Kane and Son’s remarkable runs of Fantasy form continue

Our final write-up of the Premier League matches contested on New Year’s Day recaps the events at the Cardiff City Stadium, where Spurs bounced back to winning ways with a comfortable victory.

As usual, we cover the main Fantasy talking points, manager quotes and injury news from the fixture in question.

Cardiff City 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur

  • Goals: Harry Kane (£12.6m), Christian Eriksen (£9.3m), Son Heung-min (£8.8m)
  • Assists: Son Heung-min, Harry Kane

After hinting that fatigue was an issue in the Gameweek 20 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers and suggesting Spurs would make changes (plural) for the trip to Cardiff City, Mauricio Pochettino hoodwinked us Fantasy managers by making only one alteration to his starting XI for the New Year’s Day encounter in South Wales.

Even that change was a fairly unremarkable one, with Danny Rose (£5.8m) replacing Ben Davies (£5.6m) as the Spurs boss continued with his rotation policy in the left-back position.

That meant that Harry Kane (£12.6m) and Son Heung-min (£9.3m) again started in the Spurs attack, as they had done for the three other league fixtures over Christmas, with Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) and Dele Alli (£8.9m) lining up in the midfield diamond that Pochettino has come to favour in recent months.

The Lilywhites showed little sign of the heavy legs that had been evident in the defeat to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on Saturday as they killed this contest within 25 minutes, a three-goal blitz sapping the life out of a Cardiff team that had registered back-to-back clean sheets in the two preceding Gameweeks.

Pochettino said of his side’s efforts:

We felt disappointed [after the defeat to Wolves] and we wanted to show our energy from the beginning. After 20 minutes we showed how we wanted to play and were clinical.

We suffered with four games in 10 days. I want to congratulate the players. I’m so pleased with the effort. Today we showed great energy and maturity that we want.

It’s a crazy fixture [schedule] – it’s normal that in some games we can drop our mental energy. We were so relaxed and kept calm, it was so important. We showed Wolves was just an accident.

Pochettino also backtracked somewhat from his comments about falling energy levels at Wembley:

When you assess the game against Wolves it was completely unfair. I think we played much, much better than Wolves but I think we dropped in our concentration in the last 20 minutes and we conceded three goals.

When you see the data that we ran more than them, you say no, it wasn’t a problem that we were tired, just a concentration problem. A little bit about discipline, offensive and defensive.

It’s terrible when a team like us didn’t get a shot on target in the second half, because we showed a lack of discipline, in both ways. Today so pleased because from the beginning the team showed massive energy. I think that is the team we want and expect to see and perform on the pitch.

A fortunate goal from Kane (the ball cannoning in off his knee after an attempted clearance by Sean Morrison (£4.7m)) was followed by two fine strikes from Eriksen and Son, with Spurs’ front two also registering assists for their part in the Lilywhites’ second and third goals.

Kane and Son are in a remarkable run of form in Fantasy Premier League, with the Korean in particular making a mockery of the rotation concerns that many of us had for the Spurs midfield over this hectic Christmas period: since the resumption of play after the November international break, Son has started all bar one of his side’s nine Premier League matches.

Son will be available for the Manchester United clash in Gameweek 22 before departing for the Asian Cup and will only miss a maximum of three Premier League fixtures thereafter, returning for the home match against Leicester City on February 10 (possibly sooner, if South Korea are eliminated any time before the final).

Son has four double-digit hauls to his name in his last five league starts and no Premier League player has been involved in more goals (15 – eight goals, seven assists) in the last 11 Gameweeks.

Kane meanwhile has banked attacking returns in each of his last ten Premier League starts, a run that has seen him score on nine occasions and assist a further five goals.

It has to be said that this latest victory wasn’t an exhilarating Spurs attacking display – nor did it have to be.

The visitors scored with each of their first three attempts on goal and had only registered four efforts in total by the hour-mark, which came off the back of a shot-shy second half against Wolves three days earlier.

Spurs would likely have pressed forward with more verve had they not been 3-0 up so early on, of course, and they at least showed a bit of attacking intent in the final half an hour as Cardiff wilted.

Kane should have added to his haul in the last 30 minutes, curling a couple of efforts over and being denied by Neil Etheridge (£4.5m) when clean through on goal as the clock ticked down.

Son also had a shot saved by the Cardiff custodian having earlier fired over the bar, while Alli should probably have scored with his only attempt on goal in an 86-minute showing but had his effort blocked after dallying on the ball.

The former MK Dons prospect was at least brighter than he had been against Wolves as the tip of the midfield diamond, registering more penalty box touches and touches in the final third than any other player on show at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Eriksen oozed class in a slightly more withdrawn role and his own Fantasy contributions have been somewhat lost amid Son and Kane’s recent form: the Dane has banked a goal and/or assist in six of his last seven Premier League starts and also scored off the bench in the Gameweek 17 victory over Burnley.

Interest in Eriksen may indeed increase in FPL circles once Son departs for the United Arab Emirates.

Cardiff have largely held their own against mid-table/relegation fodder this season and only three clubs outside the “big six” have kept more clean sheets than the Bluebirds (five) in 2018/19.

City’s record against those top half-dozen teams is poor, however, with seven defeats from seven since promotion. No Premier League outfit has shipped more goals (25) in meetings with Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs in 2018/19.

The good news for the Welsh side and owners of their defensive assets is that they only meet the Gunners from the “big six” in the next ten Gameweeks. Neil Warnock’s troops have, in fact, only conceded 16 goals in 14 matches against sides ranked seventh or below.

Warnock rather nobly didn’t use fatigue as mitigation for his side’s latest capitulation to a title-chasing club:

I don’t think it was a game too far, I just thought we shot ourselves in the foot.

Without going into individuals, I was disappointed with two or three players today. We were let down badly today by (them) not doing their roles and I’m disappointed.

But I’m afraid we’re going to get days like that. We’re going to get punished.

I could easily say ‘it’s a game too far’ and all that but the goals make you tired, they give the opposition a lift and you’re chasing shadows. I think they were just too good for us, to be honest.

The 2.8% of FPL managers who own Victor Camarasa (£4.6m) would have been slightly concerned to see their budget midfielder withdrawn before the hour-mark, but Warnock said the problem wasn’t a serious injury:

We said if another goal goes in, we’ll take Victor off. I don’t think he’s ever played three games in that space of time if I’m honest.

We wanted to make sure he was okay, it wasn’t too bad. He was tired.

I think Sol [Bamba] is just bruised.

Cardiff could only muster five attempts on goal all game, with a saved Aron Gunnarsson (£4.4m) header and a Junior Hoilett (£5.0m) cross-shot that briefly threatened to creep under the bar about as good as it got for the limited Bluebirds in attack.

Callum Paterson (£5.1m) dropped back to a wide midfield role after his recent spell up front, meanwhile.

Cardiff City XI (4-4-1-1): Etheridge; Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Cunningham; Paterson, Gunnarsson, Arter, Murphy (Hoilett 46′); Camarasa (Ralls 59′); Reid (Mendez-Laing 72′).

Tottenham Hotspur XI (4-4-2 diamond): Lloris; Trippier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Rose; Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Alli (Llorente 86′); Son (Skipp 76′), Kane.

    Fabianski / Hamer
    Robertson / Digne / Doherty / Kolasinac / AWB
    Hazard / Son / Pogba / Martial / Camarasa
    Kane / Aubameyang / Ings

    A) Son / Aubameyang >> Salah / Jimenez
    B) Kolasinac >> TAA

2 FTs. Which would you prefer this week?

The Abraham talks put me off of A a little, but Jiminez is not really going to get dropped, right?
Son/Aubameyang also have an alright fixture... but everyone and their dog will have Salah (C) next week.

B is a 'safe' move and at least gives an extra week to think about A.

Potentially higher I think. Goals are more likely to go through him rather than be shared with Son. The only concern I have as a Kane owner is if Moura gets a lot of gametime as that seems to push Kane further back. If this happens, might sell him and use the money to bring in Salah and then buy Son when he is back

In some ways, unsubstantiated rumours are less of a deal right now than pre-deadline when people might act on it - but basically links are needed if you're going to claim someone is ill, hurt, or not playing.

If you actually have a source you should write something substantial, otherwise it'll be deleted. This has to be the standard process because too many people post fake news and info or fake insider information.

If you legitimately have a source you should email me and we can discuss it on a case by case basis, and I could instruct the team not to take it down

Dislike this kind of censorship. It is up to the grown men and women reading the comments if they act upon the news they read here if no link is provided. There have been several cases where people have claimed something from an inside source and people doubted it and then it was the case. Powell last year is a good example.

Disagree. The sheer amount of scaremongering and “joke” posts leads to dozens, if not hundresmds of unnecessary questions clogging up the site, making it all a bore.

As opposed to RMT posts or "shall I bring in X or Y?" with X and Y being the flavours of the week? It is a forum with hundreds, maybe 1000s, of people on it. There will always be rubbish posted on here. Nobody has to reply to unnecessary questions and most people skim over my posts anyway until they find one that interests them or they feel they can answer.

        Very valid point.

        It’s a tough one though.

I remember the other week for pool v Bournemouth lunch time kickoff they said on bloody soccer AM that Wilson wouldn’t play. Jamie redknapp confirmed it. This was pre deadline and there were people slagging me off begging for a source.

Wilson benched. Amazing source. Abuse received.

Yeah, that was valid! But there's no way for users to differentiate between what you post that's true and what others do about players that isn't true. We have to have a standard and linking some kind of fairly valid source is a good start.

Again, if the source is secret but legitimate that can be dealt with on a case by case basis

In the case of a print newspaper (if there really isn't an online alternative) or seeing something on live TV, so long as you saywhere it came from, I don't think they should be deleted, personally, because a source has been given.

However, people saying it's from MEN website or Twitter without providing a link are being unhelpful. If they intended to be helpful by posting the information, they can be helpful by providing a link. Otherwise, delete post. Try again.

Unfortunately that's how it's going to be for now and that kind of censorship will continue.

There are far too many users posting things trying to mislead others, and unless that stops our removal of posts will continue.

But again, it is up to other users if they choose to act upon the information or not - life is full of misinformation and people choose to act upon it or not. Who, when in a situation like Powell last year or Flapjack's example above, is going to bother emailing you to get into a potentially multi-email discussion about whether they can post something or not. So much effort.

Which is why, sadly, they have to be deleted. For every Powell who had a legitimate source there are 2-3 fake news posters. For other users, it's impossible to use judgement or common sense to ascertain whether something is genuine because we literally have no information to process other than the poster's word.

But that is life! You're faced with decisions everyday from potentially incomplete or dubious sources and yet navigate your day-to-day, presumably, well enough. I can understand the argument against the cascade but I think this happens anyway even with sourced information as I replied to Legendary below.

The main issue is that one unsourced comment causes a cascade of follow-up comments, all wanting an update of Player X's status.

That in-turn, leads to more people seeing people asking said questions, and subsequently wondering/asking themselves.

Even a comment with a BS source is better, since then we can judge the source for ourselves. Tricker when it's a random person asking something out of the blue, and does not respond to requests for sources.

Sometimes these people are legitimately asking, but to do so surely you must have heard something somewhere, right?

I think the cascade is the bigger problem. Someone posts a rumor (without or without source) at say a few hours before deadline (or before lineups are released). Many folks are not on FFS constantly to keep up with the posts and almost every page will have a reference to the rumor (eg "since Player X is out, who should i play or bench). Then the new people to the post then ask is Player X out and the cascade continues.

My personal solution to this has been to stay away from FFS at those kind of times (I admit i am not able to always do this) - my staying away at times like this actually cost me my H2H matchup 2 seasons ago when King was out of the final game (posted on his personal IG i think or was a confirmed source) but i had no idea and i lost my matchup by 1 point - if i knew i would have brought in Stanislas who scored a PK and would have won me my match

And there's no way of stopping it. Unless a post contains a word that gets caught in the filter it will appear on the feed and be seen by others causing the waterfall effect.

Active mids who could provide a sticky or HT on the issue and update the issue as information comes in would be useful. Directing people to HT so they don't have to traul through the pages looking for the sources and asking over and over would calm the storm I think. And the HT could simply state, as objectively as possible, where the rumour came from, and perhaps interperate in a senible way, how legitimate the source is and whether we should be informed.

May seem like a bit much, but I think there would be value in that, as a user. Would save time and panic.

And how many users are going to be bothered to look at a hot topic when they can just write a post? Would bet the majority who post here wouldn't be able to find a sticky either.

Yeah Sticky is a bad idea. Trying to find a way to do it using the current site mechanics, and HT would be the best and only way. I think it would be highly valuable, and could become the first place you look when logging onto the site pre-game. Lineups and rumour breakdowns. It could legitimately help us stay up to date, since there are some genuine ITK information I can miss out on, even when I am present and scrolling through the comments.

I'm not saying it'll solve the problem outright, but could be one useful approach.

                    Yeah, HT could work.

I also keep recommending people switch to sort comments by Rating instead of Date.

Although I go through more than that for modding purposes, by Rating really does filter more interesting and useful comments to the top

I do that to find the lineups, but if you post a reply or refresh, it reverts back to sorted by date (if that's you're default). It makes sense, but it's not very handy.

I notice that if you set your default to rating, the issue that it would take you to the final page when you comment/refresh (or something like that) has been fixed. Wasn't aware until I just tested it. So that's great. I might try out rating as a default again now 🙂

Yeah, unfortunately both sorting options have slight issues; but Sort by Rating has improved and I think it's a nice way forward. It's my preferred way to view the site right when I login. Since I need to have eyes on lots of comments I switch back and forth but Rating is a good way to avoid certain types of posts.

I've said it before but Rating will take some user buy in for it to work optimally. That said, it would just take a few good posters to buy in for the tide to turn, or at least for it to work really well for them. If thoughtful posters are focusing their time on the high rated comments that will snowball and the discussions should build up naturally

Fair point but this happens even with sourced information. If I posted a sourced piece of information on a morning article and you don't log on until the afternoon on your lunch or commute home, you will see people mentioning "X is ill" "Y didn't get on the team bus" etc. and ask questions without knowing what the source is, who posted it or when. Perhaps a special "tab" like the Hot Topics one for rumours would be a good solution to this. I dislike censorship and think it will make this vibrant online community stale.

I agree with this regarding most other issues, but not misinformation about PL players and teams, since the selling point of thsi website is to inform us and raise our FPL game. You're actively harming other FPL managers, and causing them to invest a lot more time decoding information, and doing unnecessary research into rumours be fueling those fires. Censorship is fair enough imo.

The only exception is when it's a joke. And that's a grey area that will be hard to deal with, I'm sure, since it's subjective whether something is a obvious joke and should remain on the boards. The obvious solution is to delete fake news jokes as well, but who wants to live in a world with no jokes? Tricky

Maybe a few minutes before the official release, Zladan. Same as fake player news, but in a different format. Not everyone who visits the site is aware that the lineups are due at a specific upcoming minute, and lineups can be used to troll as much as fake infury news.

With respect, Geoff, you might start with the FFS "team news".

It seems to have become some unspecified person's guesswork. Whereas there should be a clue in the word "news".

For example, the Arsenal team was recently specified as being without Aubameyang for no better reason than "he seemed to have played a lot recently". It needs to be better than that. To post a team without the league's top scorer you'd need some evidence that was likely to happen. Don't you think?

As for the fake news posts, they are tiresome but I ignore them. There is always google if you need to check.

I believe Neale (Skronto Rigga) does the Team News, based on his comment(s) on the Youtube Press Conference videos. Probably a bit of co-operation with others when he has to make a difficult call.

I suppose some transparency about how it is comprised and what it's supposed to represent would be good, but I don't think he needs to provide evidence that players can be rotated. It has to be an opinion, since teams are often in flux rather than settled. Perhaps the descriptions should just make it clearer when he is taking liberties, like with the Aubameyang prediction, since it's reasonable to predict the rotation, but there's little hard evidence to support it.

Predicting the XI means bringing together so many factors, especially during a busy period of games, that the brain obviously has to filter the information with some bias to interpret the information and make a prediction. So long as the hard evidence from the press conferences are there, I'm happy to take the actual predicted XI with a pinch of salt.

Sure, but you err on the side of caution in that case.

The team news was brilliant when Demi used to do it. Time and again he predicted changes that weren't obvious and was proven right. That's because he had a network of ITK people that used to come on here and tell him stuff, or email it to him.

But that was back in the day when FFS was a co-operative enterprise and people paid subs just to support the site. There were a whole host of unpaid contributors producing great material then. But as FFS became an increasingly commercial enterprise it did not reward those that had supported it for nothing by now paying them for their work. Instead it employed a bunch of people that had never been seen on here when the site was smaller.

For example, Jarvish did great stuff with fixture and DGW analysis season after season. But when FFS wanted a DGW/Fixture "Expert" to write articles they paid Crellin because he had a twitter profile and a pretty spreadsheet (never mind him being a rubbish FPL manager). Or look at how Smarty Pants (another long-time FFS contributor and poster) developed FPL Discovery and made it available free for years, only to have Loblolly (or whatever his name is) steal all the ideas and get employed by FFS to provide related content.

Or this FPL General guy, employed to write a column based on his expertise and track record (and twitter profile, of course). Well there are plenty of very good FPL managers with very good track records that posted here before FPL went mainstream, when no-one else cared and no-one got paid. Why not one of them? Or Mr Munday, employed because he's a journalist and Jonty likes journalists. Kind of fits with the slick FFS image, no? And maybe his 'professionalism' suits better for the FPL show. But he writes all these articles based on no track record at all worth mentioning. Although I have to admit that he does the Captain Sensible analysis very well..

I could go on but that's enough. I can only be wistful about the direction of travel that has been chosen and the way that FFS has turned its back on many of those that made it special. As a result of which, most of them don't post here any more. And as a result of which, the level of dialogue and exchange in the FFS forum has reached an all-time low. I mean, seriously, it is the pits now, by and large. Nothing like what it was 5 years ago. Once upon a time the fake news would have been dealt with by other posters. Now, for many posters it is all fair game. Because they don't really care about FFS at all, it's just another social media to them. 🙁

The site seems to be more of a stepping stone for giving distinctly average players a route to a YouTube channel , a chance to rip off poor brainwashed newbies with their patrient sites and even ' fame' by appearing on FPL shows. It's all about commercial marketing now. No loyalty , only ££ signs. This comes with the rise of social media. Everyone wants a piece and everyone is leeching cash out of the weak minded.

Oh and the likes of Jay Egghead, Crellin can stick their patrient sites and their fancy colour coded spreadsheet's where the sun don't shine. The game is a circus

            Hi Ruth,

I just wanted to comment quickly regarding your comments about me. I am not someone who is suddenly coming form outside the community, I have been a member here for 9 years, I have been passionatey part of FFS community since nobody knew what the game was. I also come from Egypt which had little to zero interest in the game until Salah joined, but since I am very dedicated to the game since the beginning, I have been learning English and participating in FFS. I have witnessed all the great contributions you described and I certainly admire them all.

As years passed and I became extremely experienced in programming and statistics, I started last year looking at FPL from a different perspective, programming wise. I contributed last season a lot through community articles and comments here, filling holes that were not answered anywhere else. Questions like the use of free hit in gw31 vs 35, how managers are likely to deal with the blanks, I even built predictive algorithms to tell people whether they should hold their chips or not relative to the dynamics in the top 10k. Another gap I volunteered to work on is getting exact live rank updates, also posted frequently last season here exact rank calculations and got feedback from the community. Through all this voluntary work, which took a huge amount of time, members of the community were recommending that Mark would hire me for the type of analysis I do. I had no intention at all for anything but helping the community I have been part of for years.
So I didn't come out of nowhere, I don't have a twitter account, I only have my programming and passion. You can't just say I came in and stole ideas and voila, I became part of the commercial cycle, because, one, I am offering so many things that nobody was doing before (exact rank updates, exact live autosub information, wildcard/free hit templates, ownership combinations, comparisons with the past and predictive models for chip usages, help with leagues like last man standing etc) beyond the usual stats (hopefully when blanks and doubles approach, much deeper analysis will be provided). And, two, I am part of this community, and have been promoted and supported by the community.

I have nothing but respect to everyone in the community, and specifically to SmartyPants, and I am willing to step back if that's going to help, because I only want to help the community, the enormous amount of hours I put into writing code and articles, if I put them into work for some company or into pursuing some specific things related to my actual career, I would easily earn a fortune. So trust me, I am not into all of this for the money, I have been doing part time jobs in the past that pay ALOT per hour and I sorta gave them up to be able to build a platform for the community to enjoy the game more, for free, plus a very very minor pay from FFS (that I actually didn't collect yet).

Anyway, I wish you all a happy new year!

            Mohamed (aka Ragabolly)

My apologies if I have done you a disservice. You are not a name I recall ever posting before last season (and I wasn't on here much last season).

It remains the case that a lot of what your site does was already done by FPLD. Smarty Pants was a long-time poster and contributor on a voluntary basis and deserves better, in my opinion, than having your site linked and mentioned and consistently referred to on FFS, to the detriment of what he built. I see it just like my local coffee shop; a guy built it up over years and then one of the big coffee chains set up right next door and stole all his business.

There is also a fundamental difference of philosophy going on here. You say "I even built predictive algorithms to tell people whether they should hold their chips or not relative to the dynamics in the top 10k." Well, let me tell you something. A good manager doesn't need an algorithm to tell them what to do and when. They work it out for themselves. FFS used to have an underlying thread of learning how to play the game better. Nowadays that has been replaced by the idea of getting the fixes; getting someone or something else to tell you what best to do. That really is lowest common denominator stuff; dumbing down if you like. And personally I don't like.

This is part of what I mean by the direction of travel. From a bunch of keen amateurs trying to learn how to understand and play the game better to a slick, quick fix mainstream service which seeks to reduce everything to an algorithm or a tweet. It's not for me and it's not for many who were here on FFS before me. FFS has lost its soul, I'm afraid. At least that's my opinion about it.

And now, with a second apology for any personal disservice done, I shall retire to my cave. I didn't really mean to air all this anyway; it just snowballed out of my original comment about the team news. But I stand by the general thrust of my comments nevertheless.

@Ragabolly your work is well acknowledged and genuinely loved by thousands, if not tens of thousands of FF fans all over the world. You are an actual Jedi Master when it comes to Coding and there are lots of young padawans and siths out there who would paint this in the wrong light.

Technology moves EVERYTHING forward eventually, and the moaning about algorithms is probably not all that different to those complaining about trains & cars displacing the trusty horse as the chosen method of transport.

“We” FF Fans are lucky to have someone of your calibre donate even a fraction of their time and considerable talents to the Fantasy Football world.

Keep up the great work & may your arrows be green!

Just seen this, Ruth. Fair play. I'm not sure what most of it has to do with Team News 😀 , but I too lament the site's failure to promote quality FPL discussion and progress. I missed the early years of the site and community, but it sounds like I would have liked it a lot.

Along with all the things you mentioned about direction, I think much of it comes the comment section set-up which can't efficiently handle an increased volume of traffic. Contributions are forgotten before they're seen. If you were designing a new site to handle high numbers of visitors and contributors, which was intended to actually help people improve and share their knowledge and skills, it would look nothing like this. I've been excited about the new set-up Mark told us they were going to implement a year and a half ago, but it seems like it's still not a priority.

There are people who want to engage in a cooperative community, so there's a market for it. Just not as profitable here to appease the minority, I suppose. I understand the frustration.

Ruth when you say back in the day how long ago are you talking because it sounds like a very long time ago but your team link says you've only been playing the game since 2014/2015? 🙂

            You're talking like you're a founding father that's been around for 15 years. 😆

exact same point. I have always been suspicious of accounts that have high ranks from the get go. It took me 6 years to even consider searching for something like ffs. My rank shot up and i thought maybe i should start a new account and look really clever now that i know how the game works.

I said 5 years ago. This is my 5th season of FPL. But it was possible to discern the character of the place when you joined, just as it is now. I can therefore quite happily comment on the difference between 5 years ago and now.

Whether people want to believe I have played FPL for longer is up to them. People believe all kinds of things about me. Mostly what they believe, or assume, or imply is wrong but I don't bother to argue any more.

In any case, my comments don't relate to my playing history at all. They relate to the FFS site, about which I am as entitled to have an opinion as anyone.

I'll pass this along to Neale, who does the Team News (with input from the rest of the team, including Mark). He watches all the press conferences and works full-time on FFS and FPL so he's well positioned to do Team News, and he's certainly better at it than I would be or most would be, but I take your point that more transparency on why the decisions are made would help.

I ignore the fake news posts too and there are always ways to check their validity, but that doesn't mean it's content that needs to be on site. Similarly, fake goal shouts are tiresome and can be fact-checked but we remove them - content judged to be purposefully misleading others isn't conduct that I want to see.

But really at the base of it I'm not announcing a policy change at all, I'm just reminding posters that there are expectations on here and that one of those is that you don't purposefully try to mislead others

Wrong decision imho for the various points raised by others.

Un-sourced news that seems to be based upon some logic (explained by the poster) should be hulked and tagged as ‘un-sourced’ so that the community can judge it on its merits and link to it when the follow-up questions arise.

The fall out from deleting a post (that generally comes from some source) causes more confusion that letting it stand, and a few hours later a tweet will appear and be posted on here with the same content anyway 🙂

Yeah, certainly if there is un-sourced news that seems to be based on some logic it stays.

This kind of post won't though, if there's nothing to back it up: 'It's confirmed that Pogba will miss today's game'

        1. Hotdogs for Tea
          • 8 Years
          5 years, 3 months ago

          Totally agree with that.

I had some information once from an unproven source that Llorente would be out for Swansea, basically a local fan met him and had a chat and he said his foot was still injured, I had no ‘source’ as such to link to (facebook fans Trust page) but it was a lot better than half of what Dinery has.

I sold Llorente, he was out for the next 2 or 3 weeks, and it is this type of ‘in the know’ information that we need.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t bother to share that now because of the flack I would get

Tough job for you guys to get it right though and I fully understand you have to have a policy, but a bit of flexibility and management of these such posts is better than a ‘blanket delete & ban’ of them imho

            Yeah, I agree 🙂

Said that in a reply to FPLV in this thread - I'm not a fair of blanket rules without flexibility.

That kind of insider info is crucial and if a known user posts that it's a lot less likely to be deleted. Someone with a history of good, thoughtful posts, and not a troll gets significantly more space.

I know a grav doesn't really mean a lot but having a grav and being a recognized poster means that there's some credibility on the line, which also means mods are more likely to leave posts up

I don't regret it at all. These are good worms.

It's promoted good conversation and important suggestions from people, in addition to transparency on our side explaining why certain things happen.

The site isn't perfect and neither are our methods, and as the site continues to grow, feedback (constructive, well-meant, and helpful) is necessary.

Very common. There’s a lot of us about.

It’s been black and white with hauls and not hauls for certain players.

City players after Liverpool are going to be essential.

    Currently have none.

Is Sterling worth the money or would Sane or one of the other midfielders suffice?

      Fixtures aren’t that great

Sane for me at the prices

It’s not fashionable but I think Aguero will score best though

Well apparently Pogba/Hazard are on their deathbeds & Son of to the Cup next week.

I count three spots that could become City players!

Just taking the mickey - but I don't think it's too hard to fit one in, should they begin firing again.

Yea. I've 2 free transfers for next GW and own son so can get 1 easily. It's probably gonna be Sane

Assuming no injuries between now and next gameweek, who do people think is 1 person, flying under the radar now, who will be in the next template? My first thought is Alli.

I'm surprised both that he was the most popular captain choice, and by the gap between him and Kane in the captaincy numbers. I would've thought Kane away at Cardiff would've been the default option for all owners, but it seems not to be the case.
