The jury is still out on Manchester United’s Fantasy assets going into the new campaign.

The new manager bounce that the club experienced after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment in December gave way to some middling form in the final nine Gameweeks of the season.

Their pre-season results (five wins from six) have been quietly encouraging, at least, with Inter Milan and Spurs among the teams already beaten in July.

This latest Numbers Game piece differs from the usual format as we focus on the impact Solskjaer had on United’s assets in the second half of last season.

The Norwegian first took charge of the Red Devils in Gameweek 18, so we will examine United’s stats before and after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Alright Moise, nice price. Get in my son, and do better than Maddison.

I get the appeal of running a 4.5 keeper over a premium such as Ederson or Allison - historically have proven much better value and I’m certainly heading down this path.

I also appreciate the conundrum of rotating 4.5 keepers as it can often lead to selecting the wrong one and leaving a haul on the bench during a difficult on paper fixture.

This leaves to running a solo 4.5/4.0 combo but the thing that worries me early in the season (and also throughout) is if you’re keeper doesn’t play due to a niggling injury is you’re left with either 0 points for your GK, or having to burn a transfer to get a playing keeper. It’s not as if Pope and Heaton don’t have suitable back-ups in Hart and Steer either. Might be wise to run with Ryan/Button initially and see how things are playing out after the first few GW’s..

If you are going with a single 4.5 keeper (which I usually do) then make sure your sub keeper is the 4.0 back up! So Ryan/ button does look tempting

Very little interest in Callum Robinson as a punt. The lad is a natural goalscorer and will probably be played as a forward anywhere across the front line. Great goalscoring record last two seasons. He will be their main man.

The problem is that they've brought in 2 forwards this summer to accompany Sharp (who is likely to be a starter) and McGoldrick (who is admittedly a bench option). I doubt they'd break their record on McBurnie and spend a considerable amount on Mousset just to then go and play Robinson up front. However, I will be keeping a close eye on him in the first few GWs, alongside Haller and Barkley.

Robinson and Mousset pretty much cost the same amount though and Robinson has actually settled in the club well playing every game since his arrival and scoring in almost all of them. Surely his place to lose at the moment imo.

I've been sat on a non-premium striker team for the last couple of days, but decided to have a tinker this lunchtime...

Which team do people think offers a better balance? Appreciate they are wildly different!

    A.
    Ederson / Button
    TAA / Robertson / AWB / Digne / 4.0
    Salah / Sterling / Perez / Barkley / Robinson
    King / Jota / Greenwood

    or

    B.
    Heaton / Button
    VVD / Robertson / Digne / Dunk / 4.0
    Salah / Sterling / Barkley / Dendonker / Norwood
    Kane / King / Adams

    Cheers, and appreciate the feedback.

With the news of Kean announced I’m finally on this team. It allows me the Everton and Leicester assets I wanted albeit not siggy and vardy but it’ll do.

    Pope
    Robbo TAA Zinchenko digne
    Salah sterling trossard Perez
    Wilson kean

    Button, lundstram, Greenwood, dendonker

This leaves me with 1.5m ITB and I’m unsure what to do with it, I can go kean to siggy and go 4-5-1 but kean for me is a place holder for potential Chelsea striker which gets start or 6.5m striker that pops off early doors. Likewise with trossard I think the fixtures are nice and I like him as a player from what I saw in pre season, he could become Barkley or Mount whichever nails down a place. Opinions on the current squad? And what to do with the 1.5m?

Very similar to mine. I will use the 1.5 to go for either Martial or Pulisic in place of the 6.0 mid, or to upgrade to Ederson in nets.

If I go ederson in goal would you keep zinchenko ir hedge your bets and maybe go for a spurs or united defender?

Problem with Kean is that he may need a few games to get into the flow of the EPL which would basically be leaving you with just one striker and nothing really to back him up with

    4. MJFainty
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 26 days ago

Does this definitely leave you 1.5 ITB? Also, with regards to your question about having Ederson and Zinch, I had the same dilemma and I think I've arrived at the decision that one of them is enough, so I'd probably go for Zinch and keep a 4.5 in goal.

Are Bournemouth right to demand £75M for Ake? In my eyes, if Maguire is worth £85M then Ake is £75M. The truth is neither are worth anywhere near these figures, but i don’t think Ake is too far behind Maguire in terms Of ability
