What impact will Aké have on Man City’s FPL defenders in 2020/21?

The arrival of Nathan Aké (£5.5m) at Manchester City could improve the club’s defensive prospects in 2020/21.

Pep Guardiola’s men were missing consistency and strength in depth at centre-back last season but Aké can be stabling influence this time around.

We have assessed the former Bournemouth defender’s credentials ahead of the new campaign, what impact he will have on the City defence and whether or not that can make him a viable Fantasy Premier League asset.

As we have used Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access this article in full.

What defensive contributions did Aké make last season?

Does anybody know where you can find weekly points scores from last season? If it’s in the members area then I’m missing where. I want to pull some post-lockdown stats for some player comparisons.

It seems to provide a load of info I don’t need and not the basic stuff I do (points) I suppose I could extract the data though and recalculate their scores.

Anyone have any experience of rotating 2 GK or Def that always have home game?

    Thought?
    Opinions?
    Recommendation?

Am thinking of doing it this year, as in theory it seems a sensible option.

    Cheers

I just never get it every new season when people go for a back four from the start when historically it's never worked for anyone. Maybe it could work in the short term but it would still be difficult to get the timing right, so why do people take such unnecessary risks

people don't stick to it long enough or just choose the wrong ones/go too cheap - they also get sucked into bandwagons that go nowhere thinking they are the next Mahrez

It works long term. The problem is the people who commit to it back out and get swayed trying to catch cheap attacking bandwagons instead

I started the past two seasons with 4-3-3. In 2018-19 I got into the top 10k almost immediately and never looked back. In 2019-20 it started slowly but it was easy to move towards 3-4-3 and I got back on track. If it goes wrong then it takes only 2-3 transfers to get a good 7th attacker.

For me if I'm looking at a 3-5-2 with Greenword vs a 4-4-2 with Robertson, I think I prefer the Robbo double up with TAA for 0.5 less.

This is what is leading me to a back 4.

Back fours work plenty well, if you have the right players. There isn't some magic curse on the formation that stops it from working even when the players are bringing in points consistently.

I watched that match, and Mitchell only came on as a sub when McCarthy went off injured. Riedewald started in PVA's position - Mitchell switched there when he came on (Jairo into midfield).

    TAA, Egan, Doherty

As a City fan who came to the club with the Claudio Reyna transfer from Sunderland, I have to say that I don't really want Messi at City. I'd rather see Phil Foden get the minutes and watch the young man develop.

Is this just some kind of Sun Jihai and Stephen Ireland inspired romantic nonsense about the "old City", or does anyone else out there get where I'm coming from?

I guess the bottom line is that I'm not that desperate to win the CL. There's just something unsatisfying about spending a crapton of money on a 33 year old midfielder in the name of chasing a year or two of silverware.

I was perfectly happy suffering along with City at mid-table prior to the Thai money prior to the oil money. Kinda miss being excited about how much better the club is gonna be now that we've got SWP and Ireland.

I've come to terms with the idea that City now have tons of money to spend, and in general the club's philosophy of investing in players who are relatively young has been easy to embrace as there's lots of time to get to know/love the players. A move for Messi, although the right thing to do in a "win now" mentality, just doesn't sit well with me. I didn't invest the time watching strikers like Jo and Samaras flailing in front of goal just to sell my soul for a quick fix.

I've been a City fan for longer than I can remember, and I just chose a 2005/06 Richard Dunne shirt over a Messi shirt as a minileague prize, so I definitely see where you're coming from. A lot of us are nostalgic for the old days but the club has to be ruthless now and it's a once-in-a-generation opportunity.

I think Foden deserved more minutes after Liverpool wrapped up the title, but with Silva gone he should get more minutes and will continue to develop regardless of whether Messi arrives. Pep was appointed as Barcelona manager just after Messi's 22nd birthday, so he knows how get the best out of young talent. The fact that Foden's training every day with world class players is a key part of his development - just think of what he can learn from one of the best players of all time!

I fear that ship has long since sailed

Football lost its soul years ago

Get Messi in & enjoy the short term fireworks, the whole house of cards that is elite club football is probably going to collapse in the next few years any ways

    How’s this?

Brewster isn't going to start ahead of Firminho. Good option if he moves on loan. I'm a bit wary of Newcastle assets, think they'll get relegated. Other than that its good.

Yeah guess I was hoping Brewster would go on loan...

I know what you mean re ASM, always wary of Newcastle assets

        Good alternative?

Armstrong perhaps, but ASM passed the eye test when I watched him.

            SBC ??

I’ve just done a reshuffle and Armstrong as an alternative to Ings, Mitro up top and Greenwood is a nice team and gives a united asset for GW2

Yeah thanks for bringing him to my attention, I’ve worked Armstrong back in as Soton cover for transferring out Ings

            Keita nailed??

Messi isn't leaving Barca. The president has resigned and that's what he wanted and why he threatened to leave.

Thought it seemed strange and it was out of character for him after all the leadership qualities he has shown.
      Glad it had a purpose

Where have you seen that he's resigned? All I can find are protests against him.

should we decide now when to wc to pick players with better fixtures ?
for example first int break and pick only for first 4 matches ??
or just pick players and use wc when it's mostly needed ?

Are there any articles re the differences and variations between the EPL pre and post lockdown?

Would be really interesting to see average goals scored per match, cleans sheets etc in each part of the season

That would be a great signing. Lampard will probably take them close to the title without him too
