The Community Round Up

Basking in the glow of a sensational Gameweek 8 score, many of the community were still counting up their goals and assists long after the final whistle last Sunday. We glance back at another sensational display from Sergio Aguero and Southampton’s players and look ahead to the coming Gameweeks, with hidden Fantasy gems and new managerial appointments dominating discussion. Elsewhere, we catch up on the latest Members tables as well as find out what effect last weekend’s goalfest had on our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Swansea’s dip in form while Tottenham and Crystal Palace’s ability to finally find their feet this season are the key issues discussed in Rakkhi’s team trends analysis of the first eight Gameweeks.

Congratulations to The 3rd Turd whose analysis of Fantasy Football radars and bubbles have earned him £20 Amazon voucher after winning the Community article of the month vote for September.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Liverpool’s sacking of Brendan Rodgers and wooing of former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was amongst the hot topics discussed during this week’s international break. Berbinho’s Forehead’s focus was on Rodgers differences with Liverpool’s transfer committee, while Numb pondered whether Klopp will flop.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott was dramatically dumped by John Terry’s Dog as his affections move across the capital to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. His break up letter to the Arsenal man proved a real tearjerker.

Trigg has been asking which have been the community’s worst transfers. Could dumping Walcott be added to that list when it is refreshed in a few Gameweeks time?

There may be some more broken hearts should the community’s hidden gems for the coming Gameweeks fail to shine.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand was among the key names mentioned as differential prospects and was also discussed in Rodellegabomb’s hot topic on the Saints more settled backline.

For the second year running, Gameweek 8 proved pivotal to many of our community who backed Southampton’s assets, as well as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero with the captain’s armband. Last season Aguero scored four against Tottenham, while Southampton humiliated Sunderland. Both were at it again this season, with the Argentine striker scoring five against Newcastle and Southampton putting Chelsea to the sword. A more detailed look back at what was a week to savour for many can be found in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the Bookies say update.

The spooky coincidence of Gameweek 8’s repeated success for many of our community also sparked a discussion on other illogical Fantasy Football folklores.

In the more immediate future, though, Aguero owners are facing a nervous wait to see the extent of an injury picked up while on international duty for Argentina. Here we look at some of the potential scenarios and contingency plans should he face a lengthy lay-off.

Another star of Gameweek 8 was Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. His two wonder free-kicks against Swansea inspired Demi to start a discussion on Europe’s best free kick specialists.

Amongst the community, EnglishNo7 was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Gameweek 8’s goal-a-thon. He finds himself at the top of the Fantasy Premier League Fantasy Football Scout league and dropped by to deliver some words of wisdom for his fellow Fantasy managers.

Finally, while FPL is the main game for much of our community there are plenty of other Fantasy Football games out there, from weekly contests to draft games. Here the community offered their thoughts on coping with the multi-Fantasy football experience.

The Members Tables

For those eyeing up Southampton players, I’ve made this table looking at their key attacking assets. Elsewhere, Doosra has made this table looking at this season’s best deadball specialists and the Sportsguy has turned to shots on target to find the brightest midfield diamonds.

Giggs Boson has been looking at those players that are scoring well from few opportunities or shots on target. There was further discussion around this ‘lethal or imposter’ table and the ways it can be interpreted here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

There were some huge scores in round 2 of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament, according to his latest update.

Niclas Andersson’s tally of 118 in Gameweek 8 meant he has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. He now sits in 144th overall and also retains top spot in the FFS Old Farts Club league, for our community’s elders as well as first place in the Long and Winding Road main league.

There’s no stopping Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. He remains in first after recording an impressive score of 110 in Gameweek 8. Greenwindmill is the latest to take second place in an attempt to catch him.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Gecko hit the top score in Gameweek 8 with 131 where the safety score was set at 61. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details visit here.

Finally, here’s a reminder from Jarvish of his Blank Weekend Challenge competition. This focuses on some of the lower English league players and is ideal for those keen to scratch their Fantasy Football itch during the international break.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Good evening everyone. How are we? Looking above I see Aguero is expected out for a decent chunk of time. this could make things very interesting. It will definitely mean a lot of teams are taking hits this week. This is a great opportunity for green arrows again in my opinion. make the right move now! You can be damn sure many have screwed things up with hits already.

Because Sir Alex is always right. He may very well be a brilliant manager but i fear what it'll do to his reputation if he fails in the job. What would happen if Giggs doesn't make top 4, most likely due to inexperience?

Giggs may be an amazing manager when he's well into his 50's but i fear for his early days. How much confidence will they place on an inexperienced Giggs?

I love Giggs but I'd hate to see him be remembered for this just like Gerrard is remembered for his slip.

Well, there is Ancelotti if he doesn't take the Munich or City job which one of the two will become available in the summer.

Beyond that, I'm not sure who is available to take such a huge job on. I'm somewhat surprised UTD fans thought Klopp would be interested in the UTD job one day. It's just not the type of club he'd be interested in.

I might get berated for this but I'd want Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be the manager of United. I'd like a man with the experience of winning. I'd like a manager that has played for manchester united on the biggest stage. I'd like a manager that has managed in the champions league also. I think he's just about raw enough for united to give him a real crack at the job of managing the club. He knows the club better than most managers will and he'll be welcomed with open arms by the supporters.

What I see as a good thing is his days at Cardiff. He's a young manager and that experience will make him improve. He's also managed in the top flight.

In my opinion he deserves it more than Giggs.

There are other coaches available, they may not be stardust, however, they are forward thinking, innovative managers. The game is moving on and I'm sorry, LVG's stuff is now outdated.

Garry Monk has now out-thought him on numerous meetings.

The problem is LVG is trying to adapt to the modern game with all this possession football. He saw it with Pep and he's trying to mirror it.

What happened to the LVG on the Ajax days where had a typical dutch 4-3-3 with explosive wingers and a busy midfield. They blitzed teams

I'm a united fan and I don't like LVG tactics. He makes us play narrow as well which is strange to me on a pitch like Old Trafford.

Can anyone remember the last counter attacking goal that united have scored? I can't.

At the end of the day, he's grinding out results but I fear that once the results go badly for him, the knives will be out quicker than they were for David Moyes.LVG's style of football is not the United way.

'the United way', it depends on the players at our disposal, I don't think they can go back to a counter attacking crossing game.

tbh he's actively removed wingers from his team. Nani, Di maria, Januzaj, Valencia (right back), Young (left back), Mata out wide, Pushing Rooney out wide now.

The only winger we have that plays is Depay. He should have invested more in the front line and wide areas in my opinion and it'll be telling come the end of the season.

Full agree with this. He also promised it last season as well. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the squad for it. The injury to Luke Shaw doesn't help. Because he's placed Young in left back, he's now become thinner in the front line which is his fault. He should have kept hernandez and brought in a couple wingers.

Arsenal are going out of the champions league and so will concentrate more on the league this season. City will most likely be there at the end of the season because they have the best squad depth imo. Chelsea's season is an anomaly but a lucky one for United because it may give us 3rd.

The other concern is, UTD's midfield is very slow. Bastien, Morgan are not quick, I made a point of this on here with a UTD fan at the start of the season and was quickly shot down!!

Not sure why anyone would shut you down. It's a fairly obvious point to make. The legs are not there in our midfield. Morgan is a good player but at times I've been disappointed with his inability to actually win the ball in midfield. It's all too safe at the moment.

The only way united can do well is if we change to a 4-3-3. It'll allow carrick and bastian to be in the team but it requires alot of work from the front men also. It also means having to bench Rooney of push him out wide which would kill our game.

I was shut down, not many objective utd fans around these parts.

Morgan at Southampton was supported by Wanyama who did all the running, he doesn't have that here.

You have a manager who is stubborn and won't change his ways. Since he's been at the club, he's tinkered with the formation and played players out of position.

You also have a problem with Ashley Young, who's not happy playing left back.

The filoshofee is a slow build up style. We don't need out and out wingers or fast counter attacking players. United just needs to secure the vast majority of the possession. LVG has selected a squad for his style, it makes sense.

What happened to the LVG of the Ajax days? Ever since those days, he's been pretty adequate.

He was languishing near the bottom of the table in december with Barcelona in his second spell and he got sacked. They finished 6th that season.

He managed to fail to qualify for the world cup in 2002 with that amazing dutch team.

He managed to finish 3rd with Bayern which is just amazing to me. The road to the semi finals wasn't even special if you look at the opponents he played. With United the exception (which was a game that was robbed from us - excuse the pun)

He did well with AZ but Steve McClaren won that league with FC Twente so let's put things into perspective here.

You've hit the nail on the head there. Just to add, he's only won the CL once in his career. At Barcelona he had a lot of world class players and he underachieved.

Prior to UTD his stock was falling, ask yourself who was really interested in him other than UTD?

Since being at UTD it's taken him 3 transfer windows to give you some identity in your style of football, which should really take 3 months into a job.
