The Community Round Up

The ascent of Manchester United’s Anthony Martial was amongst the top issues discussed in both our community articles and hot topics this week. Our regular community scribes were also on hand to share their crystal ball gazing skills regarding clean sheets and goal prospects. While elsewhere in our discussions, the hot topics included Watford’s budget striker, the West Brom defence and film-going Fantasy Football style. It was an epic week for table constructing in the Members area and also a week to remember for those riding high in our Community leagues.

The Community Articles

Anthony Martial has taken Fantasy Football by storm with three goals in two Premier League appearances. But Diva has taken a closer look at his shooting statistics and medium term fixture list and is urging caution.

Rodellegabomb also includes the French youngster in his round of the week’s best bandwagons.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s rearguard are among those set to keep a clean sheet, according to The Sarjeant’s latest Team Form Focus.

There was further crystal ball gazing, with a little help from the bookmakers, in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the bookies say article. You can also see his round up of Gameweek 6’s predictions here.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With 0.3m worth of price rises in a single week, the Martial love affair has dominated much of the community’s discussions this week. According to Pug Life and others who took part in our discussion on the Manchester United new boy, his strengths as a striker should come as no surprise to those who follow French football.

There was further talk about Martial in TreatYoSelf’s look at price rise chasing and Siva Mohan’s discussion on the best replacement for the injured Christian Benteke also saw the Frenchman’s fans out in full force.

Could Watford’s Odion Ighalo offer a cut price alternative to Martial? Demi is certainly tempted by the Nigerian international. Heels Over Head also provided some excellent statistics to strengthen Ighalo’s case for inclusion.

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle, who, like Martial, also scored a brace in Gameweek 6, is another potential target. But, why are so many ignoring the striker, pondered Jaffalicious.

For those looking to broaden their search for a striker even further, Eden Hazardous’ discussion on the community’s dream front eight provides plenty of other contenders.

Chelsea’s stars are also attracting attention, after a marked improvement in their performance against Arsenal in Gameweek 6. With Diego Costa banned for three matches, Eden Hazard comes into contention as a key asset now and Beavis was on hand to show us how the midfielder has fared when Costa has previously been absent.

While Martial’s price rises have been in the ascendency GunsnRoses has been looking into the mysterious case of Pedro and his lack of price rises, despite earning similar transfers when he first joined the Premier League.

For those looking for a less exciting transfer this week Innsie sparked this discussion on whether to draft in Craig Dawson or Johnny Evans in the search for some reliable Tony Pulis influenced clean sheets at West Brom.

Thanks to the Beavis’s discussion about the Scoutcast we were able to implement a couple of key changes to the format this week, most notably making our Rough with the Smooth round up of your good and bad weeks a little smoother on your ears. For those who want to read the rough cut version click here.

It is not just Martial that the community has attracted praise. There was plenty of accolades being dished out in Athletico Timbo’s discussion on the community’s best Fantasy managers, many of whom turned out to answer Optimus’s plea for some cringe-worthy Fantasy Football based movie quote puns.

The Members Tables

There was a raft of top table posted by the community this week with Venicebean hoping to find the complete player, while in contrast Doosra has been looking at which players have been firing blanks. Giggs Boson’s look at CBI, alegendj’s examination of goalkeepers and defenders via team defensive statistics were among other recent highlights.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 38, which saw 165 players depart and 2,160 remain.

HVT, Rodellegabomb and Daniel Levy are among the early front runners following the first round of of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament. Full results and group standings can be found here.

The first instalment of results for the qualifying round for Balders Community Grand Play Offs competition put Somewhat Pleasing in poll position to grab one of its 256 places.

Andy marches on at the summit of the FFS Moderators and Contributors league and now has a commanding 38-point lead over Applebonkers in second.

Meanwhile in the Puffinboy Memorial Cup, for the site’s oldest regulars, Back on the horse has taken top spot.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Of those 3, Haz most likely.

Although, on paper, easiest game would be Payet (v Nor). I think Nor has conceded at leat 3 goals in their last few away games

      (C) Martial over Kun, just becoz i have been burned by Kun 5 out of 6 GWs.

Although as 1 commenter on the previous page said that all the signs are there for a massive Martial let-down: 3 price rises, 3 goals from 4 shots etc, MU overwhelming favorites v SUN, possible upset on the cards etc

I've moved Silva on for a hit. Less about Cathcart (in this case), just too expensive to have on the bench and no guarantee he'll be back for the great upcoming fixtures. Plus KDB looks an excellent replacement, or haz/pedro if you go the chelsea route

75% include many inactive players. He's talk of the town but that's not the main priority it is his form which is worrying

I'm playing Richards over Williams, anyone think it should be the other way around? if so, why?

Personally I think Liverpool are weak and not a sure bet to score and beyond that Richards is in the top 5 for penalty area touches among defenders.

On the flip side Swansea is playing the side with top 4 chance creation who have the striker with the most shots in the league and a winger in form.

I have both and I'll have to play one as a starting sub as Silva is injured. But both are BAPS magnets and yes, even as a fan, I can see Liverpool struggling to score if, if Villa play defensive/park the bus.

It's a really tough call Sinik but I think you may be right. Don't see another 0-0 for Swansea and Pool have struggled to score all season. BOU, WHU, the midweek game vs Carlisle.

I hope it doesn't blow up in your face.

Not to instill doubt because you seem excited but:
          - 2nd fewest goals conceded
          - modest attempts conceded

Spurs look good defensively and now have Dier marshaling the center of the park who will nullify Yaya IMO and a solid CB in Alderweireld...

    Sanchez (c)

Even a blind goat will eventually score with so many shots on goal, and Sanchez is not a blind goat.

Flawless logic - once you selected captains based on animal analogy you know you have a problem

As people routinely do on this site, I feel like they are way overstating what the City-Spurs game will be like.

I think Spurs are a much better defensive unit than West Ham with a much better keeper, an improved back line with Alderweireld and a decent DM in Dier to marshall the mid.

Couple that with the return of Eriksen and Kane yet to hit true form and it seems like a perfect storm for an upset.

Fair enough, I hope you can make it pay. I like both Eriksen and Kane but couldn't touch them at the moment with fixtures (and form in Kane's case). Agree about Lloris, his save against Palace was stunning.
I don't agree on Dier, I think he and Ali are playing really well but are still learning that DM role and the class 3 behind Aguero will get in and behind them, exposing Vert and Toby much more than they have been. I also think Spurs will try and play as they're at home, which will suit City just fine.

I think City will struggle more without Silva. They are highly reliant on him and look a weaker team in position without him, more frantic.

I also wouldn't touch a Spurs player for Fantasy right now anyhow haha

    Credits - https://whichtransfer.wordpress.com/2015/03/18/the-enemy-in-the-mirror/

There is now plenty of evidence that the template leaders Aguero and Sanchez are now no longer worth the money they cost or the captains armband. So why are we not removing them? Many will point to the finances being generous this season so we don’t need to remove them. Lets see if there maybe other, more obscure reasons

Are we being held back by fear, or common sense? It’s a tricky one. Lets take a look at possible biases that may be present from a psychological point of view (my pet topic). All based on the enemy in the mirror, lets see if any of these biases are holding us back. Do you recognise any of these in yourselves?

Ambiguity bias We all prefer the familiar to the unfamiliar. Aguero and Sanchez are a kind of comfort blanket

Anchoring bias We have built our teams around Aguero We have him so we are holding come what may, we under react to new information that he is simply not worth the money. We brush over the fact Sanchez is now just one of many in Arsenals midfield.

Communal reinforcement You want to make changes but the repeated assertions by members of the online community that it is too risky, put you off. Thus maintaining the status quo, even though there is clear evidence of declining returns

Endowment effect This is where when you own something you put a higher value on it than others would. You see this all the time in those antique shows, where the seller is emotionally attached to an item. Those who have never owned Sanchez this season probably wonder what all the fuss is about. While us owners still have an emotional attachment to what he did for us earlier in the season, and give him more respect than he deserves

Halo effect They both have been given great status in fantasy terms, making it difficult to form a more realistic view

Herding Everyone else still has them so i am keeping, it’s too hard to make an independent decision to remove them

Selective thinking We choose to ignore the negative evidence like Aguero out of form , low on confidence , missing penalties, Sanchez playing wide, playing second fiddle to Giroud , instead we think, well at least Aguero is on penalties, they must both score soon

Those are just a few of the potential barriers that our minds put up. Hence the enemy in the mirror title. However there are one or two biases that work the other way, which might actually be helpful

Over reaction You could argue this entire post is one big over reaction. Aguero is the best striker in the league, and just because he hasn’t scored for a couple of weeks im panicking over nothing. Same with Sanchez (although im really not convinced by him anymore) He is class and will come good soon

Whatever you decide to do with them , however it turns out, remember this last bias i am about to give you, because we are all guilty of it

Self Attribution People attribute succesful outcomes to their own skill but blame unsuccessful outcomes on bad luck, all too common on the fantasy forums. None of us can predict the future, so be humble when you have a good week and keep your chin up when its a bad one.
