FPL Team of the Season: The final run-off vote

Like Disney with the Star Wars franchise, we’re really milking the Team of the Season article series for all its worth.

But we’ve got just one more poll to present to you before our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Team of the Season is complete.

It’s all in the name of democracy, as – unlike in previous campaigns – we’re effectively giving you the chance to pick the formation of this end-of-year XI and all of the personnel within it.

In past seasons, we’ve canvassed opinions before deciding on the final formation ourselves; how very autocratic.

As is the case with FPL squads, our line-up has to have the bare minimum of one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and one forward.

Following our week of voting, these names are as follows:

  • Aaron Ramsdale
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • Joao Cancelo
  • Andrew Robertson
  • Mohamed Salah
  • Son Heung-min
  • Harry Kane

Now, you can fill in the blanks with our run-off poll.

The players in the below list were the highest-polling FPL assets in their respective positions outside of the names above.

You’re allowed four votes and the deadline for this will be at 23:59 BST on Sunday 29 May.

For a recap of their credentials, check out the links below:

Individual awards for a team sport make little sense, and yes they are rarely fair, see Messi at Rio 2014! "Season" awards are based on past 3 months generally, KDB's 4 at Wolves did the trick!

I refuse to vote. It's a disgrace that Ramsdale has made the team of the season. He wouldn't know what a clean sheet is if a 10-man team with 1 shot on target walked up to him and introduced itself.

At this rate, Darren Fletcher will be the star midfielder in the team of the season.

Pricing of Man Utd defensive players will be interesting for 2022/23. They had a shocking season by their usual standards and so ought to be priced at the levels of teams such as Everton and Villa. There could then be value if they can get closer to how they usually perform (wouldn't even have to be that close - 10 CS would suffice at those prices). But I expect FPL will be defensive and price them all £1.0m higher than that on the basis they are a Big 6 club.

      1. Haa-lala-land
        • 3 Years

I don't think any of them should be over 5m. Mainly cause of uncertainty over who is first choice

        1. diesel001
          • 7 Years

Agree. On game time and performance, Lindelof, Bailly, AWB should be £4.5m. Maguire, Varane, Dalot, Shaw and Telles should be £5.0m. But I expect them all to be priced at £5.5m. That I think makes them risky to pick given the uncertainty around the way the new manager will perform.

Think your pricing is spot on, here.

None of them (Shaw potentially but it seldom materialises) offer that additional attacking threat to compensate for any clean sheet loss anyway; Reece James and Aymeric Laporte both started at £5.5m this season, for example. Think FPL would effectively be writing them off as a complete no-go from GW1 by making them £5.5m. At £5.0m, they'd at least be on a vague watchlist for any good run of fixtures providing there's some sort of ten Hag bounce/investment at DM.

      2. R.C
        • 6 Years
        1 year, 11 months ago

They won't keep many CS. Even if they're priced lower, they'll still be poor value.

Only Shaw would be an exception if he can get his mojo back.

I’d price them at 5. Any less and everyone gets them. Any more and nobody does. Utd are still Utd at the end of the day

      4. Mr. O'Connell
        • 11 Years
        1 year, 11 months ago

They should all be 5m. They're a top 6 team at the end of the day. However there is no standout option there. The full backs are extremely poor and offer little to no attacking threat so you can't price them any higher. Also, no-one even knows what the first choice backline will be.

I would prefer Forest. Think their counter attacking style would be more suited to the PL in their first season. Plus they play in a stadium that is fitting for the PL.

However, Forest have struggled against the better Championship teams who like to have high possession and I see Huddersfield being a tricky proposition for them today. Maybe being at a neutral ground will help them.

Probably, but probably not. The forward "Premium" price tag is a mockery these days in terms of price vs output when you compare it to the wealth available in midfield. Depends how they are labelled (FWD v MID) for me.

The way I see it, it's the only way to get both Haaland and Son. I generally maintain a rule of 2x10m+ premiums.

Damn Luiz will be highly priced now

What is the disappointment? I don't get it.

Mane potentially leaving would make Diaz nailed on the left side and hence priced up higher than if he's just in rotation. X

            But why is that bad?

Why is everyone assuming that Liverpool won’t replace Mane?

Because they brought in Diaz to fill an anticipated gap, and had to get him 6 months early. If they splash out big money this summer, it will be to get Bellingham.

Now that would be a signing.

But I don't think Dortmund will let Haaland and Bellers go in the same window. Liverpool would have to wait a year, like they did for VVD. That also means not blowing the money on a player they didn't have in their plans. Maybe Oxbridge-C or Minamito get more gametime.

Dembele on a free becomes priority number one. It's actually not Mane they need to replace it's Firmino.

Here we go. I can't get it on the telly, but I'm following the fight for next season's PL 20th spot online.

      Yates G

      Huddersfield 0-1 Forest

Great delivery from Garner. Ten Hag might want to keep him at this rate.

Or used to increase transfer budget. Either way good for United

Is there going to be just one International Break in late September (for the UEFA National League games 5 and 6) between the start of the PL and the World Cup ?

Still early but would be great to have Forest back in the PL!

Agreed. Seems the VAR think the same too! Huddersfield really unlucky not to get a penalty on two occasions now..
