Sign up now for next Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup

February 24th 2018. The big winners were Liverpool and Brighton, who each recorded 4-1 victories in their respective triumphs over West Ham and Championship-bound Swansea.

However, in north London, under the banner of Sparta Rotterdam, a team of FFScout luminaries were also celebrating, as they lifted the inaugural Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup. A real-life football tournament which brought to together over 30 grassroots players from around the country.

The Charity Cup is returning on the afternoon of Saturday 17 November 2018 (during the international break) and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The format will depend on numbers, but with a full 3G 11-a-side pitch (which can also be divided) available to us all afternoon between 2pm and 7pm, we have the capacity and flexibility to structure the day however we wish.

We are extremely fortunate to have secured The Thomas Parmiter Sports Centre in north Watford (WD25 0UU), which is a fabulous facility and is perfectly located just minutes away from Junction 6 of the M1 and Junction 21A of the M25.

For those travelling up from London by train, Garston Station is just 1.5 miles away. We will have the entire venue to ourselves with ample parking and with a number of pubs barely a mile away.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to take part, whatever the level and whether you are fit enough to play all day or just make a cameo appearance. We’ll be organising players into squads so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to bring invite a guest player or two to boost the numbers.

All you need to do is email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com as soon as possible to confirm your interest and provide your contact details, at which point you’ll be added to the relevant WhatsApp group unless you would prefer to be kept informed by email or text instead.

February’s tournament proved a huge success and raised over £1,000 for Melanoma Research Foundation. This year we hope to raise more even money, involve even more as we donate to men’s mental health charity CALM.

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. On average, 12 men take their own life every day – more than three times the number of women.

Two of my uncles committed suicide so I personally think it’s a great cause. CALM works to prevent male suicide by providing services for men who are down or in crisis, and by campaigning for culture change so men feel able to seek help.

To donate please visit our JustGiving page:

All money raised will go directly to the charity, so please give generously.

CALM’s helpline – 0800 58 58 58 – and webchat are open daily 5pm-midnight. It’s free, anonymous and confidential.

For more information about CALM and the impact your donation will have, please read here.

CALM is a charity registered in England and Wales (1110621) and in Scotland (SC044347)

Have a frontline of Aguero - Mitro - Arnie. What to do with Arnie? I will most likely want to get him back in for GW10 or 11.

Even if he is confirmed out for the weekend would you rather keep and sort out Peltier/Chalobah which are my other issues or should I swap Arnie for Wilson/King or Zaha or similiar?

Could do Peltier -> Bennet for example and play Bennet instead of Arnie this week.

    A) Peltier -> Bennet

    B) Arnie -> max 7.3 Striker

Given you have Mitro, there's no forward I'd want short term over Arnie that I'd use 2 transfers for. Like you said Arnie from GW10 or 11 forward looks great (and many non owners likely have planned to bring him in)

      I'd do A.

Yep, considering Jimenez/Ings, but would need to "reinvest" again to afford Arnie in a few weeks so would probably keep money in the bank in that case

      I agree with Figu.

Considering you own aguero and mitro this weekend I too dont see what other forward you need beyond tbose two.

Asumiing you own the usuald robby/taa pvs doherty Alonso then you have a benching headache as it stands. For that reason I think you can easily afford to hold onto arnie even if unavailable this weekend. A swap for another forces your hand to play and benching pva might then backfire. Hold tough for now my advice

Weighed this one up at length and with great bench options and an otherwise fully fit team and no really appealing other options (not convinced by trip) I'm currently happy enough to hold him for a few weeks. The only reason to ship is value and it really isn't that important to me, less so than two transfers.

People are making decisions now but what they need to remember is the right decision for each person won't play out for a week or two.

I also don't like having my transfer decisions forced. I'd rather use my free transfers to bring in players with the highest scoring difference over the player I'm binning. With Docherty and AWB on the bench I'm not sure that bringing in trippier will really gain me much. Whereas there's other options in coming weeks that I think might

I'm amazed at the number of people selling Mendy, especially those selling him who had him from the start and are still some way off actually losing money on him.

Assuming there hasn't been a major falling out or major breach of club discipline, and I would imagine that we would know by know if this was the case, he will be out for maybe 3-4 gameweeks. Sure this is a lot but most of us have a stellar first sub in AWB and I have another decent one in Tomkins.

To sell him to save TV on a player who we will all probably want back sooner rather than later anyway seems a little short-sighted. It's one transfer to sell and another to get him back (as we inevitably will). Are two tranfers really worth 0.2-0.3m of TV?

I’m holding for the time being, but an early return for KDB would be lovely. Assuming most folks already have treble city, Mendy & a Mid > a cheaper Def + KDB would be as good a move as any.

      As it is, I think it’s GW12 or 13 before KDB’s back.

Pretty simple really, he’s red flagged, big CL rotation if and when he comes back. Sane is back in the squad and playing well. Other better options for now, and that’s not even mentioning TV.

Mind you I am wilcarding gw9 he could make a return for me.

None of us really know when he is back and how Pep line up his team when he is.

Agreed. If you had him from start it's worth waiting for definitive injury news which will probably arrive quite soon. With a strong bench no point selling. Everyone said sell Bilva too. Groupthink.

Bilvas stats were good tho. He's been v unlucky. Do you really sell every player who has blanked? You'll go round in circles mate.
Richarlison blanked. Salah and Kane have blanked a lot. Dilva didn't play. Fraser blanked. That's the game.

The question you should be asking yourself is can you afford to have 6.4 sitting on the bench for 3-4 weeks, when you could spend that money on another premium defender, who could get 20-50 points in that same amount of time?
Not worth having him on the bench IMO.
If you subbed him out for TAA or Trip a week or 2 ago you would have more points than if you didn't.

Not sure I agree, because in every game he didn't play I had AWB first on my bench. So I have actually made more points keeping and benching him than by playing Trippier (or TAA, I think, still).

I had 9+9 points form AWB because of Mendy’s absence.
That being said, you shouldn’t look back on what mignt have happened or how long he has been out for already.
What is the situation going forward? Not saying it’s a bad move shipping him - especially if WCing in GW 9, but the past is irrelevant

There seems to some other issues than the injuries as well. Great player but reminds me a little of Balotelli. I thought about keeping him but the “Balotelli” factor, suspicions injury (knee/ankle/foot?), Pep’s rotation, Sané’s form in Mendy’s absence and the likely naildness of Laporte made the decision rather straight forward.

Fair enough everyone, there might be other issues at play. I just think if it were a serious injury then Pep wouldn't be deliberately obfuscating things, and if it were a major clubn discipline issue we would have been told. I think it's a disciplinary niggle and nothing more. I will ship on WC soon if the matter is not resolved though.

Sold him as I thought his price would drop quicker than it has. Still he might drop 0.1 this week maybe if ruled out again during presser. So there’s a chance he’ll be 6.2 which is the price I sold for. If he is fit then he might play against BHA. Worst case he scores 15 points, which I would mitigate slightly by owning Ederson. Then he has liv, so not exactly rushing him back for that one.

      1. Oven Glover
        • 8 Years

That was another reason for me to ship him, the Liverpool game. I can’t imagine Pep playing him against Salah.

          • 10 Years

Exactly. And if he does he’ll get schooled, and probably dropped subsequently.

FPL players sometimes forget that premier league managers like to win games. Allowing Mendy/Alonso to roam around wherever they please is fine against the weak teams but they’ll be told to reign it in versus the big boys, especially as the season goes on.

Really tempted to bench Alonso for this reason as I see him as a red card waiting to happen versus Salah. And he won’t be roaming forward like he has in previous games.

He’s probably going to fall .3 this week, let alone over the next few GW’s, not been in the squad for 4 games now and very likely he’ll be out this weekend, then he faces Liverpool so don’t think it’s a bad idea to ship at all.

No point arguing whether us was the right move from the beginning at this point.
What are Mendy owners doing now? He might fall another 0.1 this week and maybe even more next week if still not in the squad.

I sold him last week at 6.5m, recouping 6.2m... he's currently at 6.3m when I want him back (and -18.7% to fall again so I don't lose a penny).

Also, if I were to buy him back at 6.2m, having lost no money, that price would be locked in and be less at risk of losing value with a subsequent sale.

I'd be selling at 6.1m today if I wanted rid, so not sure on your comment of people being, "still some way off actually losing money on him."

Yes, he may get injury also later and then it is good to have increased sales value. I also had Davies and Dilva, so needed to have playing XI in case of rotation. Sales value is more important factor than tv imo.

There are pros and cons. This game is all about gambling and it is a gamble whichever way you play the mendy debacle.

Obviously those that have sold have gambled on him not playing and vice versa.

I too owned him from the start and I have ditched him this week. Could backfire but that is the nature of the game.

I think the best thing for Mendy owners who had him from the start was to sell earlier this week before he dropped to 6.3.

Similar to others, I've had AWB come in the last 2 weeks, however I don't see that continuing and personally think crystal palace will concede this week.

Selling Mendy at 6.4 allowed a 0.2 profit and he will definitely drop to 6.2 at least. This means at worst case you break even or the more likely scenario is he will drop further allowing you to net gain.

Over the next 3-4 you would expect trippier to outscore.

Also would be good if they could format it with the most expensive players on the left, after grouping by the teams that the players belong to. And then indicate flagged players with asterisks, the number of which corresponding to the depth of the flag colour. That would be great...

So you are playing wildcard just to make the switch from Salah to Kane and getting in Mitrovic for Wilson when arguably Wilson has the better two fixtures next. Not for me. I personally think there is a good chance Kane doesn't outscore Salah in this period certainly not significantly. And in one of those fixtures Aguero is the best captaincy choice anyway.

After yesterday's loss against Lampard's Derby in the cup, Jose Mourinho is topping the odds to be the next Premier League manager to leave their club. Do you think the loss to Derby, after the draw with Wolves and other results this season, puts Mourinho in danger? What will it take for him to leave? Can you see it happening before Christmas?

Which other managers do you think are at risk? Who do you think will be the first to leave, and why? When do you think the first manager will be sacked?

I’d love it as a Liverpool fan, but it’s very much a one way or another situation.

Could see a massive reaction, could see the lack of motivation. I’ve got Shaw but I would avoid regardless until the situation is sorted. Something is wrong outside of quantifiable statistics.

Oh and in terms of other managers, I don’t see anyone at risk right now.

Pellegrini got his win and has tough fixtures, Sean Dyche too. The promoted sides are doing well bar Cardiff, so if anything Warnock, and outside of Ward there is very little interest in their assets.

Would take getting knocked out of the CL to get the sack imo, so no, probably in summer.

Warnock next I think. His manner of "oh we stand no chance" in all the recent games is honest but appalling from a fan perspective - literally has no clue what to do and gives up before the game's started

It was a bug mistake renewing his contract and subsequently not backing him up properly.

I don’t think he will be sacked based on a poor result in the Mickey Mouse cup. The results have been improving and currently in 7th only 2 points behind Arsenal and Spurs.
If they get knocked out of CL or the PL rank keeps sliding, then maybe, but I think they are sticking with him for as long as possible. No other replacement lined up and Mou has just a decent a chance of shoring up and getting a top 4 spot.

Yeah I agree; whatever is going on behind the scenes and whoever is 'right' doesn't matter - once it starts leaks out it has to be stopped.

I also don't think that losing in the cup at this point is a huge deal, even though it's a bad loss. The Champions League win was a more important result

No managers in danger IMO. Everyone doing pretty much as they are expected to do.

Utd need to show their opponents less respect IMO. It is no surprise that Utd played their best football against City when they disregarded Mourinho's instructions and went for the jugular. When you have a powerful team with players like Matic, Lukaku, Pogba, Valencia, Smalling, Martial (i.e. big guys who are strong and quick) then you need to go after teams and impose your physicality.

Maureen is toast. There's only one winner between him and Pogba. If they weren't so far behind in the league already and playing scintillating football, it might be different but it's not.

Surely Puel can't keep holding on, there are too many rumors even if it does seem a touch unfair on him - but the owners are trigger happy. Ditto Tan at Cardiff so maybe Warnock's relaxed because he knows it's just a matter of time.

Big Sam and Moyes are waiting for that December call...

Well I don't think you need to captain Kane this week if you decide to do those transfers. You should look more than just this week doing that. If you want Kane instead of Salah long term then don't worry too much about the -4. You'll get your players and a new ft next week. Worth the hit in my opinion

Ditch Sane and Hennessy for Patricio or Fabianski

Based on season so far looks good. Double Alonso is tasty.

Pogba - do we think he will start next match? Or be benched/left out because of the Mourinho vs Pogba thing going on? Got him in my team - but not sure if I should sell og keep....

Jose just can't afford to bench his best player, regardless of what the media are saying. He also denied any issues with him.

      I think he will play.
He is a fan favourite and has been putting in some good displays recently.
Mou won’t risk having the fans turn on him even more. He will wait for Pogba inevitable 1-3 poor displays without motivation and Then Bench

Probably plays but if there is any truth behind the rumours not sure how it might affect his attitude on the pitch.

Thoughts on this short term move - means a -4

    Salah & Ings >>>> Richarlison & Kane

I have Robertson & Mane and feel 3 Liverpool players for their next 2 fixtures might be overload.

    Thanks guys.

Why is it that some posts (including one of mine recently) don’t seem to show when I refresh but if they’re responded to I can see them through the notification you receive via email? Seems odd

Let's try this again but without the double names.....

    Hennessy
    Alonso, Laporte, Robbo
    Salah, Sané, Rich, Maddison, Fraser
    Kun, Mitro

    Ryan, Ings, AWB, Cook

Your marks out of 10 please.

Not sure about only having one Alonso, seems a risk

You've got to risk it for a biscuit!

      Hen + Ryan -> Patricio + Fab
Cook -> Duffy (or Doherty if you don’t mind doubling up)
      Ings -> Jiminez
Sane is a gamble as you know. I might look to get in Haz instead, But Sane could turn out good

Aguero -> Kane when Aguero is rested and has BHA at home is too risky for me.
