FPL is live: What’s new for 2022/23

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has relaunched for the 2022/23 season and managers can now set their squads up for the new campaign – as well as try to grab a low team ID!

The launch comes after four days of price reveals in which 219 Premier League players were priced up across all 20 top-flight clubs.

We’ll round up the newly released prices in an article later.

WHAT’S NEW IN FPL

UNLIMITED TRANSFERS DURING THE WORLD CUP
Enter your nominations for World Cup of FPL assets

Fantasy managers will get unlimited transfers during the six-week hiatus between Gameweeks 16 and 17, when the Premier League takes a break to accommodate the World Cup.

It’s effectively a third chance to completely overhaul your squad, as the two usual Wildcards remain in place: the first has to be used by Gameweek 16, while the second can only be activated from Gameweek 18 onwards.

TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTIFICATION

One of the other biggest changes is not to the gameplay but to the security of the site.

Following a spate of high-profile hackings in 2021/22, FPL have introduced Two-Factor Authentification (2FA) by popular demand.

Here’s how to beef up security on your Fantasy Premier League account:

  • Go to https://premierleague.com
  • Click on your Profile Name (top right corner on desktop)
  • Go to Manage Profile
  • Go to Account Security
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentification and follow the on-screen steps from there

WHAT’S STAYED THE SAME IN FPL

Graphics aside, everything else of note in FPL seems to have remained the same.

The chips are as they were (two Wildcards, one Free Hit, one Bench Boost and one Triple Captain), with the obvious exception being the extra Free Hit that FPL granted us in a Covid-affected 2021/22.

The scoring system is identical, with the Gameweek deadlines remaining at 90 minutes prior to the first kick-off.

YOUR FPL ESSENTIALS FOR 2022/23

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 38? 6

If you’ve been taking a well-earned break from all things FPL over the summer, welcome back. If you’ve stayed with us through the lean, Fantasy-less weeks, thanks for your dedication!

The FPL planning for Gameweek 1 starts in earnest here and we’ve got all the tools and articles you need to help with your pre-season preparation.

PRE-SEASON TAB

Speaking of pre-season, our dedicated page lists all the summer friendlies, the minutes played in these warm-up matches and who has been racking up the goals and assists. We’ll have Scout Notes on all of these friendlies, to see if we can unearth the next John Lundstram ahead of Gameweek 1.

SET-PIECE TAKERS

Our list of set-piece takers has been updated and refreshed, for those of you who are looking to get clued-up on those responsible for penalties, corners and free-kicks.

NEW SIGNINGS ASSESSED

There have been some high-profile transfers already taking place this summer and we are documenting them all on our Transfers page. The biggest moves will get their own dedicated Scout Reports, while we’ll also cover every other noteworthy incoming transfer in our regular round-up.

SEASON TICKER

Our Season Ticker can help you sort by opponent difficulty to spot those upcoming fixture swings, while you can also find out which teams’ matches rotate well.

Wolves, for example, are top of our Season Ticker over the first six Gameweeks of 2022/23 – but there are some tough games ahead for Crystal Palace.

Disagree with the Fantasy Football Scout difficulty ratings? Add you own to customise your experience.

RATE MY TEAM AND PROJECTIONS

Our Projections and Rate My Team tools will both be live for the new season soon, allowing you to see how many points our algorithm thinks you’ll score and which players you should bench.

COMPARE PLAYER AND TEAM STATS FROM PREVIOUS SEASONS

Want to do your own research into the next FPL gem for 2022/23?

From goal threat to expected data, we’ve got hundreds upon hundreds of player and team statistics available, which can help guide your Fantasy transfer decisions.

Premium Members can also create custom tables based on the data available and share them with other subscribers to help with FPL team planning.

Stuck between potential transfer targets for the upcoming Gameweek? You can now compare up to three players head-to-head at the same time, with over 100 key statistics and graphics to study side by side, while new visuals make for easier comparisons:

          Exactly.
Jump on whoever is in form... just in time for Pep to bench him for the next 5 games for no apparent reason whatsoever!

Yup. Plan to start with Cancelo and Halaand, and then consider Walker or one of the 7.0-8.0 midfielders depending on how things are going.

Agree re 7/8 MIDs, less so about Walker - think we see his mins diminish even further than last season.
            15/16 > 18/19 avg 2700mins-ish
            Then 19/20 drops by 400mins.
            20/21 another 400mins down
            21/22 a further 200mins.

I fear it may be a pattern.
            Hence his pricetag

    Since Matip is 6.0 m.
    Isn't Alisson a good deal at 5.5 m?

    1. Brimble82

      1 year, 10 months ago

All GKs are now a 'good deal'
It's just the fact that we only have three LIV spots!
To be honest, if you're debating between Matip & Alisson I don't think you're using your LIV spots most wisely!

Allison does have two 170+ Scores in the last 4 seasons, he’s not a bad shout for a pool spot

          I don't deny that.
He's currently my 6th favourite Liverpool asset though.
It's hard to look past Mo, Diaz, Trent, Robbo, VVD.
I do love the £0.5m saving though.

    2. Deulofail
      • 8 Years

Not sure how one relates to the other. Alisson is 1m more than Raya, while Matip is 1m more than Cash. I think I'd rather spend that million on Matip, personally. He's actually in my team right now. Could reduce the gap to the fullbacks this season

      1. Brimble82

Agree. 'If'. I foresee that Konate starts to start more PL games next season and Matip is a brilliant cup/understudy.

      Yup.
      Drafted a '5-4-2' - where the 5th (£4.5m) DEF will rotate with my 4th (mid-range) MID
Other two subs will be fodders

    2. gart888

Yeah. I'm on 5-3-2 or 4-4-2 depending on which 2 I play out of Tomiyasu, Jonny, and Neto any given week. I suppose that's a bit of a problem since it forces me to play a Wolves player in tough fixtures.

    3. Andy_Social
      • 11 Years

    Thoughts on this draft?

    Travers

    Diaz - ASM - Martinelli - Son

Kelleher as your 4.0GK will limit you - get literally any other 4.0m
      Havertz is different.
Not sure i like him as a FWD - especially considering tfr talk at the Bridge - so wait and see what Boehly gets up to.

I actually like your DEF/MID. Not 100% sold on Travers/AIN, but each to their own.
      I'd probably go Travers>Mendy, AIN>Arsenal/Leicester and Elanga>4.5

      Cancelo > Laporte

      Snachez > Mendy
Patterson > Dunk (if you want BHA def, any 4.5) for a stronger bench

That's a lot of Arsenal! Think you could take Watkins over Jesus and save the 0.5. I've landed on something very similar by the way. I see you've swerved Chelsea defense for now?

    4. The Mighty Hippo

Thanks for your comments. I've now done some tweaking and moved Cancelo to Laporte and Martinelli to Neto. That gives me the funds to upgrade my g/k to a 5.0 and allows me to bring Trippier in to replace Patterson. The overall team looks much more flexible.

        Interesting!!

United assets feel more a wait and see for now, though, no?

However if Rash has consistent gametime… At 6.5 he’s amazing

I think you may have defined the template here.

Salah & Diaz could be dynamite, but if you fear no Spurs, Diaz>Kulu is the easy switch

ASM going under the radar a little? Back as a mid now, produced decent numbers last season, and should get better this season

yeah he's my 6.5 mid atm, just fancy Newcastle to start strongly at home in the first game, he's an easy switch to Trossard or even Rashford if he fails

But partially because nobodies really talking him up all that much.

Let's keep it on the DL.

He was great for me last season when everyone else went Willock. Keen to see if he starts pre-season, and if so, he'll be taking that 5.5/6 midfield slot

With Southampton at home in GW1 I just can’t see past having both Kane AND Son

Which of Salah or Haaland would you sacrifice? Could do it with booking in Kane to Haaland?

        That’s exactly my current thinking.

I do have a draft with all 4, but it has no Trent/Cancelo/James and instead the 5.0 defs like Doherty/Cash/Cresswell

No I don't think he is.

Raphinha, Grealish are the ones I'm looking at.

Really good, but I'd want an extra 1m for my first bench.

Nick Pope at Newcastle for 5.0M could be a good differential option.

I must say he looked undroppable at the end of last season.
It’s also worth noting being a left footer on the right he cuts in, something he won’t get with Richarlison

    Template?

    Mendy
    Trent | Cancelo | Doherty | Tomiyasu
    Salah | Diaz | Kulusevski | Gordon
    Haaland | Jesus

    4.0 keeper | 4.5 mid | 4.0 def | 4.5 fwd

    1. SEXY SALAH
      • 7 Years

Or a better 5.5 mid than Gordon if there is one (not convinced on Neto)

  28. Ser Davos

Until someone really screams out, I'm inclined to go for a 4.5/Rice type for 2-3 points rather than spunk more on what currently stands as flakey and unpredictable options

    1. Andy_Social
      • 11 Years

A lot of those flaky options will benefit from the 5 sub change. I don't mind punting on the likes of Chukwuemeka to come off the bench for a point and maybe more. Having said that, if Andreas goes to be #10 at Fulham and is first choice, he's nailed into my squad.

What does it mean to run out of money? I can just sell my players for the price I bought them for, immediately, and then POOOF.... money in the bank! Pretty handy. I hope I don't lose money like these other people you're talking about. Unfortunate.

He's very much a wait-and-see unless he pulls up trees in pre-season.
