Fantasy Allsvenskan GW9 – Pre-match Preamble

A midweek round of fixtures that finally delivered some high scores for a large part of the community, especially those who elected to play the “Park the bus”-chip. Much like in Gameweek 6 (which would have been a disaster by the way), I considered pulling the trigger on that particular chip as well but eventually held off, as Djurgården’s Twitter confirmed just barely ahead of the deadline that Jonathan Augustinsson was indeed benched for Elliot Käck. Like our very own Bob Sacamano, that made me pull back from the idea and now I’m considering putting it to use in Gameweek 10 instead, assuming Djurgården releases the lineup ahead of the deadline yet again. Kudos to Cpt Crunch Scott Talent who got a huge score this week with a Par – 127!

We saw Sead Hakšabanović continue to deliver on a level far beyond this league, a true marquee signing by Norrköping, who looks to be a huge factor in their title challenge. Hammarby initially struggled (again) away to Kalmar but Paulinho and co upped their game quite a bit, showing encouraging signs ahead of a pretty interesting schedule. Häcken demolished an Elfsborg side who early on lost goalkeeper Tim Rönning to a strong migraine, odds are a 6-0 loss did little to ease his headache.

Malmö with the ever-present Anders Christiansen got another victory and they are now one of six clubs at 13 points, trailing league leaders Norrköping by 7 points. Much like in the fantasy game, it’s a tight playing field and a few good results can really put you in a great position going forward.

We are now in entering the third gameweek in the space of a week, and it’s not going to slow down anytime soon. Active management will most likely be rewarded, as we are looking at 8 Gameweeks in the space of just 29 days. Unfortunately, that also means that rotation is likely to continue being a factor, and the bench players need to be ready to jump into action if we’re faced with surprise injuries or rests. To deal with this, I have finally taken the time to throw out the failed wildcard inclusion Tim Prica, who has featured for a measly 67 minutes in 5 Gameweeks – luckily he’s never been called upon during this time in my side. Instead, I welcome Mamudo Moro, and I’m hoping he can bring a lot of Moro-points to my squad… I’m not even sorry for that one!

This coming gameweek we have an interesting captaincy debate as red hot Hakšabanović travel to Sirius while Christiansen entertains a horribly out of form Kalmar at home (assuming he starts). We also have the Hammarby midfielders Tankovic and Kačaniklić who both looked better in Gameweek 8, though their accuracy still needs to improve if they are to deliver anything like last season. My heart says captain Tankovic but my head says Hakšabanović, we’ll see which part wins out in the end.

As always, if you want to chat about fantasy football either comment here below – or hit me up @FF_Meltens on Twitter!

Great read! I took a hit for getting Kahl and AC in for Wernersson and Thern. AC captain this week is very inviteable!

Thanks! 🙂 Love the moves, think I’ll stick with Hakšabanović cap even with the fixture.

Otienno still has a long way to go before playing right?

    Great info as always Meltens.

I need to move out Söderlund (injured). I got Seljmani and P.Abraham. Looking at Kalle Holmberg. Any other suggestions ?

      Cheers!
Is he injured though? Haven’t seen anything about that. Think he just needed a breather and the game was already won, could be wrong though.

Otherwise yes Holmberg would be one, Ludwigson another. Really cheap could be Moro. Think Söderlund will continue to bring points though, he’s the one I’d like the most that I just can’t seem to fit in!

Söderlund got a small knock when he scored his goal against Elfsborg. He was subbed immedietly, but I think it was more of a precaution as the game was already won. I wouldn't guarantee a start against Östersund, but I'd be suprised if he was absent for a longer period of time.

I am stuck as to what to do. Is it possible to ask the great minds here at FFS for feedback? 🙂 I have two free transfers and 0.6 in the bank. All chips saved (Wildcard 1 used). I am possibly looking at GW 10 PTB. For this week, I sense I need a Malmo defender, but am I missing something more important? 🙂

    Current team set up:

    Ronning
    Witry, Lauritsen, Castegren, Tihi,
Haksabanovic (C), AC (VC), Kacaniklic, Tankovic,
    Selmani, Ludwigsson,

    Bench: Abkraham, Norlin, Björnstrom, Noring

    Current overall rank: 63

I would just downgrade one of Kaca or Tank in preparation for next week. Then you have 2ft's to get another Djurgården defender(or whatevever you want) for PTB after doing the early team sheet dance a la Bob.
No real need for Malmö defender in gw10 though.

Cheers! Who to bring in? Irandust is perhaps an obvious option, but he is inconsistent.

My plan was Irandust or Besara(got 2 great foxtures), leant towards Besara.
But with my success last week the need to be different went out the window. Bought Irandust due to his high ownership and Häcken scoring 6 while Örebro just don't score

Irandust makes sense due to ownership. Örebro play too defensively, which sadly rules out Besara.

I might be a fool who stands on a sinking ship telling others it’s fine and not to jump overboard but... I still rate Tank and Kaca. I’d at least want to give them Göteborg at home this GW before doing anything.

Yeah, Tankovic still has decent stats, it is just that he does not deliver on them, and I am bit wary of the tripple up. Thanks, Meltens!

Just saw Dani Sebs xG and xA stats on twitter, and Tankovic wasn't even top 20 among the midfielders (neighter were AC or Irandust). Also got 3 bonus points all season, so I wouldn't expect too much from him.

Team look nice, and I think you can prepare for a PTB in GW10. The question is which players you'll want then? I'm going for Lauritsen, Castegren, Witry, Augustinsson/Käck and Ahmedhodzic. I still rate the Malmö defence highly, especially at home, and Ahmedhodzic is a great fantasy player. I figure that even if they concede against Hammarby it's likely to be just a single goal, which will hopefully give Ahmedhodzic about 4p with defensice bonus.

If going for a Malmö defender you could do Björnström to Ahmedhodzic and Tankovic to a midfielder like Besara or Irandust, or cheaper depending on who you'll want as a 5th defender in GW10 instead of Tihi.

From what I've seen of Hammarby this season, they look absolutely awful, and a decent performance against a poor Kalmar is not enough to convince me. Göteborg are good and have already beaten Hammarby once in Stockholm this season, and that game is followed by Malmö away. I've already shipped Bojanic and Kacaniklic, and today I'm shipping Tankovic.

It is however hard to find better replacements. Örebro are terrible, but according to ÖSK_Mackan Besara is a confirmed starter. They have decent fixtures, so I'm going for Besara for a few weeks now. He's a great player, have been quality in fantasy in the past, and will likely take penalties now that Jake Larsson missed his chance. Good for bonus, at least, and decent stats in expected goals and assists.

Irandust is a player I could write a novel about. Have owned him all season, have watched him every game and have wanted to ship him since the start. Probably the best "almost great" player in Allsvenskan. Always makes the second assist, always creates the chance without getting the credit in form of fantasy points. Extremly frustrating!

Thank you Bob for the thorough reply - it is much appreciated. My current thinking ahead of deadline is Tankovic to Irandust and Tihi to Ahmedhodzic and prepare for GW 10. I do not want to go without Malmo defender against an off-form Kalmar and Ahmedhodzic has impresssed, plus I do not want to play an attacker against a defender. Let's see if I go ahead with this strategy.

Thank you, and good luck everyone!

Saw line up: therefore Tihi benched, Ahmedhodzic transferred in. So is Irandust for Tankovic. Not getting Besara will no doubt punish me, but it was a move more to protect against ownership.

Sound good. Think Tihi is a better choice than Björnström this week, but I fully understand that you don't wanna play a defender against an attacker. And both have to go anyway if you're playing PTB in GW10. Good luck!

On AC as Captain this week but Haksa the other obvious option.

Just saw this actually, Abraham back in the squad: https://fotbolldirekt.se/2020/07/19/haugaard-och-abraham-tillbaka-for-aik-och-16-arig-talang-med-igen

We should get their lineup pre-deadline from their Twitter as well.

I'm wildcarding ahead of probable PTB next week. Something like this atm with 0.6m itb:

      Bratveit/Johansson
      Witry Berg Lauritsen Castegren Bjornstrom
      Haksa AC Kaca Irandust Amin
      Abraham Selmani Moro

            Thanks Meltens!

Am I the only one who thinks the Tranberg 6p was unjusyfied? They made 4 substitutions just before the hour mark, and just because Tranbergs number wasn't the first to be held up, he left the pitch seconds after the hour mark and not before. If making multiple substitutions, I think the players game time should be counted from when the game is stopped for the substitutions rather than when the player actually leave the pitch. A guy in my ML played PTB with Tranberg and now got 12p instead of 2. On the other hand, he left a defender on the bench...

Not at all, very interesting numbers! 🙂 Confirms my faith in Moro though it also might make me have to consider Witry again, if I can find the cash...

AC and Tank do tend to shoot a lot from distance so I get that their xG might be low but both have the quality to still score a lot regardless (I think).

Moro and Bergström both surprised me, unfortunately they'll take away playing time from each other. Yeah, Witry is definitely worth to sign because of his numbers and the fact that Djurgarden seems they finding form.

Yep, that's why AC (1.25 xG, 0.79 xA) and Tanko (1.90 xG, 0.93 xA) don't have great numbers. AC's conversion rate is pretty much unsustainable though, but the sample size is quite small yet.

As a stats guy myself, this is the exact sort of thread I love to see! Makes me feel lucky as an Irandust owner but also looks promising as a Soderlund owner for example. Ofc Moro has exploded into the scene since I sold too! (Got rid for Bergstrom only for him to be benched and Moro to bang a brace lol)

Leaning to Haksabanovic captain too now. He's not let me down yet this season.

            Great read once again.

Can I ask for advice if anyone has got the time?

With my 1 FT I’m thinking of selling Okumo. 6.5 to spend.

Atm I’m leaning towards getting Anel and have money over to upgrade Toivo to Witry later.

Don’t have any MFF or DIF defensive cover right now

Darn it! Have completely missed this post, I kept updating the old one instead. No wonder there were very little action going in there 😉

Defenitly going for PTB in GW10. Will sub Tankovic for Besara as a 2-4 weeks punt, in order to afford Witry in GW10. Will then have 2ft in GW10, one for Witry and one for a potential Augustinsson to Käck/Berg swap if needed.

Captain is Haksabanovic, no doubt about it. Another 11p haul last week, so why try fix if it's not broken?

Ah, after my 88p last week things are finally back to normal! 13p from 7 players including captain and 18p stuck on 2 bench players. Have owned Vecchia for all his 45 minute cameos, but benched him today because he was playing against my doubble Norrköping defence.

Every decision made now has been to prepare for PTB in GW10. A defence that will build around two Norrköping defenders who just conceded 4 goals against Sirius, and one of them being substituted. Plans also included selling Björnström for Witry on wednesday, might have to reconcider that move...

I'm on 50 and there is nobody left, and I was around 200th in the round before the own goal. Fortunately, in the last 2 rounds, I climbed up from ~8000 to ~1000. I'm praying for that Hammarby blank now...

Ouch! A little lucky with the disallowed goal in the first half, but by the time of the goal Elfsborg had absolutely no threat what so ever.

It cost me a doubble clean sheet. Still ended up with 40p with only Besara to go. Don't expect much from him, but it would be so sweet with a return there, being owned by less than 3%. More important for me though is another blank from Hammarby (no offence) 😉

Haha yeah agreed about the disallowed goal in the first half. Seems I’m at odds with plenty of heavy hitters in the fantasy community regarding Hammarby and their prospects, I still have faith in them except Bojanic who has been hitting the kebabs and pizzas again...

Just the one CS for me. Also quite lucky with Bjornstrom 1st sub to replace Soderlund no show. Puts me to 47 and Kacaniklic + Widgren left.

Currently sat at 437ovr rank which feels like severe nosebleed territory in my 1st season, especially considering I've not used any chips yet.

                That went well...

Seriously reconsidering using PRB chip in GW 15 instead of GW 10 given today's results. Cannot get rid of Bjornstrom when he plays like this... Sirius truly impressive, even though they had some luck with referee decisions, IMO.

I don't think you should read too much into this. Basing decisions on a single performance is usually a bad idea, speaking from my own experience. I benched Rönning today because Elfsborg conceded 6 goals against Häcken and were missing half theire back four - they kept a clean sheet. I benched Vecchia and Björnström after Sirius awful performance against AIK, forgetting that they had 7 great performances before that game...

I still think GW10 is a good option for PTB, and it's my intention to do so if I can get the line-ups confirmed. GW15 looks good too, but I still wanna build my PTB defence around Norrköping and they face Hammarby that week. I also want to include as many safe starters, and from no more than 3 different clubs. I still think I got some good answers today.

Djurgårdens defence looked solid IMO, and Witry was excellent. Augustinsson didn't impress at all, but if he's confirmed to start on wednesday I'll keep him and hope for at least a clean sheet.

Norrköping obviously didn't impress defensivly, but they are usually solid and will be looking to bounce back against Varberg, who have only scored 1 goal from open play in the last 5 games. Lauritsen is a major attacking threat, and hopefully Castegren will start as well dispite being subbed of today.

The major dilemma is the 5th spot. I was all set on Ahmedhodzic, who had a poor game but collected his usual 2 defensive bonus points. Björnström were superb though, and is also a good option against Kalmar. Poor for bonus points but great going forward. I'd probably want Ahmedhodzic long term, but Sirius fixtures are also turning soon. I'll have to think about that until wednesday, and a lot will depend on how Hammarby perform tomorrow. If they can actually put out a good attacking performance, I might go for Björnström for PTB.

You are correct. There is no real need to overthink the outcome. I too benched Ronning and started Noring, in the expectation that Falkenberg would go for a win against another relegation battle rival. Naturally, Falkenberg lost the plot in spite of being 2-0 up. I was surprised though how toothless Djurgården were in attack. With Elfsborg's defence depleted, I thought they would go for it. In that sense, the Ronning benching made sense - before the kick off at least.

Castegren coulda-shoulda have scored/have been awarded a penalty. True, he could be rotated. against Varberg. I do agree that they will be looking to bounce back. Varberg are no pushovers though.

Sirius very good though, and Bjornstrom assist was well taken. They have a good run of games GW13-16.

Irandust managed one assist. I suppose I will take, but the merit of it will depend in relation to Hammarby's (read Tankovic's) performance tomorrow.

                    Cheers!

I have exactly the same situation as you after WCing this week. I cooled off a little on the PTB chip in GW10 but that's mainly because I am afraid of Östersunds. I still think I'll do it though.

I have Witry - Lauritsen - Castegren - Ahmedhodzic - Björnström at the moment with an eye on Berg, Käck, or Augustinsson. The question is to whether take out Ahmedhodzic or Björnström. Ahmedhodzic is my long term favorite pick due to his bonuses, but I have some value on Björnström too and Kalmar are not very good offensively with Fröling out (even when he was playing). Björnström has also great fixtures bar GW11 until GW17. This is going to be a tough decision, please keep us in the loop with your thoughts!

I can keep sharing my thoughts, but I don't think you will get any wiser from it 😉

My decision is changing by the hour and will probably do so until the deadline. Also got some value tied up in Björnström, but in the end it's all about who'll score the most points in GW10. Money is usually not a big issue in Allsvenskan fantasy, and regardless of who I ship, I can afford to bring him back the week after if needed. As it feels now, I want them both long term.

Sirius have been solid away, only conceding 2 goals in 4 away games. Kalmar have only scored 1 goal from open play in the last 6 games, and that was an own goal. The form is awful, and they might miss attacking threat Fröling and captain Viktor Elm. Björnström is great going forward but poor on bonus, so a conceded goal there might mean only 2p unless he can get some attacking return.

Malmö still looks pretty solid, and tend to tighten up in the big games. Ahmedhodzic seems almost guaranteed 1-2 bonus points which is very appealing. Hammarby obviously got some skilful attacking players but they just so bad right now,

Based on this, the best idea almost seems to be to keep them both and only go for Witry from Djurgården. That would however require more teams to keep a clean sheet, and Östersunds attack doesn't scare me at all.

Still wavering whether or not to use the PTB chip. Apart from Kacaniklic (which is a bit surreal) the team is in good shape, and I could focus on defender transfer. My gut feeling is to bring in Berg/Käck/Augustinson for one of Ahmedhodzic or Bjornstrom, perhaps Ahmedhodzic. However, after Hammarby's recent (lack) of displays a Malmö cs cannot be ruled out.

What concerns me is talk (again) of rotation at IFK Norrköping, but I am not sure how substantial that is. As it is, here is the current defender line-up:

                        Witry, Lauritsen, Castegren, Ahmedhodzic. Bjornstrom

It's the same for me. Got two decent weeks behind me and green arrows, so from that point of view it's not as urgent to use PTB to turn the season around. For me though, this still seems like the best week to use it, for many different reasons. Fixtures are good and I already got most players I want. You could always go for a GW like 14 or 15, but you never know how things will look by then. Do you need to make excessive plans in order to get your defence right? Will you have use for those defenders after that GW? Will all the players be fit by then? Have they been sold? I know how things are now, but not in the future.

Rotation is an issue, but in a season like this, I think that will be the case regardless of when you use your PTB chip. It's always hard to know how the managers will think. Norrköping lost 4-2 against Sirius, is that a sign that they need to start rotate more, or that they need to field theire best XI against Varberg to bounce back? I heard people talking about Norrköping rotation before the Sirius game, but what the manager actually said was that they needed to "involve more players". That could mean involving more players during the game, not necessarily changing the startin XI. My feeling is also that defenders tend to be rotated less than attacking players. Malmö still have to play a midfielder as CD, Björnström, Witry and Lauritsen are all key players without any competition in the squad so I got no worries there. The only minor doubt for me would be Castegren, as Norrköping could play Gerson to the right and Binaku/Telo to the left, but on the other hand Castegren was subbed early against Sirius and should be more rested than the others.

Good points. In particular, having played the chip also makes it perhaps easier to focus on other issues then when best to play. The drawback is perhaps (at this moment in time) uncertainty of double game weeks.

Yes, Castegren is perhaps the weakest link in terms of being nailed on. However, as you mention, being subbed off early makes him less in need of having some rest.

My only worry of course is if Varberg could sneak a cheap goal.

Another thing we also have to consider is how many points our regular captain would get when using the PTB chip. If Haksabanovic hauls (15 pts) this week it could significantly decrease the value of our PTB, but it's a risk we have to accept. I think I will still go for it.

That's true, but that will most likely be the case regardless of when you play the chip. Most people would wanna play PTB when teams like Malmö and Norrköping have an easy fixture, and that obviously means missing out on captaincy on players like AC and Haksabanovic.

The theory I had last week when I was set to play PTB was that during this busy time, teams might settle with just grinding out a result. I was right for about 70 minutes, then Haksabanovic scored and ended up 11p, but still a pretty narrow win for Norrköping. I think it could help that both Norrköping and Djurgården lost this weekend, hopefully they will feel a need to field a strong XI and just grab 3p.

Hopefully, after conceding 4 against Sirius, Norrköping will feel a need to tighten up in defence against Varberg. Varberg have only scored one goal from open play in the last 5 games, and have rotated heavily in theire previous two away games against big teams (Malmö and Hammarby).

About the potential doubble game weeks, I've mentioned this in an earlier post. This season is special and there's just no room for postponed games to be played, since every single weekend and midweek is scheduled with games from Allsvenskan, CL/EL and international games. IF Allsvenskan for example allow Djurgården to postpone a game ahead of theire CL qualifyer, that postponed game can only be played if Djurgården fail to qualify for the group stage. It's not likely that they will qualify, but Allsvenskan can't just assume that they wont, and allow them to postpone games. The qualifyers will also be single-leg this season, so there will be half as many games. I'm not guaranteeing there wont be any DGW, I just can't logicly see how it would be possible.

The sort of season where you can impulsively sell last season's top fantasy player for a 33-year-old budget midfielder you'd never heard of before this year from a promoted team and it works out fine. Is there even a template?

                    Thanks for the news!

Makes no difference what so ever for my PTB plans though, except that Berg wont be an option of course. He'll likely be replaced by Ulvestad, who's a top class player, or Augustinsson who's also a quality player and who played almost like a CB against Elfsborg. Djurgården missing 1/4 of theire defence doesn't make Östersund a less dreadful team. They're still a bottom side with a poor attacking record.

Remember that Elfsborg had conceded 6 goals against Häcken and were missing half theire backline against Djurgården, yet left the game with a clean sheet.

Hmm considering using another chip this week, 2 Captains.
Would C Haksa and Lauritsen and hoping we rebound.
Of course 3 out of Norrköpings 4 last half' s have been pretty awful so maybe gw12 is a better option(as we will have had a longer rest ahead of that one).
Will see tomorrow, hoping to be able to get some news to help out my decision.

Could work out, but I'd still save it though. I'm also looking at using it on Haksabanovic and Lauritsen, but with this busy schedule, I'm not convinced that Norrköping will be able to fire on all cylinders at this time. GW12 could be better after a full weeks rest, or later in the season. If going for two players from the same team you only need that specific team to have a good fixture, which makes it a lot easier. GW28 against Falkenberg looks like the absolute best fixture on paper, but it's risky to wait that long. Who knows how things will be by then? Is Lauritsen still at the club? Will Norrköping be chasing the title, settling for a low score win?

Yeah gw28 are as you say a great option.
So is gw30. Problem is the unknown, the opposing team might be in a relegation battle and in desperate need of a point. If I wait then gw30 is the more likely option in my mind.
                      Gonna be a late decision.

Also contemplating ousting Berg for a while for Björnström.
That would be in line with me getting Ludwigsson next week as he seems to be the only Hammarby option direct enough to be worth a (3 week)punt

Sod it, done Berg to Björnström.
                        Sylisufaj to Ludwigsson next week.

I think I like two captains in GW30, if nothing else since most will cap Haksabanovic vs Helsingborg at home. Just having another cap to complement him with seems like a nice little differential in itself.

                  Ah well, locked and loaded.

                  Bratveit
                  Witry, Björnström, Lauritsen, Ahmedhodzic
                  Irandust, Bergmann, Haksa(C), AC, Larsson
                  Abraham

                  Sylisufaj, Selmani, Tihi

Still might go for 2 C's but more likely gw12

A little advice please? not really sure what to do here:

                  2fts, 0.9itb

                  Hagg*, Andersson
                  Bjornstrom, Witry, Ahmedhodzic, Lauritsen, Widgren*
                  Haksabanovic, Christiansen, Kacaniklic*, Irandust, Jansson*
                  Soderlund*, Abraham, Prica*

I've starred the players I'm unsure on.

Obviously Soderlund has to go. But I'm wondering who else. Do I upgrade Jansson > sugita, do I need to sell Widgren? Do I need to sell Kacaniklic?

It is tricky. Soderlund's injury seems like a minor one, but the fixtures to come are tricky. You could bench Widgren - the next three fixtures are very kind.

Against perhaps better judgment, I have also kept Kacaniklic and suffered the price drops, but the next three are good - but Hammarby have been dire, so I just might pull the plug. I think Sugita is a good target - but it all depends if his loan deal is extended or not. The deal expires on Thursday.

Prica is in the freeze box, so I would look to move him on to a nailed on forward. Apart Nyman, there are few good options (Sargon Abraham has a good fixture this GW, but he is wasteful, and fans want a better striker).

So I do not know really, possibly: Kaca-> Sugita and Prica/Söderlund-> Nyman?

It's difficult, because there are a few players that must go because they don't play, but they are cheap, and then there are others who probably should go because they don't perform, but at least they still play.

What strikes me most is that in a season like this, you MUST have 3 Norrköping players IMO. They are the best team by some distance, and both the premium options and bargains looks great. I'd have at least 5-6 Norrköping players if I were allowed to.

Söderlunds injury doesn't seem serious and Widgren and Kacaniklic still got a good run of games coming up, so you should proabably priorotize getting rid of Jansson and Prica. Jansson to Bergman Johannesson could be a good move, or Widgren to Castegren if you want another Norrköping defender. Then I'd probably save the other transfer and wait for more information about the injuried players. If they are our for a longer period, use both 2ft next week to upgrade Prica and downgrade Widgren (if he's out).

Really struggling with what I should do with this team. I got 2 FTs, and 0.9 itb. Time to look at options for Tankovic, or should I just do some boring bench transfers?

                  Bråtveit
                  Witry - Ahmedhodzic - Lauritsen
                  Löfquist - Tankovic - Christiansen - Haksabanovic (C)
                  Abraham - Selmani - Nyman
                  (Nilsson - Widgren - Jansson - J V Persson)

Tricky, but maybe use one FT to upgrade JVP to Väsinen of Elfsborg? Or you could use two FT to get Bjornstrom as well for Widgren? Widgren has three good fixtures after Malmö.

I agree, JVP to Väisinen looks like a great move. Save the other transfer and wait for more info about Widgren. Team looks very good overall.

Thank you both! Was all set on doing JVP to Väisinen, but was interrupted just before the deadline, so I missed it! Oh well, will have two FTs next GW to do the move then…
