Who assisted the Arsenal goals last night?

Yes, and I’m very surprised you haven’t joined yet. Multiple +10k finishes required to join. Amazing imaginary prizes on offer, many of which I can’t remember at the the moment, but include:

          1. Prominent place at Round Table
          2. Guaranteed knighthood
          3. Second crack at post tourney feasting
          4. Personalised helm, not great helm but
          5. Brand new jousting stick.

However, if a horse wins, and there are many horses about, they would win a brand new Shaffron and Crinet! A Crupper too if you take out the Tourney! We have nudists, we have lurkers, we have Mods (not the Australian Mod yet, but), and we’ve put the call out the Content Creators! Barca assisted Saka's goal. A blunder.

He was instrumental for the second but Ødegaard set it up i think.

Almirón slightly ahead of March, Groß, Mitoma and Eze on points per match last season but less minutes.

He had 11 goals and 4 assists in 29 starts. Is he likely to be more involved for Newcastle this season?

1,411 minutes in all comps, so about 16 90’s.

For context, he scored 9 goals in 1,763 minutes before 2023. 6 of those came in October.

His positioning wasn't good at the end of last season. Too wide and not in goalscoring areas. And I'm his biggest fan having jumped on him really early too.

No go until we see the underlying stats and position look favorable.

    A) Estupinan, Chilwell, Ndombele (or whatever 4.5m mid)
    B) Webster (or the new signing Igor Julio), Baldock, Mbuemo

With B, Mbuemo or Trent is benched week 1.
With A, Chilwell is benched week 1.

I watched the Millionarios v Palace game on youtube. It was in Spanish.

I spent the first few minutes wondering who 'Hucks' was for Palace. Must be a new player?

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0KbVcfpSK4

      The commentator meant Hughes!

From the look of it seemed to be a Palace second string side

      https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/match-reports/live-blog-report-highlights-crystal-palace-millionarios-chicago/

Palace: Matthews (GK); Ward (Mitchell, 62 (Gordon, 81)), Andersen (O’Brien, 45), Guéhi (Tomkins, 45), Clyne, Lerma (Eze, 62), Rïedewald (Doucouré, 62), Hughes (Schlupp, 62), Ahamada, Mateta (Edouard, 45), Ayew

Palace unlucky to lose late penalty conceded for a Schlupp handball.

Eze assist from corner for the Palace goal - for O'Brien to head in.

Can anyone fill me in on how Villa will set up at the back this season?

I’m seeing Pau in some teams, but he played a full season last year with 1 goal and 0 assists.

Was Young covering Cash being out last season? Is he straight back in?

Think I prefer a Villa defender over Newcastle, Brentford, West Ham, Brighton or Everton.

For 4.5m you're looking for a reasonable chance of clean sheets. Any more than that is just greedy.
The interesting dilemma is Pau and Mings are both left-footed. Will Mings play on the right of CD or will he be dropped? Remains to be seen.

Cash missed a decent few games through injury but came back in when fit. Young had been ahead of him for a bit when Emery tried out a few different things (including Cash at RM which didn't really work) but Cash finished the season well

          Thanks.

I think I’ll put Cash in for now and continue to monitor.

I’m thinking of starting the season with Chilwell and/or Stones, so sensible to have decent cover. Normally have a 4.0, but might go with two 4.5s as 4th and 5th defenders.

I had a quick look at Sheffield United preseason so far it does not look good for them. They seem to concede and struggle for goals?

25 July Rotherham 1-0 Sheff Utd

I watched a few Luton games from the end of last season and thought they were decent. Were very impressive in the playoff semi 2nd leg against Sunderland, were very well organised and despite Sunderland's attacking talents restricted them to barely any decent chances. Early days to judge yet but definitely not a great start for Sheffield Utd

            1. I always seem to aim for GW8-9 & play it in 4-5 anyway. Just think there's so much new info in the first 4 weeks or so & I rarely feel the need to overhaul my team after that.
            2. ARS/MCI/LIV/MUN are fairly fixture proof in my eyes. But Newcastle, Villa & Brighton I am more likely to switch around on fixtures.
            3. Starting with a really cheap defence but will be WC defence around Trippier & Moreno I think.
            4. I know I can watch loads of games in full up to 17th Sept but maybe less so after that

      Overrated Arsenal attack

Only safe player in Arsenal attack is Saka. Odegard will play too but nobody thinks he can overperform as he did last season.
Attacking returns will be divided by Saka, Odegard, Martinelli, Trossard, Havertz, Jesus. Last season midfielders got more than their share because Jesus was out for a while. Trossard came in midseason, so he will eat away returns for a full season this time. Now add Haverz and there won't be much for each even if Arsenal scores as many goals as last season.

      1. Boberella
        • 7 Years

I’m staring with Jesus and Odegaard. Odegaard will be a season keeper but Jesus can moved to a plethora of options in that position and price bracket early on if need be.

Teams do obviously benefit from being able to concentrate on the league.

But i think there's plenty of good options and attacking opportunities in both Arsenal and Brighton again.

Just need to get it right at the right time.

Careful with that dismissive attitude. Martinelli still scored 100pts in the 2nd half of the season despite being subbed 12/17 starts

          • 4 Years

Not trying to be dismissive but to challenge the template. I don't see Trossard and Havertz staying in the bench all the time and Jesus being injured. Martinelli is my favourite and this idea just came as I was watching Trossard slam two against Barcelona (highlights) while Martinelli was invisible, I think he got one undeserved assist from a long shot. Arsenal mids are going to be a headache and I don't even trust Jesus' minutes that much.

Fair enough but the competition played and did very well, so that's a problem. If ManU scores a couple I am confident that Fernandes and Rashford have been involved, not so sure about any one Arsenal player.

Suspect most transfers this season will be rotating the 9-7.5m mids based on form/fixtures

are there any differential Liverpool options worth a punty gw2 cap? Diaz should be first choice? Possibly even Darwin instead of Jesus (and get second Arsenal mid)?

Hoping for some clarity as pre-season progresses.

      A) Nkunku (Start) + Porro + Ahamada + Kabore (Bench)
      B) Mbeumo (Start) + Chilwell + Henry + Mubama (Bench)

I think I'm pretty comfortable going without United defence at the start of the season.

I think the 4.5m GKs in Johnstone, Flekken and Steele are better than Onana.

I have Estu, Stones, Gabriel and Chilwell ahead of Shaw as my preferred defenders.

I'm not. I think United defense is good value and the fixtures are good.

Onana will hoover up bonus points in that team btw. His baseline is gonna be even higher than Shaw the bonus king.

Their main goalscorer is as bad as Salah at getting bonus and Hojlund if he comes won't play every match. Bruno the only one who can regularly take away bonus from Onana.

Even ignoring the fact that we don't know whether Flekken will start, in their opening 5 fixtures I only expect Palace and Brentford to get 2 clean-sheets. Fancy Brighton and United to get 3 each, but again we don't know if Steele is first-choice.

Also fancy Onana to be a BAPS magnet.

Is Brighton attack/midfield expected to be all rotation, apart from Mitoma and Gross?

Gross probably going to be in the back 4.

      What's better?

      A) Salah, Martinelli, Paqueta
      B) Saka, Son, Sancho

This is for FanTeam so the combinations are a bit different pricing wise.

      Martinelli, Bruno, Ode, March, Foden
      Jackson, Haaland

      Bentley, Pau, Baldock,.Archer

Im on Raya, now i learn he's leaving and i see Flekken in many teams.

Would not do that, because i wanted Raya for his individual capabilities (saves and BPS - Pope-ish), not the team defense system.

If anything, i believe Brentford defense would be a good deal worse than last year.

So Salah is essential now is he? He's only started appearing in the last week, too many 8.5 and 9.0 options, money better spent elsewhere....

      What changed?

Only 3 of those 8-9 million options are even half as good as they’re being made out so if you can fit all them plus Haaland and Salah into a team you cover all bases.
