Captain Poll

Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 3? Vote now

There’s still one more fixture of Gameweek 2 to come but our captain poll has launched for Gameweek 3 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

You can cast your vote via the embedded poll below or on the widget of our home page.

Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) was the runaway winner in the Gameweek 1 and 2 polls but the Egyptian surely won’t have it all his own way this week, with the division’s meanest defence of the last seven months in town.

Chelsea have carried on where they left off in 2020/21, recording back-to-back clean sheets in their two matches of the current campaign so far.

Salah wasn’t allowed a single shot in the box when the two sides last met at Anfield in March.

And what of the Blues’ own assets? Liverpool’s high defensive line will be put to a severe test from the new Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m)-led Chelsea attack that racked up five big chances at Arsenal.

Manchester United’s insipid display at Southampton may slightly temper interest in their players, while Wolverhampton Wanderers haven’t quite been the defensive horror show many of us were expecting with their new attack-minded boss in change.

Still, Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) will surely be among the front-runners given his stratospheric ownership and the Liverpool v Chelsea face-off on Merseyside.

Could it be a week for a captaincy differential, perhaps? West Ham United and Leicester City, who meet in east London on Monday night, enjoy favourable fixtures against Crystal Palace and Norwich City respectively.

As too do Tottenham Hotspur, who face Watford, although Son Heung-min‘s (£10.0m) fitness situation is obviously one to monitor based on Nuno Espirito Santo’s ambiguous post-Gameweek 2 comments.

And then there’s Manchester City, fresh from a 5-0 thrashing of Norwich City and set to face a beleagured Arsenal side likely to be without Ben White (£4.5m).

Our captain poll will be followed by Tom and Joe’s Tuesday video which discusses the runners and riders for armband duties in more detail, while Captain Sensible will be published on Friday.

A pretty open week for captaincy. Wolves were good vs Spurs although weak to counters.

Ings vs Brentford ofc and Antonio vs CPL also looks good. Some dark horse picks too like City at home vs Arsenal. Mahrez/Grealish.

Yeah, plenty of choice - a good thing after the samey first two Gameweeks. City v a White-less Arsenal (not that he's the cure-all for their problems anyway) looks just about the pick of the bunch to me.

In terms of fixture, possibly. But can you pick me a City starter who is going to exploit it? I can't.

Yep. I would love to own a starting city asset but i'm selling Mahrez as things stand. if I owned Grealish, I'd give armband on him, some consideration

Haha sorry, I suppose it doesn't matter. Although the voting made today may be unrepresentative and distort the final poll result if no one considers West ham or Leicester assets and then tonights game is a 3-3 or similar.

Its a moot point anyway if Son is the poll leader and then he's ruled out injured by Nuno on friday 😉

That's what I was thinking, cashing in on Tsimi get the 0.1 profit for something like Ings > DCL GW4

Just make sure it fits with a wider strategy. No sense catching that 0.1 if it means you miss out on a transfer that brings in a haul, or you have to take a hit next week because of that 0.1m

I could grab that 0.1 by doing Tsimi to Livra but I've got bigger fish to fry. By the time I move Tsimi on, he's sure to drop back 0.1 after Chelsea, but I'd rather lose out and stick to my script.

Not sure what I'll do. Son makes most sense but fitness worry, and as well sounds like Spurs were penned in for a lot of the game yesterday so I'm not so sure how clear that is. Tempted by Benrahma v Palace, might even stick it on Lukaku being his first game at home (and normally a feisty one between them and Liverpool).

Help appreciated chaps, 1 FT, 1.5 ITB.

    Sanchez
    TAA, Shaw, Livramento
    Salah, Fernandes, Greenwood, Benrahma
    Ings, Antonio, Toney

    (Foster, Brownhill, Tsimikas*, White*)

Defence clearly needs sorting, but also lacking City/Chelsea/Spurs coverage. Consider a WC (with Son, Lukaku, Grealish and do without Salah for CHE and perhaps 1-2 missed GWs) or just lose Tsimikas/White? (Tanganga?)

    Cheers

You definitely dont need a wildcard. Livra has New this week so your defence should be ok for this week.

I would save and have 2FT for next week.

Cheers - I think I can scrape through this week with a bit of luck. Just got a bit carried away looking at a WC draft with current values 🙂

I wonder if Tsimikas -> Tanganga makes sense this week regardless - can't see Tsimikas playing and then at worst I have a defender on the bench (even Brownhill may not play).

        Cheers

Sounds like Williams might have his move signed off on before noon. If he plays the cup game it'll be a decent chance to see him in action. Of course I already used my FT to both avoid a drop and catch a price rise... but one of these GWs I'll roll that FT

I felt this way and was going to hold, but honestly I don't think Norwich or Burnley will be good games for Arsenal. They can't deal with teams coming at them right now, Norwich will attack in numbers and Burnley will give them a physical game. I don't think any players they get back will change that so soon.
