FFS Charity Football Tournament

In just under a fortnight, on Saturday 24th February, around 30 Fantasy Football Scout community members will be putting away their keyboards and dusting off their replica kits as they get ready to play a round-robin, seven-a-side charity football tournament.

The event takes place at Hendon Football Centre, Barnet, NW9 5PE, between 12-3pm and has been organised by myself and TopMarx.

The day is being staged in memory of Simon Humber, who lost his battle with ocular melanoma in 2015. Simon was the creative director of EA’s FIFA team, a Portsmouth FC fan and a popular member of the Fantasy Football Scout community as ‘Absinthe’.

All the money raised will go to The Melanoma Research Foundation – a charity identified and verified in our recent contact with Simon’s family.

More information about Simon, together with an opportunity to donate, is available at this Just Giving page.

Please note that donations are expressed in dollars, rather than pounds, so a donation of $10 will be around £7.20 (based on the exchange rate on the morning of 12th February 2018).

The current squad lists (which may vary on the day) are below, but even if you are not playing or spectating please spare a few moments and a few quid by clicking on the Just Giving link and making a donation.

In addition to donations, a strict punitive system will be operated on the day with fines in place for diving, being nutmegged, late tackles and anything else the FFScout community can suggest. We are hoping to get some footage of the matches but can’t promise Sky Sports standard broadcasting.

Chasing 80 pts in ML so
    Ota-Alonso-Jones to
    Dawson-VVD-Simpson gives me this:

    -Foster
    -Vvd-Dawson-Simpson
    -Salah-Sterl-Son-Walcott
    -Kane-Firm-Wilson
    ---Elliot---CM----Ogbonna---Kabasele

And 4.1mil to upgarde CM .
    Right way to go?
    Need for differentials.

Worth holding Kenny as a 5th defender in the hopes that he gets a cheeky point off the bench on GW 31?

Had exactly the same 2 of 3 to lose. Lost Ota and Og
Kept Kenny hoping he will play while Not wishing any ill on Coleman.
Ogbonna was annoying me with no CS and when it came this week he was on the bench anyway.

I got Robertson and Davies but both are risky.

Who have been your heroes this season?

And what heroes would you recommend for the coming Gameweeks?

This is something Mark got in touch with earlier after realizing that he’s still holding out for a hero this season.

He’s after a hero who is strong - in getting double digit returns

He’s got to be fast – at registering goals and assists

And crucially he has be fresh for the fight - in climbing up the rankings

Who have been your heroes and which 'heroes' would you suggest Mark and other hero-less managers get in over the coming weeks?

I think goal scoring defenders who also get bonus points are among the best heroes over the season.

Shawcross, Baines, Vidic....there have been many over the seasons.

This time around, factoring in GWK 31 and fixtures I think that man could be Virgil Van Dijk. Can see a double digit return coming soon for the ex Saints man.

Poetically, it would make more sense if he was a huge flop this season at 75 mil and then next season he's priced at 5.5 again and does an Alonso

I'd really, really like Kevin De Bruyne to come into my team and be my hero, but how much more game time is he likely to have between now and the end of the season?

Heroes in my team so far this year? Salah (who I have had since gameweek 1) and Sterling. Phil Jones has been outstanding for the most part too.

As a fairly new KDB adopter I'd say he's great to get for home games but not hero class for away games. Although Stoke look easy prey for him v soon when they travel to the Bet365

      Heroes
Coutinho at 8.8 on GW 6 I think it was, when he played he plagued and when he didn't play no cameos and i got a fair few points off the bench.
      Pope at 4.5
Starting off with my super casual Bailly pick who got me 10 PPG brie i shipped reluctantly after the gameweeks i think.
Ummmm. That's probably it. Everyone else I've corrupted. I guess Kane is a favourite of mine but I've averaged about 11 points as captain from him so meh
      Heroes to come, hopefully
Auba and Mkhi on those pristine quadruple home fixture double gameweeks
De Bruyne on that last DGW unless it looks like rotation

Bavies lived long enough to turn a villain, one week 14 point haul next a no show when there should have been a clean sheet.

The best heroes help their comrades and I think Kane suffered for his lack of help.

I can safely say that no player i have owned has hit hero status for me this season but there is time yet.

I got in real life hero Seamus Coleman as my last transfer and i am hoping he can make me proud in the coming weeks and that the mussel injury does not hold him back too much.

Maybe Seamus could also could be our hero.

This is it! I'm the same.

I was woken up by my son arriving in our bed last night so I retreated to the spare room. While lying awake I was devising an end of season article - as you do - but while I could list my villains - Bobby F, Morata, Christensen - I couldn't think of one hero just yet. Not one I could genuinely claim as my own.

In previous seasons I've had 2-3 I'm sure - King last season was incredible as I got on early and he just blasted it for me.

More on the ScoutCast, but I think my lack of these characters has made me force things this season.

The thing is you have shared so much information this season about your thoughts that the average player has becommed better.

For instance my ML-rival have been following you on facebook this season and is 80p ahead of me. Usually he is a player who ends up way behind me.

Yes its some variance out there, but I definetly think you have helped many.

Yep - Ramsey's my unsung hero. No point singing the praises of Kane, Aguero, Sterling, and Salah, but Ramsey's steady stream of points at a mid-point price were a strong contribution. Mee and Calvert Lewin also made strong contributions at cut prices.

      - Paying the premium to add Spanish heroics at the back in form of Alonso and Azpilicueta has surely seen me fly since November.

      - Having Salah 27 straight gw's has also been fruitful.

      - But the true unsung hero of my team this season has to be Jordan Ayew. He's been the hero that's kept on giving. He's given me funds to spread the wealth of cash in more crucial slots, and even though he's only been called upon a handful of occasions, he's offered approximately 5 points a game when his talents have been deemed necessary.

Going forward, one hero stands out. He's fantasy royalty and in the hearts of many FPL-managers. Theo can deliver the heroics to let you soar b4 those pesky dgws come knocking and turns the whole game upside down. #TrustTheo

Surely it has to be Salah doesn't it? Consistent, underpriced, and on for the highest FPL score in history. If that doesn't constitute a hero I don't know what does!

Sterling has done much the same since about gw7.

At the back it must be ddg. Combines clean sheets with save points consistently.

Its been a disaster of a season witha alot of villains but if u wanna pick 1 hero it has to be kun for captaining him in the hattrick and quattrick. Kane hasnt been bad having capped him for his 2 hattricks. Main Villians have to be Alonso and firmino. Got them at wrong times and shipped before good times. I really fancy Auba and Eriksen to br our future heroes

It's a fairly fruitless exercise. If you happen to get in early on a late bandwagon the best you can hope for is a lucky 15-20 pointer from a player before the rest buy in.

There are almost certainly more points to be made around squad numbers 8-13

Aguero has been my hero , got him around GW 19
        Captained him for his 16 , 17 and 21 point hauls .
        Villan has been Kane .
Had him all season and when i got rid he went on and scored 2 hattricks !

Also , Coutino has been my unsung hero . He saved my gameweek when Kane scored that hattrick vs southampton !

Lascelles the only player I've had all season, unfortunately benched him this week but got all his other hauls and has been good value. Fabianski the same, had him every week bar one.

Gross was great value for the first half of the season and made a nice profit on him.

I've owned Salah and Kane for most of the season but whenever I've not had them they've punished me and I haven't got captain picks right often enough.

Niasse, not the hero Everton want but the one they deserve.

Salah has to be mentioned. He's my only ever present from GW1. Trolled me a couple of times early on when captained. One when he missed a pen and another when benched only to come on for a 1 point cameo. Other than that he's been golden.

Aguero, Shaqiri & Hazard have been true rank boosting heroes for me in the past 4 GWs but I guess the tide would turn from here. Over the season, Alonso & Sterling have been quite amazing and Kane & Salah require no mentioning.
Over the coming weeks, I guess Burnley & Swansea defense along with Arsenal mid & Mahrez look like decent options

Alonso, Sterling and now Shaqiri are heroes (got them all early or at the right time)

Too many to list, this season has been all about heroes.

Salah: Had him since GW1, never left my team.
Sterling: Also adopted him pretty early when he was 8.1, helped me a lot through the Holiday season.
        Kane: Back-to-back hat-tricks during Kanexit.
Coutinho: Like Sterling, made my holiday season, sad that he's gone.
Azpi: So excited owning him, to just know if he gets a CS he will always get 2-3 bps.
Alonso: Got rid of him long time ago, but that brace vs Spurs still brings back warm memories.
Otamendi: Kept the faith in him after five blanks after getting him in, enjoyed his hauls afterwards.
and finally...the latest addition to the list:
Hazard: Got him three game weeks ago, I was so excited watching him boss the game yesterday.

For me, closest ones to hero statue are Aguero and Hazard. I have them in the right times and because of the relatively low ownership they made the difference.

I got Aguero in GW19 and since then he brought me 32, 34 and 21 pointers (together with some 5-6 pointers) and the GW that I got 34 from him has been the highest GWRank of the season so far for me.

Hazard's hauls have come very timely in the weeks that I was doing really bad and because of the low ownership his points were always very effective. For example, Hazard 16-pointers yesterday gave me a bigger climb in ranks than Salah (C) 26 pointers plus Firmino 12-pointers.

Dropped nearly 200,000 places in the past three weeks, help is appreciated to stop the rot:

      DDG
      Stones, Alonso, Dunk, Ogbonna, Kenny
      Sanchez Salah, Sterling, Allen, Son,
      Kane, Niasse, Wilson

2FT, 0.4itb and all chips. Shocker of the week with Niasse on the bench

My train of thought is Stones, Sanchez and Niasse to Firmno, Walcott/Arnie and VVD for a -4

Walcott in, Niasse out is sideways now imo. Keep Niasse and sell Stones and Ogbona. I would recommend Dawson/Fernandez alongside Vvd.
Next week you can do Sanchez > Kdb and Willson > Firmino.

      Whats most sensible?

      A) Otamendi-> VVD
      B) Jones -> VVD
      C) Aguero -> Kane

Want Kane anyway longterm, Aguero will face rotation soon. ML rival ahead with 80p and will most likely captain him.
VVD great fixtures, time to probably cash in on Otamendi now?

I will get Kane and VVD in this round or next anyway. Just wondering who to get first.

      Much apperciated!

I'd go Otamendi -> VVD, and Kane next. It's not given to me that Kane (palace) will outscore Kun (arsenal) with his current form.
I find it probable that pool will keep a cleanie against west ham, but city doesn't seem very solid, and gunners have significant attacking threat, at least compared to burnley and leicester 😀

Yeah VVD. I've had Robertson for a while now so I can't go for VVD but if I had to choose right now it would be big Virgil.

Thoughts on Theo walcott ? (to replace pogba)

      - Nice fixtures (wat bur BHA sto)
      - 3 away games but i think apart from burnley fixture the other two are good for attacking returs
      - watford no cs at home in last 5 home matches conceding 10 goals in the process. apart from chelsea they were all easy fixtures too (SOT SWA LEI HUD)
      - other away game is stoke which is in gw31 where most other teams doesnt play
      - BHA at home is as good fixture as it gets

He hasnt had much success for some years too. People say city much better because of heavy spending. But with amount Manutd have spent, Pep would have still made a title winning side in two years. He wouldnt have wasted 50mn on two cbs who either yuk or injured most of time for starters.

One move can turn that around
''STUNNER! Spurs star Kane WILL listen to Man Utd summer offer.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is willing to consider an offer from Manchester United, according to major Madrid sources.
Marca says Kane is weighing up whether to join Manchester United.

He snubbed a move to Old Trafford last summer, despite the Red Devils being eager to double his wages.''

or attempt to get huge week salary at Spurs.

Best tips to take again a ML-rival with 80p lead? We both got the same chips, both used TC.
        I have 2m higher teamvalue.

Currently we have same players in Salah, Walcott, Sterling, Alonso, Jones. Thats definetly enough diff for me, but I think we will have more from the next gmw. I will get Aguero out for Kane and I can imagine him making 2 transfers to get out Alexis and get Firmino.

I will probably ask this question closer to the gmw, but I will just hear som thoughts on how to make the best strategy catch a rival.

I see many does mistakes in this situation and just fall even way behind by taking to many big risks. Currentyly I "just" need around 7,2p every gmw.

        Much apperciated!

You might only need 7 points per GW, but no matter how good you are chances are you won't beat his score every week.

You can go about it 2 ways. Carry how how you are are and just hope that your DGW/Blank plans are much better than his or go the differential route which as you say can also see you fall further behind.

Personally I could still carry on as normal for now and see how the first blank week pans out and take it from there.
