The Community Round Up

Basking in the glow of a sensational Gameweek 8 score, many of the community were still counting up their goals and assists long after the final whistle last Sunday. We glance back at another sensational display from Sergio Aguero and Southampton’s players and look ahead to the coming Gameweeks, with hidden Fantasy gems and new managerial appointments dominating discussion. Elsewhere, we catch up on the latest Members tables as well as find out what effect last weekend’s goalfest had on our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Swansea’s dip in form while Tottenham and Crystal Palace’s ability to finally find their feet this season are the key issues discussed in Rakkhi’s team trends analysis of the first eight Gameweeks.

Congratulations to The 3rd Turd whose analysis of Fantasy Football radars and bubbles have earned him £20 Amazon voucher after winning the Community article of the month vote for September.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Liverpool’s sacking of Brendan Rodgers and wooing of former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was amongst the hot topics discussed during this week’s international break. Berbinho’s Forehead’s focus was on Rodgers differences with Liverpool’s transfer committee, while Numb pondered whether Klopp will flop.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott was dramatically dumped by John Terry’s Dog as his affections move across the capital to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. His break up letter to the Arsenal man proved a real tearjerker.

Trigg has been asking which have been the community’s worst transfers. Could dumping Walcott be added to that list when it is refreshed in a few Gameweeks time?

There may be some more broken hearts should the community’s hidden gems for the coming Gameweeks fail to shine.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand was among the key names mentioned as differential prospects and was also discussed in Rodellegabomb’s hot topic on the Saints more settled backline.

For the second year running, Gameweek 8 proved pivotal to many of our community who backed Southampton’s assets, as well as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero with the captain’s armband. Last season Aguero scored four against Tottenham, while Southampton humiliated Sunderland. Both were at it again this season, with the Argentine striker scoring five against Newcastle and Southampton putting Chelsea to the sword. A more detailed look back at what was a week to savour for many can be found in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the Bookies say update.

The spooky coincidence of Gameweek 8’s repeated success for many of our community also sparked a discussion on other illogical Fantasy Football folklores.

In the more immediate future, though, Aguero owners are facing a nervous wait to see the extent of an injury picked up while on international duty for Argentina. Here we look at some of the potential scenarios and contingency plans should he face a lengthy lay-off.

Another star of Gameweek 8 was Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. His two wonder free-kicks against Swansea inspired Demi to start a discussion on Europe’s best free kick specialists.

Amongst the community, EnglishNo7 was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Gameweek 8’s goal-a-thon. He finds himself at the top of the Fantasy Premier League Fantasy Football Scout league and dropped by to deliver some words of wisdom for his fellow Fantasy managers.

Finally, while FPL is the main game for much of our community there are plenty of other Fantasy Football games out there, from weekly contests to draft games. Here the community offered their thoughts on coping with the multi-Fantasy football experience.

The Members Tables

For those eyeing up Southampton players, I’ve made this table looking at their key attacking assets. Elsewhere, Doosra has made this table looking at this season’s best deadball specialists and the Sportsguy has turned to shots on target to find the brightest midfield diamonds.

Giggs Boson has been looking at those players that are scoring well from few opportunities or shots on target. There was further discussion around this ‘lethal or imposter’ table and the ways it can be interpreted here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

There were some huge scores in round 2 of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament, according to his latest update.

Niclas Andersson’s tally of 118 in Gameweek 8 meant he has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. He now sits in 144th overall and also retains top spot in the FFS Old Farts Club league, for our community’s elders as well as first place in the Long and Winding Road main league.

There’s no stopping Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. He remains in first after recording an impressive score of 110 in Gameweek 8. Greenwindmill is the latest to take second place in an attempt to catch him.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Gecko hit the top score in Gameweek 8 with 131 where the safety score was set at 61. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details visit here.

Finally, here’s a reminder from Jarvish of his Blank Weekend Challenge competition. This focuses on some of the lower English league players and is ideal for those keen to scratch their Fantasy Football itch during the international break.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

What option would you prefer now Aguero is confirmed out:

    A) Keep playing 3-4-3 and get Sturridge/Martial/Lukaku (which one? prefer Martial out of those myself)

    B) Switch to a 3-5-2 and get one of Mane/Hazard/Mata (again which one? already have Pelle but no Chelsea or ManU) and use Igahlo as 3th non-playing striker

The indecision of who to put up front is making me lean more towards 352. Mane out of that lot you've chose. I'm thinking of backing Walcott as I already have Mane.

Yes Walcott can be a good shout as well, although - correct me if I'm wrong - Giroud is suspended for CL I believe so I might see Walcott getting some gametime there at the expense of his gametime in the PL where Wenger might give Giroud his minutes

There will always be the Giroud threat. It'd be a punt and a half alright to go with Walcott in the hope he continues to start. Not easy to drop a player in form though.

Indeed, although no Chelsea or ManU worries me a bit, I know Chelsea isn't playing the best football but they'll be fine and Hazard can always get some cheap assist points from a free kick or some penalty goal or something like that. Same with Mata who is also on pens.

Chelsea don't have the form and United don't have the fixtures. I think you can afford to not worry too much for a little while at least.

    Butland (Hennesey)
    Zouma, Alderwield, Huth (Richards, Cook)
Hazard, De bruyne, Payet, Mahrez, (Wanyama)
    Martial, Aguero, Vardy

    McCartney, Myhill
    Azpi, Dawson, Sagna, Targett, Oxford
    Sanchez, KDB, Ayew, Mahrez, Ritchie,
    Aguero, Pelle, Vardy.

Rank is in 5 digits now, but team looks to be in tatters. Got only one keeper, Targett, Oxford don't play, Sagna isn't guaranteed, Ayew is doubtful, Ritchie is massively underperforming. Already done my transfer. Worth doing a -4 to get lukaku instead of Kun? Or concentrate somewhere else? Anyone kind enough to device an exist strategy? Cheers.

0.2 in the bank. No FT left. According to my plan, Kun to Lukaku (you convinced me), and wait to see who to pick instead of Ritchie next week as I'm still holding back on Mane. Planning to let the defence rot for a week or two while hoping Sagna starts.

Is the Lukaku transfer a hit? I can't remember. I was thinking a bit more it would not be a bad week for a hit as there will be lots of hits by many due to all these international injuries. You may want to consider taking one to deal with one of the defenders.

You need to swap out Oxford or Targett. I don't see the point in not fielding 11, even if it means taking a trip to Hit City. Swap others too if they are not fit to play until you can field 11 starters.

As you don't have the cash to swap one of Oxfprd or Targett out the Agüero move makes sense.

If you can't field three at the back then a hit for a third playing defender is effectively only -2 and could be points postive by the end of the week - or points neautral by next week at least.

April 2013, Man City went 3-1 down in the 82nd minute.

With his second substitution of the game on 83 minutes, Mancini did Dzeko off, Scott Sinclair on.
With his third substitution of the game on 90 minutes, Mancini did Lescott off, Kolarov on.

Man City lost 3-1 and Aguero was an unused substitute. Surely he was injured and should never have been in the squad?

Just read an article that Silva will be out 2-3 weeks with ankle ligament damage (newsnew/nbc sports). So as I own both Aguero & Silva a -4 hit will be made.

Aguero out, Pelle in is a no brainer
Silva out has me thinking KDB, Mane or Walcott. Will KDB get the points with no Aguero, Silva, Kompany, YYT. Walcott is a great option but rotation risk. Maybe Mane is the one to get.

    Current team:
    Butland (McCarthy)
    Kolorov, Williams, Zouma** (Richards, Gomez**)
Sanchez (c), Silva**, Payet, Mahrez, Redmond
    Aguero**, Vardy (Diouf**)

If Zouma starts which is possible my defence is sweet this week. Even if he doesn't Richards comes in
I'm expecting Redmond to get in the points this week v Newcastle so just need to deal with Silva.
As I said Pelle will come in for Aguero. I'm just hoping Diouf comes right so that I have a bit more depth on my bench. If he's fit I could save the -4 hit selling Silva & just sell Aguero for free.

Thoughts appreciated & thanks in advance.

I agree either Pelle or Lukaku seems logical for the first transfer. The second one is a bit more grey but I think you are looking at the right 3 players. You may want to consider if you want to double up on Southampton attack or not? If not whether you prefer Mane or Prelle

    Butland,
    Dawson, Ward*, Kolarov
    Silva *, Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet
    Aguero**, Martial, Ighalo

    Schmeichel, Francis, Westwood, Richards

    2.0m in account- 1ft

    Aguero- Pelle seems a given?
Would you take a hit to improve elsewhere?
Sweating on Silva now too and just hoping Ward is back

Not too sure what to expect from City without Aguero, Silva and possibly Yaya. Pelle's in great form and Leicester can't keep a CS.

KDB can create something on his own. Maybe giving him the captaincy is a big move but I think he can score, even without those illustrious friends.

Another point to note is that Bournemouth never played with a top 5 side before, and West Ham scored 4 past them in the 1st GW

Yeah, I'm a bit worried that I only currently have Kolarov for those games now Aguero is injured. But who would you remove from Mane, Sanchez, Mahrez, Ayew and Payet to make way for a City midfielder or two? Or do I swap Aguero to Bony as a stop gap measure?

I think Bony is the only option out of those ones tbh. Not sure it is the best option though.

Yeah. Bony is the least painful option for entry into the City attack (just -4) but other options, like Pelle, might be just as good or better in terms of returns. Then there is the need to minimise unnecessary transfers in coming weeks to cope with the return of players from injury, thus bringing Lukaku into play now, a couple of weeks ahead of schedule.

Yeah it's from the last three if I go down that route, but Ayew has some great fixtures, Mahrez - aside from last week - has been the revelation of the season and most of West Ham's attacking play goes through Payet...

    2. Marknlard
      • 15 Years
      8 years, 8 months ago

Lukaku for me, he's the man carrying form. Sturridge may be a nice differential but he's just back from a huge injury, Liverpool's fixtures are tough and there's a new man on the throne (even if he is a potentially very good manager for them).

      1. Jape
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

He came back flying though right. Plus Klopp's full throttle football could work great for him. Guess it is a punt though

        1. Marknlard
          • 15 Years
          8 years, 8 months ago

Absolutely true, Sturridge could be dynamite. I think he's a great striker. It's a punt but one that could pay off. Lukaku is the safer bet for me as I don't see Sturridge drastically outscoring him.

One other thing is that Sturridge is overpriced in my opinion.

          1. Jape
            • 8 Years
            8 years, 8 months ago

I completely agree that he's overpriced. He's also super fragile.

With Lukaku my only issue is that he's been known to be inconsistent, then again he's in fantastic form.

Everton have the better fixtures too no?

Exactly. I love the Team Value thing but with so many matches left im willing to take some price drops and wait until press conferences before any moves

      Cheers..
If I do make these transfers it is 6.8m in the account..
Prob better off not worrying about a 0.1m here or there..
