The Community Round-up: Price rises, KDB and premium defenders

The Fantasy Football Scout Community have been dealing with the fallout from Gameweek 1 this week, with everything covered from early price changes to Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury.

As well as the usual array of superb discussions in the comments this week, there have been some welcome article and table submissions that can help with our planning for Gameweek 2 and beyond.

Our latest Community Round-up feature has it all covered.

The Hottest Topics

Our community’s dissection of Gameweek 1 began with detailed analyses of three of the weekend’s fixtures, with maltasi, Bruce Lee and Parm offering some real insight into the Watford v Brighton, Bournemouth v Cardiff and Fulham v Crystal Palace fixtures respectively.

Richarlison had his owners worried after limping from the field in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Wolves, but facer reassured us with what turned out be a spot-on appraisal of the Brazilian’s injury.

With the start of a new season came the return of our regular What Have We Learned? and Rough with the Smooth topics, the latter of which featured RedLightning‘s early ascent to the top of the Mods and Cons league.

The Gameweek 1 picks of 15 Hall of Famers were the subject of rent_boy‘s FPL player analysis, meanwhile.

Eden Wizard was the winner of our Scout Pick Community Lottery for Gameweek 2, as attention turned to this forthcoming weekend.

The Community discussed the pros and cons of gambling on an early transfer, while G-Whizz rounded up the “Doosra stats”, fixture odds and clean sheet odds to help with our planning.

The repercussions of Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury sparked debate, with Parm providing a deeper analysis of Manchester City’s tactical tweaks in the 2-0 win over Arsenal. Becks also gave us his predictions on what City’s line-up may look like this Sunday in De Bruyne’s absence.

ZoumasBloomers asked us for our favourite FPL goal of all time – as well as the goal that has hurt you the most.

DJDave1979 pondered if some premium defenders were season-keepers, while the indefatigable TorresMagic was back to round up the early price rises and drops. Cheers, TM!

COMMUNITY TABLES

There are numerous user-generated tables to pore over this week:

COMMUNITY ARTICLES

We have had some brilliant articles submitted this week, which all proved to be an enjoyable read. TopMarx provided some excellent research into what constitutes a successful season in FPL  looking at how the increase in managers and quantity of players using different websites for advice have both changed the parameters somewhat.

We continued our series of RMTs by having a look at RedLightning’s team for Gameweek 2  while MathewNixon treated us to part two of Everton’s Silva Lining.

COMMUNITY TOURNAMENTS

There was a fast start in FFS Mods and Cons for RedLightning, with TorresMagic and Ragabolly off to flyers too. Deputy editor Skonto Rigga is also currently in the top five after Gameweek 1, narrowly ahead of our very own Joe:

1. RedLightning – 104 points
2. TorresMagic – 98 points
3. Ragabolly – 91 points
4. Skonto Rigga – 90 points
5. Joe – 89 points

Meanwhile, a Bench Boost has fired Vladimir Jelenić to the summit of the public FantasyFootballScout league:

1. Vladimir Jelenić – 133 points
2. Warren Lim – 131 points
3. Ben Wheatcroft – 129 points
4. Andy Davies – 122 points
5. Petri Selkäinaho – 119 points

In our Members’ league, Nick Howard also deployed his Bench Boost chip to great effect:

1. Nick Howard – 129 points
2. Alistair Ross – 118 points
3. Takeshi Igomoto – 117 points
4. Timothy Wright – 112 points
5=. Rickhard Alen/Luke Aiello/Aron Hogni Georgsson – 111 points

I hate the idea (C) Kun then having to watch Salah on the Monday night game hoping he doesn't do well despite him being in my team. Overthinking it I know...

This is my only negative to Aguero Captain.

I normally veer towards a MNF captain, just feels better.

  5. Do you captain Aguero?
    Niemi

As the topic has been constantly coming up over the last few hours, I think it's deserving it's own hot topic.

An article in the Guardian written by Jamie Jackson is claiming that Pep Guardiola is considering dropping Sergio Aguero against Huddersfield. The article was retweeted by Jose Alvarez Haya on Twitter, which many regards as a great source for City info.

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/aug/17/manchester-city-kevin-de-bruyne-injury

Do you believe Aguero will be benched tomorrow?

Aguero owners, what do you do with him? Do you captain him or not? Do you risk captaining him when Salah offers a decent alternative? Is it worth owning an 11m forward that you won't captain at home to Huddersfield?

    1. Aɴᴛᴇᴄᴇᴅᴇɴᴛ
      • 5 Years

Hey guys my names Mike. I own Aguero and will be captaining him.
      Cheers.

        Own him and will captain.

If he does not start I would imagine 99% of people on here will look to move on.

Why keep him at 11.0 if that happens?

Captaining still. Article is unreferenced. Retweet means nothing. Salah (VC) seems OK assuming Kun won't play at all.

      1. Niemi

Not a rest, he's suggesting Pep Guardiola prefers Jesus. He's actually been saying it multiple times over the last few months. If he's to be believed he has also been stating that Pep Guardiola isn't totally convinced by Sterling and that Mahrez could take his place in the team over the season.

Unfortunately that's not how it works. They have no culpability now that someone else is taking responsibility for the claim, and I'm guessing their reports are simply saying "according to The Guardian", which does enough to satisfy their low bar for credibility of (Sports) journalism. They know their audience, and we'll accept rumours as our main "information" source for the whole Summer. This is hardly breaking the rules 😀

It's not an impossible scenario. You are Pep and you have Jesus, a young player relying on form and confidence. You want to get the best out of him and 'get him going' - Huddersfield home game seems perfect for it.

But with no KdB the front line of Jesus, Sterling, Bernie, Sane and Mahrez just seems a bit too young and inexperienced.

Personally I went triple City with Walker + Mendy + Bilva.
I opted for Aubameyang as my 11.0 striker.

Firstly, Aguero is not 100% nailed every week. This is clear now, as people are debating not giving him the armband - there is always a chance of rotation! I'm not willing to pay 11.0 for a striker who I may not be willing to captain.

Secondly, I decided that over the first 8-10 gameweeks, I fancied Aubameyang to get more points than Aguero, and didn't want to waste points on a transfer after a couple of weeks - Auba is perfectly capable of scoring in tough fixtures.

Thirdly, I thought that Mendy and Walker offered more over their similarly priced counterparts (apart from Robertson) than Aguero did over Aubameyang - in fact it isn't even clear whether Aguero is better than Aubameyang! Last week this didn't work out as well with some huge defensive scores and only 7 from Walker but I think over the course of the next 7-8 weeks it will work in my favour.

If I did own Aguero, though, I'd captain him. You don't get an 11.0 striker of his class and not cap him against Huddersfield. If it backfires, the fault is in owning him, no captaining him.

Mendy, Mahrez and BSilva for me.

Knew I'd never trust Aguero(c) and that's before considering the masses that will go Salah(c). Don't want to be in a position like last season where I'm wanting Salah to blank.

But if you look closely at his Twitter there's no insight to be found there. Just a guy who cares about city and Aguero, retweeting groundless assumptions, because he's intrigued and worried too.

Well they are right , he will be benched but nobody except for Pep knows if it will be from the start or after a hattrick in the 72nd minute!

Also by the way if you capt Aguero then you will still have a 13mil player with a decent fixture that you are not capping, so is that worth it? 🙂

So the guardian suggests he might be benched but the Express, Sun, talksport, standard and goal all predict he will play.
Why believe the guardian over 5 other media predictions?

Captaining - the Huddersfield game was the reason I started the season with him. I appreciate there's a risk of him not starting but honestly I don't think it's any greater now that an article appeared randomly saying he might be benched without revealing any source.

If he comes on for 1 point it's not the end of the world as I had a pretty good GW1 and can absorb the losses.

I feel like after a good first week for most experienced players, those of us who have the 'template' players need to differentiate ourselves with a good captain to push into the top 10k+; now is the time to take such a risk

There was a point last season when Aguero put in a hatty and many of us didn't understand why we hadn't trusted in one of the best strikers to ever be in fpl to provide for us; if you have in your team, why do you have him if you're not willing to captain him at home to one of the weakest teams in the league?

Of course it worries me, I can't deny that... But the problem with the article is that it's baseless mind-reading. It doesn't even attempt to go beyond "Aguero didn't score in the last game, so..." in its reasoning.

And now, with de Bruyne out, and David Silva not ready yet (or whatever the reason for his possible absence) I would suppose that Pep will want some experience up front.

Aguero (c) for me. Personally I think Aguero can offer good returns from a start or on as a sub. His Aug 2011 debut set the tone with 2 goals and an assist from he bench and there been plenty of bench goals since. Start or off the bench, in think he can deliver better or as well as others this week. Clearly I would rather more pitch mins than less.

😀 I definitely wouldn't mind both of them. I considered it strongly before GW1, but felt I had to go for the value of Walker's replacements in VVD, Robertson,PVA, TAA, Sakho, Tomkins and.ore Wan-Bissaka. Walker was basically next on my list after all of those, and probably still would be at this stage (though Pool player become less valuable as we get closer to their reasonably difficult streak fomrcapre to City's fixtures). Fair play with the double-up though, good luck

I think it's a terrible idea. He'll probably start but not even 100% sure of starting. You will have better opportunities further into the season

Very unsure about whether i should drop Mahrez for B. Silva or keep for this GW. I feel like there's going to be a double Silva plus Sterling behind Kun/Jesus. Or maybe B.Silva, Sanè and Sterling.

        Stick with Mahrez

Mahrez will score points when he is on the field in the next few weeks and also more set pieces with KdB out.

Worth shipping out Patricio > Hart don't have any BUR defence and think it's vital to not go without them for the meantime like

Yeah he will be third choice pretty much but good for short term I'd say

No from me Hart could be dropped for Heaton in a few weeks , so a bit risky. Maybe try to get a defender instead they are still good value at 5mil.

Was all set on Aguero captain. Now I'm doubting it. I'm gonna captain him this week and if it backfires I'm gonna use my 2 ft to get Kane in. Can't be doing with this every week again.

I’m bored of Kun vs salah, Bilva vs Dilva, Sanchez to Bilva, KDB to who articles. When can we start discussing the important topics like with KDB being ruled out for 3 months will that increase Yayas minutes and will he take pens of Kun?

Well that is a good question with a boring answer, he left City and is still a free agent so will not be getting any minutes or penalties i'm afraid...

I read earlier that some of Pep's press conference was under a media embargo until 10.30 tonight. No idea how true but I'm counting down the minutes.
