The Community Round Up

The ascent of Manchester United’s Anthony Martial was amongst the top issues discussed in both our community articles and hot topics this week. Our regular community scribes were also on hand to share their crystal ball gazing skills regarding clean sheets and goal prospects. While elsewhere in our discussions, the hot topics included Watford’s budget striker, the West Brom defence and film-going Fantasy Football style. It was an epic week for table constructing in the Members area and also a week to remember for those riding high in our Community leagues.

The Community Articles

Anthony Martial has taken Fantasy Football by storm with three goals in two Premier League appearances. But Diva has taken a closer look at his shooting statistics and medium term fixture list and is urging caution.

Rodellegabomb also includes the French youngster in his round of the week’s best bandwagons.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s rearguard are among those set to keep a clean sheet, according to The Sarjeant’s latest Team Form Focus.

There was further crystal ball gazing, with a little help from the bookmakers, in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the bookies say article. You can also see his round up of Gameweek 6’s predictions here.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With 0.3m worth of price rises in a single week, the Martial love affair has dominated much of the community’s discussions this week. According to Pug Life and others who took part in our discussion on the Manchester United new boy, his strengths as a striker should come as no surprise to those who follow French football.

There was further talk about Martial in TreatYoSelf’s look at price rise chasing and Siva Mohan’s discussion on the best replacement for the injured Christian Benteke also saw the Frenchman’s fans out in full force.

Could Watford’s Odion Ighalo offer a cut price alternative to Martial? Demi is certainly tempted by the Nigerian international. Heels Over Head also provided some excellent statistics to strengthen Ighalo’s case for inclusion.

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle, who, like Martial, also scored a brace in Gameweek 6, is another potential target. But, why are so many ignoring the striker, pondered Jaffalicious.

For those looking to broaden their search for a striker even further, Eden Hazardous’ discussion on the community’s dream front eight provides plenty of other contenders.

Chelsea’s stars are also attracting attention, after a marked improvement in their performance against Arsenal in Gameweek 6. With Diego Costa banned for three matches, Eden Hazard comes into contention as a key asset now and Beavis was on hand to show us how the midfielder has fared when Costa has previously been absent.

While Martial’s price rises have been in the ascendency GunsnRoses has been looking into the mysterious case of Pedro and his lack of price rises, despite earning similar transfers when he first joined the Premier League.

For those looking for a less exciting transfer this week Innsie sparked this discussion on whether to draft in Craig Dawson or Johnny Evans in the search for some reliable Tony Pulis influenced clean sheets at West Brom.

Thanks to the Beavis’s discussion about the Scoutcast we were able to implement a couple of key changes to the format this week, most notably making our Rough with the Smooth round up of your good and bad weeks a little smoother on your ears. For those who want to read the rough cut version click here.

It is not just Martial that the community has attracted praise. There was plenty of accolades being dished out in Athletico Timbo’s discussion on the community’s best Fantasy managers, many of whom turned out to answer Optimus’s plea for some cringe-worthy Fantasy Football based movie quote puns.

The Members Tables

There was a raft of top table posted by the community this week with Venicebean hoping to find the complete player, while in contrast Doosra has been looking at which players have been firing blanks. Giggs Boson’s look at CBI, alegendj’s examination of goalkeepers and defenders via team defensive statistics were among other recent highlights.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 38, which saw 165 players depart and 2,160 remain.

HVT, Rodellegabomb and Daniel Levy are among the early front runners following the first round of of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament. Full results and group standings can be found here.

The first instalment of results for the qualifying round for Balders Community Grand Play Offs competition put Somewhat Pleasing in poll position to grab one of its 256 places.

Andy marches on at the summit of the FFS Moderators and Contributors league and now has a commanding 38-point lead over Applebonkers in second.

Meanwhile in the Puffinboy Memorial Cup, for the site’s oldest regulars, Back on the horse has taken top spot.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

I saw 5 upvotes which is not bad for a deadzone and pages flying..

You know the procedure, post a dillema for 2 players or 4 players (2 vs 2), I will answer stats wise. And I am checking the members area and answering with stats just for the record.

        Alexis.

More game time assured and better finishing. But they are first (Wally) and second on my goal imminent table for the record. Just the assured starting role and playing time (Giroud has red in CS) sways it to Alexis for me. Both have good underlying stats by the way 😉

City mid. Chelsea fan here. More goals in City. KDB or Yoyo. Yoyo is the stat answer for the record...

Chelsea mids still need some gelling and more data on them. For now Pedro is the answer. Could be Hazard, we need more time..

Bottom line you need both. IF you can, this week go Chelsea mid, next GW City mid would be perfect..

But if you can have only one that City mid. They (City) are better for chances created, shots in box and shots on target per game 😉

Minute per attempt Pedro better, minute per chances created KDB better. Hmmm.... I will probably have them both, but here money is also a question and will you captain KDB ever? You might Pedro and you will always probably pick Kun as captain.

Pedro is my answer. Yoyo can cover KDB for less money, even Otamendi (stats wise), but Pedro could (the jury is still out) match Hazard output and Hazard is 11.3

I answered on previous page, please check there. Rondon clearly wins it. Not even a competition. Also Rondon is goal imminent. Zouma for me. 0.6 difference and better goal threat edges it...

Stats wise is clear cut, Alexis...

Wilson stats wise. I believe I can say this (I am allowed) - Ayew has only one headed attempt in last 2 games. Ouch. Headed attempts are least likely (stats wise) to be converted to goals.. Also Ayew opponent is better team defensive stats wise 😉

Stats wise it's close between Mane and Ayew with Mane little bit edging it due to better form (stats wise) and goal imminent stats. Latest Ayew attacking stats are awful (see above). Payet is third on that list behind those 2. Also stats wise 😉

I think if your captain blanks this week it may not be that much of a deficit as it seems a lot of the captain choices are spread out quite evenly I think this GW compared to other GWs so far this season

It wouldn't surprise me Swansea always seem to have really good spells then sometimes just go downhill a little and I was listening to the guardian football podcast a few weeks back and they were talking about how gomis would get into very hot streaks at Lyon and when he lost form he wouldn't be able to score for a lengthy time which was worrying

It depends on what you have in the bank. I prefer Silva to Hazard if you can do it. Then wait a week to decide on KDB and Yaya (knowing that Silva likely will return after the break as well).

He'll get minutes off the bench and will start in midweek. LVG has come to his senses and realised United has only 2 strikers, Martial and Wilson. Rooney is a midfielder now.

Wilson is a good player but he's not a regular starter yet. LVG was thinking of sending him on loan but wants to hold onto him for the first half of the season now. He'll go out on loan in January I think.

I'm not sure to be honest. I think Mourinho looks at it more as a manager vs manager type of game rather than club, he has had problems beating Pardew, so maybe he sees him as more of the problem than Newcastle the club? I don't think his record against Newcastle counts for much.

Aguero is a different matter, he will look on Spurs as a team he likes playing, but I think right now Aguero is missing that fraction of a percent and is just (he's so so close though) not managing to perform right now - so maybe the game against Spurs is where he will be aiming to start scoring form? Or maybe he will continue his (relatively) poor form. I personally think Aguero needs a prolonged rest before he will get back to his best. But I could well be wrong.

Hope that helps somewhat (though it probably doesn't haha!) 🙂

I'm thinking of captaining Hazard mainly because I see him having a higher chance of playing 90 minutes than both Martial and Aguero. Is that kind of a stupid reason to captain someone though?

Yeah, thankyou. Part of my reasoning is more minutes = more potential points. But I suppose Aguero and Martial could be explosive enough to not need the minutes, and maybe I'm just playing conservative? I'm not sure.

          Thanks for the reply 🙂

      20 team draft league

3rd division (of a 3 tier league) now open

slow draft... takes about 10 days... 9 hours on clock... starts October 4th after games...

draft league means each player only owned by one manager

trading and free agent wire pickups during season to manage team

11 players on each team, 7 start each week

          • 10 Years

somewhat standard... some slight but significant differences

including (but there's probably more as I'm still morning groggy)

1 point for starting, no point for 60 minutes

No phantom assists (no assists for falling down to win a PK, pinging the ball off the post, etc... genuine pass that leads to a goalscoring kick or it isn't an assist)

Scoring can be modified anytime within a week of match (i.e. Hazard's goal would have been taken away in the draft league by Fantrax, whereas FPL doesn't)

          .3333 per save for GKs

I know most of you will already be set with 3 City, but if you haven't maxed out yet, make sure you do by next week. 5 home games in the next 7 follow this week's trip to Tottenham:

NEW, BOU, mun, NOR, avl, LIV, SOT

the first three home games and the trip to Villa especially could be carnage.

Re the KDB / Chelsea mid debate: isn't it likely that KDB will be shunted into a wider position once Silva returns? Yes he will drift inside but surely he won't be as productive as he has been so far? This kinda swings the debate towards Hazard for me..
