Community Round-up: World Cup Fantasy and FPL divide attention

As was the case last week, the Fantasy Football Scout Community’s attention has been split roughly down the middle with Fantasy World Cup approaching its climax and the launch of Fantasy Premier League 2018/19 provoking debate.

Rainer and the exquisitely named Ohhh Shola Ameobi helped bridge the two games with a look at the Premier League teams most affected by the ongoing tournament and when the players involved in the 2014 World Cup returned to domestic action.

We’ve got a round-up of the week’s hot topics, and the usual array of Community tables and competitions, in our regular article below.

The Hottest Topics

This time last week, we were midway through the World Cup quarter-finals and Legomane asked whether sticking or twisting was the best option regarding Fantasy World Cup captaincy.

G-Whizz returned with his regular clean sheet odds hot topic ahead of the semi-finals, while rainy mused on the anticlimax that was the yellow card count.

Rainer, meanwhile, helpfully pointed out that Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea could be badly hit by their players returning late from international duty.

Before the semi-finals commenced, our Community discussed their transfers, captains and chips. With England and Belgium set to contest the third-place play-off later today, Siva Mohan looked at the rotation between the semi-finals and the fairly meaningless “bronze medal” match in the 2014 World Cup.

Legomane returned with a stick-or-twist semi-final special, as did G-Whizz with his last look at the clean sheet odds of this World Cup.

Ohhh Shola Ameobi examined the precedent of when the Premier League players involved in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup returned to their respective clubs.

World Cup ongoing or not, there’s no escaping the buzz around the FFS Community regarding the FPL launch.

Maximus Bonimus Pointimus asked if other managers adopted a player-orientated or structure-based approach to their Gameweek 1 squads, while Giggs Boson looked at the merits of both goalkeeper rotation and one Charlie Daniels.

Holding Matip held court while discussing five at the back and value according to position, while HamezMace floated the idea of a very early wildcard.

Rich2086 and Prøfeßor Bear gave a rundown of the Wolves side and warned us not to write off their assets, before CloudSky looked at some of the eye-catching fixture runs in the first quarter of the season.

Eden Wizard, meanwhile, suggested that Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero could well play together at the start of the season.

Norman Conquest rounded up the latest additions to the FPL game and their respective prices.

Our “members only” hot topics concentrated on the Rate My Team launch and, using this tool, what the best team over the first six Gameweeks would be.

The Eliteserien summer break was also a source of discussion, with Dupuytrens looking ahead to the transfer window and European Under-19 Championship.

Community Tables

Our members have been hard at work this week, creating no fewer than 13 public stats tables. FPL Virgin, in particular, has been beavering away, creating nine of those tables including the best defence of last season and the talisman theory.

Wainright looked at defenders who made the most penalty box touches, while easilythebest listed the players who had the most “big chances” last season.

Hotdogs-for-tea, meanwhile, rounded up the defenders who created the most chances and were the most attacking in 2017/18.

Community Tournaments

Ahead of the third-place play-off and final, competition in the Fantasy Football Scout mini-league for the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game is hotting up. The current top of the league reads as follows:

1. Sladuna (385 points)
2. Lincon316 (363 points)
3. Ludaslol (362 points)
4. SmokinBadger (361 points)
5=. Matt5138008 (358 points)
5=. McGettigan16 (358 points)

Our Mods and Cons league, meanwhile, shaped up like this:

1. ZidanRamos (336 points)
2. GSumner (323 points)
3. JohannesN (309 points)
4. Jackpenn (300 points)
5. Matzi11a (296 points)

The latest update for Frøgball, which uses combined Fantasy scores to represent different nations, is here.

If you are running a community tournament or are thinking about starting one, and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet, or head to head competition at geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

If he's a starter in a position that Monreal isn't competing with him for, then he's an absolute no-brainer for me, Clive.

    What should I do?
Want ramsey, pogba, kdb and lacazette/auba
But some are not available for fiest 1-2 gameweeks and arsenal players have 2 tough fixtures
And planning to get them does not seem great idea
    Any suggestion?

Unai will play aggressively. He says he likes heavy pressing high up the pitch and likes his team to have the ball. I think every one of his games will have goals.

We have some great attacking managers this season in Guardiola, Klopp, Unai & Sarri. Pick the right attacking players from these four sides and you should get goals.

I know this well as an arsenal fan. But scoring againts city is so difficult as they dominate the game
And game in stamfordbridge is tough too!
Ramsey and lacazette are best arsenal asset imo, but will get lacazette later instead of firmino
Another issue is that I have mendy + ederson !

Klopp showed that if you press City aggressively you can cause them problems.

We need to wait and see with Arsenal and Chelsea. Pre-season might show us who to get.

That's what I meant. He might be a good option eventually, but he is the kind of player that needs a particular type of coach. He didn't fit in under a demanding Mourinho, and he also never really settled under Klopp, it was first when tuchel came in he really blossomed

Not seeing many teams with Mahrez. Is there a feeling he'll be eased in or just not nailed? For me, you don't smash your transfer record for a rotation player, he'll be first choice

I too am interested in Mahrez, but am concerned about even more rotation in the City front lines. Just too many quality players that Pep will have to find minutes for...

I think I might roll the dice and start with Mahrez. 0.5m cheaper than Sane and I think he'll start the season what with post wc rests.

Has a shot at making that slot his to lose.

Two of Him, Sterling, Sané should start every game, it’s just knowing which two. With Sterling out for the first few games Mahrez should be a great pick.

Viable to double up with him/Sané?

Any good intelligence on how Cairney, Ralls and Neves compared last year?

They’re all 5.0’s but wondering are they accurately priced or are they about 1.0 - 1.5 cheaper than they should be?

I've seen it written that Ralls could be as much a 1.0 underpriced, but I have no clue, there. From the information I have on Cairney and Neves, as well as from watching clips, I believe they will prove to be priced correctyl at best 🙂

Think Cairney generally plays a little higher up the pitch than Neves.

Would try to squeeze 0.5 and get Delou instead personally.

Fulham were awarded 11 penalties during the 2016/17 Championship season.

Unfortunately they only converted four of them.

Scoring from the penalty spot was something of a problem for the Whites players last season. No fewer than five players stepped up to take one from 12 yards, with Tim Ream, Stefan Johansen and Sone Aluko all missing the one they took.

Chris Martin took five, scoring only two, while skipper Tom Cairney had the best record, scoring two of the three he stepped up to take responsibility for.

Maybe we shouldn’t get Fulham assets for their abilities from the spot 😆

Just looking goals scored it’s not terrible, but not fantastic either:

        Cairney (27) 5 in 34
        Ralls (24) 7 in 37
        Neves (21) 6 in 36

Neves probably has the most scope for improvement given he’s only 21, but they’re all quite young so might deal well with the step up.

If you add a few assists in & set pieces they could justify a 5.0 bench slot or even 4th mid quite easily.

          • 8 Years

It's not enough for me. The numbers are likely to reduce this season, which leaves you with a maximum of 6 goals (Cairney got 6/37 including playoffs) spread over 38 GWs. In other words, massive strings of 2 points. May as well get a 4.5 mid and uses the money on a defender for your starting XI, first or second bench slot. Hughes at Watford is one who looks capable of more than 5 a season.

    RMT for the day

    Ederson
    Robertson, Coleman, PVA, Cedric
    Salah, Sane, Mahrez
    Firmino, Tosun, Zaha

    4.0, Cairney, Stephens, Bednarek

Understand Jorginho's signing has alerted Crystal Palace and West Ham. They both want to take Ruben Loftus Cheek on a season long loan.

RLC will speak to Sarri after the World Cup to find out where he stands in the current Chelsea squad. He won't stay if he isn't going to play.

If Loftus Cheek stays at Chelsea then either Danny Drinkwater or Cesc Fabregas will leave the club.

Yeah, I'd say in theory he'd play in front of Jorginho and Kante. I think it's more likely he'll go out on loan again. Drinky won't get a look-in and I'm not sure Fabregas has a future.

True. He had a phenomenal season, I agree. But given all the rotation, spending 11m on him would be too ballsy; unless he starts converting all the easy chances that he misses and absolutely nails his spot (starts 8 out of 10 league games maybe).

i'm seeing a lot of Mahrez and Sane in RMT's, but not much love for D silva. Any good reason for this? On paper, Silva looks a much better pick since

    (a) He had a higher points per game ratio than either Mahrez or Sane (or KDB for that matter) last season.
    (b) He is the cheapest of the lot.
    (c) When he's available, he's close to nailed on.

IMO, he's extremely versatile and he can also play the AM/number 8 position that Baldie Silva currently plays.
