The Community Round Up

Basking in the glow of a sensational Gameweek 8 score, many of the community were still counting up their goals and assists long after the final whistle last Sunday. We glance back at another sensational display from Sergio Aguero and Southampton’s players and look ahead to the coming Gameweeks, with hidden Fantasy gems and new managerial appointments dominating discussion. Elsewhere, we catch up on the latest Members tables as well as find out what effect last weekend’s goalfest had on our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Swansea’s dip in form while Tottenham and Crystal Palace’s ability to finally find their feet this season are the key issues discussed in Rakkhi’s team trends analysis of the first eight Gameweeks.

Congratulations to The 3rd Turd whose analysis of Fantasy Football radars and bubbles have earned him £20 Amazon voucher after winning the Community article of the month vote for September.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Liverpool’s sacking of Brendan Rodgers and wooing of former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was amongst the hot topics discussed during this week’s international break. Berbinho’s Forehead’s focus was on Rodgers differences with Liverpool’s transfer committee, while Numb pondered whether Klopp will flop.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott was dramatically dumped by John Terry’s Dog as his affections move across the capital to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. His break up letter to the Arsenal man proved a real tearjerker.

Trigg has been asking which have been the community’s worst transfers. Could dumping Walcott be added to that list when it is refreshed in a few Gameweeks time?

There may be some more broken hearts should the community’s hidden gems for the coming Gameweeks fail to shine.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand was among the key names mentioned as differential prospects and was also discussed in Rodellegabomb’s hot topic on the Saints more settled backline.

For the second year running, Gameweek 8 proved pivotal to many of our community who backed Southampton’s assets, as well as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero with the captain’s armband. Last season Aguero scored four against Tottenham, while Southampton humiliated Sunderland. Both were at it again this season, with the Argentine striker scoring five against Newcastle and Southampton putting Chelsea to the sword. A more detailed look back at what was a week to savour for many can be found in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the Bookies say update.

The spooky coincidence of Gameweek 8’s repeated success for many of our community also sparked a discussion on other illogical Fantasy Football folklores.

In the more immediate future, though, Aguero owners are facing a nervous wait to see the extent of an injury picked up while on international duty for Argentina. Here we look at some of the potential scenarios and contingency plans should he face a lengthy lay-off.

Another star of Gameweek 8 was Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. His two wonder free-kicks against Swansea inspired Demi to start a discussion on Europe’s best free kick specialists.

Amongst the community, EnglishNo7 was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Gameweek 8’s goal-a-thon. He finds himself at the top of the Fantasy Premier League Fantasy Football Scout league and dropped by to deliver some words of wisdom for his fellow Fantasy managers.

Finally, while FPL is the main game for much of our community there are plenty of other Fantasy Football games out there, from weekly contests to draft games. Here the community offered their thoughts on coping with the multi-Fantasy football experience.

The Members Tables

For those eyeing up Southampton players, I’ve made this table looking at their key attacking assets. Elsewhere, Doosra has made this table looking at this season’s best deadball specialists and the Sportsguy has turned to shots on target to find the brightest midfield diamonds.

Giggs Boson has been looking at those players that are scoring well from few opportunities or shots on target. There was further discussion around this ‘lethal or imposter’ table and the ways it can be interpreted here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

There were some huge scores in round 2 of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament, according to his latest update.

Niclas Andersson’s tally of 118 in Gameweek 8 meant he has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. He now sits in 144th overall and also retains top spot in the FFS Old Farts Club league, for our community’s elders as well as first place in the Long and Winding Road main league.

There’s no stopping Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. He remains in first after recording an impressive score of 110 in Gameweek 8. Greenwindmill is the latest to take second place in an attempt to catch him.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Gecko hit the top score in Gameweek 8 with 131 where the safety score was set at 61. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details visit here.

Finally, here’s a reminder from Jarvish of his Blank Weekend Challenge competition. This focuses on some of the lower English league players and is ideal for those keen to scratch their Fantasy Football itch during the international break.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

So people with WCs (especially those looking at week 11), with Aguero out what do you think of managing with FTs until he returns then using the WC to re-restructure the team around his 13m price tag?

I'm actually tempted to do the opposite - use my WC now to redistribute the Agueri money immediately but have a plan to bring Aguero back in a few weeks using FTs

        • 10 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

Nice, I think that could work too, you'll have to be ruthless with a heavy hitting mid when the time comes.

        KdB + Lukaku -> Aguero + Shelvey

or something similar. Otherwise you'll eat up the hits if you do small downgrades here and there

        1. AB.
          • 15 Years
          8 years, 8 months ago

Exactly. But I think this is do-able. It's easy to choose 5 heavy hitting mids at the moment and then downgrade whichever is underperforming/ injured as a makeweight for Aguero in a few weeks time.

It is funny I have spent the last few days thinking I messed up by not leaving myself a logical route to get some Southampton and to get some Lukaku before the Sunderland game. Then the world turns upside down with Aguero and another way appears through player you had previously considered indispensable.

With Silva out as well, I can't fathom why Sterling would be played up front. Iheanacho is inexperienced, I don't think he'll get the nod either imo. Pele will need Sterling's width in midfield. You don't sign a player like Bony, only to bench him at the most opportune moment for him to prove his ability.

I agree, however a few poor performances then Silva returning and suddenly he won't be essential to Pellegrini's plans. Then there is the issue of Aguero returning. I can understand a punt on Costa though knowing that it could be for the long term with Chelsea's inevitable return to form.

Regarding the issue of Agüero returning, how big an issue is that really? Considering we'll be receiving updates on his progress, availability & a call in advance to when one should plan accordingly to fit him in. If your team's structure is decent, 2 FT's away & a little planning in advanced quenches that notion, imo. Many had no problems slotting Agüero in for Gw3/4 with 2 FT's.

Eh? no thats not what I'm saying. I'm saying that Bony is a very short term deal. Why spend a FT on a short term deal when you could punt on Costa for a potential long term deal if he does well.

              1. Zasa
                • 9 Years
                8 years, 8 months ago

Ah, well I think that point is pretty irrelevant imo. How do you define short term for this? 6 GW's? Considering there's been new reporting that Aguero may not be coming back 'til perhaps even the next IB (presumably) , surely this doesn't constitute as a short term deal, no?

Problem with Bony is he hardly plays. When he does get a chance he's expected to turn it on just like that. Doesn't always work that way. He'll need a run of games first I think as his confidence looks shot to me. I wouldn't go near him. Same for Costa. One goal in six games (I think) playing for a team in trouble. I'm swerving him too.

Same can be said for Costa, who is 2.0m more expensive. hasn't played for a bit & has looked a shadow of his former 2014-2015 self, imo.

This argument isn't even taking into account City's attacking form vs Chelsea's.

No I definitely don't, there's reason to be optimistic. Yet, thus far, City's attack has proven to be worthy of an investment over Chelsea's considering both their playstyles & City's tendency to trample over teams with or w/o Aguero (both in or off form).

This is also assuming Silva's injury is semi-serious, I agree he's very integral to the attack. Though, KdB has done more than done a fine job as a #10. If Silva's only out for two weeks, and YYT/Kompäny/Silva are back for the United game, how much do these semantics even matter as they play (BOU, mun, NOR, avl, LIV) two promoted sides at home & Villa in the next four,

I don't think City will be sweating too much for those three matches, imo. I assume the aforementioned injured players will be back for LIV.

The main issue for me is not the teams or their form. Its that imo Bony isn't as nailed on as Costa and Costa could be a longer team deal

I mean, a reversal in form for both City and Chelsea is highly predictable with City's injuries to key players and Chelea's upcoming fixtures and inevitable turn if fortune (due to them being a side much better than their current league standing).

Not a lot actually happens episode to episode. Stories are drawn out and actually quite boring.

This is usually made up for with a last minute "wow" factor in the last couple of minutes. Production value is decent but the show is rather boring.

I did like the end of last series though.

So much this. The plot are quite often long and drawn out and ends with a bang which creates a hype. Though the book is way more interesting and detailed.

    Butland, McCarthy
    Janmaat, Evans, Kolarov, Nyom, Francis
    Sanchez, KDB, Mane, Mahrez, Westwood
    Aguero, Martial, Vardy

Already (stupidly) done a 4 point hit. Worth benching Aguero this week to avoid doing a -8?

If you had told me at the start of the season that my strike force going into GW9 would have potentially been:

    Pelle - Martial - Mitrovic

This weekend, Danny Simpson (3.9) popped up for 64 minutes and grabbed first clean sheet for a Leicester defender this season. Does anyone know why he started this time and is there any chance he'll keep starting?

The tinkerman went on the defensive so Mahrez and De Laet were dropped for more defensively sound players. I don't think it will be a permanent change in tactics.

But will it happen again ?...and if so how often ?

He said it was because Norwich have good attacking full backs...and they do....but so do a lot of other teams, and even better ones.

So how often does the Tinkerman tinker with Mahrez !

Mahrez could always play as a #10 so I don't think he'll always be the fall guy.

No, but Bertrand still plays high enough to cause problems. Also I wouldn't put it past Koeman to switch Mane over to have a head to head with Mahrez.

Hmm, sounds like a one time thing then. It worked though, so maybe he'll be starting Simpson & Mahrez as a more balanced combination if he thinks that Mahrez and de Laet are too dodgy defensively. Wishful thinking 🙂

They got a hiding from Bellerin and Monreal the week before so Tinkerman's reaction is understandable. I'm worried about Southampton away next week too.

That's the problem....FPL blinds is to the fact that players like Mahrez and Mane have few defensive qualities....They sometimes only play half a game in real world football.

I have no idea if the Tinkerman will tinker again...but I understand why.

So the Aguero injury is leading me to wc.

    Howard / Butland

Gabriel / Kolarov / Dawson / van Dijk / Souare

De Bruyne / Sanchez / Mahrez / Cabaye / Mata

    Pelle / Vardy / Lukaku

    0.0 in bank

Howard / Lukaku / Mata are more for when fixtures turn in GW 11

with Double header against Bayern Im worried about Monreal / Bellerin being rotated hence Gabriel

will swap Souare for Ward if he returns from injury

    thoughts?

I've just realised Aguero out makes my Walcott dreams a reality. I've been lusting over Walcott for ever and a day but having been bitten multiple times I'm rather shy. However for the first time in a long time I'm now considering a 'front 8' as opposed to my standard front 7 + fodder.

Aguero + Bentaleb -> 8.5m (Bony, Lukaku or Martial) + Walcott for -4 leaves me with:

Sanchez, De Bruyne, Walcott, Coutinho, Mahrez
    Pelle, 8.5m, Gestede

likely with Gestede on the bench ready to come on for Wally or the Tinkerman's latest victim.

Regarding the Kun replacement situation, I'm in a big dilemma. Lukaku seems to be the best choice in my opinion. Granted Arsenal and United aren't the best fixtures, but he can perform well and moreover it'll be long term. But feeling like taking a punt on Mitrovic. Can easily take back Lukaku after GW10. Also Mitrovic will be a player with a fixture on Sunday. Will make my Sunday interesting. Worth a punt? Or stick to the obvious? It'll be for -4. Already got McCartney, Targett, Oxford and a doubtful Sagna. Add to that Ayew and Ritchie away to city. Thoughts lads?

I like Lukaku. He seems to do well in the tougher fixtures so I can understand your thinking there.

I don't think Mitrovic has enough to back him up there although he could be good.

I would go for Lukaku out of the 2 I think.

Well it always depends upon the rest of the team doesn't it really. It looks like we will all need someone in that spot soon.

If it ends up as a choice between a hit this week and next week the amount of injuries (so far) this week makes a hit easier to disguise so just do it now.

Thanks guys. I'll hold off til the pressers anyway. I feel like if I'm gonna bite the bullet and get rid of Aguero probably until an early January WC (unless things go ridiculously well for me) then I should redistribute his funds asap. I'll possibly be looking to ship out Kolarov and Darmian over the coming few weeks as well so I'm not gonna be swimming in FT.

I should probably prioritise moving Diouf on though, had not heard about his mother. Plus the hip injury. So the crazy transfer idea would be more like Aguero, Diouf, Barkley -> Pelle, Lukaku, KDB (-12).

I think we are at cross purposes TM

The members home page always shows the table for most shots for the current gameweek under the ICT tables.

            Last week it was

            Aguero
            Eriksen
            Murray
            Cabaye
            Vardy

It's showing Bolasie's four attempts instead of Cabaye's six attempts. I think somebody simply clicked on the wrong player,
