I agree. It's starting to look like Martinelli can't be trusted. Gabriel, Saka Jesus perhaps and back to the drawing board I go...

After dropping Martinelli for Jackson I found money gor TAA. Here is my knee jerk draft:

      Onana/4.0
      TAA, Gabriel, Estu(/Saliba), Henry, 4.5
      Saka, Bruno, Rash, Mitoma
      Jackson, Wissa, Haaland

Had to switch Rashford to Bruno and a weak bench of £4m defenders looks risky as well.

Arteta went for an experimental formation and positioning in this Barca friendly. I wouldn't read too much into any performances here.

Trossard was playing as a #9 with Jesus out wide left in Martinelli's spot. Do you think that's Arsenal's default formation this season?

            That's not what i saw.

Jesus was central and Trossard further left but narrower than Saka on the right.

            Saka was instrumental early on.

SofaScore has a heat map that will show you too. Martenelli definitely has competition on the left.

Ødegaard and Saka and Jesus safer bets into the Arsenal attack.

Both Arsenal and Brighton look strong again. Didn't see Chelsea but will watch the highlights later.

I'd agree. Question is how much weight. Arteta has now enough squad depth to change formations from game to game to make defending even more difficult to opponents. More than likely scenario imo.

Just watched highlights of Spuds. First half, their first-choice attack was very poor. Second half the second-string showed up and looked decent. Key was Richarlison replacing Kane. Given that Rich is a Posty-type striker and Kane isn't, it makes a ton of sense to sell Kane for big money and start Rich.

    1. The Knights Template

I watched the Hammers game, Richarlison got a gazillion chances. Straight into mine team. Kane will almost certainly go to Bayern if they stump up the funds. Then I’ll look at the quality of the forward they bring in. If good, they’re straight in too, that team is only interested in attacking and outscoring the opposition, no bus will ever be parked!

I'm seeing in many of these friendlies youth and second-string squad members in the squads of City, United, Arsenal, Brighton and others looking really tasty. I foresee a regular occurrence when our first-choice FPL big names are benched or come off early for fringe players to get their minutes.

Yes, but due to the money swishing around in the PL, these 'fringe' players are incrementally better and better quality. There's less gap between 'A' list players and the squad members, so that if the 'A' list player is 2% off their mojo, they'll get hoiked.

Can't decide if I should start with Trent or not. Is 8M too much?

Without Trent I can still have two 5.5 defenders and a 4.5 bench defender and my midfield could look like this to begin with.

    Saka / Martinelli / Bruno / Rashford / Foden

Only problem is I would have no Pool cover.

    Thanks

I think it is. You need a regular supply of cleansheets and with all the changes in midfield I want to assess first. A few crappy scores on the off and people will be ditching him in droves, and his price will fall. I’ll scout and wait for the fixture swing then assess.

With the cheaper pricing you can get a great midfield and three very decent players up top. Traditionally that third striker spot was always a cheapie. That isn’t the case this season.

True, but if the third striker means sacrificing midfield points it might not balance out.

Then again if they're a regular starter and to state the obvious they play closer to the goal which helps their chances too.

I want Eze from the start also, I need to pick one between Mitoma and Mbuemo, who do you reckon?

I'd go March or Mitoma ahead of Mbeumo.

Unless he's on pens etc. and more involved.

I think Eze is ahead of Mbeumo and was close to the Brighton trio of March, Mitoma and Groß last season.

Shu Ars and Bre to start for eze. I think we will have better time to pounce.
I would say A a few days back but KdB is back. Think foden will get lots of mins?

I think Foden plays more but they'll rotate. He's probably going to get a goal or an assist every 2 games.

Maybe his ceiling is not so high?

He does need to start more matches to be a strong pick.

That's why I've dropped him. When you add in the frequent 1-point sub appearances, I'd prefer the security of starts for Nkunku, maybe Jackson if he turns out to be a regular starter, later even Darwin or Ricarlison if they get regular starts too.

With the number of Brighton forwards I'm wondering who is nailed...I see joao Pedro as an explosive option (also penalty taker) but am in a huge dilemma on whether he will start...any suggestions?

They'll mix it up so he's a punt.

For the 5.5s, my stance is to sacrifice those opening fixtures and wait to see who emerges as close-to nailed, if any. If you must have one for GW1 it's got to be Mitoma.

        Onana
        Estupinan, Shaw, Gabriel
        Foden, Saka, Bruno, Mitoma, Mbeumo
        Haaland (c), Jesus
        Bench: Areola, Nkunku, Henry, Baldock

The issue is I have nkunku for now on the bench as I don't see them smashing Liverpool, but a potential of a huge haul for Pedro against Luton and 2.0 in the bank that can get me nkunku or Jackson later is very hard to ignore...since I don't see Brentford smashing spurs, I thought maybe bench Mbeumo for gw1 and play joao... suggestions?!

I'm benching Chilwell GW1 as I don't see Liverpool NOT scoring, but their defence is shonky, so I'm fine with Nkunku/Jackson in my starting XI.

Joao Pedro - we just don't know if he'll start or how many minutes he'll get in that game.

Same problem. Even thinking about dropping Mitoma for Mbeumo due to all the options Brighton have

Is Nicolas Jackson a real option? Has looked very good in pre-season. I thought the finish against Newcastle last night was absolute worldclass

It’s a nice draft. I prefer Richarlison over Maddison and I won’t be voting for Pedro on this occasion.

Think I need a day away from FPL and potential tinkering after the last round of friendlies. JPedro, Jackson, Richarlison, Steele, potential Arsenal and Brighton rotation, etc. Might rewatch some highlights later, but not looking at my FPL team.

    A) 6.5 midfielder (Almirón)
    B) 5.5 midf + 5.5 forward rotation

dont see Akanji in most draft teams, any reason why?
for me, going without TAA, back 3 look like:

Estu, Gabriel/Saliba, Akanji ( Bell Beyer)

It's a good question. I had him in my early drafts because he seemed relatively nailed to me. I thought with Gvardiol seemingly on the way, Ake's place would be threatened, and Walker looked on his way. But people have put doubt in my mind and I've gone with Stones instead. If Akanji does look secure after all, I'll save the 0.5 and reinstate him.

true that 0.5 goes a long way - Stones, Chilwell etc
Ake latest injury and Walker minutes on pitch, Gvardiol new to EPL - low ownership of Akanji looks tempting.

Don't got the balls to do that!! If Haaland smashes it, you are automatically playing catch up rest of the season....

If you don’t have any balls you have no business playing this game. Too many sheep.

You cannot win this game during first game week or even first game weeks. I remember Fpl focal leading this game when I was close to 1 million, yet after gw 38 he had one digit more in his OR I believe. The difference between being brave or lunatic (or what is the saying(?)) is thin, but this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Just when you think you have the perfect draft, here come Brighton and Chelsea to ruin it all!! Thoughts on the comments below?

    Onana
    Estupinan, Shaw, Gabriel
    Foden, Saka, Bruno, Mitoma, Mbeumo
    Haaland (c), Jesus
    Bench: Areola, Nkunku, Henry, Baldock

First (posted) draft, how's it looking? Keep switching between 352 and 343 but on this at present:

    Pickford
    Stones Gabriel Estupinan
Rashford Bruno Saka Odegaard Richarlison (could be Mitoma and upgrade bench def to 4.5)
Haaland Darwin (could be one of Chelsea fwds)

    Areola Henry Beyer Archer

Darwin told me (secretly) in a dream last night that he had a minor meniscus issue and might miss the first few weeks. Make of that what you will
