How FFScout users are preparing for Double Gameweek 32

Fantasy Football Scout users have submitted an excellent set of polls to help our preparation for Double Gameweek 32.

The questions range from chip strategy to how much we should trust Manchester City and Chelsea with their fixtures.

Not surprisingly, the most requested poll centred around which of the chips is best to play in this expanded round of fixtures.

Forever in Our Shadow, Trippier Hazard, Sebes Gusztav, Nimith Enzo, Ohlsay, Nat Kane Cole and PEP_TALK all wanted to know about this one.

Jimmy Hendrix and de quiney were both keen to challenge the thinking on Free Hitting in Double Gameweek 32, suggesting Blank Gameweek 33 as an alternative option.

We had a poll from Studsy25 who wanted to know the best way of preparing for Double Gameweek 32 for those without the Free Hit or Wildcard chips.

Another hugely popular question concerned the best way to capitalise on Manchester City’s two matches, against Fulham (away) and Cardiff (home).

DMil, BBC_TF, Toblerone52, Fossit, Karsa, LosBlancos, PEP_TALK and Masteryeoda all submitted some great polls on this subject, so we combined them into one.

Given their unpredictable nature in recent times, Scout users want to know what the consensus is on Chelsea, especially their defence.

This poll came in from Beercalona, Tomthewise1, Podorsky, The Beer Baron and Dusan Citizen.

Another popular poll concerns to what extent we even trust the Double Gameweek itself.

Forever in our Shadow, BKrisztian, Leakyman and Pamino all wanted to know how many single Gameweek players would be present in our squads for Double Gameweek 32.

BenjoBD takes that question one step further to identify how many Liverpool players will be present in our Double Gameweek 32 squads.

Of those who have two matches, it does look difficult to cram all of the premium heavy hitters in.

For that reason, Saint & Reevesy, AdAdityan and FFSBullets want to know which of those we are most likely to leave out.

Finally, Diverpool wants to know to what extent Scout users are worried about rotation ahead of the FA Cup semi-finals.

Manchester City, Brighton, Watford and Wolves will be participating in the competition’s last four stages several days after their midweek Double Gameweek 32.

    A) Duffy, Delofeou

    Or

    B) wan-bissaka, Milovojevic

Also, wan-bissaka is yellow flagged. How serious is the injury and will it affect his 2 starts?

This is the FH dilemma. 2 rotations or injuries makes the FH less valuable.
F hitters are somewhat forced to go safe.

Part of me thinks keeping the FH for say GW38 may make a bigger difference than using it this week? And Aguero(TC) should outside GW36 Salah.

    I can get this with a -8:
    Alisson
    Shaw, AWB, Luiz
    Sterling, Hazard, Townsend, Fraser
    Aguero(TC), Higuain, Bats

    A) take the -8 and TC
    B) just do -4 and TC (leave SGW A.Barnes not Bats)
    C) FH

Still have all chips atm. Thanks!

      1. Assuming Sterling & Aguero are there in every FH team who is the best option for the 3rd City spot?
Cover the def with Laporte/Ederson or go all out attack with D.Silva/B.Silva?'

Chelsea Citeh and Man U have good fixtures. Also ran clubs have a fixture that can gain nothing defensively. Keepers and defenders pay their way with one cleanie out of 2. Hazard, Sterling and Kun trolls. Where does that leave us?

So much time spent on double fixtures with tiredness, rotation, C league, FA Cup, injuries, has resulted in free hitters being forced to go safe, leaving out Luiz kaku Rashford, Doherty, Jimi and the like.
I am far more inclined to consider weeks 36 to 38 and the fixtures our big hitters have. One week with a 25 point gain is less concerning than the last 3 weeks of good planning.
      Talk about that rather.

No-one forces free-hitters to go safe, but I do expect many of their teams to be very similar to each other.

There is no reason why you can't have both - one or two weeks with gains of 20 points or more and also good planning for all the other game-weeks including the single ones.

And if you still have your Wildcard as well as your Free Hit chip (unfortunately I don't, since I wasted my Wildcard earlier) then your combined gains in DGWs 32 and 35 should be far more than 40 points.

I think the broad FH template is quite settled, just to discuss the options and of course it depends on fitness.
So players to discuss for me are:
Strikers: Kane, Rashford, Lukaku, Higuain, Batshuayi.
      Midfielders: Martial, Son, Pogba.
      Defenders: AWB, Schlupp, Wolves players.

Other things being equal, double defence is a sword move and spreading the risk is a shield. Take your choice!

… but if two of the teams have far better chances of clean sheets than the rest then it could be the other way round.

Also depends on whether you also want to field more than one attacking player from these teams, which is not possible if you double on their defence.

            Horse archers, longbows or crossbows?
A single archer or bowman, or a large number of them?
They're all longer range than swords, but I'm not at all sure what difference that makes when selecting an FPL squad.

William the Conqueror's strategy of pretending to retreat in order to tempt the enemy into rushing forward and abandoning their defence, then turning round and giving Harold one in the eye, was however a good example of letting the other side have more possession and then breaking quickly with a fast counter-attack.

If you prefer bows and arrows then perhaps you ought to choose players who score screamers from outside the penalty area rather than ones who only score from inside the six yard box.

        Depends on your TV.
The higher your TV, the more premium attackers you can afford without weakening the rest of your squad too much.
But if your TV is fairly low, then 4 or 5 at the back may be worth considering - and so is reducing the number of premium attacking players in your squad.

      Is Mili that great pick?
With all set pieces like FKs and corners he has just 1 assist. That isnt much..
I know he has pens but its simply a question will CP will get a pen and I read people write about his assists from SP potential...1 assist this season doesnt look good for that.

It doesn't matter how he gets his points, as long as he continues to get them.
With Zaha in the team, CP are always likely to win penalties.
He may not produce the goods every game-week, but his average returns are greater than for most rivals at his price.

Record is subjective, yes he’s done well and is usually a flat track bully, but stick a man or Jorginho and sit with 10 men behind the ball and Chelsea stop scoring. Might be worth considering a shield captaincy andnlet the rest do the work.

I think I'd like you and your fellow scoutcasters to analyse DGW32 from the perspective of the different end of season chip strategies that people are likely to be taking.

From what seems the most popular, which is the FH in DGW32 and the template which is forming this week for FH teams. (City triple up?)

To others like myself who didn't build up a squad to cope with blank GW31 but instead used the FH in GW31 (because I already had a lot of DGW32 players and didn't want to use transfer hits to swap for GW31 players).

The option for those not FHing in DGW32 to use a different chip this week (TC or BB) and potentially transfer in a different player or 2 that aren't in the FH template such as Chelsea and Palace players that have a DGW32 but also play in GW33.

And will the different end of season chip strategies lead to 2 (or more) templates forming for the end of season run in, depending on which route was chosen?

Even though Wolves will be keeping one eye on the FA Cup, is it a risk to go without Jimenez considering his overall ownership (especially for non FH who will have him in their teams) and potential to play 2 games. I can’t see rotation against Burnley, it’s only the United game that he could miss out on but is using Jimenez as a ‘single game week player’ against a Burnley side enough to keep him? If he hauls it could be damaging to free hitters that go without.

And you've done well to mould the cast into a mostly rewarding experience for the viewer imo, after a rocky strat, which is to your credit.

Although sometimes it feels like others are simply waiting for their turn to speak, zoning out or typing away (e.g. answering the questions in the chat before repeating themselves on screen), your level of engagement really holds the thing together. Keep it up, man.

My question is: can you just turn off the chat so we can watch 4 guys having their own chat? 😛

I usually watch it full-screen so that I don't get distracted by the on-line chat, but each to his own.

I'm sure that those who join in the on-line chat do appreciate the contributions from the Scouts, and the Scouts may also occasionally spot something in the on-line chat that they can then mention in the Scoutcast.

It honestly seems really rude to me if someone isn't listening to their friends in the podcast, but instead answering the same question in the chat with strangers, only to be asked the same question again and repeat the answer they already gave in the chat, unaware of what the other members of the conversation already said...but each to their own.

Perhaps they could nominate one person to to keep an eye on chat and bring up relevant comments, but tbh, the chat is just the same as the FFS comment section. I don't listen for that. The scoutcast can already take advantage of community opinion as it's posted here all week. Maybe a chat moderator could forward relevant comments from the chat to the scouts, but really, I care more about the connection of the people on screen, which seems fake or non-existent if they don't really listen to each other.

Just my opinion, but I cant understand you defending them. I'm not really attacking anyone though just voicing a minor quibble which can have large consequences for the magic of the scoutcast from my perspective.

That's just part of it, but the main take-home is that I appreciate Joe's steadfast attempt to keep the scoutcast rolling and positivity up.

Regardless of how his season is going personally, he's aware that there is an audience, and that that audience want to see a way forward for their teams, and that they want to be entertained. Well done to Joe.

I haven't noticed any reduction in the quality of the Scoutcast as a result of some of the Scouts also looking at the on-line chat, but if there has been then you're probably right.

You've actually nailed this right on the button, Deulo.

I really enjoy the structure and chat about the different topics in general, but yeah there are definitely times when I feel like I'm sitting listening intently to one of their opinions or explanations and then have a quick glance at the others only to notice them contributing on the chat and then rehashing those answers later on verbally.

I feel like with less attention being paid, it can take away from the amount of banter or debating that occurs/used to occur in the past (Which is of course something that we all enjoyed).

The idea of a chat moderator is pretty good, but as you say, it is often just a repetition of what is said on the site. I do acknowledge that the chat brings up corrections or important points, so it should be ignored completely.

I am still a fan and this is in no way a criticism, but merely something that I too have noticed and hope that they can work on in the future. 🙂

Is the freehit enough of a differential this GW or should we trying to include X number of diffrential players within a freehit side?
I can put a strong XI but seems to pretty similar to many other FH sides. Obviously the likes of Kun & Sterling will be popular but the 3rd City option should it possibly be a lower ownership option?
Obviously all this within the context that a chip like freehit should be about trying to make a decent move up the rankings for most players rather than just holding steady to those around them.

Free Hit is a chance to make a big move up the rankings, overtaking many of those who don't play their Free Hit then and who may have had to take a few hits.

I don't think that Free hit is the time to look for differentials compared to other Free Hitters (apart from trying to take advantage of your superior TV if you have one). You can do that in other game-weeks when squads are likely to be far more different.

Are there any single gameweek players that we should consider that are being ignored by those on free hit?

      - Mane?
      - Vardy?
      - Maddison?

Who are the best enablers for free hit squads?

      - Foster?
      - Schluup?
      - Mili?

Who are the best differentials for free hit squads?

      - David Silva?
      - Batshuayi?
      - Double / Triple United attack (Pogba / Rashford / Lukaku)?
      - Double / Triple Chelsea defence (Kepa / Azpi / Luiz / Rudiger)?

      1. Just organisationally, think its best to separate the FH32 advice from the rest.

      2. Formations: Looking at the pool of popular players in GW32, is it safe to say Forwards are better differentials from the Mids this week? Most of us have Sterling Pogba Hazard, and Aguero being the only nailed Forward.

      3. I'm sure most will talk about mids already. Chelsea Defenders: Is Luiz (28 Apps) really rotational prone vs Azpi (30 Apps)? Have seen some claiming Rudiger (29 Apps) nailed.

Does anyone regret castrating their team in order to follow this strange FH 32 strategy by filling their teams with GW 31 and 33 picks instead of form players who funnily enough have double games in 32 and 35....

      Harry Kane? Yes or no?
+ Good against Liverpool and will want to score in new stadium
      - Against Liverpool, poor against Palace. Big pressure with new stadium, could be like the new 'August goal drought.'

With many people concerned about minutes for players in teams with FA cup semifinals the following week. Is it likely that either of Aguero and Sterling will only play in one game? If they were a single game week player, would we consider captaining them over others?

If they just had one of Fulham or Cardiff they’d be jockeying around the top of the captaincy chart. As David and Joe said on today’s captaincy video it’s hard to look past them. By going elsewhere you have to be betting big they will fail.

Are we overlooking Kanté as a cheap DGW enabler?

Only 5m practically Guaranteed 180 mins and in his more advanced role capable of a cheeky attacking return. If not doubling up on Chelsea defence could he be the key that unlocks all the big hitters?

    36. FP Elephant

      Thanks Joe & Scoutcast team!

      1. Player - Kane. Is he the ultimate DGW sword (especially since most of the active, non-FH teams won't have or can't afford him)? He's in my team now, but his big price tag means sacrifices elswhere in my FH squad. In a 4-3-3, your 4th mid and 2nd/3rd defender or GK will not as strong as they could be if you have Kane up top. Tempting to downgrade Kane to Rashford/Higuain/Deeny/Jimenez and use the substantial savings to get top-shelf DGW def/GK lineup with 2 Chelsea and 1 City. But a Kane haul would like mean big green arrows.

      2. Question - Should we really be afraid of wolves and hornets? Wolves/Watford have great mid-priced enablers for FH teams (especially Wolves because of Jimenez and cheap defenders)... I'm not really buying into all the FA Cup rotation fears on Jimenez (maybe some managed minutes, but they can win both games if he starts) and their cheap defenders like Boly who seem to play every game. Don't believe the (rotation) hype?

      3. Question - any SGW players to consider? Right now my entire starting XI is DGW players, but I need stats to confirm this isn't folly! I actually tried (and failed) to find 2017-18 data on who were the top scoring players in last year's DGW 34/37 and which were single-gamers. If I had the raw data I would have crunched it and written a community article or HT for Geoff looking at how many SGW players were top scorers in the DGWs the last year or two and if they were expected to be there (e.g., they had the form or fixtures to be obvious Scout Squad picks if it were a normal SGW). If you have last year's DGW player scoring data on hand, I'd love to know if we're overlooking SGW players at our own peril. Leicester players (Vardy, Maddison) at home to Bournemouth... and Arsenal (Laca, Auba, Kola, even a punt on Mkhi) at home to Newcastle would be tempting in a SGW.

      Thanks!

Some of the SGW players who scored well in DGW34 last season were: Perez 12, Sterling 10, Jesus and Milivojevic 9, Mane, Salah, Lacazette and Tomkins 8.
These outscored the following players in my DGW34 BB team: Ryan 2+3, Azpilicueta 1+2, Bavies 0+2, Valencia 2+DNP, Lowton 2+1, Mahrez 2+3, Willian 4+DNP and Sanchez 2+DNP.

The biggest DGW failures in my DGW37 TC team were Murray 1+DNP, Sterling 3+DNP, Jesus 2+2, Eriksen 2+3 and Pogba 2+2.

Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea have great fixtures for this DGW. Are you going with 3 players from each team?

If so, are you doubling up on any DF's or will it be 2 x MD/FW's and 1 x DF for each of those 3 teams?

Only a small amount of all players are playing FH32 though. My plan is more like getting same players as most will get on FH (Aguero, Sterling, Haz, Pogba, Duffy, Luiz etc.), and take advantage on FH33. Not many players overall will have their FH intact that gw.

          Triple Cardiff isn't great imo.
Downgrade Sane to a cheap Midfielder & get Kola, Arsenal Midfielder etc.

Basically if you haven't played WC I don't think this is a good gw to WC.
FH this gw & don't worry about having Chelsea player's on your WC team.

thanks for your input! keep changing the team currently; now with 2 ManU players (Lukaku, Pogba). Especially defense is changing; atm with Kepa, Azpi, Laporte, Duffy, Schlupp.
Not sure if Laporte will play both.. What are your thoughts?

People here think he'll play both as he's only Left footed CB available @ pep's disposal.
I'm going B Silva personally as 3rd city player

Planning alot of moves this GW, thoughts on each one?

    Hazard ---> Salah
    Fabi ---> Kepa (-4)
    Doherty ---> Azpi (-8)
    Jonny ----> Schlupp (-12)

Doherty and Jonny likely to play 1 game in GW 32/33
Azpi and Schlupp likely to play 3 games.
Fabi(EVE, che) whereas Kepa has (car, BHA, WHU)

    Surely will pay off?

Id keep one of Jonny or Doherty as you'll want one Wolves def GW34 onwards.
Think Schlupp can be ignored certainly not worth a hit imo.

I’m not sure he is more nailed than Rashford, depends on Man Us injury situation. Giroud could easily come in for the midweek game too.

City kick off the GW. Some leaked news would be fun.

I’ve had Ederson, Sterling and Kun for maybe two months now and loved it.

It makes me want to go a third attacker instead of the safe Ederson just to have an edge at attack every time city score. Problem is, it’s a mine field.

D.Silva probably the best option if going triple City attack.
But Laporte/Ederson are great value and could easily get 12 points.

No I don't think so, I'm concerned about Chelsea Triple up and which United player I have (after Pogba and Lolderof) so that makes room.

Similar myself - wouldn't look at it as 'too much' - they're essentially enabling the rest of your side and they have Huddersfield at home!

Could be bonus time against Spurs as well. I prefer 3 Palace this GW to 2 Palace + 1 Wolves/Watford.

Could work. I’d go 3x City, and 3x Chelsea first, then 2x Utd. Palace work well as the enablers.

Man Utd is difficult to Navigate.

    - Pogba is the obv choice but what if he plays again in the deeper role we saw him play when Matic was out?
    - Lukaku seems injured and even if he is passed fit, there's still a question mark over his fitness
    - Same applies with Rashford who does not seem to be the same since his knock on his ankle
    - question mark over Martial again on his fitness

quite a blurry picture isn't it?

    1. Eze Really?

If an Everton supporter can win FPL without a pool player all season. Anyone disregarding united has a much easier route.

Alternatively, Pogba is almost certain to play both games, and his defensive responsibility seems to increase when United play higher quality opposition, such as Spurs, Liverpool, PSG (1st leg) - Herrera, and McTom are far more naturally defensive than Pogba.

Also with Sanchez definitively out, United front three can only be between Rashford, Lukaku, Martial, Lingard....maybe Mata but he doesn't have the pace OGS likes in his attackers.

Wait for news from the press conferences, but Rashford was deemed fit enough to travel with the England team so I'd say his injury isn't serious enough to stop him playing, same with Lukaku and Martial.

An alternative rough with the smooth - non premier league addition.

Smooth - Enjoyed an excellent game between Holland and Germany last night. Footballing master class.

Rough - Northampton lost 3-1 to Cheltenham Town. We could have been 6 points off the play-offs, but looks like the dream is over for another year.
