The best budget goalkeepers and rotation pairings for FPL restart

Selecting a budget goalkeeper for the return of Fantasy Premier League could prove as challenging now as it did at the beginning of the season.

As we start a series of articles assessing the best FPL options by position and price, this first piece will focus on which cheap goalkeepers could be used as set-and-forget options and who could be put together in a budget rotation pairing. We’ll be assessing these assets for their points potential over the first three Gameweeks of the Premier League’s return.

It must be said that cheap and reliable shot-stoppers have become almost an endangered species in recent years, with many of the best options leaving the budget category behind.

This far into the campaign, it is unavoidable that the best goalkeeping options are now closer to £5.0m than they are to £4.5m. In fact, the list of top 10 scoring goalkeepers after the first 29 Gameweeks contains just three priced below £5.0m (the threshold we’re going with for budget).

These are Nick Pope (£4.9m), Ben Foster (£4.9m) and Mathew Ryan (£4.7m), each on 128, 111 and 102 points respectively.

Many of the other cheaper (likely) starting options all find themselves below 100 points at this of the campaign too:

  • Aaron Ramsdale (£4.5m) – 96 points
  • Tim Krul (£4.6m) – 91 points
  • Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) – 68 points
  • Lukasz Fabianski (£4.9m) – 59 points
  • Tom Heaton (£4.3m) – 59 points
  • Pepe Reina (£4.5m) – 19 points

Meanwhile, those who have slipped into the ultra-budget section of the bargain bin are no longer safe-starters since their club’s number one returned from injury or reasserted themselves in the team:

  • Paulo Gazzaniga (£4.2m)
  • Angus Gunn (£4.2m)
  • Adrian (£4.0m)
  • David Martin (£3.9m)

The teams with the best fixtures in the first three Gameweeks after the Premier League’s return are Arsenal, Wolves, Chelsea, Norwich, Newcastle and Leicester, which also presents another issue.

From those clubs, Tim Krul (£4.6m) is the only goalkeeper who still qualifies as ‘budget’ but Norwich’s defence has been well-documented as one of the worst in the Premier League this season (52 goals conceded, joint-second-worst).

Meanwhile, Willy Caballero (£4.8m) could be the route into Chelsea’s defence for those aforementioned appealing fixtures, although it is hard to argue he is completely nailed on. The former Manchester City man started every match from Gameweeks 25 to 28, but missed out on the 4-0 win over Everton in Gameweek 29 – and it has been some time since Frank Lampard had to pick a starting line-up.

However, despite these setbacks, there is still some value to be found in the goalkeeper department.

POTENTIAL SET-AND-FORGETS

Nick Pope

Burnley team news
  • Price: £4.9m
  • Ownership: 18.8%
  • Next three fixtures: mci | WAT | cry
  • Potential next four fixtures: mci | WAT | cry | SHU

There will be plenty of interest in Pope ahead of the return of Fantasy Premier League.

In the six matches before the coronavirus suspension, Burnley’s goalkeeper played a huge part in his team’s impressive defensive performances.

The Clarets conceded just twice during this period, the best in the Premier League, and were also joint-top in the division for their four clean sheets, level with Manchester United and Wolves.

While Pope’s 19 saves in the last six matches was only the 11th-best in the league, his percentage of stops made compared to shots on target faced was exceptional.

During this period, Burnley allowed 21 accurate efforts, the sixth-fewest in the Premier League, with Pope successfully stopping 19 of these.

That works out at a save ratio of 90.5%, the best during this period.

With that sort of protection, the Burnley defence could be in good shape for their next three matches.

Even if Manchester City have a formidable attack, Pope’s saving abilities could see him rack up a massive score in the first Gameweek back, while Watford, Crystal Palace are both sides that Burnley will fancy a chance of a clean sheet against. Also, if the fixtures do line-up to follow the previous schedule, it could be a home match against Sheffield United after the Palace game.

Aaron Ramsdale

  • Price: £4.5m
  • Ownership: 3.5%
  • Next three fixtures: CRY | wol | NEW
  • Next three fixtures: CRY | wol | NEW | mun

While Bournemouth’s defence is never particularly trust-worthy, Ramsdale could offer some value in the coming weeks.

The Cherries have two nice home fixtures in the first three Gameweeks back, even if they cannot benefit from the backing of their own supporters.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle are the two sides set to visit the Vitality Stadium in that time, both of which are in the bottom three for goals scored this season.

The Magpies are joint-worst with Norwich for their 25 strikes in 2019/20, while the Eagles are only one better on 26.

Meanwhile, Ramsdale has proved himself to be a viable source of save points this season, largely on account of the number of shots Bournemouth have conceded.

Across the whole season, he is third for saves (102), behind only Martin Dubravka (£5.1m) and Bernd Leno (£5.0m) who have registered 116 and 104 respectively.

However, in the last six matches before the coronavirus suspension, Ramsdale topped the league for this statistic, producing 29 saves, four more than second-best Vicente Guaita (£5.1m).

Willy Caballero

  • Price: £4.8m
  • Ownership: 0.3%
  • Next three fixtures: avl | MCI | whu
  • Potential next four fixtures: avl | MCI | whu | WAT

As we mentioned above, Chelsea’s fixtures in the first three matches look mostly positive – and if their fourth match is confirmed to be a home meeting with Watford, they are arguably even more appealing.

The Blues did not necessarily come into the coronavirus suspension in the best defensive form and they have generally been clean sheet underachievers all season.

While they conceded nine goals between Gameweeks 24 and 29 (joint-fifth-worst) and kept just one clean sheet, Chelsea were in the top three for fewest shots conceded in the box, fewest big chances conceded and fewest shots on target allowed.

If they were able to go into the Premier League with a similar ability to keep things tight, then their clean sheet credentials against Aston Villa, West Ham and potentially Watford, would be strong indeed – even if they have to face Manchester City during that run.

The question, of course, is whether Cabellero can secure himself as the number one goalkeeper. He made four starts from a possible five between Gameweeks 25 and 28 and Kepa Arrizabalaga (£5.4m) has arguably been having a poor season. The Spaniard did return to the Chelsea net in Gameweek 29, so there is enough uncertainty about the goalkeeping jersey to perhaps put Fantasy managers off. Unless, of course, Lampard is prepared to provide any kind of update before the next deadline.

Tim Krul

  • Price: £4.6m
  • Ownership: 2.6%
  • Next three fixtures: SOU | EVE | ars | BHA
  • Potential next four fixtures: SOU | EVE | ars | BHA

Krul gets a mention here for a combination of his price, save-making ability and appealing fixtures.

Norwich’s defence has been poor this season but it had made some improvements before the coronavirus suspension.

Conceding 52 times in the first 29 Gameweeks, the final six of those saw the Canaries breached on just seven occasions.

Still second-bottom of the goals conceded column across the whole campaign, their total between Gameweeks 24 and 29 decidedly mid-table. In fact, it was only one more than Liverpool and Manchester City, who both shipped six goals during this period.

While that was nearly three months ago, there will still some cause for optimism at this end of the pitch for Daniel Farke, especially when we consider the relative appeal of their upcoming fixtures.

Meanwhile, Krul’s role is usually always key whenever Norwich manage to keep things tight in a game. His total of 95 saves is fourth-best in the Premier League this season, while no goalkeeper has accrued more bonus points for pass completion in 2019/20. If Norwich do manage to keep clean sheets in the short-term, expect Krul to pick up some additional points.

ALSO CONSIDER

Dean Henderson (£5.3m) gets his inclusion in this article in the ‘Honourable Mentions’ section as he arguably straddles the fence between budget and mid-price.

To those who don’t own him, the Sheffield United shot-stopper falls into the latter category, but for anyone who signed him up early enough, Henderson only takes up somewhere around £4.9m of their budget.

Sheffield United’s first three Gameweeks back are somewhat mixed. After their Double Gameweek, they face a trip to Manchester United before hosting Spurs. Remember also that the visit to Old Trafford will be without Henderson, who is ineligible to face his parent club.

However, in the immediate short-term, a Double Gameweek against Aston Villa and Newcastle, even though both matches are away, is certainly a very appealing prospect for Henderson owners. They could also face Burnley in the fourth Gameweek of the restart if the fixtures pan out the way we expect.

It is a well-documented fact that Sheffield United have defended well this season, conceding only 25 times (second-fewest) and securing 10 clean sheets (second-best).

→ Which goalkeeper has conceded the most league goals this season?

Foster also compares well in that department, recording nine clean sheets this season. In fact, no other Premier League goalkeeper has managed to secure as many of these at home as the Watford man (seven).

It, therefore, might help that the Hornets play at Vicarage Road twice in the next three matches, although without their partisan crowd.

Those games pit them against Leicester and Southampton, either side of a trip to Burnley.

While the Foxes and Saints are not necessarily known for their goal-shy nature, it helps that Foster is joint-third for saves made at home this season (48).

Meanwhile, it is somewhat more difficult to truly consider Ryan against some of the other options mentioned above.

Brighton’s fixtures straight out of the Premier League restart are very tough indeed, as they host Arsenal and Manchester United either side of a trip to Leicester.

Meanwhile, in the six matches before the coronavirus suspension, the Seagulls kept just one clean sheet and conceded nine times. In that period, Ryan had a very poor percentage of 55.6% too, bettered by a total of 19 Premier League goalkeepers.

Finally, Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) starts off with an appealing trip to Norwich up first and after hosting Arsenal travels to Watford.

However, despite some improvements made at the back by Ralph Hasenhüttl around the turn of the year, the Saints’ defence was not in exceptional shape just before the coronavirus suspension.

Between Gameweeks 24 and 29, they conceded the joint-highest number of big chances in the Premier League (20), behind only Aston Villa (25).

ROTATION PAIRINGS

We will finish this article by examining some potential goalkeeper rotation pairings.

To give this section a bit more to sink our teeth into, we will do this over a four Gameweek period, on the assumption that the final match of each quartet will be the one originally scheduled for Gameweek 33.

Burnley/Sheffield United

  • BUR: mci | WAT | cry | SHU
  • SHU: avl + new | mun | TOT | bur

As already mentioned, this is only classed as a budget goalkeeper rotation pairing by those already in possession of Henderson – and it certainly looks effective.

Sheffield United’s two fixtures up-front can cover Pope’s trip to Manchester City, although managers favouring the Burnley man’s shot-stopping abilities could even consider a Double Gameweek Bench Boost.

Henderson’s blank against Manchester United is nicely offset by Burnley’s hosting of Watford and the Clarets’ trip to Palace the following week is also helpful when Sheffield United host Spurs.

Burnley/Chelsea

  • BUR: mci | WAT | cry | SHU
  • CHE: avl | MCI | whu | WAT

Those willing to take the risk on Caballero could find a Burnley/Chelsea rotation useful.

The crunch points are the first two Gameweeks, with Chelsea covering Burnley’s trip to Villa and Pope covering off Caballero meeting his former club.

It would then give managers a nice set of choices for the third and fourth games of this period.

Burnley/Southampton

  • BUR: mci | WAT | cry | SHU
  • SOU: nor | ARS | wat | MCI

There is not much to add on this rotation compared to the Chelsea one.

Southampton don’t particularly form a big part of this, covering Burnley’s Manchester City meeting with Norwich in the first Gameweek, while the final three matches arguably favour the Clarets.

Sheffield United/Bournemouth

  • SHU: avl + new | mun | TOT | bur
  • BOU: CRY | wol | NEW | mun

This is another rotation that has the potential for a strong Bench Boost opportunity in the upcoming Double Gameweek.

As Henderson looks like a good option with his meetings with Villa and Newcastle, combining them with Ramsdale’s hosting of Palace could prove fruitful.

The biggest drawback with this pairing is the second round of games when Henderson is ineligible and Bournemouth travel to a ruthless Wolves outfit.

Ramsdale could cover Sheffield United’s meeting with Spurs the following week though, as the Cherries host Newcastle.

Sheffield United/Watford

  • SHU: avl + new | mun | TOT | bur
  • WAT: LEI | bur | SOU | che

Watford’s Foster arguably does a better job of plugging the gaps in Henderson’s schedule.

When the Sheffield United man is unavailable against the Red Devils, he can offer a meeting with Burnley.

After that, the Hornets host Southampton when the Blades host Spurs.

Do we think it’s worth Doing mcarthy to Reina for the DGW ?

Personally I wouldn’t bring in a Villa defender even if it was a triple gameweek

I agree with Rasping Drive. The other thing is and judging by the Bundesloga, are we expecting that many clean sheets? Quality squads will make an impact too. The smaller and less skilled sides could leak many goals. No way, without chips, would I be spending transfers on low ranked defenders. Target could put forward an argument but I would not want to be stuck with him. Let us who have few DGW's hope to have multiple opening week transfers.

Good points fellas, I’m also holding Alonso so maybe bringing in Laporte or someone like that for him might be a shout considering he’s not guaranteed to start

I have Alonso too and thinking of the same move. It might be worth a punt keeping him though.

Have we any suggestion of when the rest of the fixtures are going to be made?

I presume as well with the way they have made it so the next FA cup round will not create any further dgws that they plan to do this with all FA Cup round week so this could well be the only dgw that occurs?

Don’t know when to expect the rest of the schedule.

But yes, you’re right, the FA cup has been scheduled so as not to create any further blanks/doubles.

Only way we’ll get more DGWs is due to unforeseen circumstances such as fluke weather, or unexploded bombs in the toilets at Old Trafford.

It's depends on your existing team, the FH is a powerful chip in any GW so those of us who have a decent team for DGW39 already may hold onto it, rather than going all in on the DGW.

It appears that it's been the negotiations with the TV companies that held up the first three weeks of games being released, they probably need another video conference with them before the rest of the fixtures are releases, but it's pretty safe bet that the rounds of fixtures will remain in their original order with no more DGW unless we get postponements due to the Coronavirus or other unforeseeable circumstances.

General consensus for those with WC FH BB, to FH in 39?

If FPL throw in a curve ball and give unlimited transfers then BB 39 sounds better right? Would leave FH and WC to sort the riff raff out.

I agree actually. I think there's a chance that it may end early. Already looks like they are only commiting to 3 week blocks of fixtures (unless that's TV related).

Yes. As someone with no WC left that is why I hope there is no unlimited transfers as gives huge advantage to those with WC. They could use unlimited transfers to set up perfect BB for 39 and then WC to team for 40 onwards. But those with no WC can certainly use unlimited transfers but need to keep rest of season in mind so FH better option in which case no value in unlimited transfers.

I'm pretty sure when free hit is activated all the price changes on originally owned players take affect and you retain any value. The changes do take affect on the free hit though - so be careful if it's a player you actually want as part of the free hit team.

To answer your question, I'm pretty sure you don't lose value gained on a player when free hitting. You get your original team back the same as before (along with any price changes that take place that week)

Yeah the FH doesn't affect your original team in any way.

Just think of it as your original team is still running in the background as normal while you're on your FH. Then once your FH is finished your original team becomes visible again.

    Hi all

Any thoughts on this FH team for the DGW?

    Leno
    TAA - Lund - O'Connell - Egan
    Salah - KDB - Cantwell
    Auba - Aguero - Jesus

Norwich one of the few teams with a decent home fixture, hence Cantwell pick. (Could change to Saka).

These aren't proper away games though are they. Just look at the difference in home win percentage pre and post restart in the German league.

My City trio will have KDB, Sterling and one of Aguero/Jesus.

The only reason I don't go Aguero for sure, he was very vocally against restarting the PL and he may be on the wrong mindset, subconsciously avoiding contact etc

Pep has played Kun & Jesus in a 3 5 2 before although I accept its unusual for them to play together. Either way, despite rotation risks, having both guarantees a City forward in both games which is very appealing.

Not sure he would feature that much, he´s been out for a year and also heavily linked to Bayern the last 12 months. Your point still stands as valid, very rare that Pep plays both his strikers at the same time.

I'm in two minds about it tbh, although I can't envisage a better opportunity on the remaining GW's.

A lot will be playing their FH and of those, most will load up on Sheff U defenders and City mids/forwards.

A couple of high-scoring wins for City combined with one or two clean sheets

I think FH is a viable option but I'm thinking of saving and rolling out a team with only Leno and KDB starting for the DGW. I have Saka too but atm he is likely to be my first sub.

First bash at a FH team

    Leno
    Stevens / Egan / O'Con / Targett
    KDB / Sterling / Grealish / Salah
    Kun / Auba

    Martin / Saka / Lacelles / Connolly

How's she look. I may opt for stonger SGW player over Targett.

I've got Salah in there mate. I could basically have him, Mane or TAA. If TAA though then there aren't that many good DGW midfield options so Salah or Mane seems a better move.

I would not feel safe with those defenders and their being 5 subs now. I’d try for Henderson over Leno if you want a nailed Shef defence.

I think Sheff will get one CS over the 2 games, so anything else is a bonus. Lascelles should start so I'd have a bit of cover on the bench. Isn't the Sheff defence all pretty nailed? Yes I'd prefer Henderson over Leno but then there are no other good DGW options for defence really and no particularly good SGW ones, that was my thinking with punting on Leno.

        1. FPL Blow-In
          • 11 Years

Lascelles cover is irrelevant really. The point I’m making is that if they now have 5 subs in order to keep players fresh, they will likely use them. So while those Sheffield defenders are pretty nailed, there is an increased chance of them being hauled before they reach the 60min mark and earn a CS. Whereas that is less likely for a gk.

Surely that point applies to everyone? What makes Blades defenders anything more to be not feel safe about? Have any of them even been subbed off before? They're among the most nailed-on in the entire division, why would Chris Wilder, who doesn't make changes much, use his two extra subs to mess about with his defence? They're usually holding on to something anyway, so less likely to disrupt defence, or need to get back in the game, so make attacking changes.
It's not like they're often cruising at 3-0 and decide to give a centre-back 30 mins rest

I am not saying that it doesn’t apply to everyone or that the blades defenders are any different! I am only saying that Henderson is safer to reach 60mins than those defenders and all your eggs are in one basket. Also that the Sheffield defenders will get some minutes so Lascelles won’t cover them.

Fair point that Henderson is bulletproof for both games, barring injury.
But I doubt any of those defenders will miss out on going 60+ minutes in either game, personally. The fact there are two extra subs is not going to suddenly change Chris Wilder into a rampant substituter

Yeah I hope you are right. I just think Henderson and two defenders is safer than three defenders. I don’t believe the extra subs is going to change him into a rampant substituter but the amount of fixtures in such a short period may force it. Higher risk of fatigue and injuries.

If you'd framed it that way at the start there would be no debate from me - Henderson and two SU defenders over three SU defenders.

That wins for me too in that context but how about Leno and 3 Sheff defenders vs Hendo, 2 Sheff defenders and X. Can’t find a good X so former feels better.

It’s possible they could come off after 60 but as said elsewhere applies to anyone and at most it would likely just be one of them. I get your point with that risk not being there for Henderson and he would be my preference but there are few good DGW (or SGW) defender options to replace the 3 Sheff defenders with so Leno and Sheff defender feels like more points potential than Hendo plus X.

Good to think out the various options. Personally I fill play Alexander-Arnold no matter what (highly likely I will free hit) so don't have to consider three defenders. Might well end up with two Sheffield United defence plus Hendo, mind. Or I might get Luiz in over one of the Sheffield United defenders.

For sure. Early draft for me and will likely change a fair whack in next few weeks.

I started out with TAA but it’s between him, Salah and Mane for me. With fitness issues I feel goals are better route into points than CS at the moment.

I'm thinking through my free hit team slowly but Alex-A and one of Salah and Mane will remain (probably Salah) just because on any given day they can go huge. So that's me down to nine double gameweek players, but I can't justify to myself leaving them out.

I haven't got that far yet, looks like maybe one but certainly not both. Haven't worked out how far the cash goes but I tend to be a midfield-packer. Having decided .keeping Salah/Mane and changing one of them for Sterling, it's not going to leave tons in the bank for strikers.
I'm a fan of both Aubergine and Aguero but also have doubts over both

This is where my team currently is:

    Pope
    Doherty, Maguire, Tanganga
    Salah, Manè, Kdb, Fernandes
    Jiminez, Ings, Jota

McCarthy, Cantwell, Lascelles, Taylor .1 itb

FH looking likely for the first gw back. Then looking at the remaining fixtures the team I have has good fixtures.

Issue is, along with everyone else, we no longer know what their form is like now and the injured players are back.

United are an interesting bet now. Fernandes was the go to before the break with Martial not too far behind. Pogba and Rashford could change that now.

I may wait one or two gws after the FH and then use my WC to get int the form teams and players early.

Too much uncertainty, we have no idea which players are going to come back at full fitness, squads will have a lot more players to select from now that pretty much everyone has recovered from injuries. Have no form to go off which is what I would want to base my FH team around. Also If the fixtures are resuming as they left off then your team should already be set up, plus we left off on a the double game week for city and arsenal and you should already have SHU defence so just seems bizzare to use FH now. Think it must be the excitement of the return of FPL.

See my post above. I agree with you. But your comment about your team should already be set up, players that continued to make transfers each week throughout this period have now changed their teams and lost some of those players.

Given the nature of the rest of the season I don’t think we’ll be able to predict team selection, and form will also be unpredictable.

Is there a reason why FPL didn't just freeze the game weeks and transfers when the season paused? Have those (including myself) who continued to use free transfers until GW37 benefited more than those who didn't? I thought it was a great way to clean up my squad and I still have all my chips except TC.

Two away games for sheff United
I’ve seen a lot of people stack up on their defence for DGW. Yet berate any option for a villa defender who have two home games. If that fixtures goes the other way there’s a huge swing. Villa have to win despite being miserable at the back so I’m being cautious.

McGinn was carrying an injury before his major injury and the hope is that he will return to his early season form and take the pressure off Grealish

McGinn is an absolute terrier in midfield. Great at winning the ball, strong in the tackle and even offers a goal and assist threat. Can easily see him playing for a top 4 club soon. Maybe even replacing the likes of Jordan Henderson or Matic.

I'm a United fan and I really like the look of McGinn and would happily have him. Mind you, same goes for Grealish and you can't buy everyone.
Villa should have stayed up with those two. Possibly it was the McGinn injury that did for them. Not that they're done, mind, they can still survive of course

McGinn would be a Fergie type of signing. Plays his heart out every game and has zero interest in selfies, social media and flashing bling like Pog and Lingard.

Yes, very Fergie. If be very surprised if United weren't monitoring. He fits in to the current philosophy as well - young, hungry, great attitude. And obviously you have to be very good at football too.

I remember reading that United were monitoring him but that their number one target for the same position was Sergej Milinković-Savić who would be a phenomenal signing. Guess McGinn is a great option if they can't get Savic.

Thoughts on my squad? How to use my 2FT and 6.5 ITB?

    Pope
    McGuire / Boly / Lascelles
    KDB / Bruno / Salah / Barnes
    Jota / DCL / Ings

    Button / Sarr / Williams / Kiko

Id probably be looking to lose Ings based on his injury record and inability to play many games in a short period of time so Auba /rashford sounds good..if you are playing catch up then maybe Rashford.

Morning all, and apologies in advance if this is a ridiculous question... I'm planning a FH for the restart like many other folks around here (have all the chips still), but I've now missed my chance to use any 'empty gameweeks' to tweak the underlying team, right? (The system still shows GW 39/May 17, so I'm guessing that window ended then?).

Asking because I'm unclear about what free transfers are available between now and the next games, and especially I'm carrying some deadwood (eg. Ryan, Rico).

Many thanks all, and good luck for the restart!

The expectation is that the new schedule starting from GW39 will open shortly ; and the game format also. The rumour is you’ll retain all your chips you carried over and every player will have two transfers.
      But this is rumour only!
Other ideas of extra wildcard, one transfer only, unlimited transfers were hypothesised but now more unlikely as we close in on the game week beginning.
      We will see

Hazz had mentioned to me that if you transfer in a Player with your FTs and then FH and leave those players in your FH team, that you keep them.
    But it sound absolutely wrong.
I believe that if you have 2FTs, you can only lose them, if you play FH then.
You will also only have 1FT after

I’m lost here. If the GW opens tomorrow and you bring in say maguire and Fernandes looking forward. If you hit the free hit
Lose them but bring in city players arsenal etc instead
The free hit is your move; you’ll go bsck to your game week 38 team the following with one transfer. That’s my feeling , no ?

      1. Dr. Agabuse
        • 11 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

You wont have maguire and Fernandes.
Even if you keep them in your FH team.
Smn suggested to me that you could keep them, if you got fernandes and maguire, played FH then and then also kept Fernandes and Maguire in your FH side.

You wouldnt do that with fernandes and Maguire but i would do that with Alonso to amn cheap, to create funds for my 1FT after the 1.GW...

Is it confirmed that blank game weeks are now null and void
The idea that the FA cup would not feature on any epl weekends ?
If this is the case the chances that this is the only dgw are very high and a free hit for the city assets if any is the go to move. Can anyone envision a twist to the schedule ?

    1. Bennerman

FA Cup games are scheduled in such a way that the teams involved then catch up on their league games in the same FPL gameweek (midweek after playing Cup at weekend) so won't create double gameweeks.
No replays either, by the way, so they won't complicate things either.

Why are people still aware of home and away?
With the fans gone, its not a big difference. Its not that you still play better because you know the grass much better.
At least i never felt that as a footballer.
Maybe pitchsize matters but i think it was really the fans that made the home difference and the psychological advantage, the will power and positivity that they injected, so I guess, we should avoid teams that are only good at home..like Arsenal

It's more of a level playing field for sure but home ground is still a slight advantage. Less travel, more familiar environment etc.

I think the teams that will struggle the most will be the likes of Brighton, Villa, Watford etc, teams that suck on all grounds but get a crowd boost from playing at home.

I don't think the likes of Arsenal will be affected negatively. Their home atmosphere hasn't been anything special since they left Highbury. If anything they might benefit in away games because their mentally fragile players won't have to deal with the home fans.

The city attack Leno is where I am also
Leno save points plus Brighton clean sheets
Or a shock CS versus city (would mean huge saves and bonus) I like Leno.
Could you get grealish in over McGinn somehow

Got BB and FH left, but my bench is rubbish so I don't wanna use BB and I'll have 6 DGW players so I don't really need to use FH either. Seems daft not using either but that's the way I'm leaning. Anyone else saving their chips and not using them in GW39?

      I’m free hitting

If you can hit green arrows using those six players you’ll be laughing.
Maybe work on the bench with the extra transfers now as you should have two and again could work in your favour . Good luck

Before I get the abacus out myself, does anyone know if there are any stats from German league of goals per game after restart compared to rest of season?

And i guess also the number of gks/defenders who would have banked a cs each week (ie played 60 mins+) before and after restart?

Just wondering if there's been any noticeable change and whether that would influence those going sheff utd defensive triple up.

Yer would probably wait for fixtures first. A good time to play a FH is the last day as usually you see teams just all out attack as a final blast. Goals galore usually. It is wether by then you think you will still be competing or not.

I suppose you will not lose too much going by most teams on here so you may have a good point
