Interview with Fantasy Eliteserien expert Jonas Bergh-Johnsen

In our latest video and podcast, Joe chats to TV journalist Jonas Bergh-Johnsen, who has been closely involved with the development of Norway’s top-flight game, Fantasy Eliteserien.

As a football reporter and host for TV channel Discovery Norway and co-host of Fantasy Football podcast, Fantasy FK, he is among a group of experts that Eliteserien Fantasy’s developers have called on for advice.

During his interview with Joe, Jonas explains how he has helped ensure this season’s pricing aims to reflect points potential across all teams and why bargain hunters will have to work even harder this time around.

While Fantasy Eliteserien’s gameplay and interface will be familiar to Fantasy Premier League managers, Jonas discusses the notable differences.

Chief among these is the game’s innovative chips, including the ‘Rich Uncle’ that offers Fantasy managers the chance to deploy a free hit with an unlimited budget.

Another is Fantasy Eliteserien’s use of a ‘man in the stands’ method of choosing bonus. Meanwhile, Norway top-flight calendar means that Double Gameweeks can often arrive early, due to cup commitments and the Scandinavian weather.

His top player picks for the start of the season are also revealed, as is his strategy for dealing with the first Double Gameweek of the season in Round 2.

Jonas also talks about his love of Fantasy Premier League. This season he is currently ranked inside the top 3,000, has two top 500 finishes and a further two in the top 1,500 across his ten-year career.

Whether you are a long time Fantasy Eliteserien player or looking to play for the first time, Jonas offers invaluable advice ahead of this season’s launch on March 30.

        Agreed, it’s whether you go with Laporte or Ederson over him. I do think there are more options in defence than attack however, Chelsea, Man U, CP all have potential for a good return.

      Try thinking of them less as predictions and more as a reflection of past results in similar fixtures. I'm not saying that's what they are, as there are all sorts of data rolled into them from what I understand.

        Yes, I appreciate they are a prediction from an amalgamation of data. I just wondered if anyone regularly compares their prediction with actually score. I think I’ll start doing this, will hopefully aid in algorithm development.

    On a scale of 1-10 how risky is not owning Aguero. looking to triple captain hazard. So wouldn't have been captain. I have sterling and considering Kane instead, i have no chips and planning ahead with Kane V Huddersfield on the horizon. Any thoughts would be much appreciated, cheers.

    I'm hoping aguero has minutes at least slightly restricted.

            That first point debatable given it's the semi final and he may not feel comfortable trusting the fringe players after the Swansea game. If I had to guess I'd say Kun starts the two league games and rests in the cup, but it's far from certain.

              I agree but a man can hope. I just have the guy feeling to go elsewhere than aguero. Slight knock or an early big lead in the second game can result in him maybe taken off. Plus if he leaves Jesus out for a while he may need to get some decent match practice with the team for the cup games

      No TC on Pogba 😉

      I think you have to have Aguero....but having Kane does mean you don’t have to take a hit to bring him in for Huds. If you are chasing go Kane, if trying to hold position go Kun. TC hazard is a gamble, they aren’t clicking at the moment and have struggled against wolves and Everton. Everton have been woeful at the back too.

        F**K pogba atm.

        Hazard is a huge risk and I know not many will follow suit. However, hazard can fire at any point and isn't immune to big hauls. A penalty and an assist with his 2 nice fixtures can be enough for it to work.

        OR 95000, having aguero in my team or captain wouldn't really fire me up those rankings.

          Hazard actually has the highest potential for next week. I don’t think he’s a huge risk to be honest - Kane is however. Having Aguero and captaining Hazard is a good option

          I honestly think Christensen will feature in the game against Brighton. I'm a Chelsea fan and I know he has had only 3 PL starts but I have this nagging doubt. I have owned Luiz since the MCI home game where he scored and am contemplating going Rudiger for the FH. But then I see Luiz not travelling for the friendlies and get more confused.

          I'd stick to your team and bank the 0.2.

      Deulofeu for me, but really not much in it from what I understand. Both seem to have similar threats of rotation.
