How Liverpool’s key FPL assets compare ahead of 2019/20

With a week to go before Gameweek 1, five of the eight most-owned Fantasy Premier League assets are on Liverpool’s books.

The Reds’ players were a rich source of FPL points last season and there is optimism that they can replicate that in 2019/20, although we have had to swallow price rises with a number of their key Fantasy assets.

FPL managers will be especially keen on Liverpool in the first two months of the upcoming season, with the Reds sitting second on our Season Ticker in Gameweeks 1 to 8.

Can the Reds match their performance levels of 2018/19, though?

In our latest Numbers Game series, we assess Liverpool’s key underlying statistics from last season and highlight the numbers that matter to Fantasy bosses.

I *think* he might get more involvement now. His stats aren't bad at all at Euro U-21.

I mean, it's a 5.5 punt anyway, but I do believe he'll be more of a protagonist now.

He's an interesting one certainly. Could make a mockery of 5.5m but it's the question marks over emery roulette (they have about 5 attacking mids + 3 quality fwds), and whether he'll just play deep. The arsenal game at the weekend could be interesting although guessing pepe won't be around yet to make proper assessment of preferred setup.

I see most of the guys on here going for the keepers like Pope, Heaton and Fabianski instead of top teams keepers like Alisson, De Gea, etc. Why don't you spend just 1m more to be more confident of CS points?

It's more likely to be Ederson because the City defence is more uncertain and less prolific.

Yeah, fair enough. Definitely ederson over allison in that scenario. I'm waiting on city defence to see who emerges as the clear best pick.

Can't see anything would change for Laporte and Walker compared to last season, so I'd say those two are relatively nailed. Stones, Otamendi in CB and Zinchenko, Angelino and Mendy (if and when he comes back) are likely to be rotated but of course things could change and Pep is unpredictable.

I'm on Walker myself but I notice news of City considering forking out about 50m for another RB.

Of course that'd change things if there were any new transfers, I just assumed the squad stays as it is right now. Pep doesn't seem to rate Danilo at all so unless there is a transfer Walker seems quite safe to me.

I made that point this morning to a regular poster and he got really aggressive. But then an article posted earlier today completely proved my - and your point. So never mind what most people do - you just go ahead and do the right thing.

This is an approach which may be effective but I didn't really expect this amount of people going for cheap options. I haven't tried it till now at least.

    4. CostaCoffee
      • 10 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

Either go all out with Allison/Ederson or go cheap imo. Most people already have 3 Liverpool players or have Zinchenko as a cheaper alternative to Ederson. The 5.5 gk bracket ain’t worth imo

      1. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

I think the 5.5s are alright if you have 3 Citizens and 3 Reds. The article on value had all the 5.5-6m keepers except De Gea as good value based on last season, but only one 4.5-5m keeper in that bracket.

        1. CostaCoffee
          • 10 Years

If it’s based on last season, Pope didn’t play at all and Heaton played about half the season. Those are the 2 best options currently

I agree Lloris is a quality keeper, he will be up there. Likewise, De Gea if man utd get their act together. I was on ederson for ages, but tbh at the end of the day the reason I'm probably gambling is that it feels more fun (spending budget on outfield players) and its fairly marginal risk in the grand scheme points wise. But think you can justify a number of choices

    5. Miguel Sanchez

These were my thoughts on the matter.

If you take 4.0 as the base you have to spend on the GK positions the first 0.5 you spend on a 4.5 like Heaton or Pope can get you 150 points in a good season. The 2.0 you have to spend on Ederson/Allison at 6.0 can get you 170 points. So for me the value is with the 4.5 GK. Just gotta get on the right one early with Heaton, Henderson and Pope all very good options.

      1. Prince of Persia
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

150 is considered to be a good points with acceptable number of clean sheets. I don't think Heaton and Pope can achieve that.

        2. George Sillett

They don't have to for a 4.5 for it to be considered good in my opinion. If you equate it to points per million spent with 170 at 6M as the benchmark then 4.5M is 127.5 . Achievable with Heaton , Pope or Henderson.

          1. Andy_Social
            • 11 Years

My point is last season only 10% of them achieved that. 12 months ago we thought Begovic, Hart and Hennessey would reach that target.

Oh, you're making the same point the earlier guy got aggressive over, so I'll just post once now. Your key phrase is "in a good season/just gotta get on the right one". His argument was based on only looking at the best scoring 4.5s and conveniently ignoring the lower scoring ones, the ones who were dropped because they didn't fit his view. My point is that of all the keepers starting at 4.5 last season only one turned out to be good value. So you have about a 10% chance of getting it right from the off. As an example, I mentioned that in GW1 last season Begovic and Hart were pretty popular; Heaton and Henderson might turn out to be this season's equivalent. Of the expensive keepers all bar one turned out to be good value, so they are not punts. They give you points, value and security.

        1. Prince of Persia
          • 9 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

I agree. Even for the guys preferring a cheap GK, it seems rational to start with a 5.5 or 6 one and after a coupe of weeks and recognizing the smaller teams with solid defensive structure switch to the cheaper options.

It is admittedly a very reductivist way of thinking and I can see value in a strategy of starting with a premium keeper and then moving on to the best 4.5 keeper when it becomes clear who the season Butland, Pope or Heaton is gonna be.

          1. Andy_Social
            • 11 Years

As a temporary measure, you can start with Foster at 5m who has 4 easy games. That gives you time to assess which 4.5 you want to plump for.

        3. Pompel
          • 10 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

Or more precisely: the premium keepers give you security of points, decent value, while the 4.5's give you possibly comparable points and even better valye - if you pick the right ones.
Or look at it this way: what is likely to increase your total points the most: upgrading a 4.5m keeper to a 6m keeper, or a 5m midfielder or forward to a 6.5m? The linear regression of PPM vs price is simply different for keeper vs midfielders and forwards.

          1. Andy_Social
            • 11 Years
            4 years, 7 months ago

The strikers and mids at 6m and below are punty in the extreme whereas the GK is premium. now, out of those punty cheap sorts, bandwagons will emerge - right now we have no idea who they are. So if you start with known quantities, you can move onto the 'right' cheap options when it's clear who they are.

I'm starting expensive at the back. This gives me the option to keep going with them through the season, or to cash them in for cheaper GK/defenders who emerge, in order to jump onto the midf/str bandwagons later on. It just seems more sensible than speculating wildly about who the new stars are going to be and finding yourself playing and early WC and taking hits because your guesses were mostly wrong.

    6. Klaren
      • 6 Years

I normally like 4.5 options but don't like any of the choices this season to start the season with for different reasons. Ryan is risky because of the new manager with more offensive mindset, Pope and Henderson have bad fixtures first couple of GWs and while I haven't watched them much last season, Aston Villa's manager also seems to prioritise attack and their defensive stats in Championship don't look good at all.

One of the last dilemmas before dead line

That's just silly. Digne has better fixtures and is 100% nailed to start, plus he's more of an attacking threat than Z

I'm not sure that I like Zinchenko myself because of rotation threat but wouldn't call that silly, just a different viewpoint. City is a much stronger team than Everton after all and arguably has better chances of CS even with more difficult fixtures especially as Everton lost Gueye and Zouma.

I'm all behind it. Always followed the principle even though I couldn't have thrown out any figures. It can partly depend on whether your Starting X (never mind GKs) are nailed or subject to rotation though. But I've always said a dead keeper and one dead sub is okay but you must have 2 active subs to cover unpredictable scenarios. This year we're lucky to have Donckers as an easy 4.5 mid but the big trap for many is getting a 4m defender. These guys if they make the pitch at all are often benched in real life by GW3 never to see grass again, and they just become millstones on your squad. I recommend having a playing 4.5 defender to join Donckers, and the depending on your formation one bottom-of-the-barrel end-of-bench pick.

Well I have gone without Salah/Sterling in favour of a good overall squad. Two Chelsea lads Azapiliceuta and Barkley on the bench with Dendonker.

I plan to use those Chesea players gw3 onwards for definite
The bench can be a good place to 'store' players for future fixtures.
Burnley would be another team who come good in about a months time gw5

    Salah/Mane (22)
    Sterling (17)
    Richa/Siggy/Pog (13)

Looks a steal.at 6.5. Playing for more attacking keicester team expect him to get more returns

I think I finally cracked a Bournemouth exit strategy for gw3 - will badly need to get on to sterling/aguero then for City's run of fixtures then

    (1.5 itb)

    Alison ♦ (button)
    ◘◘◘
    Coleman ♦ KWP ♦ TAA ♦ Robertson ♦ (Azpiliecueta)
    ◘◘◘
    Fraser ♦ Bsilva ♦ Perez ♦ (Barkley-Dendoncker)
    ◘◘◘
    Kane ♦ King ♦ Wilson

    save transfer then

    *before gw3*

Wilson OUT any 4.5m striker IN

    Fraser OUT Sterilng IN

Bench - King Dendonker and a.n other

Plus it has the added bonus of potential save points for Alison v Arsenal gw3
Price fluctuations will not matter because I have the .5 leeway.
Also because the bench is reasonably strong any injuries should not make too much difference - unless I get very unlucky
    ====
If sterling is injured or a doubt I could get Aguero in for Wilson and a 4.5 in for faser or Jorginho if there is no price fluctuations.

And I thought my Mo and Sterling free side was offbeat!

You could be well ahead of the pack of course with a viable first sub. The principle prob I see with your exit strategy is that it leaves you with King - much the least desirable option.

You are dead right selling Wilson for a 'difficult fixture' knocked me out of a last man standing fpl money league.
He scored and it was for a hit.
At least this way I can only assume that Sterling will soften any blow in future game-weeks.
Bournemouth have OKish fixtures after gw3.
KWP is a gem at 5.0 for that first fixture - I remember last season he got a huge score one gameweek.
I was raging because Trippier was benched!

I am trying to play fpl like snooker table leaving myself the best possible options.

As for the subs I only realsed today that there was no point in me trying to phase in Chelsea players.
So I got Barklay in too - already had azpi.
Had to get rid of Sigurdsson to it though - that may come back to bite me.

Tbh it's too risky to start the season without Salah and Sterling, especially as Salah will be the most captained player by a big margin in GW1. Yes it could pay off, but you could also fall behind considerably if things don't go your way.

Depends on your risk acceptance level I guess.

      1. Wrong Captain Choice - Ag i…

I am willing to accept the risk. I know it could fall flat.
But overall even if salah bags a hattie and liverpool win 3-1 surely the wingbacks would have been involved in something?
Even then there is a good chance Bournmouth hammer Sheff Utd or Kane does well v Villa.
That is the way I am thinking anyway.
I am taking the risk because I was trying to figure out a way to get a decent chance of a good start.
Treble Liverpool defence and a good overall squad for the first 4-6 gameweeks seems worth the roll of the dice to me.
