Recapping the best Newcastle United players ahead of FPL restart

Newcastle United’s players are assessed as we continue with our series of team-by-team refresher articles ahead of the Fantasy Premier League resumption in June.

Looking firstly at data from the six Gameweeks that took place immediately before the suspension of play in March, we will also venture further back in time where relevant to highlight any season-wide trends.

Steve Bruce’s side are not the most glamorous outfit and goals have been very hard to come by in 2019/20, although only five clubs have registered more clean sheets.

Most Fantasy managers who are in the market for a Newcastle player, then, will be gravitating towards the Magpies’ defensive assets.

With this piece borrowing heavily from the data available in our Members Area, only subscribers of Fantasy Football Scout can read on.

Its the contract thing that worries me. That Berg guy they seem to have high hopes for. Hopefully Lund starts at least one and hope its the easier game

They want him to sign a new contract but he is refusing. They bought this other guy for the long term. A lot think he is better than Lundy as a player apparently but Lundy is a fan favourite

yeah i mean but then SHU could play Lundstram so that he feels wanted and signs a new contract... they need to find a way to fit Lund and Berge in (easier said that done though)

on that basis would you go for Lundstram or O'Connell for 30+ on FH ?

noting my team reverts back to having big John in 31+

Anything possible yes. With 2 games in quick succession my money would be on both starting a game as they are rotatable but i dont know any more than anyone. Lad i know has season ticket and he thinks Berge is decent but i aint seen him play.

If you are chasing then go for lundy imo. Think i probably will end up doing with little to lose. If maintaining a league id play safe as the lundy
1 pointer is a real risk, Baldock and Stephens better though if you can afford .

yes I currently have Henderson and Baldock, so a roll of the dice on Lundstram is tempting...

Similar boat to me, after much thought I'm going to FH this week. Team looks very good for GW31 onwards (I'd be tempted with Vardy -> Rashford for GW32) plus it means you still have your WC available to fix your team up once we've had a good look at which teams/players are responding best to the current situation.

You thought about what week to use BB If you still have it ? I've been seriously considering this approach too I.e FH instead of unlimited transfers due to how nicely my team is set up for +31.

I actually like the sound of Jesus now, both Aguero and Jesus will play, with pretty much an equal chance of scoring, only difference is that Jesus is cheaper and is less-owned...

    1. SADIO SANÉ

I'm kinda thinking that most City attackers will get similar minutes, so choosing the lesser owned ones will mean a bigger rank boost if the coin flip lands on the right side

      1. JelliedSpark968

And in the end, it's a fairly low risk.

Aguero was usually preferred over Jesus in home games so wouldn't be too sure if Jesus minutes over the two will be close to Aguero.

N'Golo Kante played against Reading yesterday in a behind-closed-doors game despite only returning to full contact training earlier this week. The match also saw Loftus-Cheek and Pulisic handed more minutes but Reece James was missing due to injury. #CFC

    1. HamezMace

Because they want to keep there prelockdown team, and preserve TV, whilst maximising the DGW.

    2. JelliedSpark968
      • 4 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

This is most likely the last DGW of the season, meaning it's a good time for free hit. If you're fairly happy with your team before lockdown, then you can afford to bypass the unlimited transfers and just continue with that same team later on. Often people also still have a WC to use. Hopefully that makes sense

They’ve already used the 9 free transfers to adjust their squads for the run-in, and want to go balls deep into a DGW with 11x DGW’ers, without having to clean up the inevitable pile of shite that would normally leave in the following GW

Leaning towards FH30, TC Salah 31 - slow wildcarded & Team is grand - would possibly have looked at Salah, DCL, Martial > Rashford, Son, Richarlison in a perfect world, but think a DGW FH has too much upside not to try a roll of ze dice

1 - I think his main threat is Rashford rather than Pogba, but he should remain an excellent option with his monopoly on set pieces and his shooting abilities

2 - No, and that's coming from someone who has tried to do without him and paid the price

Going Mahrez over Sterling on a BB really does allow for some appealing upgrades:

    A) Sterling, Cantwell, Egan, O'Connell
    B) Mahrez, Ozil, Baldock, Lund

    1. LE CHARO
      • 4 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

And although things could be much different after the break, Mahrez himself is arguably an upgrade to this season's Sterling. But not sure Ozil is the best option to reinvest that money in.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm not convinced but it's exact money, the excitement of another DGW player and I can't see where else to put the money:

        Leno Hendo
        TAA Lascelles Lund/Egan Baldock Targett
        Mahrez KDB Ozil Mcginn Grealish
        Auba Kun Jim

Yeah, not many other options if you're set on getting 12 DGW players. Maybe downgrade McGinn for someone like Saka and get Fernandes for Ozil. Saka's minutes will be limited for sure, but Fernandes is a far better option than Ozil imo, even with only one game.

Cheers. That's an option, but it would also mean a downgrade of Baldock to O'Connoll, so I'm not sure it's worth it, especially as I'm not keen on Saka either. Man U have Spurs too, could be a goal fest, but certainly not an easy game.

But when I go onto my head to head league it looks like it’s continuing?

Click on 'Matches' there are none scheduled. You need to set up a new league apparently if you want to continue.

The article seems to end abruptly after the headline. The best FPL options from Newcastle.. then nothing under that.

    Oh right...

Issue I have with this BB is that your bench is actually Leno, Lascelles, Cantwell and Jota.. so why play it all in a DGW.

You could think of downgrading a premium eg. Auba and upgrading that bench eg. Lascelles into Doherty

Because they all have good fixtures this week and I don’t have to worry about planning for my bench to have good fixtures in the future.

Thank you for your comment 🙂

    Hi guys!

What do you think about this BB team? I plan to Wildcard next GW. I realise I am risking it by not having TAA lol.

    Leno Henderson

    Basham Robertson Bednarek Targett Egan

Sterling De Bruyne Saka Barnes Grealish

    Aguero Aubameyang DCL

    0.2 itb

    thanks guys 🙂

I guess you’ve already made your bed with TAA. I didn’t want to lose the value from him and he’s still a great option this week anyway.

Not sure about DCL vs Liverpool or Saka. Looks good otherwise

        yeah fair enough.

well i actually already have TAA so could keep him... i have a different squad but this squad is the one i would want after using all the unlimited transfers if that makes sense lol
