The Community Round Up

The ascent of Manchester United’s Anthony Martial was amongst the top issues discussed in both our community articles and hot topics this week. Our regular community scribes were also on hand to share their crystal ball gazing skills regarding clean sheets and goal prospects. While elsewhere in our discussions, the hot topics included Watford’s budget striker, the West Brom defence and film-going Fantasy Football style. It was an epic week for table constructing in the Members area and also a week to remember for those riding high in our Community leagues.

The Community Articles

Anthony Martial has taken Fantasy Football by storm with three goals in two Premier League appearances. But Diva has taken a closer look at his shooting statistics and medium term fixture list and is urging caution.

Rodellegabomb also includes the French youngster in his round of the week’s best bandwagons.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s rearguard are among those set to keep a clean sheet, according to The Sarjeant’s latest Team Form Focus.

There was further crystal ball gazing, with a little help from the bookmakers, in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the bookies say article. You can also see his round up of Gameweek 6’s predictions here.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With 0.3m worth of price rises in a single week, the Martial love affair has dominated much of the community’s discussions this week. According to Pug Life and others who took part in our discussion on the Manchester United new boy, his strengths as a striker should come as no surprise to those who follow French football.

There was further talk about Martial in TreatYoSelf’s look at price rise chasing and Siva Mohan’s discussion on the best replacement for the injured Christian Benteke also saw the Frenchman’s fans out in full force.

Could Watford’s Odion Ighalo offer a cut price alternative to Martial? Demi is certainly tempted by the Nigerian international. Heels Over Head also provided some excellent statistics to strengthen Ighalo’s case for inclusion.

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle, who, like Martial, also scored a brace in Gameweek 6, is another potential target. But, why are so many ignoring the striker, pondered Jaffalicious.

For those looking to broaden their search for a striker even further, Eden Hazardous’ discussion on the community’s dream front eight provides plenty of other contenders.

Chelsea’s stars are also attracting attention, after a marked improvement in their performance against Arsenal in Gameweek 6. With Diego Costa banned for three matches, Eden Hazard comes into contention as a key asset now and Beavis was on hand to show us how the midfielder has fared when Costa has previously been absent.

While Martial’s price rises have been in the ascendency GunsnRoses has been looking into the mysterious case of Pedro and his lack of price rises, despite earning similar transfers when he first joined the Premier League.

For those looking for a less exciting transfer this week Innsie sparked this discussion on whether to draft in Craig Dawson or Johnny Evans in the search for some reliable Tony Pulis influenced clean sheets at West Brom.

Thanks to the Beavis’s discussion about the Scoutcast we were able to implement a couple of key changes to the format this week, most notably making our Rough with the Smooth round up of your good and bad weeks a little smoother on your ears. For those who want to read the rough cut version click here.

It is not just Martial that the community has attracted praise. There was plenty of accolades being dished out in Athletico Timbo’s discussion on the community’s best Fantasy managers, many of whom turned out to answer Optimus’s plea for some cringe-worthy Fantasy Football based movie quote puns.

The Members Tables

There was a raft of top table posted by the community this week with Venicebean hoping to find the complete player, while in contrast Doosra has been looking at which players have been firing blanks. Giggs Boson’s look at CBI, alegendj’s examination of goalkeepers and defenders via team defensive statistics were among other recent highlights.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 38, which saw 165 players depart and 2,160 remain.

HVT, Rodellegabomb and Daniel Levy are among the early front runners following the first round of of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament. Full results and group standings can be found here.

The first instalment of results for the qualifying round for Balders Community Grand Play Offs competition put Somewhat Pleasing in poll position to grab one of its 256 places.

Andy marches on at the summit of the FFS Moderators and Contributors league and now has a commanding 38-point lead over Applebonkers in second.

Meanwhile in the Puffinboy Memorial Cup, for the site’s oldest regulars, Back on the horse has taken top spot.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Wilson over Ayew. Gomis is on pens and slightly more chances than Ayew recently.

This is the season of lazy shooting duck journalism.

i come here because I like the opinion of football geeks and use it to benefit my betting strategies. I come clean. the fantasy side of it is secondary to me. The thing is that I am getting bugged lately by a total transparency of lazy writing in the articles and a lack of spunk in the community.

Let me tell you one thing that sticks out to me in the coming game week__The bookies are prepared to offer 11/2 on Sun getting a draw at Old Trafford and will stick their necks out @ 12/1 and above if Sun can miracle a win. Most chat is about the new Martian in town but little on the decimated Utd defense.___Shallow enmities.

Get a grip and grow some balls and discuss the option of Sunderland sticking it to the bookies and the fudge packets on here, that can't see the meteorite landing on their heads, before Bruce Wallace and Grommet drill a hole into your senseless skulls.

I don't think it will be Sunderland though,

Man Utd are undefeated in 23 of their last 25 matches against Sunderland in all competitions.

I think either of the promoted sides (NOR and BOU) can get a result this weekend.

TOT is capable of pulling a Chelsea New Years upset special

Newcastle have won the last 3 vs Chelsea at home.

Leicester's form can cause Arsenal problems.

Aston Villa more than capable of keeping Liverpool in check. I believe they won there last season. Also see midweek vs Carlisle.

I will follow up with a similar post soon as I'm looking for opinions.

Digested that now Rub tx___the Sun game is just a one off single for me and will not be in my accas. c'mon Sun!

Think you have it on the ball actually and the only one I would take issue with is Hammers having too much for the canaries. In fact the prem looks a minefield and the only two in my acca will be Chelsk and Hammers. tx again.

Just put a small bet on United failing to score. I think the Martial hype is severely overblown. Could see Sunderland scoring as well, Defoe isn't finished just yet. I predicted the West Ham win last week but had it as part of a multibet that failed 🙁

Generally with betting I throw a lot of dung at the wall and see what sticks. Got a Cashback option if I make a 4 leg multi where one leg fails so that's most of what I do.

I also have money on Mahrez, Gomis and Agbonlahor scoring. Good odds in that last one, 5/1

Worst attack in the league vs one of the best defences in the league? I just can't see a Sunderland win, not even a 1-0 smash and grab. Now a 0-0 draw or a 1-1 draw looks pretty good value IMO and Martial hype has gone completely crazy because United fans' expectations are so low that they've all got to pin their hopes on are two *potential* wunderkids.

It happened with ADm last season, but it did work. He did well for about 3 games then.. you know the rest. It's funny how all the man united fans seem to have disappeared but martial and ADM really show how many of them there really is

    4. Bolivian Seaman

It's almost impossible, manure only concede 1 or 0 mos games. Last season they went about 30 games in a row conceding 1 with a few clean sheets. So you're looking for a 1-0 win really. But the sunderland defence will concede at least one

I'd say it's almost impossible and even if sunderland were playing well it would be a 10% chance to win

Sunderland can beat teams, they can't beat united. LVG has got a boring tactic to defend even when they have the ball! Even with bad defenders, they are tight. It would take one hell of a defensive effort to keep a cleansheet. It could happen though

Such a disappointment that there is no clear cut Benteke replacement for the next six.

Bojan is the only one who looks good, but he is a reverse OOP, and that stinks.
Pelle has very bad next two, the fixtures becomes good after that though.
Deeney or Ighalo being in Watford is the problem, since I don't want two promoted team strikers in my team.

I went to see the Pope today in Central Park, as he walked by in his motorcade, he blessed us all one-by-one. When he came up to me, he started doing the hand motion for the cross. Nimble as a fox, I politely interrupted him mid-motion, "Mr. Francis, it is not I who needs thy blessing. Nay, for it is my FPL team & my DZ brethren who are in Dier need of your holy blessing. Please, Papa Francis, we have suffered all summer long, no TV, no good captains to lead our tribes, we've been sleeping on top of stats tables *sheds tear*, el holy Kun has been shi-." He stopped me before I could finish, he understood the atrocities that have befallen upon us, he couldn't see me suffer any longer....

Suddenly, Mr. Francis started the cross motion again "in the name of the Father, the Son & the holy Kun. I give you my blessing." I didn't know what to do or say, I was just so ecstatic, I started flailing my arms uncontrollably http://cdn1.sbnation.com/imported_assets/1802767/charlie_excited.gif He left me shortly after fearing I was rounding up my Donkey Kong punch (understandable).

I hear he's got a dead team in BillyG's competition, with Kun perma-captain. Perhaps he has us all fooled *gasps*. Little does BillyG know that with the power invested in Francis, on the third GW he rose, & transferred Kun in for Rooney before he dropped.

      Martial for form.

      Aguero for history.

Both of those are safer than Sanchez imo.

      Aguero.

Martial has get let down written all over it.

Mass transfer in, 3 rises, 3 goals in 4 shots, what could possibly go wrong?

Reminds me of captaining Austin for his hatrick against West Brom last year than sticking with him for the next 2 easy home games where he did nothing, Martial still plays for a dull Van Gaal side who are not exactly an attacking force.

It's not superstitious, it's an example of something that is too good to be true not panning out that way.

Martial's rate is up there like Ronaldo and Messi's, only problem is that United are not attacking forces like Madrid or Barcelona so you can't imagine it being sustained, United have made hard work of easy fixtures under Van Gaal.

fortunately we're looking better in attack match by match and we're playing the team that has conceded the most goals in the league and the 2nd most attempts on goal and they won't sit back and defend.

That's debatable, Southampton had an off day and you played Ipswich, didn't McCarthy rest a load too?

Pantsman to have one of his 9 saves in a match game, Martial subbed off for Felliani on 65 mins when the long ball is brought out.

The script is written for a scrappy 1 nil

We'll see, I see us scoring 3, whether or not he gets any is another question..Sunderland are terrible and United are massively underrated simply because we've had a boring streak that has seen us become one of the better defensive units in the league.

Palace have a good away record and will be looking to bounce back after their defeat to Spurs. I would be surprised by a Watford CS. who is your 8th attacking player?

I wouldn't be keen on taking a hit though as Silva likely to be back soon. If you do want to go for the hit, Hazard/KDB would be the sensible choices.
