Update on FFScout Memberships

In light of the Premier League’s recent announcement, Fantasy Football Scout would like to clarify the situation for our existing members.

The Premier League is now suspended until April 4, which means all Gameweek 30 and 31 fixtures have been postponed.

That, in turn, means there are no more matches of Fantasy relevance in the month of March.

While our Members’ tools remain open to use, and strategy-based articles will continue to be posted behind the paywall, we appreciate that, even as we all look forward to the return of the league, there is no immediate Gameweek to prepare for.

We would encourage you not to cancel your Scout membership as, once you do, you will immediately lose the benefits of access to the Members Area, data, tools and any articles we produce behind the paywall.

Instead, if you signed up for a rolling monthly subscription that has missed (or will in the future miss) a Gameweek due to the Premier League suspension, we are happy to offer a cancellation and partial refund for the relevant period. If so, get in touch with support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Naturally, should further postponements occur in the Premier League, beyond April 4, then this policy will continue for that period, so you won’t be paying for Gameweeks that you miss.

What to do if you think you might have coronavirus*

If you think you might have coronavirus or you’ve been in close contact with someone who has it:

  • stay at home and avoid close contact with other people
  • do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital
  • use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do next

The 111 coronavirus service will tell you if you need to continue to stay at home (self-isolate) or if you need medical help.

Looking at safety measures put in place elsewhere cant help the feelling that UK echelons are taking the whole corona virus thing bit lightly.

    1. Fred54
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 2 months ago

Bit of both. UK authorities want it to spread, but in a controlled manner, to build up immunity.

However advice for anyone with even mild symptoms is to self isolate.

Europe countries with their lock dows/partial lock downs are only delaying the inevitable.

Whether other measures are just delaying the inevitable is very debatable and probably incorrect. If you look at the experience from China and South Korea you can see how enhanced action can bring this under control.

FWIW, travelling isn’t the problem. Socialising is.

It seems like the only sensible idea I’ve heard.

Anyone thinking the season will just be cancelled is likely just wishful thinking and comes from a biased opinion.

Ok way or another, the season gets played out. There are just way too many implications to try and deal with otherwise.

          Exactly this.

Without having answers to those things it would cause absolute chaos in all English leagues, champs league/europa league the following year as well.

If it did cancel, a lot of clubs would go into administration.

True. UEFA resigned to moving the Euros to 2021 though. Be interesting to see what they do with CL and EL. I think if any, those are the comps that will be null and void, and even that may be unlikely.

It's going to be interesting as the CL/EL cycles will surely have to stay in sync with the domestic cycles of the top leagues, so will be interesting to see what they come up with in this regard.

Imagine the uproar of “players need a rest” when the Euros is knocked back to 2021, the 20/21 season starts in October and end in June one week before Euro2021 kicks off.

Point to note: Both WBA and Leeds has been exchanging 1st and 2nd place the entire season. If anything both should go up.

Everything has a limit. The negative effects on the economy and on general mental health (isolation is bad for people) outweigh whatever minor lowered risk old and sick people get right now

But herd immunity is typically only viewed as a preventive strategy in vaccination programmes. If we don’t have a vaccine – as we don’t for COVID-19 – achieving herd immunity would require a significant proportion of the population to be infected and recover from COVID-19. So what would this mean for the spread of the disease in the UK?

The percentage of the population that needs to be immune to enable herd immunity depends on how transmissible a disease is. This is measured by the term R0, which is how many new infections each case will generate. For COVID-19, the R0 is estimated to be 3.28, though studies are still ongoing and this number will probably change. This means that for herd immunity, about 70% of the UK population would need to be immune to COVID-19.

Achieving herd immunity would require well over 47 million people to be infected in the UK. Current estimates are that COVID-19 has a 2.3% case-fatality rate and a 19% rate of severe disease. This means that achieving herd immunity to COVID-19 in the UK could result in the deaths of more a million people with a further eight million severe infections requiring critical care.

Sure some people will be very worried about their jobs too.

If you’ve seen the graphic on the BBC, the UK is looking to accept this will hit everyone but want it spread over the year - makes sense.

Which means a big worry is if and when FPL comes back

This is a very good point. Pension funds, stocks, jobs.

This is a worrying time for people of all ages and it is foolish to think people only 60+ are impacted one way or another and the younger people can get on with their lives.

So much talk about mental health lately yet I see no mention of this anywhere. The stock market crash is likely to have an impact on the mental health of many, so will loss of jobs for some as companies will not be able to pay their workers anymore.

Yes, the elderly are at risk of the virus that is true, most have family in this age group.

To think this virus does not impact anyone below a certain age is selfish and frankly idiotic

I was listening to the radio today and a lady rang in to the station absolutely frightened. A single mother with health issues who is sending her kids to school. She is worried her kids could catch the virus and transmit to her. She had no family and no friends. The fear of something happening to her (however low the risk) puts a great strain on them as they ponder who will look after her children if something happens to her.

People are worried, especially after seeing events in Italy. Being told to wash hands and keep the bulldog spirit of Britain is all well and good but the lack of action is making people anxious.

Maybe watch these documentary's and you will know that the job is a lot more sitting on a horse and doing a steering job.

If you ever had the pleasure of being in the company of a thoroughbred race horse then you would know that they love racing and going out on the gallop, that is what they are bred and live for at the end of the day and it would be really cruel to deny them them pleasure.

I have seen a yards and stud operations in my time and i would gladly swap places with the horses i have seen. They have a great life and are treated better than most humans here in Ireland at least.

Here in Ireland we kind have a bit of an affinity with horses that goes back century's,for instance a horse happens to be one of the favorites for Sports Personality of the Year here.

I know absolutely nothing about horses, so I have no opinion either way. Just wondering how you can tell they love racing? Do they have tell tale signs such as dogs wagging their tail or cats purring?

A thoroughbred is a supreme athlete that lives for speed.

If you had one in your stable EF and were not carrying it out for a gallop now and again they would not be long letting you know that they are not happy and the animal would get very agitated.

For anyone who thinks it’s sitting on a horse trying sitting on a thoroughbred. Firstly you would not be left on because you would have a good chance of being killed the balance skill and strength involved is not to be underestimated.

I watched Sky tv today. It seems that both British and Finnish governments are planning to build heard immunity. They are accepting enormous amount of deaths. WHO has different approach and vaccine will come "soon". Therefore letting the virus spread is close to an act I am unwilling to specify. I can write more about this and be contacted.

They still have no cure for HIV. How can they find a cure for COVID? I thought the plan I thought the containment plan, in Ireland at least, closing schools colleges, is to reduce the burden on health services and to drag it out. An explosion in COVID cases would stress the health services beulyond breaking point.

They have no cure for HIV, but they have treatment. Yet, this is "only" coronavirus. It is nothing that is totally unknown or as difficult as HIV was.

To make even a HIV test took many years and finding some kind of treatment decades or something like that.

Vaccine will be created against this virus. Probably very fast. Not buying time before it means imo actions we have seen last time before and during WW2.

China and South Korea have fought against this virus much better than Europe so far. I don't know what to think about that.

No doubt that heard immunity could build up if enough people got infected but that would mean something like 40 million people in the UK would need to be infected.

That said if the WHO mortality rate of 3.4% is to believed (could be higher in western country's because of higher risk factors in the population) then that means around 1.36 million people will be lost in the UK alone.

That is a terrifying thought. 😯

Best suggestion i read it so far :

    Comment from Twitter

"Crown Liverpool Champions. Chelsea, Man U, Wolves & Sheff Utd have a playoff for the 3rd & 4th CL spot (MC banned), unsuccessful teams enter Europa. No PL relegation with WBA & Leeds promoted to the PL, begin next season with 22 teams, 4 go down next season. 2 come up from EFL."

Maybe it should be Leeds & WBA up. Norwich down. And then some sort of losing mini playoffs between Watford, Bournemouth, West Ham and Aston Villa to determine the second one down. Brighton would love it i'm sure.

If that's the best suggestion the rest must be dire. It's riddled with irrationality,

        1. "Crown Liverpool champions". Why? They didn't win the PL yet. To exclude City's (admittedly slight) chance arbitrarily would be plain unfair.
        2. Why don't Leicester play off in this plan? Chelsea are 5 points behind them with 9 games to play and they are 5 ahead of Wolves. So Chelsea are as likely to catch Leicester as Wolves are to catch Chelsea. That makes your playoff idea irrational and arbitrary too.
        3. Expanding the PL to 22 is an insane notion; a winter break and reduction of FAC replays was just introduced in order to ease the number of games and you want to add 4 more? In a season when WC qualifying will be going on and, quite likely, the Euros will need to be squeezed in during the summer (2021) as well? It's a crackpot idea.

There are only 2 rational possibilities if the season can't be completed. One is to freeze the table now and treat it as if that's after 38 games. Doubt Villa would be happy to be relegated when they'd be out of the relegation zone if they win their game in hand, though, Doubt Bournemouth would be happy either. It could only end in court, leading to a disruption of next season as well.

The other is to make this season null and void and begin it again from scratch in August (if the pandemic allows). That, in all honesty, would be the only rational thing the authorities could do.

While it is extremely unlikely it -- nonetheless -- still remains a possibility. You cannot award the title based on probability; Liverpool's 'achievement' would be undermined if they won by such measures.

Your right Liverpool will definitely win it but you can’t award someone the winners prize before they pass the finishing line.

It would be like a marathon runner having a mile lead only for the race to be stopped before he crosses the finishing line. Did he win?
            No.
            Did he deserve the win?
            Yes
            Did he officially win?
No . He hasn’t crossed the winning line even though the race was stopped as he entered the Mall.
Liverpool are SO close to crossing that line. Have they officially won?
            No.
A solution needs to be sorted. Either play it out at a later date or void the season.

Take your Liverpool hat off for just a minute and answer what is fair?

Personally I think it needs to be played out and that’s probably the fairest.

100% agree. Same goes for all Promotions and relegations and champions. All an only be declared once the season is finished, if the season doesn’t finish the only option is cancelling/voiding it.

Agree with all this. The point about the European qualification is well made. Clearly Liverpool would have been Champions however, and I can see that it would be just for them to receive an 'honorary' title award.

Probably as we won 27 out of 29 games and destroying all teams this season so that's why it's not that easy to see us without that title after all these effort ... That's the meaning of "Unfair" imo.

It is unfair to Liverpool (and many others, like Leicester), but in reality it’s the only fair thing for ALL teams.

Everyone suffers the same fate. It’ll be good for some: Norwich, Luton etc... bad for others: Liverpool, Leeds etc..

But it will be a single decision with no bias, or detailed calculations which could favour one over another.

Let’s hope the season can be completed.

The last comment in making the season null and void, does sound like the only option.

But, what about the financial implications for clubs like Leeds, West Brom, Fulham? They have spent millions chasing promotion. So it has a far more reaching implications for the lower leagues- than for them in the PL

          I’m a Wigan fan FYI

Yeah, well this is what anyone that cares about football will be concerned about; not whether Liverpool will be awarded a title they haven't won but how many clubs will go bankrupt and cease to exist. It might be next August/September or even later before some clubs get another penny in revenue. And will the TV Companies be happy to keep paying for a product they aren't getting? Is there any insurance to bridge that gap? I'd be more troubled that than whether one club feels hard done by as a minor side-effect of a global pandemic that is killing people.

The Liverpool fan says it's unfair that Liverpool should get the title snatched away when they are nearly there. Perhaps he should address that complaint to the Covid-19 virus, which has caused the problem. I know some Liverpool fans like to play the victim but if the season can't be completed it won't be down to a man-made decision. The only decision the authorities will get to make is how best to deal with the circumstances that ensue, and that decision will need to be made in the best interests of football as a whole, not the best interests of Liverpool FC.

"Some Liverpool fans like to play the victim"

I assume you are talking about the 30 year long dignified campaign by bereaved families of 96 people looking for justice for their loved ones who died going to a football match.

30 years where the cloud of slurs on innocent people continued to be perpetuated by a cover up by police authorities, certain politicians and media outlets.

If playing the victim means being vindicated by a jury of your peers at an official inquest, with a verdict of unlawful killing, then yeah, some Liverpool fans (the dead one and their families, I assume you mean) play the victim.

              Classy comment Ruthy.

Don’t bring Hillsboro into the debate. You know Ruth didn’t mean that.

All the thread is pointing to whether Liverpool should be awarded the title without getting over the finish line.

You presume wrong. I wasn't specifically referring to Hillsborough, nor will I debate now it unless we discuss Heysel at the same time and with equal concern.

This would probably not be the place for that debate anyway.

Heysel was caused by violence by Liverpool fans. The dead Juve fans were victims. There is no debate on that.

When Liverpool fans are labelled as playing the victims, what other interpretation can be drawn other than Hillsborough. The accusation has been slung around long before the current virus situation arose, so it's not a new thing.

If my presumtion was wrong then I apologise but I'd be interested to hear what you really did mean and how and in what circumstances Liverpool fans play the victim if if you were not referring to Hillsborough.
