The impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has had on Southampton’s FPL assets

Southampton are one of the most overlooked teams in Fantasy Premier League as Gameweek 1 draws ever nearer.

Only one of the Saints’ FPL assets is owned by more than 2.5% of managers: Shane Long (£5.0m), who, barring injuries, is expected to be among the substitutes when Southampton run out at Turf Moor this Saturday.

While the south coast club’s fixtures are a horror show between Gameweeks 7 and 13 (all of the sides they face in this period finished in the top nine last season), there are some more appealing encounters with Burnley, Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth in the first half-dozen Gameweeks.

Pre-season results are not always a reliable barometer but the Saints are unbeaten in five matches this summer, winning four of them.

New signing Che Adams (£6.0m) has arguably been the stand-out performer, with three goals and two assists.

Is there anything to encourage Fantasy investment in the first six Gameweeks, then?

In this latest Numbers Game article, we take a slightly different approach to the series template and instead focus on the impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has made on Southampton following his appointment in December 2018.

I think that there is more value in improving your weak defence instead of owning Firmino whilst rotation risks and a poor bench is going to cause you problems.

    Morning all,

Thoughts on City defence? I've been on Zinchenko for weeks but slowly going off the idea.

First two fixtures are tricky and the defence seems a little uncertain.

    Options are:
    A) Zin & Robinson
    B) 4.5 & Barkley + 0.5 ITB for King > Kean in a couple of weeks if looks good

    Ings or King?

Both on penalties. Bmouth easier fixtures but Ings has been in pre season form and is 0.5 cheaper

My starting 11 seem fairly locked in now, so I'm turning my attention to my bench optjons. It's going to be cheap, so there isn't much to play with, however I'd appreciate input on the fiollowing:

GK: 4.0, I assume Button isn't the best option unless twinned with Ryan, since he'll be highly owned and could therefore drop in price quickly? Options : McGovern, Stekelenburg?

DEF: 4.0. Options: Lundstram, Kelly (high ownership) , Rico, Gibson?

MID: 4.5. Options : Dendonker, Hayden, Stephens?

FWD: 4.5. Options : Greenwood, Wickham?

I would say Rico, Dendonker, and Greenwood

Hey guys, which do you prefer?

    A) Zinchenko, Sterling and Wilson or
    B) Ake, KDB, and Kane.

I'm drawn to A initially and B longer term

B, only for the reason that all three would most likely be on the pitch. Not so convinced with A.

Your mid looks quite impressive, but very costly, thats where I would downgrade, and upgrade up front. Nothing wrong with any of them, but for me it is important to have reliable starters. Hope that helps

I am just wondering how "though" are those fixtures of Bou really after GW2? Beside GW3, I don't see them as "though" as people make them sound, they aren't easy alright (guess its the PL), but I can see Wilson/ Fraser doing quite well in them, or am I missing something?

You ain't missing anything, Udo. Only perhaps the City match will they struggle to score but I can see them scoring in all of the rest.

Would you rather start with KWP in 442 or Robinson in 352?

KWP if he seems to be nailed for most matches until Foyth starts training in September.

      If not, Robinson

What do you see as the best keeper combo?

    A) 5.5/6.0 set and forget and 4.0
    B) 4.5 / 4.5 rotation
    C) 4.5 / 4.0 to move funds forward on the pitch

I've decided to go defender heavy on my squad with 3 useable subs. Any suggested changes?

    Ederson (Heaton)
    Laporte, VVD, Evans, Robbo, AWB
    Perez, KdB, Salah, Zaha (Dendonker)
    King (Wood, Inge)

If you got Ederson, I don't see why i need Heaton.

Also i'd go Wesley as Villa has a good fixtures after GW1

Guys I more or less settled my team already i'm only stuck with my defence and goal keeper.

    Goalkeeper Button (4Mil), Heaten (4.5Mil)

    Defender: Kelly (4Mil), Lundstram (4Mil)

    I have a extra 0.5 Mil ITB. Should I

    A. Upgrade Kelly
    B Upgrade Button to Pope
    C Just Keep it ITB
