The impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has had on Southampton’s FPL assets

Southampton are one of the most overlooked teams in Fantasy Premier League as Gameweek 1 draws ever nearer.

Only one of the Saints’ FPL assets is owned by more than 2.5% of managers: Shane Long (£5.0m), who, barring injuries, is expected to be among the substitutes when Southampton run out at Turf Moor this Saturday.

While the south coast club’s fixtures are a horror show between Gameweeks 7 and 13 (all of the sides they face in this period finished in the top nine last season), there are some more appealing encounters with Burnley, Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth in the first half-dozen Gameweeks.

Pre-season results are not always a reliable barometer but the Saints are unbeaten in five matches this summer, winning four of them.

New signing Che Adams (£6.0m) has arguably been the stand-out performer, with three goals and two assists.

Is there anything to encourage Fantasy investment in the first six Gameweeks, then?

In this latest Numbers Game article, we take a slightly different approach to the series template and instead focus on the impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has made on Southampton following his appointment in December 2018.

    @TSPARKS10

I know about how good defensively you guys are, but have little or no knowledge about the attack?

Some points by you would be useful.

Also, how do you think sharp will do in PL? And what's with Robinson playing as oop St?

PS : it was posted 2 days ago, but think you missed it then

Sorry lad 🙂 hadn't seen them.

Sharps game time will be very inconsistent imo. Getting to the old age and have younger faster strikers now... Saying that when he plays he will score and maybe on pens aswell but I'm avoiding especially for 6.0m.

Robinson is a great player and definately playing up top. Suits our system well as has good movement and tall. Also should be nailed for first few as he has had the best preseason. I was set on him but just don't want to ruin watching Sheff U at the lane so going to avoid him as I want to minimise any fpl thoughts when supporting my team 🙂

Coleman 100% nailed. Captain but has an injury record. They need a decent back up because of this. But sidibe nowhere near the player you remember being linked with united in the years of mendy. Monaco are now relegation candidates last two years, sidibe won’t affect coleman’s Place

Does anyone see Man City actually keeping a clean sheet against West ham without Laporte? And then Spurs when he returns? With the doubt surrounding Zinchenko and with Mendy back, i don’t think he’s a good option, i’m not convinced anymore

            That’s a very decent call.

Just posted something below about placeholder. In my set up Auba is in effect my 9.5 mid placeholder - allowing me a real sub option too from week 3 onwards in theory.

It’ll go wrong of course 🙂

Sterling will certainly (barring injury) outscore KDB over the whole season, but they'll likely both get over 200 points as well. KDB as a set and forget who regularly gets 6-10 points is less flashy but excellent value.

Also since i don't plan on captaining Sterling in GW 1 or 2 (Salah c) i'm pretty confident that the extra 2.5 mil on upgrading 1 or 2 other players will give a greater return.

I'll then look to make 2 or 3 transfers for GW 3 to get Aguero or Sterling in as well as whatever Chelsea midfielder / attacker looks good or an early bandwagon.

I just posted exactly this. Captain is a huge thing and the 2.5m if used right could do wonders

Thing is. Im looking now and tbh I'm happy with most of the team and not sure where I'd spend the 2.5m. I like Robinson as a 5.5m mid and Wesley. Would probs either upgrade GK or Perez to a 8.5/9.0m mid but none stand out.. Hmmm

Obviously depends on team, but for me it allows upgrading to Fraser (or King -> Wilson) and most of the funds for a second liverpool defender.

KdB at 200 points perhaps if he’s further forward. But in a deeper role he could equally look great but return at 170 level. That would make him marginal.

Strategic issue is whether he’s value for you as 9.5 placeholder alongside two premiums. In my set up he’d be a second 9.5 - hence out.

He aint playing deeper. Rodrigo and fernandinho will sit. He'll have bags of freedom especially at home, I think he'll do wonders

This is what I’m getting confused about. Getting different reports about where he’s starting. Finding it hard to see Rod and Fern as a consistent combo in the middle. But you never know.

For now holding off and going Sterling. He’ll be in for Sterling if the returns come and he looks to be consistently AM

Whose your first 9.5m? Pepe? He's definitely one i'm watching to see if he settles as could be a very profitable way into the Arsenal attack.

I want to say B, but it's very dangerous to go without Sterling at the start.

    Hi all,
    something a slightly different :). U like:

    A:
    De Gea, button

    robbo, digne, (dunk, landstom, rico)

    zaha, salah, sterling, perez (dond)

    haller, wilson, kean

3-4-3 with rotating with dunky, rico and landstrom. Zaha only if he moves to everton, otherwise i find someone else. A bit punty with the forwards, but could be interesting. Think Kean can be really good, and as an Evertonian I like it! 🙂

    More dull option is:

    B:
    Pope, button
    robbo, AWB/mcguire, digne, Toby,( rico)

    salah, perez, sterling, frazer (mcginn)

    wilson, kean, (greenwood)

    Team A or B?

    A. Alisson, McGovern, Montoya, Bernardo Silva and Digne

    B. Heaton, Ryan, Diop, Pepe and Ake

Ake and Pepe both have 2 great games 1st..

    Struggling here

Yes I am leaning towards that. Do you think Bernardo or someone else below 8m (already got sterling)

Pepe might not start GW1 along with Ceballos according to reports.

      Tentatively B.

Spurs could thump villa by 4 or 5 as they have so many players to bed in. Defender attacker returns are a lottery, but Van Dijk has looked good in pre season, TAA less son. Digne also looked better in pre season than Coleman.

But pre season isn't the same as a league game. Probably only a handful of points in it.

Is Duffy a good option this season or were those pre-season goals classic troll goals?

It just proves he gets in the box to make those goal attempts. That will probably never change.

For those looking at a 4.5 midfielder. Marvelous Nakamba is 4.5 and has now been added to FPL. No idea if he'll play or not, but you never know.

        Defensive mid.

    A. King to Wilson
    B. Sigurdsson to De Bruyne

I have Sterling, and will be using Ibe to facilitate the transfers given he's likely to start and I don't really like the 6.5mil options.

    RMT please:

    Pope
    Perreira Zinchenko AWB VVD
    Salah Sterling Robinson
    Wilson Auba Adams

    4.0 — Dendonker — Hayden — Rico

Different but looks OK, I'd go Digne or a second Pool over Perreira
