Recapping the best Man City players ahead of FPL restart

Manchester City players are the talk of the Fantasy Premier League community ahead of Double Gameweek 30+, with good reason.

They face Arsenal and Burnley in the opening round of Project Restart matches.

We are currently recapping every team in the Premier League as FPL prepares to resume later this month, using data from the period just before March’s coronavirus suspension.

While we appreciate that much has changed since then, it still serves to know who went into lockdown in the best form.

We continue that series with a full examination of the Manchester City squad, using Gameweeks 23 and 29 as our selected period as they missed out on Gameweek 28 due to the League Cup final.

    0.0 ITB

    TAA - Stevens - Baldock - Saiss - Lascelles
    KDB - Sterling - Grealish - McGinn - Saka
    Auba - Aguero - Samatta

    Thoughts on this squad ?
    Thanks guys!

Looks decent as far as template BB teams go.

I’m personally keeping Jimi up front and using Mahrez to spread funds rather than Sterling. Just don’t think he’s worth the extra cash given we have no clue how many mins he’ll play.

      Saka.

Reverse OOP who may not play due to Tierney.

Away at City too. Find the funds for Cantwell.

Been tinkering. Anything you’d improve here? (DGWers are *)

    BB30+ (WC31+)

    0itb
    Leno*, Reina*
    TAA, Stevens*, Baldock*, Doherty, Fernandez
    KDB*, Mahrez*, Grealish*, Cantwell, Fleck*
    Kun*, Auba*, Jimi

The only thing I don’t like is Reina. Can’t see him doing much at all points-wise but I prefer having Fleck to a triple SHU defence. I like having the couple of SGWers in Fernandez and Cantwell.

    Thoughts appreciated!
    Cheers

I went Ramsdale and also have Sarr over Fleck, but in mind regarding Mahrez/Sterling.. Frees up 3m

Hey Warby mate. Thanks. I don’t think I want to reduce the number of DGWers anymore as it stands but I may change my mind!

Try N see whether you can fit a Chelsea attacker in your team.

I have an option to have Mount if I switch Doherty to Saiss:

        Leno*, Henderson*
        TAA, Stevens*, O’Connell*, Saiss, Fernandez
        KDB*, Mahrez*, Grealish*, Cantwell, Mount
        Kun*, Auba*, Jimi

I try taking Doherty out and the team looks wrong.. He is a keeper..

If you are less invested in Doherty than in TAA and if you think that Mount will outscore Barnes, Traore and Sarr it seems like a good option.

Reina to Henderson (which you failed to mention previously) is the proper reason to do this, though. GK + 2x wingback from Sheffield is the proper triple up. I'm saying this as a Fleck owner who is planning to FH him away for the DGW.

Yeh I do think I like the balance of this option a lot more but I really would like to keep Doherty over Saiss but can’t see how

How invested are you in TAA? Downgrading TAA and buying him back on WC would give you the upgrade funds if you want to tinker something else.

Otherwise, 3x MCity mid/fwd + 2x Sheffield def + Auba and Leno + Grealish is legit and Doherty + Jimi is very nice. It's only Fernandez, Reina and your choice of Cantwell/Fleck I might tamper with. For example, picking a Chelsea mid vs Villa or Leicester mid vs Watford has points potential or you could go for a Wolves triple up vs West Ham.

No but I have two man city midfielders instead. I’ve gone with Aguero because both games are at home and he usually plays home matches so more chance of him starting both games but this is a risky tactic for me

Anyone leaning towards using FH and saving BB AND WC? I feel that the FH team is stronger due to the high value of Aguero, Auba, Ster, KDB. Also don't want to lose TAA (0.3m), Salah (0.3m), DCL (0.3m), Fernandes (0.1m).

Would be really interested in hearing from other slow-widcarders

    1. Exeterslowly

Yes I am because I had already tidied up My team during lockdown. The FH will help with DG week and will revert to my decent team I have next game week.

Have you got much value tied up in players then? And any plans as to when you want to use your WC and BB?

I don’t have a WC left but I do have my BB and TC. I’ll wait and see how these games develop as they are coming thick and fast so I may need to use them for the wrong reasons!

Same boat. I’ve half an eye on BB during GW31+ before my WC in gw32. However, my main reason is to WC from gw32 to get a little bit more info rather than a rushed gw31 move with limited info/ insights

      3 years, 9 months ago

I'm considering it for same reasons, have value tied up in TAA, Salah and Jimenez mostly. Maybe WC is good to use to get rid of Liverpool players if/when they have won the league.

      1. wonkeydonkey
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

Handy to know I'm not the only one then! Also think that my bench will pretty much all be SGW players so would rather spread the money across my team for the later GWs (when I'll probably still need a decent bench)

Who's in your GW38 team then?

        1. Pukki Party
          • 6 Years
          3 years, 9 months ago

Only problem is if we use free hit we can't use BB. My current team is

          McCarthy
          TAA Boly Lundstram
          Salah Mane Moura Mount
          Vardy Deeney Jimenez

          Ryan Cantwell Fernandez Holgate

      • 11 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

FH gives you the strongest DGW XI without blowing up your current team. GW34+ seems like a decent BB GW option. ManU, Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, MCity all have favorable MUs so you want to field all of those players. Watford vs Norwich and Burnley vs West Ham means any bench fodder from those teams might get a surprise score. Only Arsenal vs Leicester and Sheffield vs Wolves are difficult games to estimate whether the teams are going for a 0-0 or 5-4 result.

    Henderson, ----
    O'Connell, ----, Trent, Targett, Saiss

    A) Leno, Alonso, Son, Ayew

    Leno
    Stevens/Baldock/Targett
    KDB/Mahrez/Grealish/Fleck/McGinn
    Auba/Aguero

    Bench: Guaita/Doherty/Trent/Jota

Guaita/Doherty/Trent/Jota are the best SGW players i could fit in for now. Not keen on third Arsenal asset beyond Leno and Auba.

Yeah I'm leaning towards this as beyond Leno & Auba I'm not sure any other Arsenal players are worth it. It also enables me to get an exact money WC squad of:

        McCarthy
        TAA Doherty Maguire
        Salah KDB Son Fernandes
        Rashford Jimenez DCL

        Martin Cantwell Lascelles 3.9

I don't mind Ozil or Bellerin for other Arsenal shouts.

At what price did you buy Jime? That matters. For me, I am keeping Jime because I bought for 7.1 so I can only sell for 7.6 and would lose .5 value immediately.

It's not so bad for me, got at 7.5 so I lose 0.3. But my feeling is that -if fit- McGinn will outscore Samatta and Jimi is more than capable of equalling (or even beating) Ozil in his game against West Ham.

I going with Leno for save points, I can't don't expect any clean sheets so a double-up on the Arsenal defence is a no-go for me.

I think Jimi for sure could outscore Ozil in just one game.

Not so sure about McGinn though. Samatta likely plays 180', can't say the same for McGinn.

Yeah, I don't mind Bellerin I mean if you have Hendo/Ederson as the goalies - but def no Ars double.

              Cheers mate.

Yeah, that's the danger with going McGinn over Samatta. He played 30 mins in the last friendly. I'm a Villa fan and we desperately need him back so hopefully Smith will risk him. The tasty WC team I've got set up is exact money so I think I may roll the dice on him.

Yeah, I am for sure having 2 of 3 between Grealish, Samatta, or McGinn (+ Targett).

As a Norwich fan clinging by life support, I hope whatever Smith does fails 🙂

Yeah Grealish is a given, and Targett a decent enabler at 4.4. I think they will be the most popular duo.

I hope if the worst happens you (we ?) bounce straight back up.

What chance of attacking returns from Luiz over the double?

If I wasn't going with Leno, he'd be my second Arsenal player after Auba as a differential. He's worth a punt but I don't expect much.

Apologies, Douglas Luiz, Villa mid. Fodder price, minimal attacking returns but might punt cos Villa not Laden with good attackersm

There's always a chance, I think the likelihood of a return from Targett or Luiz during the double is the same (and reflected in their price). For me Fleck is the most sensible pick as 5th midfielder if you can stretch to him.

My BB is looking like this at the mo if I don't go for Ozil:

                        Leno* McCarthy
                        TAA Stevens* Egan* Targett* Fernandez
                        Sterling* KDB* Grealish* McGinn* Fleck*
                        Aguero* Auba* Jimenez

                        11 DGW players

Cheers. I don't have BB left. Just TC, FH and WC. Will prob TC Aguero. I hear you on Fleck but Blades are like the ultimate everyone chips in team. Whereas Grealish is Villa's top dog by a long way, maybe Henderson is Sheffield United's. No outstanding high FPL points attacker, defenders, mids, forwards all contribute assists and goals, none of them scoring high and mids and forwards rotate to stay fresh. Luiz might
be ideal for me in 30+, I won't expect much but he's an enabler. Can then bench him and fodder price, with Hanley, Martin GK before WC a few GWs in after seeing a few settled lineups and form.

    Current team:-

    Pope Krul
    W-B Dann A-A Lascelles Doherty
    Barnes Salah DB Son Fernandes
    C-L Rashford Jota 0.1m itb

Had made use of the recent weekly transfers to shape the team for the final leg.
Wasn't expecting this 'free transfers' malarkey, so with 1.5m TV at stake, can move to:-

    Henderson Leno
    Stevens Baldock A-A Lascelles Luiz
    Sterling DB Grealish McGinn Luiz
Aguero Aub Pukki (not a bean itb) Bench Boost

Will only be losing 0.8m TV, so will be able to wildcard back to the original team almost entirely.

Three Villa midfielders doesn't feel right, but if they fluke a clean sheet it will possibly be a six point bonus.

These DGW usually don't fail to disappoint, but we fall for it every time!

Going with 12 DGWs. For the 3 SGWs would you go:

    A) TAA, Cantwell, Jimi (0.6 saved in team value but less £ to spend on the rest)
    B) Aarons, Cantwell, Pukki (lose the TV but more £ to spend on the rest)

I think it's tempting personally. All key players for their side, Pukki on pens, both he and Cantwell started strong earlier in the year. Norwich fighting for their lives in a winnable fixture

It’s not that. I just don’t think pep trusts him. And if same is on the scene I don’t think he likes playing them together down the left. It’s a good differential though as not many teams will have him and if he is on the ball he can score quite heavily

I don't think Sane will start in either game. If anything, Sane + someone will come on and Mendy will come off at that time.

It is a risk though, for sure!

    How is this BB team?

    Leno Reina
    TAA Basham O’Connell Mings Lascelles
    Sterling KdB Grealish Cantwell Fleck
    Aguero Auba Jimenez

Could do Targett over Mings, no? Any reason for Mings?

I think Cantwell v Saka is pretty mute.

I keep trying to get Aguero, Auba, Sterling, KdB, but it just isn't quite fitting in my squad. Also may be nice to have 1 city defender (Ederson or Mendy, Mendy as my differential because I think he will play both games, could sub off in 60-65' min for an early CS, and provide attacking returns.)

Maybe revise Samatta PVA and Bellerin pick? I am on same situation as you and i think i will field this team:

      Leno
      Stevens/Baldock/Targett
      KDB/Mahrez/Grealish/Fleck/McGinn
      Auba/Aguero

      Bench: Guaita/Doherty/Trent/Jota

Trying to have best SGW players possible. and "nailed" DGW ones, even though Mahrez hardly falls under that category

After giving it some further thought I'm not sure Unlimited Transfers and BB for 30+ is the way to go (for me anyway), I did a slow wildcard so below is my current team (which looks good for 31+ if I was to FH this week).

    Current Squad 0.8itb

    Henderson Pope
    TAA AWB Saiss Lundstram Lascelles
    Salah KDB Fernandes Sarr Cantwell
    Jimenez Vardy DCL

OPTION 1: FH as per the team below 0.0itb (or similar) and revert back to the current squad (with WC and BB intact)

    Henderson
    Baldock Egan Targett
    Sterling KDB Grealish Fernandes
    Aubameyang Aguero Jimenez

OPTION 2: Unlimited Transfers to team below (or similar) and BB (WC in 31+ but wouldnt be able to get back previous team due to lost value)

    Henderson
    TAA Walker Baldock
    Sterling KDB Ozil Grealish
    Aubameyang Jimenez Samatta

    BB: Leno Egan Targett Saka

In summary, which path should I take:

Option 1: strong 11 (mostly DGWers) for a FH30+, and back to current squad in 31+
Option 2: full playing squad (mostly DGWers) and BB30+, then WC31+ but with a fair bit of lost value

Thoughts appreciated, and hopefully this triggers alternative options to consider by others too!!

    Thanks

Option 1 personally as when your team reverts back you will not have those city players and they have some tough fixtures to come even if they are man city.

    2. Silecro
      • 6 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

Depends on how much value would you lost. I went with option 2 since my value lost is manageable, and playing FH in a unlimited transfers week somehow feels... Wrong. But thats just my case. If you lose 2.mil on TV then of course it can be other option

    3. Jason M
      • 9 Years

100% option 1. Very strong GW31+ team given your team reverts after FH.

I'm going for FH in GW30+ purely to retain TV.

thanks, its good to get some confirmation... because using a FH when we have unlimited transfers seems silly on the face of it but when TV is considered it makes sense
