Best West Ham players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

West Ham United’s line-up for their trip to Anfield in Gameweek 1 will have a very different look to the side that sleepwalked to a 13th-place finish in 2017/18.

Summer signings Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m), Issa Diop (£4.5m), Fabian Balbuena (£4.5m), Ryan Fredericks (£5.0m), Jack Wilshere (£5.0m), Andriy Yarmolenko (£7.0m) and Felipe Anderson (£7.0m) all have realistic chances of starting against Liverpool a week on Sunday, while new manager Manuel Pellegrini has ditched the three-man backline favoured by predecessor David Moyes in favour of an attacking 4-3-3.

West Ham were a team of contradictions last season; no side conceded more league goals than the Hammers, but only the clubs finishing in the top seven kept more clean sheets.

Similarly, while their total of 48 goals scored was the eighth-best in the division, their underlying attacking statistics were mostly unremarkable – more of which we will discuss later in this article.

A grim-looking opening run of fixtures in which the Hammers play five of the “big six” in the first nine Gameweeks will likely deter too much Fantasy investment in Pellegrini’s side, but in Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) the east London club have a player bang in form and in high demand among Fantasy Premier League managers.

In-depth data on West Ham’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the feature below.

With new managers coming in prem this year playing attacking football (Silva,Pellegrini,Sarri) with Southampton leaking 2-3 per game so far, Burnley having the Europa League, Palace Watford, Bournemouth attacking minded,ManU pretty unsettled at the back, City,Liverpool,Arsenal traditionally strong in attack and leaky in defence, Spurs being a questionmark, Cardiff and Fulham with average defences and Wolves being a portuguese team now, do we expect more goals and less clean sheets this year? Hence, shall we not be investing heavily in defence this year and focus more on the attach?

    Thoughts?

Well ive been psyching myself up for 4 at the back, but you make a pretty good point. However, 5.5 to 6.0 for first choice defenders from the big teams is very cheap by historical terms, especially when the likes of Robertson and Mendy have attacking threat. Hell, i remember when John Terry used to start at 7.5 every year!

My thoughts are yes, and also the new ball is meant to have a larger sweet spot for strikers. Not sure how true that is but you never know, im hoping for lots of goals this season.

Still think the big 6 will get plenty of clean sheets during the year.

Think myself that clean sheets dry up more as the season goes on.

I still think VVD offers ridiculous value at 6.0, and with Leicester missing Vardy, Mahrez, Maguire from last year’s team against Utd in GW1, combined with Jose’s intention to start Bailly/Shaw makes those 2 very good punts as well imo.

Burnley’s goalkeepers interest me at 5.0, and beyond that I’m not sure I would spend more than 4.5 on a def.

Coleman & PVA look very exciting to own as well, but I think 5.5 is too much to start off with them.

Two ways to look at it.. yes you are correct so go cheap. Or, yes you are correct so spend big on defenders playing for top teams with best defense chances.

Probably a stupid question, but my wife (who beat me last year) and I are in disagreement.
How does the % owned effect price rises / decreases? Is it that the more a player is owned they need more transfers to effect the price, or is the lower owned players that have a higher threshold?
    Can anybody provide any insight?
PS I so hope I'm right and I will do everything possible to beat her this year LOL

Lower owned players change prices more easily.

Falls are done as a proportion of ownership, rises as a fixed number. All changes are done on net transfers in and out. I think, unless its changed in the last couple of seasons.

    3. Nespinha
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 9 months ago

% owned has nothing to do with price increase. it has to do with number or proportion of transfers in/out for increase/decrease

yes sure, less owned require less transfers for the price to change, but it will be the same in terms of percentage.

So limiting factor is number of transfers in/out, not related to owned %

At 4.5 he’s just so god damn cheap. Doesn’t really matter if he gets 2’s imo, but he has high upside to,deliver the odd 9 pointer or maybe even a 12 pointer, plus a nice GW1 fixture, and he does have a bit of pedigree.

Much worse picks at 4.5 imo. I’m looking at him or Doherty at the minute.

Tomkins looks king of the 4.5’s though 🙂

Deulofeu should be fit to start the season. There had been rumours he was injured, and some worse ones saying he needed surgery, but Watford say he’s merely being eased more slowly into pre-season work due to being injured towards the end of last season.

Chalobah has also been training this week..

Hopefully both, plus Doucoure, will play some part in Saturday’s friendly with Sampdoria.

You kind of know what your getting with Richarlison. Maddison has some testing fixtures to start off with to get an idea of how he's stepping up to the PL.

My brain says Richarlison, my heart and gut says Maddison. So Maddison

The one who I really struggle to spell. 😆

Maddison is more wait and see for me.

    Which is better:

    a) Patricio, Richarlison, Jota

    b) Ederson, Mkhitaryan, Cairney

I'm currently on Neves for the hope of a penalty if he ends up playing for me doing a bit of a this season's Milivojevic but Hughes (WAT) seems popular.

      Ralls, Cairney, Jota, Costa, Kenedy,

I have my doubts on hughes game time

Was in most of my early drafts for fixtures but Everton so far have looked poor. Same with Coleman - my early triple up on Everton has slowly dwindled to maybe a Siggy punt as preseason has progressed.
