Scout Notes

Scout Notes – FA Cup – Sunday

There’s one alarm but no surprises as another two Premier League teams navigate themselves into the last eight of the FA Cup – and out of Gameweek 28.

And yesterday evening’s quarter-final draw gives us a first indication of who might be facing yet further postponements, this time involving Gameweek 34.

Fulham 0 Tottenham Hotspur 3

A Harry Kane hat-trick secured Spurs only their third win in 17 away matches as Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to field a strong side paid dividends at Fulham.

Having scored just once in his last five matches in all competitions, Kane’s treble was a welcome return to form for his 19.0% owners, although he and team-mates Dele Alli (who assisted Kane’s third) and Christian Eriksen (who teed up Kane’s first two goals) all sit in the top ten for transfers-out this week.

And the confirmation that Spurs will now miss a Gameweek 28 trip to Crystal Palace is unlikely to stem that particular tide.

The trio all played at Craven Cottage. The club’s most popular Fantasy Premier League asset, Kyle Walker (36.4%), did not, although the defence was boosted by the return from injury of Jan Vertonghen as coach Mauricio Pochettino continued with a flat back four in the ongoing absence of Danny Rose.

The consistent sales of Spurs assets seem to reflect concerns over their recent poor form as much as anything – they have an attractive schedule all the way through to the end of April, even with the forthcoming Palace blank factored in.

But with advancement in the Europa League still a strong possibility, Pochettino’s already stretched squad will be sorely tested by potential fixture pile-ups as the season reaches its climax.

Spurs have been handed a home tie with Millwall for the quarter-finals. They would be expected to win that, meaning that their Gameweek 34 trip to Leicester City would have to be rescheduled to make way for a possible semi-final, thus adding to the late-season demands on the squad.

It’s likely that the Leicester fixture will remain in Gameweek 34, shifting to the free midweek slot, however, with Spurs Gameweek 28 postponed fixture with Crystal Palace perhaps more likely to be assigned to Gameweek 37.

Spurs XI: Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Winks (Dembele 79), Wanyama, Son, Alli (Onomah 86), Eriksen, Kane (Sissoko 75).
Subs not used: Janssen, Wimmer, Pau Lopez, Carter-Vickers.

Blackburn 1 Manchester United 2

A battling Blackburn took the lead and consistently troubled a strong Manchester United outfit, who finally saw off their hosts through goals from Marcus Rashford and substitute Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba supplying the assists.

The 39.3% of Fantasy managers who still own Ibrahimovic must have been particularly delighted to see their man scoring four goals in the last two (non-FPL) matches – he’s taken the past eight fixtures to manage that haul in the league.

Small wonder then that the Swede is the second-most sold player this week, with more than 100,000 managers releasing him ahead of United’s Gameweek 26 blank as they face Southampton in the EFL Cup final.

With a Gameweek 28 fixture – again involving the Saints – now also postponed, that exodus is likely to gather pace. Team-mates Pogba and the injured Phil Jones also find themselves in the top 30 for transfers-out.

United’s squad is arguably the strongest in the Premier League, which is just as well as the club are still in all three domestic competitions and highly likely to progress to the Round of 16 in the Europa League.

Their immediate league schedule is a kindly one, but two blanks in the next three Gameweeks and the promise of some serious fixture congestion to come could compromise the lure of their key assets.

The quarter-final draw at least adds another layer of intrigue for Fantasy managers.

United will travel to Chelsea, meaning a guaranteed Gameweek 34 postponement for one of that pair, with the Red Devils due to visit Burnley, while the Blues are meant to be entertaining Southampton. Again, those fixtures may remain in Gameweek 34 and shifted to the vacant midweek slot.

Manchester United XI: Romero, Young, Smalling, Rojo, Darmian, Carrick, Herrera, Lingard (Pogba 62), Mkhitaryan, Martial (Ibrahimovic 62), Rashford (Mata 89).
Subs not used: Henderson, Bailly, Shaw, Schweinsteiger.

* The rest of the quarter-final draw involves Middlesbrough at home to either Manchester City or Huddersfield and Arsenal, should they beat Sutton United tonight, at home to Lincoln City.

That could force the rescheduling of following Gameweek 34 fixtures: Arsenal v Sunderland; Bournemouth v Middlesbrough and Man City v West Brom. Although, as mentioned, those fixtures could remain in the Gameweek 34 midweek slot.

Is there any possibility of a triple gw?

Yes, Arsenal, City or United will have three game to rearranged if they make the cup semi's, and only two obvious game weeks to rearrange them in (GW34 and GW37).

assuming a game isn't hastily arranged for midweek in GW26.

Possible. But not worth getting too excited about. In the only other occurrence of it ever happening only one player played all 3, and he was a cameo sub for 2 of them.

Yes, i'd be surprised if any player started all three games. Arsenal, City or United squad's would be stretched to the limit if they are still chasing CL places however.

It will depend on league positions on who will play also. Fighting for a top 4 or Euro place maybe but if a league game is not important there will be playes rested big time.

What transfer to make here? Is Jones -> Robertson too reliant on defence, leaving me too short in midfield?

Eriksen - Philips - De Roon

I think you have to look at taking out Sanchez or Ibra. Too much tied up there when they are playing 1/3 gw's. Bench one sell the other

Yeah thinking this.. I don't want to lose Sanchez but think I may have to. Especially as it gets me a player like Mane in his place.

Similar to my dilemma. I have more cash tied up in Sanchez but he has a more natural replacement in Mane who will play both blank weeks.

I have Lukaku so could do Ibra > Costa or Kane for 2 weeks. Both have a good fixture this week but torn between the 3 transfers

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Should we make sure we have Spurs coverage over the coming Gameweeks, given key players ( Vertonghen and Rose) are set to return or have already returned to boost their form.

Also their fixture run looks particularly enticing (STK, EVE, blank, SOU, bur)

Or is their GWK 28 blank putting you off?

If you have or are considering a Spurs asset or two which have you got/are getting in?

As we've seen with Lukaku and Kane before - missing out on a well owned player capable of big points hauls can be devastating for your overall rank.

Currently holding only Eriksen, the blank is putting me off investing further but I'm worried about not having Kane. I'm hoping that due to Eriksens involvement that even if spurs assets do well then I won't miss out too much.

Holding Kane and Walker through 28 but looking at switching Alli to Snoddy. Can then afford to do Phillips to Sanchez gw29,leaving me a midfield of Sanchez,Mane,Siggy and Snoddy, will also have the cash to do Brunt to Alonso then as well.

I thought everyone sold their Spurs assets for Siggy last week 😉

Seriously though, I probably wouldn't be selling Spurs assets, but I wouldn't be buying them either - no GW28, and no DGW likely before GW37. If I wanted to bring in a player who blanked GW28, I'd get a Chelsea player in.

      Reply fail:

Currently have Eriksen and Alli and will definitely keep both for the next two fixtures. I might ditch one depending on form for a GW28 starter. Also have my eye on Rose for when he returns. If they revert back to their decent form playing 3-5-2 I think Rose/Walker and one spurs attacker is ideal.

Well, for me, Im considering at least one, Walker, mostly because I got him for 5,5. Have Alli and Kane too at the moment but its easier benching Walker and use AOA chip, if I decide to boot the other two and field a strong attacking 8

Their run to the end of the season looks decent. Happy with 2 for now though (Walker, Alli) want to see what happens when Rose comes back into the team. When they play 3-4-3 rather than 4-2-3-1 it seems to bring the best out of the team.

      Holding Kane and Eriksen.

Kane hatrick and Eriksen with two assists in FA Cup isn't anything to sniff at.

Once Rose is back they will be hot property again and those who have will be ahead of the pack. Great fixtures on the horizon too!

Have had Alli for about a month now, good solid 2 points every week. Similar with Kane - delivered some great 2 point captain hauls for me in the run up to Christmas, sold, then he went on a great run. Sold again this week after mediocre returns. Sure there is a big haul incoming now.

I let Alli go a couple of weeks ago but still holding Eriksen as Spurs cover. I'd like to reinvest in Spurs, and I'm eying up Rose to replace one of my Everton defenders after gw28.

However it's not the gw28 that puts me off (got 10 players now, thanks Lincoln), but the continued involvement in the Europa League. Poch has rotated his fullbacks heavily in the past, and the potential fixture congestion is a great concern. I generally like to see our clubs do well in Europe but I'd like to see Gent put them out to be honest

I'm keeping Alli and Eriksen for now but with the blank in 28 Rose will have to wait. I will reassess in a few weeks and probably upgrade Alli to Sanchez who I'm ditching this week for Mane.

Forget the blank. If you are getting 8 or 9 out in the blank then you will be fine. Kane is so explosive compared to Costa and Ibra. Kane's PPG is great considering he was injured at the beginning of the season. Run of fixtures is good too. We need to keep our fingers crosses that they get knocked out of the Europa League though.

One of Eriksen or Alli might go this week for me. I'm not sure if I'm going nuts this week with a crazy -12 or just sit tight and don't do any moves at all. I'm not impressed with the Spuds fixtures though and having both MF's is overkill.

Well I'm all over the map with many different moves:

Out: Eriksen or Allie, Stanislas, Sanchez, Ake (yup, still have him)
In: Mane, Snodgrass, Hazard, Harry Mags.

I might pull the trigger and do it all on Friday night...or just go Ville Ronka style and just do one of the 4 (like Sanchez to Hazard) with my 1 FT.

I don't think the fixtures you are mentioning are that enticing Jonty and the form they have shown in the last few weeks were hardly convincing. Perhaps they'll play better with Rose back, but for now I don't see any reasons to invest any further besides Eriksen who I already have

They are off form atm though, and second half of the season blips have habitually affected Spurs. I know they kept it together until almost the very end last season, but I dont have as much confidence in my picks as I did last month.

Take a hit for any of these:

    Jaku,
    Alonso, brunt, Coleman
    Philips, eriksen, siggy, capoue
    Lukaku, Defoe, Rondon

    Boruc, Daniels, Sanchez, amat

6.6m itb, Rondon is killing me but I've gotta keep him for the blanks, need to get rid of capoue...Well over due. Barkley or Mane for a hit or no real urgency for a -4?

Seems everything I read is pointing to Mane. If cash isn't an issue, would you still get Firmino? Mane has a much higher conversion rate and seems to take his shots from closer inside the box. I don't watch Liverpool games though so the stats might be fooling me.

Having second thoughts about Ibra-Costa-Ibra moves for next 2 GW. Original plan, was to just bench Ibra and save the transfer for GW28. If I get Costa, I will bench Gray (hul), so now I am thinking what do Costa needs to do so I make something out of the transfer - basically I lose 2 transfers, that equal 2 gols at least points wise and without hits then will have only 8 (9 if Holgate plays) players for GW28. So will need hits to get full team up. Money wise I will gain 0.1 from Ibra and probably 0.1 from Costa. I am now 55/45 in favour of just benching Ibra. Any advice?

I am getting rid of Ibra. Because he is not explosive enough in the PL for me and with EFL cup, FA cup and Europa league he is going to find it difficult to play every PL minute. Kane's PPM is quality IMO. Lukaku is a steal at his price too.
