Captain Poll – Gameweek 37

Unsurprisingly, Double Gameweek 37 players dominate in our latest Captain Poll, which was launched earlier today to gauge your views on the best armband options.

Chief among these are Tottenham Hotspur assets, who travel to bottom side West Brom on Saturday followed by a home clash with Newcastle United three days later.

Voters will be keenly watching events at Wembley tonight when Mauricio Pochettino’s troops play the final fixture of Gameweek 36 at home to Watford.

Although Harry Kane (13.0) has struggled for form, with a single FPL goal in his last six appearances, across the campaign the Spurs striker has proved to be an explosive captaincy option.

Kane has delivered eight double-digit points hauls and should gain extra motivation from his mission to overturn Mohamed Salah’s five-goal advantage in the Golden Boot race.

With six scores above 10 points Son Heung-min (8.3) is unlikely to be overlooked, particularly for the Magpies clash. The South Korean has served up nine goals and five assists in home matches.

Christian Eriksen (9.6)’s four double-digit returns makes him a less explosive option than Kane or Son. However, the Dane’s recent consistency may sway some opinion, with at least a goal or assist in four of his last five run outs, including a 15-point haul away to Stoke in Gameweek 33.

Three goals and as many assists over his last five league matches make Dele Alli (9.0) another in-form Spurs asset to consider.

The North Londoners won’t have it easy, though. Since Darren Moore took charge in early April, the Baggies are unbeaten, including a victory over Manchester United and a draw with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s backline has proved miserly over their last six outings, conceding just four times, with only Liverpool shipping less (three).

Even with the league title wrapped up Manchester City’s stars are refusing to take their foot off the gas with nine goals in their last two matches as champions.

This fine recent form, as well as two favourable home ties against Huddersfield and Brighton, is already seeing considerable interest in their assets.

The Terriers have been particularly poor on the road over the season with their last clean sheet way back in Gameweek 6. Brighton have been similarly obliging, with just one shut-out in six road trips, shipping nine goals along the way.

Gabriel Jesus (10.3) is in excellent form with four goals and three assists over his last five starts. Already this week he is the most acquired player with more than 33,000 transfers in.

With 30,000+ new owners, Raheem Sterling (9.0) is the most popular midfield target and has been similarly impressive, claiming double-digit hauls in all three of his last league matches, including a hat-trick of assists in the 4-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

Leroy Sane (8.6)’s strike against the Hammers, his tenth of the campaign, may also garner interest and Kevin De Bruyne (10.3)’s home form should also see him earn attention. On home turf, the Belgian has supplied a high league-high number of assists (14) and chances created (62) and has also found the net five times.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba (7.9) and Alexis Sanchez (11.5) put forward a strong case for consideration in their 2-1 home defeat of Arsenal on Sunday. The Frenchman’s goal was his sixth of the campaign and third in the last four matches. Meanwhile, Sanchez’s assist against his former employers was his fourth in as many starts, over which time he has also scored once and earned two scores of 10 points or more.

During Gameweek 37 the Red Devils travel to a Brighton side without a home clean sheet in 2018 and also drop by West Ham, who have shipped eight over their last four London Stadium matches.

Chelsea’s home tie with Huddersfield next Wednesday looks the more favourable of their encounters, arriving three days after they entertain Liverpool.

Blues assets put forward for consideration include Eden Hazard (10.5), with a goal and assist over his last two starts. Their striker Olivier Giroud (8.2) is another, given he scored a brace off the bench against Southampton in Gameweek 34.

Mohamed Salah (10.6) may only have one fixture but, with 14 double-digit hauls, the PFA Player of the Year could still generate interest.

Among the differential options is Jordan Ayew (5.3), ahead of Swansea’s must-win games against Bournemouth away and Southampton at the Liberty Stadium. Between them, the two south coast sides have shipped 16 times over their last four run outs. Meanwhile, Ayew has been involved in more than a third (36%) of all his side’s goals this season.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 37 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

  1. Fear of missing out on big hauls (ceilings versus form)

Shameless revision and repost of a bottomed post but it would be interesting to get a conversation going about the dangers of making bad transfer and captaincy decisions because we are afraid of what might happen if we take an alternative course of action.

It strikes me that this season has been defined in a negative way by two clear cases of valuing points ceilings over form and week-to-week evidence of actual points scored. I think this is because it's so easy to visualise a player doing something even when the odds, form, and statistics suggest that the imagined outcome will not materialise.

I have certainly missed out on dozens of points this season because past form and my own mind's eye convince me that something is going to happen, even when all the evidence suggests that it won't.

Even if we do miss out on a 'haul' from a highly-owned player, it is really easy to think that this amounts to a season-ending error when in fact it might just cost us 20 points out of a possible 2000-2500 over the course of the season (or less than 1%). If we stop and think how many we might have had in the same period with alternative players, selected rationally based on form and statistics, we may easily match the 'fear' choice tally and probably even surpass it.

    - Kane has consistently failed to perform, and then he drops in the occasional hat trick. The problem is that in order to maximise the points from the big hauls you need to captain him through the long spells of relative inactivity in between. The fact that I did not permacap Salah after about GW7, and captained Kane twice as often, shows that I feel into this trap too. Time and again we have captained Kane going into an 'easy' fixture, forgetting that in half a dozen similar fixtures he has done absolutely nothing.

    - Likewise Alonso. Too many of us, myself included, have allowed him to outstay his welcome in our teams despite the fact that he underperforms and takes up far too much squad value. The fact that he is the only defender who realistically could score two goals in a game has blindsided us into forgetting that he rarely actually does.

It's the same mindset that is preyed upon when bookies put posters up in their windows advertising particular outcomes. They are so dangerous because they always describe completely plausible outcomes , for example Man City to win 3-1, Sterling to score first. As soon as you see the poster it's hard not to think that the odds (say 10:1) are not at all attractive, because you can imagine it happening.

So many people are saying that Kane is going to score 2-3 goals tonight. The statistics and form suggest that he will probably score 0-1. And that's 13m worth of team value which is unlikely, yet again, to return its value for us. The main thing I have learned this season to take into the next is to ignore points ceilings and fear of missing out on worst-case 'possible' outcomes and focus instead on regularity of returns.

Love this post as it completely backs up my proposed decision below to stick without Kane, just use my FT and hopefully remain better off.

I agree that everyone is going Kane-mad as "he HAS to explode as he is rested and must be due" but how can it be as much of a certainty as everyone says?

Let me know what you think of my post also!

If I triple captain Kane, at this point it will be only because of his security of starts compared to Sterling and Jesus. (yes, I know Pep has rotated a lot less than expected, but surely Bernardo will get at least one start in GW37 at the expense of a nailed starter) Even an out of form Kane can still get one goal per game, which will be a more than satisfactory return considering how the GW22 or 34 triple captainers fared.

Interesting write-up, thanks. I will say that I've had really bad personal experiences with both Kane and Alonso this season though. I would've had many more points if I had captained Kane for his back-to-back hat-tricks for example (luckily I hadn't sold him) and if I had captained someone else for his disappointing home streak earlier in the season.

As for Alonso, it's even worse. Like you, I thought he was largely underperforming and offered poor value. Since I still wanted Chelsea defence, I opted for Courtois, thinking he'd more or less match Alonso (given that Alonso wasn't scoring like last year). The result? Courtois scores 37 points in 10 GWs for my team, Alonso scores 69 in the same stretch.

OK, I'm now convinced that Courtois doesn't 'cover' Alonso, for want of a better term, and get Alonso in preparation for the DGWs. He scores 7 points in 5 GWs, Courtois scores 14.

I know we all have our 'woe is me' moments, but I've had so many occasions like these it's really getting me down.

You raise some very interesting points. The difficulty with Kane (and, to a lesser extent, Alonso) is that they have shown over an extended period (2+ seasons) that they are capable of decent returns. Kane went through a very lean spell between GW30-34 (when I didn't own, thankfully). But, prior to that, he returned in six of the previous seven weeks. Should he return again tonight, it should be enough to convince me that he is a safe bet for a double figure haul across the DGW

Kane won’t just give up on the Golden Boot especially with a game at hand and Salah blanking over the weekend. Although I still think Salah wins it. Problem for me this season with him is he has no assists whatsoever. So when he gets the ball anywhere close to the net, he is just going to shoot and all the defenders know it. Getting other players involved would help free up space around him and probably make the team better. Maybe next season he’ll take this more mature approach to his game (realizing the Golden Boot isn’t the end all be all) and Spurs can become a more fluid attacking side again.

This is a bit of a quirk of the assist stat though. He's created great chances that have led to goals - i.e amazing through ball for Alli goal but he misses first effort, and Eriksen goal the other week which rebounded off him. He shoots a lot but luck hasn't been with him for some of these would-be assists.

My season has been average mainly because of the captain choices. Fell in the same trap with not perma-captaining Salah. He was in my team from GW1 on as well. Problem is you always want more, higher ranks, so you're trying something different when not on top already. For example, I TC Sanchez in DGW34, he scored 2 points. It was a high risk, high reward in my opinion. Whereas for captain choices it's better to stick with low risk, decent reward. Same goes for Kane this season. However, i still captain him DGW37 if he scores tonight and maybe Salah gets suspended for swinging an arm at BMI

Agreed, about both Kane and Alonso. Kane is captained more often due to reputation and fear here than current form.

However, at this point of the season, a haul from him when he is so highly owned and triple captained will certainly hurt you if you don't even own him. For example, I went with Welbeck instead of Lacazette on my free hit. I was sure no one would captain Lacazette and I'm sure even owners didn't expect a brace from him. So I didn't think he could hurt me, but he did. So why can't Kane do the unexpected and hurt you?

I may not TC him as I'm definitely leaning towards City, but I think going without him is a huge risk with 2 weeks to go due to effective ownership.

I think there is a strong argument for being ruthless and chopping and changing amongst the big hitters, I intended to do just that but fell into the same Alonso and Kane trap.

Luckily I changed strategy and sold Salah for Eriksen 3 times and each time it worked out (mainly because Salah wasn’t actually playing)
      GW22 sold Salah
      Eriksen 8, Salah 0
      GW23
      Eriksen 8, Salah 11
      GW24- 32 Bought Salah
      GW33 sold Salah
      Eriksen 15, Salah 0
      GW34
      Eriksen 9, Salah 8
      GW35 bought Salah
      GW36 sold Salah
      Eriksen ?, Salah 3

      Eriksen 40 + GW36, Salah 22 ... puts me 18 points up on the dealings 🙂

Just wish I did the Kane to Aguero exit too 🙁

In 'review' of my own season this is absolutely spot on. Why i didn't just perma captain Salah is beyond me, with my alternative often being Kane.

It comes down to absolute fear. I feel that it is the same reason why we all look at price point as some sort of indicator for future points. For example captaining a cheaper player just 'feels' wrong over a more expensive player even if the stats suggest it's the best move.

As a complete juxtaposition choosing a cheaper keeper 'becuase that's what I always do' over someone like De Gea for the season has also cost me.

It makes me wonder if we removed all the prices and names and just had stats and points available as a point of reference what out teams would look like and what points we would score in the wake of that?

I for one will be much more sensitive to this next season, along with the 'eye test' to pick my team.

Fantastic post. Its sometimes easy to forget through the emotion of a season that this is a risk based predictions game, and our strategies should be based on this foundation.

Kane does more to test this than any other player though. People talk about troll Lukaku, but the real troll is Kane. The only predictable thing he's done this season is not score in August! And that was in spite of stats showing he should have done, according to xG.

He then fell into a sort of pattern of hauling in away games only, before inexplicably hauling at home to Liverpool. He then injured himself, scored only 2 games in 5 easy fixtures, then hauled at home to Stoke and yet did nothing 4 days later home to brighton. After doing nothing against City he then randomly scored back to back hat tricks, including away to the leagues tightest defence. Then did nothing in a DGW of West ham and swansea. Then hauled again! Since then he's fallen into a pattern of consistent mediocrity, not scoring more than 8 pts in a match. Fortunately by then we had Salah to rely on so it wasn't so much of a problem.

It doesn't surprise me that many an excellent FPL manager has struggled this season. When the most expensive player in the game is performing completely at random it does make a large proprtion of the scores a bit of a lottery at times.

This site compounds my fearful attitude towards the game. Hopefully next year I'll play with more courage and go with my gut. It will be helped by having no Harry Kane so my strike force should be cheaper. May even skip Mo who'll be exhausted after the World Cup.

      This again?

I've kept Kane and Alonso through pretty much the whole season. I only dropped Kane for the run against the Liverpool, United and Arsenal, where Agüero had great fixtures. I'm really happy about consistently owning these players this season.

I captained Kane at the start of the season because literally no players can be judged on form at the start of the season. I figured I wanted Kane over Lukaku from GW3, and figured I'd just save the transfer. There's only been 3 other times where Kane has lacked the form to captain. All those times have been after his injuries. I've regretted captaining Kane in one game this season, when he faced Arsenal away. With a 7 point average as my captain, Kane has performed exactly how I'd expect most captains to perform.

Kane has actually been admirably consistent this season. He scored his hat tricks back to back. He scored 3 braces in 4 games. He blanked at least two games in a row every time he came back from injury. He blanked in August as he always does. Without these 9 games he has 179 points in 24 games. That's nearly 7.5 points per game for following 2 simple patterns. You could also avoid captaining him against the top 6, and end up with 148 points in 18 games.

I started with Alonso because he had the strongest PPM I've ever seen from an FPL defender. I kept him because his statistics were good and his fixtures got better after a disappointing start. He hasn't lived up to his potential, but he has delivered points regardless.

This is just hindsight and mostly about an extraordinary and unseen seasons of one player: Salah. Kane has not consistently failed to perform. In week 20 he was at 131 to Salah's 154. Yes behind, but not too much and which one of them was proven and who not? Their gap has widened considerably only in the latter half of the season. Kane's season might not be great, but it is far from a disaster. And 2nd highest defender of the game is under performing?

People have had good reasons to back Kane and Alonso. It is also not about consistency or explosiveness, but points. If Kane blanks a game, but has a brace next, it is just as good as two one goal games from another guy.

      1. Make Arrows Green Again

They are, IMO, both behind where they should be in terms of value. Having either for any stretch of the season could be considered to be detrimental to the maximum points potential of the team unless they are performing close to their value for money.

I agree that this has been an extraordinary team due to the emergence of Salah. In a way this proves my point - what I am saying is that that should have made captain choices easy. But they have not been, because most of us, most of the time, have defaulted (usually) to the Kane we hope will score big rather than the Salah we know to be scoring well.

Kane has not done badly, nor has Alonso, but we are picking them for what they might be capable of. Are we perhaps even picking them for last season's form? If so that's pretty inexcusable.

Re brace then blank - this is a good point but a forward blanking scores no bonus points, and the most BAPS you can win in a game is 3 regardless of how many goals a striker scores, so I would rather a forward who scores once every game, because there is a chance of three extra points (doubled if captained) every game. Unlike other fantasy games, consistent performances are rewarded in FPL over lumps and streaks .

I think Alonso's value is quite fine even considering Chelsea's down season. You are correct that Kane is not worth 13m right now when Salah carries the armband most weeks, but this is just last few months. A reason why Kane has been a rational buy is probably also that the forward market hasn't had only a few reasonable options.

BAPS is a good point, but depends also on the player. Lukaku for one cannot get any bonus points if he scores only one.

      SIR HARRY KANE:

      >> The only player in Premier League history to score consecutive hat-tricks on two separate occasions. Even Aguero, Suarez, CR7 in their pomp didn't do that. And he's still only 24.

      >> Broke Alan Shearer's record for PL goals in a calendar year last December with 39 goals in 36 games. Even though Salah is having a freak season he still isn't matching that ratio (although it's pretty close).

      >> The first player in Premier League history to score six hat-tricks in a calendar year, also in 2017. I like hat-tricks from my FPL captain. 😉

      >> Scored more goals for club and country than other player in Europe's top five leagues in 2017 (56 in 52 games).

      >> Has continued with 8 goals in 12 starts in 2018 despite having had to recover from two injuries. Not his most prolific but still not at all poor.

      >> Also became the first player ever to score 9 goals in his first 9 CL games a couple of months ago. His record in European football since 2014 is exceptional (18 goals, 3 assists in 22 starts).

      >> Has averaged 0.65 goals per game over his entire Spurs career, which is elite level. Aguero for City is 0.68, Suarez for Liverpool was 0.62. And Aguero and Suarez began as established players whereas Kane's record includes all the sub-on appearances when he was breaking into the Spurs 1st team.

      >> I therefore see nothing irrational whatsoever in considering Kane to be at least as good a captaincy option as Salah. And that - captaincy - is the key to value (which is your underlying point and a well-made one). Kane is too expensive at 13m UNLESS YOU INTEND TO USE HIM OFTEN AS CAPTAIN. For me - well, he is my captain this week, will be my triple captain next week and may well be my captain in GW38 as well. There's not a single player in FPL that I'd rather give the armband to. So 13m is fine by me. 🙂

Excellent post Ruth. I make the point in capitals often enough actually. Even last season's Kane is poor VFM unless you captain him. As it happens he's my captain this week too!

Yes, a lot of my post is with the benefit of hindsight, and I'm not saying Kane is ever a bad pick. All I'm saying is that we need to lose the fear of 'missing a haul' if other candidates are proving more profitable. We need to be more dispassionate, use the projections and RMT and check the bookies' odds.

Completely agree with that sentiment, although personally the bookies' odds aren't something that interest me much. Essentially you are advocating positive choices rather than fear-driven ones and that principle gets my vote too. 🙂

All of these facts are irrelevant in FPL though.

In FPL, he's 13m, with 191 points, having played 2714 minutes (that's more than Salah has). He has more or less just been keeping up with KDB for points this season, but is over 2m more expensive. Yes, captaincy is where the value lies indeed. Remind me again who we've had the most captain fails from this season?

His last double digit haul was in GW23 and he's been in terrible form of late. The point of this hot topic is that he has failed to deliver often when we've captained him and we continue to do it due to reputation, fear and irrelevant facts such as the ones you've posted and that's a fact. Sorry, but there's nothing 'Sir' about him.

What's more striking to me is that in 754 minutes more, Kane only has 21 more points than the "nostalgia-pick" Aguero.

In 310 fewer minutes, a certain Mr. Sterling has 32 more points than Kane. Included in that is 17 assists which are something that ,as mentioned by Pink Caddy, Kane isn't getting this season.

Again, in 127 minutes less, Firmino is only 14 points behind Kane. Firmino who, at the start of the season, cost 4.5m less.

The prices of players are set based on their performances in the previous season though. Sterling wasn't nailed last season, so he was priced cheap, and he's had a surprisingly freak season. Kane had the highest ppm of 7.5 last season, so he was priced at 12.5m. So I can't fault them for setting that price on him.

But there's no denying that he has not been worth that price. Just 191 points, plenty of captain fails. He should at least be ahead of Sterling by now. His stats are also down from last season. His conversion rate last season was 26%, and it's only 15% this season! Hopefully they reduce his price to 11.5m next season unless he does something really special in these final games.

Aren't you interested in a player's capability and record then? Only his historic FPL points? Pretty simple in that case; divide points by games played by price and pick the best. Or for captains ignore the price element.

But this subject is actually a bit more subtle than that. 🙂

You're both right, in a way. Yes cockysmurf based on value alone Kane has massively underperformed. But Kane can never justify his value on points alone, that 13m you're paying for includes a tax for captaincy, in a sense. So as Ruth says if you captain Kane every week then suddenly he is justifying his value.

But its not as simple as that either. The frustration of Kane comes from his lack of consistency, which leads to doubt, which leads to lack of trust with the armband. At which point, at his cost, means he isn't even worth owning if you can't trust him. The flip flopping of blanks v Brighton, swansea etc, mixed in with 17 pt hauls v Liverpool, Burnley away etc almost makes timing jumping on and off him impossible. To truly extract value from Kane this season you've either had to captain him every week, or go without him entirely. Very tricky player to manage this season.

If I had captained Kane every week, I'm sure my rank would be worse than it is now, because I would've had more captain fails and missed out on more of Salah's captaincy hauls.

If I had gone without him entirely, that would've probably hurt my rank too due to his high effective ownership especially during those back to back hat-tricks.

He's just so hit and miss. But that's exactly why there's no way I'm going without him in these final few weeks. If he hurts me, there's no climbing back.

It's more subtle than just looking at their capabilities and records too.

If the records you've mentioned have anything to do with this, can you explain why he has only 191 points, or why he's had so many captain fails, or his output since GW23?

In FPL, the most recent player and team form and their fixtures matter more than what records he has broken since he started playing football. So I didn't understand why you posted all his history and achievements.

All I'm saying is that with his form and fixtures, compared to Sterling's and City's, there's definitely a case to favor City as well and the 'fear' of not captaining Kane shouldn't influence our decision, as it has through most of the season.

Agreed on the last point. If it were sure Jesus would start twice next week I'd probably consider making him my TC instead of Kane. I'll go with the one I think is the best choice available to me.

              >> "...can you explain why he has only 191 points, or why he's had so many captain fails, or his output since GW23?"

'Only' 191 points? Anything above 200 over a season is very good and he'll make that. Might even beat it by a distance because he has 4 relatively easy games to play.

The thing about his record since GW23 is selective, right? You have picked the week that suits your argument? But OK... 23 was 13 points, 24 was 8 points, 25 was a blank against United. 26 was a very rare Kane penalty miss, so 4 points that week rather than 13 had he scored it. So far, so good.

27, 28, 29 was 6, 6 & 5 points. Nothing spectacular but 2 goals and an assist in those games. So GW23-29 would have been pretty good had the penalty gone in.

GW30 he got injured after 33 minutes and he didn't start again till GW33. We can therefore discount GW30-32 in assessing his potential. Sure, GW30 would have been annoying had you captained him (I did) but Salah also blanked that week as it happens. And you can't account for an injury, just have to roll with that.

GW33-34 were 1 & 2 points, that wasn't great. But Kane often takes a game or two after an injury, especially when there was a suspicion that he'd been rushed back. And GW35 he scored against Brighton with 2 BPs for 8 points.

So... if you exclude GW30-34 (and now I'm being selective of course but with some reason as already given) then Kane has 52 points in 8 GWs, average 6.5 per week. Had the GW26 penalty gone in (which it usually does) that would have been 61 points in 8 weeks, average 7.6 per week. Nothing wrong there.

It can be frustrating when a captain fails and I have had my fair share this season. I remember Aguero once going 7 games with only a single a goal at the start of one season and then exploding with 5 goals in GW8. A lot of people on FFS were tearing their hair out before that happened.

Essentially our discussion is between the 'macro' and the 'micro' picture. I mentioned all those Kane facts because they paint the macro view of the capability of the player. When a player has a less good run that is useful. In Kane's case it suggests that he'll hit a hot streak again soon enough. Hopefully tonight. 🙂

      POSTSCRIPT:

Kane kind of proved me right last night. Spurs had plenty of chances and could have scored many more. My prediction of 0-1 goals came true!

If I am to rely in any way on the wisdom of RMT tool (which I think is v useful btw!) then it looks like I shouldn't be so scared of Kane and I should go punty. This is how these transfer options would come out vs my current team:

    A) Vardy, Salah, Son > Kane, Sané, Lingard (-8) = Net loss 3 pts
    B) Vardy, Salah > Auba, Sané (-4) = Net gain 2 pts
    C) Salah, Morgan > Arnie, Alonso (-4) = Net gain 1pt
    D) Barnes > Ayew (FT) = Net gain 3 pts

    1FT £1.1itb
    DDG
    Vert, Smalling, Mustafi, Morgan
    Salah, Sterling, Eriksen, Son
    Jesus, Vardy

    (Ryan) (Mili, Barnes, Lowton)

Should I go with the stats and play option D)?! The other options feel drastic and leaving me open to get very burnt.

If it helps I am chasing and all those above me have Kane

    Cheers

If you are chasing and not by much I would advocate going Kane-less (although I happen to have him but I played my WC in 33).

I'd keep Salah and you have a great captain pick in Jesus. There is not much point in losing Vardy and the rest of your team is good.

I know it's the boring choice but D looks like the best bet in a 3-4-3.

I'm chasing by a fair amount in my cash league - I am 4th and 1st-3rd are 24-77 points ahead - and they all have Kane!

At the moment my gut is telling me just be boring this time and go D) and forget trying to shoehorn Kane in

Don't take hits to make your team more like your rivals. If you think they're going to captain Kane then you need to avoid him to stand a chance. You'll either catch them or get beaten by more points, but as you're not winning anyway...

Exactly what I'm thinking now - if somehow Kane doesn't find form again over the DGW then I may have a good differential by not owning

If it backfires then at least I tried something different!

Will wait and see re. injuries or bans news but looks like D) is my decision!

This is the predicament I am in. I have Morgan and Chilwell and there is a good chance that the pair could score me negative points over 4 games. However I also have Mahrez and Willian and only Jesus for city.

Son is going nowhere and if I had Pogba I'd be keeping too. I'm tempted to compromise and shift one of my Leicester defence for Smalling and lose Mahrez for Sterling. However, I might go further and get Sane as well.

          Fair enough.

But it’s still Monday. Plenty of news to occur these days.

          Good luck!

Assuming both are fit, who would you rather start in GW37:

    Lingard or Salah?

Pool's assistant manager (Buvac) has left for the rest of the season. Liverpool state this is due to personal reasons and temporary. Rough timing right before the CL tie.

Currently ranked just inside the top 20k. How many places do you think I would gain before a ball is kicked this gameweek if FPL updated tables based on hits taken?

        Specific, I like it.

Amazed at the -8, -12 comments I'm seeing flying around. It's not like players are shipping someone who is injured/suspended until the end of the season; it's guys with DGWs who are just out of form/rotation risks. Madness imo

This has become my new point of view also

Backed up by the mystical wisdom of the RMT tool also

I plan to use my FT to switch a dire player for a better one and that is that (Barnes > Ayew or Mustafi > Walker)

          Kane or no Kane!

Exactly! I can understand the odd -4/-8 earlier in the season if you've money tied up in someone who won't play for a while. It can pay for itself (to a greater or lesser extent). However if you do the following (which seems popular)

Leicester defender, Willian, Mahrez and Lukaku out
            VdH, Sterling, Silva, Jesus

for -12, you could be pitting the four new signings against four players who also play twice each next week. It would only take a couple of goals from the players you sell for the guys coming in to have almost no chance of matching the total (once the hit is considered).

Don't get me wrong, I like my team and I love the fact that people are giving back points. But take a second to think about whether you actually expect your team to score more points between now and the end of GW38 after taking a massive hit

Wise words mate - good luck!

Although mine is a pretty lonely place being Kane-less

In the last 10 or so pages of articles I might have seen 2 teams that don't have Kane lol

Good to see someone else acknowledging that Salah isn't the only SGW player worth picking!

I'm also benching King for my SGW place mid (who wants to be back on penalty duties!!). Also starting Robbo over my two Burnley defenders. Shipping Bobby to Auba though

I think Eriksen & Ayew will do well and are nailed.

Don't think you'll get much from Kenedy and who knows how much Wenger will rotate in these last few games

Thoughts on my team for 37 -

    DDG
    Smalling / Alonso / Cedric
    Eriksen / Son / Sterling / Willian*
    Murray* / Kane / Vardy*

    Ryan / Morgan / Gudmundsson / Lowton

    1FT, 0.2 itb

    A) Murray > Ayew
    B) Murray, Willian & Vardy > Ayew, Tadic & Jesus (-8)
    C) Willian & Vardy > Gundogan & Jesus (-4)
    D) Murray & Willian > Ayew & Pogba/Arnie (-4)

Thoughts on the next move? 30points behind ML leader but with the TC in hand

    Ddg — Ryan
Smalling Maguire alonso Cedric — lowton
Son pogba willian mahrez — king
    Kane Jesus

    A: mahrez > sterling..leaves 0.2m itb. Will need a hit in gw38 (alonso/sterling) to xxx/salah

B: Maguire + mahrez >> Davies + sterling (-4) exact funds. Then another hit in gw38 for salah

    C: Alonso + willian >> naughton + sterling (-4)...can then be punty in gw38 and do sterling/mahrez >> salah/zaha (or arnie/Ramsey)

    D: same as C (i.e. Alonso + willian >> naughton + sterling (-4)) but then can then keep sterling in gw38 and do Maguire/mahrez >> cheapie + salah (-4)
