Early Double Gameweek set to take place as FPL confirm plans to resume

The news many of us were hoping for finally arrived on Saturday afternoon as Fantasy Premier League confirmed that they will resume in mid-June.

FPL will be back with a bang, too, as the two fixtures originally postponed due to the clash with the Carabao Cup final – and now scheduled to take place on June 17 – will form part of an early Double Gameweek.

Aston Villa, Sheffield United, Manchester City and Arsenal will all have two fixtures in the first post-hiatus Gameweek, then, should all go to plan.

In their statement, FPL announced that “additional multiple Gameweeks” will be created to absorb the remaining 92 matches once the dates and fixture schedule are finalised.

Reiterating what they said a fortnight ago, FPL also confirmed that any chips Fantasy managers still have intact (i.e. Triple Captain, Bench Boost, Free Hit and/or Wildcard) would remain available.

There was nothing in the statement about an additional Wildcard or unlimited transfers being granted before what will presumably be called Gameweek 39, nor was there any indication of whether transfers rolled over from Gameweek 38 will still be valid.

Further correspondence from FPL will follow, with the site itself still in a state of limbo at the time of writing.

Today’s full statement reads as follows:

Premier League Shareholders this week agreed to a new provisional restart date for the 2019/20 season of Wednesday 17 June, provided that all safety requirements are in place.

The health and welfare of all participants are our priority.

We would like to offer an update to Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers wondering what this means for their teams.

Once a date is confirmed and the remaining fixtures have been announced, our plan is to resume FPL with additional multiple Gameweeks created to reflect the remaining 92 fixtures.

Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal, postponed due to the Carabao Cup final, are scheduled to take place on 17 June, two days before a full match round commences on 19 June.

These two fixtures and the full match round that follows would constitute the first full Gameweek.

We would like to remind managers that any chips you retain at present (i.e. Triple Captain, Bench Boost, Free Hit and/or Wildcard) would remain available for you, in accordance with the Game Rules, for these Gameweeks.

We thank FPL managers for their continued patience and will provide you further updates on the game when appropriate.

If this is probably the only DGW of the season, how does a FH sound like and loading up with Auba, Kun, KDB, Laporte, Tripple Shef defenders and Grealish?

Or is that already an old plan?

May as well as unlikely to be any more DGWs and with games coming thick and fast rotation is going to bite.

      I interpret FPL statement ..
"FPL announced that “additional multiple Gameweeks” will be created to absorb the remaining 92 matches once the dates and fixture schedule are finalised."
.. as there will be more double game weeks, so I don't think this will be the only one..
I'll be saving my chips for bigger DGWs.

        • 5 Years

I cannot get my head around the phrasing.

additional multiple gameweeks would almost certainly mean extra DGWs.

multiple additional gameweeks would mean a bunch of extra 'normal' single game weeks.

I think you're reading too much into it. Don't see any reason for any more double game weeks. Anyway, they'll tell us after the fixtures are announced if there are. They would annoy a lot of people if they snuck in a complete DGW for all teams.

I'm not wasting any chips for GW39 as there will almost certainly be other DGWs. FA Cup has to be factored in and considering how prevalent the virus is still (more deaths in UK yesterday than all of Western Europe combined) some players will surely test positive at some point leading to postponements. Just like the Bundesliga had one the first week.

    Leno, Pope
    TAA, Maguire, Lundstram, Egan, Hanley
    Salah, KDB, Grealish, 5.3m, Hayden
    Aubameyang, Jesus, Jimenez

The mid would be Gundogan, Foden or Fleck.

    real FPL...

for those with FH and WC left, assuming first week is DGW, is FH the best option then use WC moving forward depending how the team is setup for the next run of fixtures?

there is still over 25% of the season remaining, this is not a simple smash and grab many are thinking

I guess until the fixtures are confirmed we can't get more detail but it's really hard to plan until then. Plus it would be unfair to provide an additional Wild Card. The players who have saved their 2nd WC, BB and Triple captain need to be able to retain the advantages of having kept them as they are probably trailing in mini leagues due to not having used them and had planned to use them to catch up.

But it is fair to have the ability to revamp your team after a 3 month hiatus no one knew was going to happen and the sports rules have changed which will impact fpl greatly and the fixtures are all closer together which will impact fpl greatly. When you win your league with this new info in your pocket, you can put a nice fat asterix right next to it bud 😉

See what you mean, but how can it be fair for people saving their wildcard not to have a meaningful chance to use it if everyone else has one with just a few weeks to go! I had used free hit and triple captain, should I get those back?!? Anyway, not being involved in any cash games, it's all good fun to have it back again. It's only a game after all.

        1. MYNAMEISBigtopmark.sman
          • 6 Years

Agree bro. It's not fair either way. I am happy with no wildcard and I dont think you should get your chips back although especially if you didn't play both the week the game stopped. Which is impossible. Did you play either of them then? You didn't bring an unaffected trip cap and free hit into this discussion did you? I hope not. Some people lost trip cap in gw 29 and the double didn't happen. That is unfair. But no they should not get it back. I am just over these wildcard holders who think they deserve the world because they so cleverly held the most powerful chip for the well tested best strategy and now receive an unprecedented boost but dont even bat an eyelid and say as you were. It is a different game with different rules and the points variables will be higher than ever. Thousands wont keep playing and I dont blame them. You cant change the rules mid game and expect everyone to stay around the table. Of course those who benefit will stay and smugly smile at each other and say we are better than those losers.

I think I'm definitely going to be using my FH first week back. It's a small DGW so would require special attention to only four teams. Whereas if I think more DGWs are to be added for whatever reason, they would likely involve more than just four teams, which is much easier to prepare for without tearing apart my squad.

Wow! having only looked at VFPL recently (great appearance off the bench by Vinagre for me yesterday), I had no recollection at all of where I was in real thing, how many chips, or what team I'd got. Discovered at 200k, wild card and bench boost left, and what looks a great team of
Patricio; TAA, Robbo, Lundstram,(Lascelles, Stevens(Sot); Salah, KDB, Perez,Barnes(Traore); Auba, Jimi, Ings and 1.3 itb. I expect its template, but all to play for!
Still a bit wary it won't happen seeing overpacked beaches yesterday, but now going to have to think tactics. Also need to think respectfully of any FPL players who have passed away from the terrible COVID 19 during this time.
