How Aubameyang compares to other FPL midfielders after positional change

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) will be a midfielder in Fantasy Premier League next season following the game’s relaunch.

The move comes about following Aubameyang’s half-season spell on the left flank, with Mikel Arteta’s appointment as Arsenal manager in December signalling a change of role for the Gabon international in the Gunners’ attack.

The reclassification further swells the premium options available to us in the middle of the park, with Marcus Rashford (£9.5m) also making the move to ‘FPL midfielder’ and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) rising considerably in price.

How does Aubameyang compare with the other heavy hitters after his positional switch, then?

Our Members article below delves into the data.

Sorry it is wood. Are we on about Harvey Barnes or Ashley Barnes here? Harvey possible depends if Leicester are still playing like after lockdown. If it’s Ashley i prefer wood

Leicester are looking for McNeil so i won't touch their wingers anymore unless someone looks ultra nailed !

Burnley striker at the start of the season is one of the most painful memories from last season !

If you mean the Leicester dude, rumours of McNeil joining so watch that space. Would probably mean he shares minutes with Ayoze.

If you mean the Burnley forward, I'd rather Wood.

McNeil joining Leicester would increase Vardy's appeal too, he's very creative, crossing machine, he was the main reason why Wood had such a high xG.

      While Jesus is fit, Werner.

I think Werner could be a golden boot contender. Would need a heck of a lot of goals to be good value, because of the disadvantage of forwards, but I think he has potential to that over a good run of fixtures.

No, I just think they share minutes a lot. Kun tends to come off after 60 minutes if City are winning, because Jesus is better at pressing. But if Jesus were out, Kun could be amazing...

And if Kun is out (which surely is inevitable at spme point) Jesus is outstanding value at 9.5

No one here or anywhere has a clue how Werner will adapt. None of them worth starting with as we don't know if kun is even match fit.

Just wait a few weeks and decide is the obvious thing to do. Let others take the needless risk

    First draft....

    McCarthy, fodder
    TAA, VVD, AWB, Vinagre, fodder
    Willian, KDB, Traore, AMS, Rashford
    Bamford, Kane, Antonio

Feels pretty balanced and allows me to move from a 3-5-2, 4-5-1 and 3-4-3 when fixtures match up

I know there is no Auba, Salah or Mane but I don’t want to play the premium mid roulette and Kane is a steal at 10.5 but obviously need to watch his form and fixtures

    What are your season resolutions?
    Mine:

    1. Don't waste transfers removing premium defenders, just stick with them even if they have a poor run of games
    2. Don't get suckered into buying a Mourinho attacker
    3. Never remove Salah or KDB

Don't agree with #2. Kane could absolutely become a great pick. But the other two I definitely agree with.

Although I'm only getting TAA as premium. I wanna try the rotating 4.5m strategy this season with the players they are offering...

I'm just making it easier for myself based on heuristics from prior seasons. I've always ended up regretting it when buying Mou attackers, either for United or Spurs. Just won't bother, plenty of good options elsewhere even if spurs perform well.

Interesting, as I'm personally looking at this to be the exact season I ignore rotating cheap Def's! So many premium players in midfield that I want my transfers to be used there and not on fixing my underperforming 4.5 def. I'm looking to build my team this season on a solid defence that I can have faith in returning regular pts. There's only 3 or 4 4.5defs that interest me. I'll just take vinagre and ignore the rest til I see more info.

I see so much value this year.

Saliba + Mari for an Arsenal cheap double, Dallas + Ayling are very attacking, Vinagre, Taylor, Thomas at Leicester if Chilwell leaves, Williams when Shaw gets injured again...

I'll take 3 and rotate for 2 slots alongside TAA. Saliba looks such good value that he might just be a set and forget which then leaves a rotation of Ayling, Vinagre/Taylor/Thomas which is more than good enough. That extra money spent in defense goes where? VvD? That's a whole 2.0m more that will significantly hurt my midfield/attack.

    5. Stats Don\'t Lie
      • 9 Years

      1. I agree with
      2. probably also, apart from Kane's customary end of season run
      3. I agree on the KDB front more than Salah front. KDB more consistent, Salah goes missing in big games.

Of my own thoughts for the new season, my number 1 rule will be PATIENCE and trusting my instincts, too many times I sold players only for them to go on and haul. Gonna try to remind myself of why I got a player in the first place and what's changed that's making me want to sell, if it's just a case of bad luck and they're still posting good stats then a haul is likely imminent.

This happened to me with the captaincy as well. Bruno was my highest scoring player since he came in, but I capped him for two of his blanks, then didn't cap him for most of his hauls... Because the blanks scared me off, and I forgot why I had capped him in the first place

Perfectly summed up when he had 3 points as my captain, then 15 points twice in a row right after while not being my captain

Kane finished last season like the 12.5m player he was in 17/18 & 18/19 and I reckon he's been pitched in quite nicely at 10.5m. Apart from Auba, the most sought after mids come in team pairs (KDB/Sterling, Salah/Mane, Bruno/Rashford) and if you're like me you'll be on the wrong one when the other one hauls. You don't get that with Kane (I'm not forgetting about Son) and I'm thinking he's the safe captaincy option to start off with when everyone else is absolutely packing their midfield.

        Yep.

And it's also important to remember that teams on FFS are not representative of teams in general. The pool of players on here is usually smaller and in most cases, managers tend to copy each other. Once Mark reveals his team, a lot of thought will shift towards his approach too.

Spurs will have to endure a looong campaign because of Europe.
Also Mou tends to shut down the shop one's game is in the bag. If anyone from them i Guess Lloris is a very good option.

The question on everyone's lips is... Why is Holgate priced at 5.0 m? i.e. The same as United, Wolves, Sheff U defenders.

    Is there something I've missed?

There are some players that are not worth 5.0m but also worth more than 4.5m.

FPL typically prices them up when in doubt. Holgate looks a sure starter and at 4.5m he'd be underpriced but compared to other options at 5.0m, he's not a good deal.

It should even out over the season because if Everton sign a great keeper and Ancelotti tightens up their defense significantly, Holgate at 4.8m suddenly starts to look good.

He and ziyech are very tempting but I don’t feel I’d lose out on much if I wait to transfer them in. Prefer to sign a Gw1 team that I have a bit of prior year data on

Ziyech will take more time to settle IMO, he's going to get fouled a lot and might not respond too well to that.

Werner will likely be a Vardy type player, captain Vs City , bench Vs Burnley.

Obviously there are examples, it’s just hard to predict how a new player in a new team in a new league is going to pan out. Not saying it’s a rule for everyone but it’s how I play the game. It was easy enough to fit Salah/Aguero in once it was evident they were lighting the league up, especially with an early WC.

Problem with playing 1 up top and fodder on the bench, you're a player down for sure if that player doesn't start.

I'd want someone a lot more explosive than Ritchie if playing that formation too. He is a good option when down as a defender but you've lost CS and extra point for goal now, I don't see many points there.

Tried for a bit more balance throughout the side not sold on Adams at all but prefer over Mitrovic, Could always do Pope/KWP > McCarthy/Taylor for an extra 1m somewhere. Fixtures would change a lot like Auba inclusion etc.

          Pope
          TAA - Vinagre - Saliba
          Salah - KdB - Ziyech - Greenwood - Soucek
