish is amongst the eagerest of beavers with his look ahead to the second half season and the best potential times to play the new chips FPL have introduced.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With the gentle flutter of Wildcards transforming into a typhoon, there was plenty of discussion this week over the merits and pitfalls of making wholesale changes to our FPL squads. In our hot topic on the issue, both wildcarders and non-wildcarders put forward their cases.

Demi is amongst those wildcarding and put forward his justification for the move so early in the season here, while Beavis has been taking a look at the community’s emerging wildcard template.

A crucial consideration in Wildcarding is to ensure new squads look ahead as much as look back at the best performers so far, according to John Terry’s Dog’s discussion on advanced planning.

There was a raft of names put forward this week for both Wildcarders and non-Wildcarders alike. Balders made his case for drafting in Memphis Depay, after his stunning brace and assist in Manchester United’s Champions League qualifier this week.

Stoke’s surprise summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri is on Arvin-ation’s watchlist, while Sheeit has been urging the community to consider Swansea’s underlying statistics king Jonjo Shelvey.

For Dat Guy, Bournemouth’s kind fixture run should not be overlooked, while the Railwayman has been keeping a close eye on Norwich’s midfielders.

Manchester City’s Alexsandar Kolarov has been one of the most frustrating Fantasy figures of recent years, with bench-warming duties alternating with surprise points hauls. But with some fine displays so far this season, Jaffalicious wonders whether he has finally thrown off the “Lolarov” tag. Your Mum’s Athletic joined the discussion on the defender later in the week to analyse just how often he makes last-minute cameos in matches.

For those looking for other differentials, the community had plenty more names in the frame in our hot topic on Wildcard punts.

With every player brought in Fantasy managers wave goodbye to another, with Wayne Rooney one of the highest profile departees this week. Here Jaffalicious takes a look at just how poorly the Manchester United striker has performed recently. AV-B has turned his attention to Eden Hazard and whether Manchester City’s David Silva is a sensible replacement.

There were plenty of Rooney and Hazard owners featured in our weekly Rough with the Smooth hot topic, which gathers your tales of woe and joy from the latest Gameweek.

Jafalad was also cursing his decision to draft in and captain Southampton winger Sadio Mane. Champ, meanwhile, was air high-fiving Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager’s decision to leave Champ’s captain Theo Walcott on the bench saw his armband switch to Liverpool’s goalscoring striker Christian Benteke and enabled his first substitute Riyad Mahrez, who also got on the score sheet, to come into his side.

For those whose start to the season has been atrocious, Kings of Lyon had some words of comfort, as he recalled the Fantasy managers in recent years who clawed their way back to respectability in his Who Wants to be a Millionaire league.

Mark may be in need of some words of comfort as well ahead of next week’s Scoutcast after Facer was amongst those to spot a large and very fast spider behind him during Monday night’s broadcast.

Finally, visitors of the more welcome variety were discussed in Beavis’s hot topic asking if any of our community had met each other in real life.

The Members Tables

Has age finally caught up with Chelsea’s defence? D1sable’s latest table looking at the worst back lines this year certainly indicates that may be the case.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

After Gameweek 2 Mr Robot has taken a lead in @OCPRODIGY’s Scout Picks Challenge, which is based around our own Scout Picks.

Meanwhile, the first round results of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA tournament, based around the Champions League, can be found here.

The community’s big spenders are battling it out in Epic Fail’s £100 entry ‘High Rollers’ cash league. The current leaders in joint first are Blsoe Badger and D1sable.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, 2690 teams survived after 172 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 24.

Andy continues his fine start in FPL and holds on to first place in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league. He has a commanding 36 point lead over second placed Applebonkers.

In AZ’s cash league waytooaddicted takes the lead followed by Djenko Unchained in second.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

    Hey guys.

    Milner (ars)

Not too early, lots of people went this week. Up to you. I think Costa + Aguero + Haz is too much in 3 players. Sinclair + Fletcher + Hoolahan = weak mid. I would transfer Haz or Costa and upgrade the mid.

Morning all. After trying to catch a few rises have to complete the WC team today. Bit of a long post ahead as want to lay out reasoning

    Ruddy
    Williams/Darmian/ Richards
    Hazard/Silva/Sanchez/Maherez
    Aguero/Sakho/Wilson

    Rudd/ Westwood/Targett/Gomez

    0.3 ITB

GK- Happy to stick with this

DEF- Yes long term doubts over Gomez and Targett v short term, a little more team value and Targett to a 4.5

MID- I really want Silva. Yaya and Gomis up front or Silva and Wilson was the choice. I have stuck with Hazard. My main aim is Mini League with mates and all teams will still have him, bit of cowards choice but need to keep him to cover a potential haul. Haz, Silva and Sanchez a bit of a piggy bank, down one and upgrade striker if one gets on form

FW- Very Light weight i know. Apart from Aguero cant see one i really want. Playing the fixtures a little with Wilson, Sakho we will see. I am in a minority but haven't been on Gomis and have the 'feeling' hes not that good, fixtures stiffening? Maybe i am creating excuses not to get him?

Please feel free to tear this team apart, i think the 2 major decisions were 1, keep Haz? 2, Gomis and Yaya vs Silva and Wilson.

    Thanks in advance

My first opinion was that your team is pretty decent for having Aguero + Haz + Silva + Sanchez. That's 45/100 of your budget! Kinda crazy, but who knows, anything could work this season. The weak part is that you have to rely on Sakho + Wilson every week. I wanted Silva too, but would rather have Sanchez. I love Hazzie, but feel like he is going to have a slow start again.

You have one defender whose time is probably limited after the international break and another who may or may not be a regular starter. I think I'd want to firm up one or the other.

Too many eggs in the basket of Kun, Haz, Silva, Sanchez. I'd only go with 3 of the 4.

I'd get rid of Haz but be ready to flip back to him if need be by jettisoning one of the others

G2G? Used my wildcard this week because my team was a disaster:

    Rutland
    Darmian Kompany Ward Richards Francis
    Sanchez Yaya Chadli Mahrez Hoolahan
    Aguero Pelle Gomis

I know it is fairly "template", but still thinking about Francis -> Huth or doing something different with the keeps. I have 0.3 ITB.

Resisted the urge to captain Mane over Hazard/Aguero. Too early to get cute, hoping the Hazard bounce back is this week and Aguero does slightly worse.

Historically, United usually do well against Newcastle. Our wingers also do well. Ronaldo did get his first hattrick against Newcastle so maybe Depay might.

Ok so done some WCding to catch rises and wondering should I stick with Lukaku or Barkley since I have .1 invested in them or just go for the longer term team?

Have a slight plan to swap lukaku out for tekkers after he rises (hoping he notches something the weekend to help his case)

Also, A decent keeper to go with McCarthy... Thinkin Butland or Myhil? ...I like Myhil more but he has Chelsea next, possible keeper coming in and Foster will be back eventually... maybe so on Butland atm.

I wouldn't want to keep both but I think 1 could be a very good move. Everton look good and could take it to some of the bigger teams. The Everton lads are strong differentials on here right now.

I was going to Keep Lukaku and get tekkers next week, I also have some money spare for a possibbe Silva upgrade too, it's the safest option but i want it all!

Happy with the perma 3 defence!

Here's my initial plan... before I got too greedy...

              http://i.imgur.com/1qj9R7f.png

I can ride Lukaku for that extra .1 then swap to Tekkers by downgrading Richards to someone... Richards himself might rise too.

I also have money for Yaya > Silva too if that takes off

...That was my initial Wc plan but Depay has thrown a spanner in the works now... I just can't fit him in without losing someone good!

See I like that team a lot better. It has some nice balance too it and looks easier to adjust.

Depay could be gold but I feel as if you can't have them all. Remember United are still struggling in the league.

Yes indeed but he has come close and has some good stats, what happened to him midweek (all be it against an injured Brugge) was the final conversion

I may leave him out but leave space for wiggle room. So very likely keeping lukaku!

Is Mahrez worth the extra 0.6 compared to Albrighton? I'm still on Mahrez and have made a little bit of money from him, but switching from Mahrez to Albrighton would allow me to upgrade Muniesa to Sagna.

So, another way to put it:

    A) Mahrez + Muniesa

    B) Albrighton + Sagna

Ah, gotcha. I'm probably just looking for permission to save 0.6 🙂

He played very well at the end of last season, seems heavily involved early this year, and is on a lot of set pieces. I worry about losing ground if Mahrez keeps up this pace, but that 0.6 sure would come in handy. I'll figure it out in the next hour.

good luck! I had Albie end of last season and he saved it..but now Mahrez is on pens and on form and in the hole, he feels like a Kane-bargain to me, and Leicester love to attack

Shaw v Darmian is a head-scratcher isn't it? From two games, we know one has a slight attacking edge and the other has a slight bonus point edge.

I am looking to get Williams in but not sure how to do it.

1 - Changing a GK (not sure which one - probably Butland to McCarthy)

    2 - Richards + Ward ---> Oxford + Williams

    3 - Kompany + Ward --->Kolarov + Williams

4 - Leave this team as it is
