Fantasy managers will very likely learn more about Chelsea assets from pre-season than they can from the Blues’ performances in 2018/19.

There has been a regime change at Stamford Bridge this summer, with Frank Lampard being appointed as head coach following the departure of the Juventus-bound Maurizio Sarri.

As a result, there’ll be a different system and style in place in west London next season to the regimented 4-3-3 ‘Sarri-ball’ we have become accustomed to over the last 12 months.

Lampard has already experimented with a 4-2-3-1, a 4-4-2 diamond and 4-1-4-1 in Chelsea’s pre-season fixtures so far and the aggressive press that he favoured at Derby County has been in evidence, too.

READ MORE: What Fantasy managers can expect from Frank Lampard

We Fantasy managers are also faced with the task of preparing for life without Eden Hazard for the first time in seven years.

How well the Blues can cope with their talisman’s exit is uncertain, particularly as their two-window transfer ban is still in operation.

There is still something to be gained by looking at the statistics from last season, however, to see which areas Lampard may need to address and which players could possibly shine following Hazard’s departure.

    Cant decide between...

    A: Wilson, Sterling, Zinchenko
B: KDB, Kane, Ake or another 5m defender

Almost as game breaking as the Vahrez season. Everyone could load up on big hitters, so we all had the same team...

Salah perma-captain or do you have another gem up your sleeve to rotate captaincy with?

If KdB is over hit fitness problems then he should be a reliable source of attacking returns, but it's a leap of faith at the moment.

I think it’s the Rodgers factor that swings Vardy for me

He has 10 G & 1 A in 11 games since Puel sacked... Rodgers has also basically cam out & said they’re going “all out attack” this year

Yeah, I don't have anything rational to backup up my thoughts on Vardy. I'm probably missing a trick as Leicester may earn a few penalties with the quality they have.

King I think is a trap.

Don’t know if you can access heat maps but he’s reverse oop. The only time he spent consistently in the box was when Wilson was out. He’s a winger who spends a lot of his time tracking back. Zaha for one is far more offensive than he is.

Look at his returns when Wilson is in the pitch and he’s very very penalty dependent. Bournemouth actually over performed with pens last season. The fixture run is irrelevant really as pens can come anytime.

When Wilson is out he becomes a real option - he plays as a forward and he scores goals.

              Thank you for that information.
It is obvious too though with the price tag as well as points scored last season.
Wilson is very expensive though atm. Just can't get them all can you 🙂

One decision that I keep changing my mind on is Ederson & 4.0 vs Ryan & Button

I honestly think the value is in the Brighton keepers, yet I have Ederson in my draft. I can't think of an affordable 3rd City player to have outside of Sterling and Zinchenko. KDB is not an option unfortunately. Thoughts?

    1. Brian Boitano
      • 14 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

Logically you are spending 1.5m more for 60 more points over the season. Can you upgrade a player for 1.5m elsewhere in your team for 60+ points more? If not, stick with Ederson.

      1. Moderately content penguin
        • 7 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

But we’re not picking a keeper for the season - just up to first WC when funds are tight. Ederson may be worth around 10 points or so - remember City only went on a cs run late last season. Lots here were sneering at City defence midseason

        1. Brian Boitano
          • 14 Years

Ederson is set and forget, you wouldn’t even change him unless he got injured.

I have gone with Ederson. Brighton have a more attacking coach which shouldn't be good. Plus at close to estimated 20 clean sheets Ederson would be great value compared to budget keepers.

      Zinc is a punt
      Ake dodgy Bournemouth defence

Im getting him in. There a lot of question marks in midfield so it might not be such a bad thing to have him as a placeholder for one or two game weeks at the start. And then move him on as a double transfer after gw 2, or after gw1 to get on an early bandwagon

Been on this for a couple of days:

    Fab/Button
    Robbo-VVD-Digne-Zinc-Taylor
    Salah-Sterling-Siggy-Maddy-Dendocker
    King-Deulo-Greenwood

Not 100% on Fab, Zinc, Maddy and might end up with 4.5 set and forget (Pope/Heaton?), Laporte, Tielemans/Perez tho I don't like LEI's early fixtures.

Would probably prefer Wilson over King but can move things around to get the 1.5 if need be.

    Any other thoughts?

I’d be concerned that Rico won’t play. Dendonker is your de facto starter.

This squad balance just won't work if there isn't a playing 4m defender. I'd also prefer Jorginho/Noble/Norwood as a 5m mid option on pens over Dendonker, ideally.

Still, didn't expect to squeeze that front 6 in.

Which team? A is the team I had settled on and B is trying to get Kane in.

    A)
    Ederson or Alison (button)
VVD / Coleman / dunk / Zinch (Diop)
Siggy / Pérez / Salah / sterling (deondo)
    Vardy / King (Greenwood)

    B)
    Pope (Button)
    VVD/Coleman/Laporte/Dunk (Diop)
Salah / KDB / Pérez (Deondo, Hayden)
    King / Vardy / Kane

Is Kane really worth squeezing in? Vardy is nailed for me (Leicester fan)

In team B do you need King? You could save 2m with Greenwood and improve elsewhere.

Playing a 5m Midfielder is so boring though 😕

Yeah I'm looking to fit in Vardy and Wilson too as they both seem the best value to me. Might have to start a 4.5 mid to get it though!

    3. Piggs Boson

I honestly don't think James is that good. Quick, hard-working, good at pressing, but his decision-making and technical ability is pretty poor from what I've seen. Perhaps harsh given his age, and the huge amount of pressure he's under, but just saying what I see. A valuable squad player to come on against tired legs, but I can't see him nailing a spot.

Martial Rashford Greenwood would be my guess GW1, maybe Jesse RW. Ole mentioned how pleased he was with how many times Lingard won the ball back.

        He is a placeholder tbh.
Maybe, just maybe IF Lukaku is out to Italy & Greenwood is in the contention to start ......
        A 4.5m striker + Player from MY club + Academy player 😀
        I'm all IN!!!

Looking at some possible ways to shave off some ££ to help upgrade the weak links.

        1. Piggs Boson
          • 14 Years
          7 years, 1 month ago

I really wouldn't gamble on Greenwood starting, and there is no need to when he's only 4.5m. You can easily downgrade a striker later on if he does nail a spot. He's only 17, so let's not get too carried away 😀

Go for nailed on players to start with imo. I highly doubt DCL and Zappacosta will be starting GW1.

Thoughts on a Wilson/King combo please? Outside the top six, Bournemouth were the highest scorers last season and this pair had over forty attacking returns between them so when Bournemouth do score one of them is usually involved The fixture list has also been very fair to them - only Manchester City in GW4 will have them reaching for the Imodium until the autumn.

Doubling up on players in the same position is risky even with City and Liverpool. It’s bonkers with Bournemouth.
