The Stock Check – Gameweek 26 – Monday

Jamie Vardy resumes the party as Leicester City revive their title-winning performance levels to run Liverpool ragged, while Philippe Coutinho provides the only bright spark for the humbled Reds.

On the Rise

Jamie Vardy
The hat-trick in Gameweek 15 against Manchester City came from nowhere and, several months later, Vardy again seemingly plucked a performance from thin air to blitz Liverpool.

Chasing and hassling throughout, the hunger and energy was back in Vardy’s game. But that was coupled with two clinical finishes, reminiscent of his 24-goal title-winning campaign.

In Fantasy terms, our interest remains on ice. Judgement on any potential Leicester City revival has to be reserved until we assess them against Marco Silva’s Hull City, a team that will surely be more savvy to the Foxes’ ploys, shutting down the space behind their defence to limit Vardy’s impact.

A full-blown renaissance would be a major development which could possibly unlock Vardy and accompanying Leicester assets as options.

But priced at 9.6, Vardy would remain a major investment risk given the stability and consistency now on offer from the “big four” strikers.

Christian Fuchs
A superb assist, two chances created overall and a pair of attempts on goal – Fuchs was another to roll back to his 2015/16 form, reminding us of what might have been.

Returning four assists and 15 clean sheets last term, the Austrian was a powerful asset and, like Patrick van Aanholt for Sunderland in 2015/16, always our go-to option when the fixtures lent themselves to Leicester defensive investment.

Monday’s display suggested that this could be the case again, as he powered down the flank to support his winger, with Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton swapping throughout.

A King Power Stadium double-header approaches that brings both Stoke City and Sunderland over Gameweeks 30-31 and may yet see the Leicester rearguard make a late claim for consideration.

Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian was another asset to emerge from Monday’s clash offering the suggestion of a revival.

Previously established as our preferred route into Liverpool’s midfield, Coutinho had been de-railed by an injury and then superseded by team-mates.

Sadio Mane went into Monday’s encounter acquired by more than 366,000 new owners and with 111,000+ armband backers.

But while the Senegalese huffed and puffed without effect to be replaced, along with Adam Lallana, on 66 minutes, it was left to Coutinho to drag Liverpool back into the match.

He obliged with a second-half strike that was to prove academic. However, it still marked Coutinho’s first goal and attacking points since the Gameweek 11, ending a run of eight appearances and seven starts without returns.

Perhaps more significantly, Coutinho amassed a total of six efforts on goal, three from inside the box – more than any other midfielder in Gameweek 26 and tied with Harry Kane and Christian Benteke overall.

In terms of goal threat, it equalled Coutinho’s best performances of the season – indication perhaps that another power shift in the Reds’ midfield is imminent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How does this look assuming City win?

    Week 27 for -4
    Alli to Sterling
    Costa to Aguero

    Gives
    Heaton
    Alonso Coleman Mawson
    Mane Sterling Siggy Eriksen
    Kane Lukaku Aguero (c)

    Pickford De Roon Nyom Yoshida

    Week 28 for -4
    Sterling to Firmino
    Aguero to Llorente

    Gives 9 playing ( 3 Swansea )

    Heaton
    Coleman Mawson Nyom
    Mane Siggy Firmino
    Lukaku Llorente

Pickford Alonso De Roon Eriksen Kane

I wouldn't put aguero & sterling in for 1 week only. Probably leave aguero in for 28, siggy is enough cover for Swansea u can't bank in lorente brace

Envious!!!! That's as good a side as I have seen for gw28 (looks like you may gain a few places then).
      Gw27 side very strong.
Only point is that gw28 is not (IMO) the best week to be taking hits. Good luck to you. You look to be in for green arrows both weeks with significant gain in OR.
I'm doing the kun gamble if DGW comes off.

Rough with the Smooth GWK 26

Let's hear your tales of woe and joy here.

Expecting a fair few happy Kane captainers and annoyed new Mane owners.

Anyone beat our resident Leicester fan Andy's Vardy (c)?

Rough— Played Phillips, I had Barnes as my first substitute, and van Aanholt as my second. 16 point swing, just thinking of what could have been... Spurs more than made up for it though.

Smooth— Kane, Alli and Eriksen. 77(-4), large green arrow. Very happy with that.

      Rough:

Only having 9 players playing; Phillips, Stanislas and Diomande joining Amat and Ibra on the bench.

Transfers in, Mane and Maguire, not really performing, and to cap that it looks like Maguire could be injured.

Top 4 in my ML all captained Kane, so moved a further 40 points each ahead of me, a crippling blow to chasing them down.

      Smooth:

Captain Lukaku (although pales into insignificance when compared to the Kane captainers)

      McAuley and Alli

Beat the average, final score was 51 (-4)

Smooth- 87 points, high scoring defence (mccauley and coleman), kane fired even though I captained lukaku.
Rough- my gw28 squad further depleted by injury/form meaning I only have 6 at the moment (which has been my plan overall).
Treating myself to kun (c) for DGW if it goes ahead.

Smooth: at least I got Kane - not captaining thouh
Rough: Brought in Robertson over McAuley to save funds, and thinking it was too late to get him in as their good run is about to end. Getting Mané also disappointing ofs, but hopeful it will pay back later

Smooth - 82 points and also 307 in FanDuel (kerching!)

Had the 3 Spurs attackers - Erik, Alli and Kane (patience finally rewarded).

Also had Coleman, Baines, and Siggy off the bench for Phillips 🙂

Transfers were Ibra & Sanchez to Lukaku (c) and Mane. Still happy to have Mane for the next 2 GWs.

Back into the top 5k, on the road to recovery after being Lukakuless in GW24..

Smooth - Mistakenly captained Kane after forgetting to change to armband to Lukaku after switching out from Ibra in the dying minutes of the window. Scored 90pts overall bringing my OR to 10K

      Smooth; Owned Kane, captained Hazard.

Rough; Everything else! All 1 & 2 pointers. Toby subbing off missing the cleanie, Phillips injured, Carroll injured, only one playing sub with Ibra benched so only got 10 out.

Average 47 but could have been worse.

      Rough:
My only transfer of Sanchez -> Mané was a dud, albeit one that gained me 2 points.
Carroll and Chambers were pre-warned no-show risks, but Phillips was a kick in the teeth.
      Brunt owner. Buff said.
It's just as well Antonio got that assist...

      Smooth:
Seamus Coleman. The man, the legend.
Ryan Fraser! Where did those 3 bonus points come from?

48 points, above average, but a red arrow and lost ground in my mini leagues to Kane owners (and captainers).

ML leader getting out of Jail with the Kane (c) points with 7 players

Maguire tfr for Hull if turns out to be injured

Phillips injury more for GW 28 pre planning

      Smooth

Still made up ground on ML and they have only 3 at present for GW 28
74 points after a - 4 and upto highest rank of the year to date( 201K )
The transfers still gave me plus 5 on if I had done none

Rough: Owned Phillips, Stanislas and Barnes for a grand total of -1. Also owned Chambers but covered that by taking a hit. Hazard (C) could've been much better (Kane VC).

Smooth: Did Amat -> Coleman for a hit after the Chambers news. Kane saved my gameweek, very small red arrow.

Rough: Eriksen/Brunt not getting dodgy assists. Missing out on both Phillips/Carroll and getting Pieters (0) 2nd off the bench. Makes it 20pts from 15 autosubs this season! Had 5 players (Eriksen Alli Pieters Mane Firmino) vs 2.8 players + autosubs left for top10k left after Saturday's games and somehow managed to go down in rank since Saturday. Getting in Costa for Ibra when Kane went mental.

Smooth: Coleman/Baines and Erik/Alli double ups coming in big.

Smooth - didn't follow the herd and get Mane, decided not to get Snodgrass and had Kane and Capt Lukaku

Rough - Phillips injury and Stanislas dropped left me short. Got Robertson instead of my gut feeling Funis Mori.

Smooth: GW 26 total 82 points with Barnes -1 first on the bench.

Rough: Losing both Barnes, Antonio to red cards. Doubled up on Liverpool and watching their woeful, pathetic no show performance.

      Scoutcast tonight at 9:30pm

Feel free to leave your questions for the team here.

We'll be basing this on the assumption that City will progress in the cup and have a double - with a caveat that they, of course, may not.

Should we be considering Man City defenders if they have the DGW? 1 goal conceded in last 5 domestic games, and easier to bench in Man City's tougher fixtures after the blank?

          * 1 goal conceded in last 4 domestic games (4-0 at West Ham, 2-1 v Swansea, 2-0 at Bournemouth & 0-0 at Huddersfield).
Their 5th last domestic game was 2-2 v Spurs (and their most recent game was 5-3 v Monaco).

Surely the biggest question of the week, by some distance (others may disagree).

The choice may even go down to the wire at 11.30am on 4th March. I am 40/60 at the moment (40% on TCing Aguero).

Is it best to load up on quality not quantity for 28 and hope that your Holgate's can come in off the bench for a 6 pointer.

Coutinho back on the radar as a pool asset?

Must have players for GW 28?

Can hits pay off over the next few GWs?

Is there a better time to use the TC chip, Kun looking sharp and 2 plum fixtures?

Is wildcarding in 29 worth considering with players coming out of the good fixture runs and having a bench of non players, West Brom, Everton, Amat, Holgate, Phillips?

      7. Eze Really?
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 2 months ago

Most will require 2 TFR's to get Kun. With no GW28 people are taking him om for a blank or an immediate TFR out. This adds to 3 tfr's (Call it 12 points) Forgetting the captaincy for a minute one must look at who is being replaced by him. If an Ibra or a Kane I would think worth conservatively, 6 points each, then the point recovery is 18 points. On top of this he has a slight rotation or limited pitch time consideration. That is a big ask don't you think?

A goalkeeper for price. KDB if you swap a Sanchez or Hazard. Sane if you trust game time. I would wait on Kolarov fitness though.

Is Aguero essential when you need to sell Ibra or Kane for a points hit to get him? I'm thinking Ibra or Kane could have double digit weeks anyway (goal+assist+2/3bps) which will mean Aguero may need to better 14 points to be in profit...

Who to sell for Aguero, if your only 2 forwards are Kane and Lukaku?

I guess the same applies to Costa and Lukaku owners, but perhaps to a smaller degree.

And how scared are you, if like me, you have chosen to sell Kane!

Is anyone mad enough to sell Ibra for Aguero? Could Ibra get a rest for the Bouremouth game?

Is Sterling the sensible DGW option? I'm on the verge of Hazard>Sterling(c) being as Hazard has a tricky away game and then the blank, whilst holding Ibra and Kane to cover all bases.

I will then move on Sterling for GW28 for Mane/King/Barkley etc.

How many starters in GW 28 should we be aiming to have?

How many hits are acceptable over the next 2 gameweeks to bring players in (Considering it's more or less just a 2 point hit)

Is Aguero worth bringing in for an 8 point hit? Considering it will cost a lot of people 4 points this week to bring him in and then another 4 points next week to get rid again.

Are we reading too much into Man City's potential DGW?

What to do with Philips and Stanislas? keep and hope they play some minutes in GW 28? Seems a waste of a transfer to lose them when they could play.

Is it even worth taking hits on defenders/goalkeepers?

If, say, this last week was a DGW and you WC'ed a few weeks ago in preparation, teams would have been filled with the likes of Jesus and Phillips - prudent play for me is to WC as close to the DGW as possible, all things being equal.

          • 11 Years

Yeah I was thinking this- we know who will have DGWKs (most of the big teams anyway) and I feel like with some of the strikers in the form that they're in (plus the need to get Sanchez back) maybe a WC after 28 wouldnt be the worst idea in the world...

I think this should be a bigger topic of discussion than it has been - We know who is going to have the DGWKs, and an approximate idea of when they'll be. Many of us have various things stinking up our teams (triple WBA, non-playing defenders and midfielders (Stanislas), may have over-committed to GWK 28, possibly no easy way to get Sanchez back in etc), and surely wildcarding soon can give us 9-10 weeks worth of benefit, rather than just a couple if we wait until GWK 37. It has been my plan all along to WC in 29 or 30.

I think it's probably a choice between wildcarding soon (if your squad has been really messed up by GWs 26-28) or in GW36 before the biggest DGW (or even in DGW37 if you agree with Ruth_NZ's theory that it may be more effective to use your Wildcard rather than your Bench Boost then).

There will probably be fewer than two additional matches in GW34 (unless MUN and ARS both lose their cup quarter-finals), since the cup semi-finalists may just move their games to midweek - and there may have to be other DGWs for MUN, ARS and SOU before then.

But it will be easier to plan once the cup quarter-finals have been played and the new dates for the rearranged matches have been announced - we may even know these before the deadline for GW29.

Given that in a small GW28 you'll have lots of players opposing each other in your team, do you spread the risk and have your attackers vs your defenders, or load up on 4 or 5 teams to win big and gamble that you choose the winners?

Everton vs West Brom is a key one for many. Bench Brunt, or keep him as insurance for a Lukaku blank? Or play both and hope his OOP and set piece skills get attacking returns? And if so, do you play Coleman/Baines, for the same reason, against Phillips/Morrison/Chadli?

Is Liverpool's form a major concern? They have only 2 wins in 12 games (plymouth and a suicidal high-line playing Spurs). Could their fixture against Burnley in 28 not be the crock of gold that we all thought it could be?

I was planning on Alli -> Sterling to fund Ibra -> Aguero but after looking at my next few weeks, I'd want Alli/Erikssen back in again and thought, if I did Mane -> Sterling instead, I free more cash for other moves (like bringing Sanchez back in) and save myself a transfer on top. Question is, which is better?

        A) Alli -> Sterling (using a transfer after GW28 to bring him back for a hit)
        B) Mane -> Sterling (but losing a GW28 player)
        C) Don't bring Aguero in for GW28 (probably would be TC) and do something else

Smeggs11 suggested I put this question in here as it's something others would be considering.

With Siggy/Alexis/Pool mids taking up three spots potentially there's place only for one spurs mid. Alli's goal threat or Eriksen's creativity? Would love to hear the scouts' thoughts.

I think the way forward is having just having two city players a mid and defender getting in Aguero will mess up the balance in the team plus he could only play one gw then your stuck with him gw28

        3) How many Man City players do we need for the double gameweek?

        4) Are we missing out on points and ignoring good players because of GW28?

        5) With 1 win in 10, Howe needs to change things fast. Could Stanislas be recalled to the starting 11?

        6) Are you getting Sanchez back at the first possible opportunity? Is it risky to put it off?

With decent enough fix, is a WHU midfielder a good option as a cheap 4th mid enabler to allow the return of big hitters?
And who do you feel is the better pick: Lanzini or Snodgrass?

...surely they can do better than Phillips has been doing in recent weeks anyway 😉

Hot topic is Aguero and TC

Risky business to use TC on a striker that might not even get two times 90min

When there are a lot of nailed options for TC incoming later

DGW TC candidates better than Kun imo: Ibra, Sanchez, Kane

By the same measures it will be risky to keep TC till GW 37 and then one of those you mentioned gets injured for example. Also BB could be a much better option in GW 37 than a TC

Is wilcarding gw 29 that insane? Could get back the "essential" players such as Sanchez and Kane who made way for Mane and Agüero while bringing the dgw players who will be coveted come gw 34-37, some of them having a good run in the meantime (Spurs assets for instance). Wba players could also be replaced. Free transferts until then might give us the possibilty to adjust to possible injuries and drops in form. Would really appreciate if you took the time to think on this scenario as i have the feeling it was too quickly discarded. Cheers!

Ibra for Aguero not so good- risky- limited upsaide esp with a hit

        1) Are Stoke assets being totally overlooked in all this madness
City's defense is pretty crappy the likes of Allen Arnautovic and even Crouch offer great value and would be easier to bench after 27

        2) If one was to indulge in Stoke and wanted to go against the grain and think outside the box who to captain of these 2 Allen or Arnautovic

Big question for me, like most, would be about Aguero.

I've looked at potential DGWs for other heavy hitters like Sanchez, Kane and Zlatan, and none of them look as good as Aguero's.

Why are there so many doubts? I personally think it's because it's so early and the DGW has come from nowhere. Saving the TC chip didn't work last season. Using it at the premium time is better than using it late.

The fixtures are outrageously good and he doesn't have the Gabriel Jesus competition. I also think Pep thinks City could yet have a say in the title race.

Aguero TC looks a lock to me.

It's surely worth mentioning how fatigued Ibra was at the end of the Southampton game. He was on his knees gasping for air in injury time and he wasn't jumping around celebrating like everyone else. What kind of a game can we expect from Ibra at the weekend? Will he just wander around outside the box and give a few passes in like he did at the end of the Leicester game? If United are cruising early on, surely he'll be due a rest..

Are some people falling into same trap as last season selling spurs assets for dgw players? Seen a load of Alli/Eriksen out for Sterling/Sane and Kane for Kun as Spurs have 'Everton' at home.

Alli/Eriksen to Sterling/Sane is it really worth (-4) and also transfer them out next week? Seen a lot of posts this week of people taking hits for the them. We already know that we would have to transfer them out in GW28 if City have a DGW.

Plus the fixtures after GW28 we would definitely want 2-3 Spurs players.

Personally I'm not at all tempted to make the move. Thinking of just getting Aguero and captaining him.

      B) Mane -> Sterling (but losing a GW28 player)
      C) Don't bring Aguero in for GW28 (probably would be TC) and do something else

My guess would be after the FA Cup quarter finals, the PL would then know every blank and every game that needs rearranging for the rest of the season, so could sort them all out in one fail swoop.

Could games be before GW34 if teams out of Europe? I know the EUFA rules but it does not apply if there are no alternatives.

Yes. They might have to clash with UEFA. But United are the big problem, especially seeing that they may well go all the way in the EL. One of their fixtures will probably be left hanging.

A TGW in GW37 is also an outside possibility.

Will Rondon ever score again this season?

Finally i'll be free of him for Kun next gw. No goal in 6 plum fixtures is not what i expected playing for a decent westbrom side

Doing the same move this gw. No doubt Rondon will find his shooting boots this gw.

Thing is, there's been no other strikers doing anything in that price bracket anyways. At least he's played? It's frustrating but he's only cheap.

      Come on City!

Want Aguero (c) for GW27. Hope they beat Huddersfield and Aguero does not play in that game.

IF (Massive IF) United get a TGW in 37, what's the best way to go? Also presuming that GW37 is a big DGW (Enough to have 15 DGW players).

      TC Ibra.

Bench Boost (A TGW could also be for Southampton too?)

TC Ibra is almost guaranteed returns (But would depend on United's priorities? Having said that he never gets rested anyways...)

This will be almost as useless as all the 26-28 plans in the week before the FA cup fixtures. Liverpool and City making them all go to pot.

Any ideas for upcoming GW27 and GW28?

      Foster Jaku

      Coleman Baines Nyom Chambers Amat

      Sterling Mane Alli Siggy Fletcher

      Ibra Kane Lukaku

      2 FT & 1.9 ITB

I'm struggling here. Any thoughts guys? Got 1.0 in the bank.

      Foster
      Baines // Coleman // Walker // McCauley
      Sanchez // Eriksen // Siggy
      Lukaku // Kane // Costa

      Pickford // Phillips // Carroll // Amat

Thinking that I want Aguero just for a safe captain option so would Sanchez + Costa to Sterling/Mane + Aguero (-4) be a good move? Seems like it just forces me into further hits.

If Sterling's fixtures had fell in a DGW since GW16....

      16+17 = 15 Points
      17+18 = 18 Points
      18+19 = 11 Points
      19+20 = 7 Points
      20+21 = 7 Points
      21+22 = 7 Points
      22+23 = 13 Points
      23+24 = 12 Points
      24+25 = 14 Points

In the same two fixtures at the start of the season he would've got 9 points in a DGW. Aguero got 21 points in the same two...

        So Sterling(C) then?

No Kun for me...I can't wait to see Iheanacho fielded in one of those games and then log on to read all the misery posted here

Iheanacho hasn't played since 15/1, if you think he is thrown straight in to a PL game the joke is on you. And if he does play tomorrow, Kun definitely won't need a rest in the next two after that.

what if Pep simply bench him in one of those. Very possible imo.

when Kun was out Nacho wasn't playing so I don't think that there is anyone who can take his place with Jesus out. Plenty of midfielders to take Sterling place though.

Whats the logic behind this? Theres nobody pep can really play instead of Aguero. Nacho doesn't fit the system at all

Bang on - if he doesn't (allegedly) like Aguero lolloping around up front and not tracking back, why on earth would he want Nacho playing who is far lazier?

I've got a wildcard, bench boost and tc still to play and likely about 7 or 8 players for gw28, what's the consensus ? do I play the wc to get a full team or wait until dgw's ? do we have any news likely for rescheduled games ?
