The Community Round Up

Basking in the glow of a sensational Gameweek 8 score, many of the community were still counting up their goals and assists long after the final whistle last Sunday. We glance back at another sensational display from Sergio Aguero and Southampton’s players and look ahead to the coming Gameweeks, with hidden Fantasy gems and new managerial appointments dominating discussion. Elsewhere, we catch up on the latest Members tables as well as find out what effect last weekend’s goalfest had on our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Swansea’s dip in form while Tottenham and Crystal Palace’s ability to finally find their feet this season are the key issues discussed in Rakkhi’s team trends analysis of the first eight Gameweeks.

Congratulations to The 3rd Turd whose analysis of Fantasy Football radars and bubbles have earned him £20 Amazon voucher after winning the Community article of the month vote for September.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Liverpool’s sacking of Brendan Rodgers and wooing of former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was amongst the hot topics discussed during this week’s international break. Berbinho’s Forehead’s focus was on Rodgers differences with Liverpool’s transfer committee, while Numb pondered whether Klopp will flop.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott was dramatically dumped by John Terry’s Dog as his affections move across the capital to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. His break up letter to the Arsenal man proved a real tearjerker.

Trigg has been asking which have been the community’s worst transfers. Could dumping Walcott be added to that list when it is refreshed in a few Gameweeks time?

There may be some more broken hearts should the community’s hidden gems for the coming Gameweeks fail to shine.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand was among the key names mentioned as differential prospects and was also discussed in Rodellegabomb’s hot topic on the Saints more settled backline.

For the second year running, Gameweek 8 proved pivotal to many of our community who backed Southampton’s assets, as well as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero with the captain’s armband. Last season Aguero scored four against Tottenham, while Southampton humiliated Sunderland. Both were at it again this season, with the Argentine striker scoring five against Newcastle and Southampton putting Chelsea to the sword. A more detailed look back at what was a week to savour for many can be found in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the Bookies say update.

The spooky coincidence of Gameweek 8’s repeated success for many of our community also sparked a discussion on other illogical Fantasy Football folklores.

In the more immediate future, though, Aguero owners are facing a nervous wait to see the extent of an injury picked up while on international duty for Argentina. Here we look at some of the potential scenarios and contingency plans should he face a lengthy lay-off.

Another star of Gameweek 8 was Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. His two wonder free-kicks against Swansea inspired Demi to start a discussion on Europe’s best free kick specialists.

Amongst the community, EnglishNo7 was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Gameweek 8’s goal-a-thon. He finds himself at the top of the Fantasy Premier League Fantasy Football Scout league and dropped by to deliver some words of wisdom for his fellow Fantasy managers.

Finally, while FPL is the main game for much of our community there are plenty of other Fantasy Football games out there, from weekly contests to draft games. Here the community offered their thoughts on coping with the multi-Fantasy football experience.

The Members Tables

For those eyeing up Southampton players, I’ve made this table looking at their key attacking assets. Elsewhere, Doosra has made this table looking at this season’s best deadball specialists and the Sportsguy has turned to shots on target to find the brightest midfield diamonds.

Giggs Boson has been looking at those players that are scoring well from few opportunities or shots on target. There was further discussion around this ‘lethal or imposter’ table and the ways it can be interpreted here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

There were some huge scores in round 2 of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament, according to his latest update.

Niclas Andersson’s tally of 118 in Gameweek 8 meant he has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. He now sits in 144th overall and also retains top spot in the FFS Old Farts Club league, for our community’s elders as well as first place in the Long and Winding Road main league.

There’s no stopping Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. He remains in first after recording an impressive score of 110 in Gameweek 8. Greenwindmill is the latest to take second place in an attempt to catch him.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Gecko hit the top score in Gameweek 8 with 131 where the safety score was set at 61. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details visit here.

Finally, here’s a reminder from Jarvish of his Blank Weekend Challenge competition. This focuses on some of the lower English league players and is ideal for those keen to scratch their Fantasy Football itch during the international break.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Have Aguero and Silva. Want to take one out this week, who'll be dropping faster?

Even if you haven't got time / can't be bothered to research fully, why not just pick a team at random - you might get lucky? All the attackers in each group are designed to be as similar in scoring potential as possible to each other, and League One is notoriously unpredictable anyway!

Competition is totally free to enter and you might win a £10 Amazon voucher, so nothing to lose....... 🙂

He's burnt me so many times in the past.

Injury-proneness is definitely something to take into account with this game. Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, David Silva, and Sergio Aguero have demonstrated this already.

In the first half of City v Newcastle, the Magpies were kicking City's arse. Wijnaldum could be a decent differential over his run of great fixtures. Is he on pens when Cisse isn't playing?

Ok, but it is essentially a valuation of Newcastle players, not the strength of the opposition only, which I mean by "fixtures". And if someone is looking at New player it is surely better at NOR -7 than say CITY -1000 🙂

This is what happens when the ticker is based on the level of the team having fixtures, instead of looking only at the fixtures at that point. It basically deprives you of some information that could be valuable as such.

No, that it doesn't do. You will miss the information about the plain fixtures. Those who use a traditional ticker to get that information, can then _after_ that factor in the team whose fixtures it is about.

    from bottom of last page

    Myhill, Butland
    KOMPANY, Souare, Prodl, Richards, GOMEZ
    Sanchez, YAYA, Mane, Payet, Mahrez
    KUN, Vardy, Ighalo

    2.2m ITB

Was going to do Yaya > KDB, but am worried about not being able to field an eleven for the second week running, and how KDB will be effected if there's no Yaya, Silva, Kompany and Kun in the City side.

    What's my best option

    A) Yaya > KDB
    B) Kun > Lukaku
    C) Gomez > Toby

    All would be for hits

B.....Kun and Westwood to lukaku and mane for a hit...playing 352?

    Currently have

    Kolarov clyne Dawson Francis oshea
    Sanchez mahrez payet kdb Westwood
    Martial kun ighalo

    Thanks

Similar question, see below. If no hits taken yet, i'd do it. My only hesitation is i'm already on -4

I'd go for the hit. Don't like Ighalo's chances vs Arsenal.

      So B.

  7. Joshua1

I'd value some second opinions as I imagine some are in similar positions - already went -4 to ride price rises on Pelle and KDB, with the injury i'm contemplating my first -12. Kun - Lukaku; Westwood - Mane. Leaves me with:

    Payet Sanchez KDB Mane Mahrez
    Pelle Lukaku Vardy

    1.7 ITB

I'd play all-out-attack for this week then (hopefully!) get to work on my defence. Normally I avoid benching headaches but this injury has changed my mind..I can't resist Mane on this form and a southampton double-up feels the way forward for the next 5. Thoughts?

I wouldn't do a -12, either play 4-4-2 (with current team) or just Kun > Lukaku, then bring in Mane for free next week.

When are people planning on playing their WC (those that still have them)?

If say I wanted to make 4-5 transfers now, would that be enough for people to want to pull the trigger?

    1. Camp No No
      • 10 Years

If you have just 1 FT, then yeah, why not.

      1. Camp No No
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 7 months ago

But depends on how important those transfers are. If it's just a bunch of knee jerk moves, then it's another case of wildcard destroying the season. If you have 4-5 injured players, then that's exactly what wildcard is for.

        1. CABAYE4
          • 12 Years

Aguero and Ivan need to go, and I'd like to be able to replace Martial and Sterling but wouldn't make the transfers for hits.

Plus there's always the risk of more international injuries.

I don't want to leave it too close to Xmas as I think it's a lottery and could be a bit of a waste.

Silva out means less service for Bony.

Already have Pelle and Vardy so my Aguero replacement options are pretty much limited for Costa and Lukaku.

With those fixtures surely Costa should score goal or two.

Costa will also likely pick up a yellow or two and no bps.

I like Sturridge as an opt better than Costa.

I expect a honeymoon period for Pool with the Klopp appointment

Sunderland have created more chances this season that Newcastle.

In fact, they are rock bottom of the league in that category along with shots and shots in the box.

I don't care how 'good' the fixtures look, they are just awful.

I'm not going to argue that we've played well over the first couple of months. However we have had awful fixtures, and i mean awful.

We've played last years top 4, Southampton, and had trips to Swansea and West Ham in 8 games.

Realistically I wouldn't expect us to win any of those games, and we haven't!

Yes we lost to Watford too, but we had a lot of chances to win that game and didn't take them.

I don't think Mitrovic is worth the hassle with Vardy, Pelle, Ighalo etc. firing.

Janmaat is immense but I'd like him to be a bit cheaper before I got him.

Fair enough. I hope you get some results the next couple weeks.

You guys have way too much talent IMO to be in the position you are in right now.

Janmaat is possibly one of the most underrated fulllbacks in the league.

If we don't get at least 4 points over the next 3 games, then we are officially useless!

We've got a decent squad, we just lack leaders in key positions (CB, CF).

There were also encouraging signs against CTY in the first half (from an attacking perspective, at least)

If you're on wildcard would it be wise to drop kolarov with clichys imminent return?

They're bound to rotate especially since kolarov has been defensively suspect.

Might just ensure I have two starting defenders on the bench instead.

    Opinions?

hate decisions about whether to WC or not. have already done
    sterling+ hazard >> sanchez + payet (-4)

    butland - ruddy*
Azpi* jevans* huth* kolorav --- Francis
mane mahrez sanchez payet -- fetch*
    Martial deeney --- kun*

    A: kun >>> xxx (-4)..
    B: play huth
C: WC..avoids 8 point hit..can effectively distribute kun money but already missed out on price rises and tv is crap

*remove these players if I WC..mostly defence

Aguero to Bony frees up the funds to do:

    Mahrez to KDB

    Or

    Westwood to Walcott

    Which is better?

      • 8 Years

I take it Westwood to walcott would leave you with a strong 5 midfield ? Who's your other strikers ? Will you be struggling to drop one of your front eight each week ?

Yeah that would be a very strong midfield 5... Westwood to Walcott would leave me with Sanchez, Mata, Payet, Mahrez and Walcott.

My strikers are currently Aguero, Martial and Ighalo. Guess Igahlo falls perfectly into the droppable category whenever Watford don't have an easy fixture.

Has to be Weatwood to Walcott when you put it like that, doesn't it?

    AOA?

    Butland

    Kolarov / Dann

Sanchez / De Bruyne / Payet / Walcott / Mahrez

    Pelle / Gomis / Martial

can't see a better time to use it? The transfers i'd make would be aguero out for pelle and wanyama out for walcott? Other defenders are williams, gabriel and targett...

Costa seems determined to get back to goalscoring form and hopefully this 3 match ban made him realize he needs to calm down a bit.

This article made me Aguero -> Costa:
