Team of the Season – David De Gea

David De Gea has been named the Fantasy Football Scout goalkeeper of the season after winning our recent poll.

The Manchester United man finished 2017/18 with the highest total score among shot stoppers (172 points), while also claiming the Premier League Golden Glove for the first time in his career.

He topped our poll with 49.6% of the votes, edging Burnley’s Nick Pope into second on 33.5%.

De Gea took a very different route to success, compared with last term’s top scoring keeper, Tom Heaton.

While the budget Burnley man hit the summit by combining 10 clean sheets with his dominance of the save count (149) and bonus points (21), De Gea did so as a luxury asset whose large number of shutouts and save points ultimately justified a lofty starting price of £5.5m.

The Spaniard’s tally of 18 clean sheets was made all the more impressive considering no other keeper has recorded that many in an FPL season since Joe Hart in 2012/13. It comes as no surprise, then, that De Gea remained the most popular goalkeeper throughout the entire campaign.

On the eve of Gameweek 1 he was in 32.8% of squads thanks to a favourable run of opening fixtures. They faced West Ham, Swansea, Leicester, Stoke, Everton and Crystal Palace in their first seven matches, with De Gea keeping clean sheets in six of them.

He then followed that up by shutting out a ruthless Liverpool attack in Gameweek 8, taking his average points per match for the season thus far to 6.4 – that’s better than Heaton’s most productive run from last season (6.1 points per match between Gameweek 16 and 23).

He earned a first price rise in Gameweek 7 before jumping to £5.7m in Gameweek 11 on the back of shutting out Tottenham Hotspur and an in-form Harry Kane in Gameweek 10. There was no clean sheet for De Gea when United visited Chelsea but an impressive individual display, with Newcastle at home coming up in Gameweek 12, triggered another increase in cost.

A penalty stop and 14 saves in a 3-1 away win at Arsenal in Gameweek 15 – a joint Premier League record – was another highlight in De Gea’s season.

Bizarrely, though, despite such heroics, the Red Devils’ number one failed to make a single appearance in the Dream Team in any Gameweek last season.

Backing up De Gea’s success was an incredible save percentage (82.1%), higher than any other goalkeeper.

Put into perspective, his total of 116 saves – ranked sixth best in the top-flight – was double the number of Man City’s Ederson (58), who was second only to the Spaniard for both clean sheets (16) and FPL points (158) between the posts.

De Gea also ranked highest for expected goals saved with 11.7. Across the season his average of 4.6 points was bettered only by Phil Jones (5.0) among defensive team-mates but the goalkeeper was far more of a mainstay as Jones spent time on the sidelines with injury.

Which gets us to the crux of his appeal this season: consistency. De Gea played every single minute of United’s 2017/18 campaign apart from the final day, when he was rested only after securing the Golden Glove.

The Prospects

De Gea’s success may well force the hands of Fantasy managers when preparing their squads next season.

The conventional wisdom is to start an FPL campaign with two cheaper goalkeepers to rotate and therefore allow greater spending elsewhere. Yet the Spaniard’s consistency, if it can be maintained, may call for FPL managers to give him greater consideration as a “fire and forget” option over the summer.

There’s no doubt, though, that his popularity was helped by the uncertainty surrounding United’s backline regulars. Antonio Valencia – who began at a hefty 6.5 – was the only defensive team-mate to start more than 30 matches, with 31 appearances.

First for clean sheets and second for goals against (28), Jose Mourinho’s defence will again be big targets for the campaign ahead.

Yet if one or two United defenders come in at a similar price to the Spaniard and can offer the same security of pitch-time, the decision around who to invest in may not be quite so straightforward next time around.

In particular, if a hike in price to 6.0 transpires, the value offered in the sub-5.0 category could force a re-think.

In saying that, it should be noted that, despite his premium price tag, De Gea’s value in terms of points per million (29.2) was identical to Heaton’s in 2016/17, when the Clarets’ stopper was the top value player in the game.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    How much is too much?

On last night's Scoutcast we speculated that Salah's inevitable price rise could prove prohibitive for some managers.

How much is too much for Salah? Is 12m fair, given his record breaking Fantasy feats this season? 13m more realistic? If he is 14m would you look elsewhere?

And what of other players that are set for a price hike?

Is Raheem Sterling still good value at 11m, or even 12m? What is the most you would pay for him?

As we saw this year with KDB a price tag that is set very high can be off putting - but as he showed with his consistent scoring - he was indeed worth it.

How many 10m plus players do you plan getting next season? Loading up on them? Or is spreading the budget better?

I doubt I'll have more than three 10 million + players. I like to keep a good squad balance so probably just Kane, Salah and one other.

Although if the price gap between Salah and KDB is more than 2 million, I'll probably go KDB instead.

I find FPL valuations fascinating - to me, if a player's ownership is over 20% when the season kicks off, they have been priced too cheaply. It's supply and demand. I would like to see the best players more expensive, and the worst FPL options (i.e. DMs) a lot cheaper. Price changes also need to be more reflective - Sanchez being more expensive than Salah at the end of last season is obviously ridiculous.

It would be hard for them to find an alternative pricing structure, that being said I would like to see price changes based on form regardless of transfers in/out so things like Sanchez out pricing players like Salah at the end of the season don't happen as you said, regardless of their "ceiling". God I hate that term.

Agree with the last point Jarvish - the rate at which Sanchez dropped (or didn't) made him a completely useless player except as a punt for chasing packs. He is still a good player and an OK option and the game should be doing more to make him viable, to prevent stagnation and template teams.

Disagree with the first one though. It's not supply and demand. Most people pick the most expensive players because they assume (wrongly) that the price that they are paying quite accurately reflects the returns they will get. If Salah were 15m next season he would still have high ownership because of the psychology behind the selection process requiring many people to have the most expensive asset because they would miss out otherwise.

The old saying goes that you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. In the same way, all FPL assets who stick around for long enough see their starting price, at some point, exceed their actual value (even when captained regularly). It could be argues that we hit peak Kane a year ago, for example, and his development in 18-19 will be fascinating.

I agree about supply and demand. Lots of people bemoaning Kane's price, yet he was popular throughout the season. You're not forced to buy him if he's too expensive.

However, ownership in GW1 isn't the best judge of good pricing, since fixtures play a huge role in people's decisions. I had Bertrand (and Cedric) in GW1 this season due to superior fixtures, but I still thought he was too expensive to keep for other fixtures, and I never saw value in him again. I think that's generalisable to many of us.

I disagree about price changes though. More dramatic changes in price changes the type of game we are playing. The only way I can see a decent way of changing player's prices is to do just that. Change the price to buy based on popularity or other metric, but keep the selling price as the price paid. That way you can move Sanchez down in price by 0.3 each new GW without people being forced to sell him. Just a thought.

          You are so contrary!

Good point about the prices, though I think we could have harsher drops if we got 'paid' better for price rises. Faster price drops but scrapping the rule of halves for rises would work for me.

Anything you can say, I can say the opposite with equal conviction!

I think your solution is a good one in that it solves a problem, but the new problem is that I have check price change websites every day to be competitive, and make more decisions based on price changes than I would like (for a fantasy game about picking the best/favourite players).

It also makes the game less accessible, since the advantage for those with more time on their hands is inflated. (An unpolular opinion of mine). And price changes aren't transparent by design, so it seems foolhardy to make them an even bigger part of the game without giving casuals and experts alike access to definitive price change information.

I've enjoyed the slower rates of change this season to be honest. It allows us to be individuals instead of following the market.

A way to bring players back into the fold would be useful though.I don't know how this could be done without aggressive drops and so maybe it's best to stick to what we know kind of works.

Could adding the halving rule to drops help? If you hold Sanchez and he drops by 0.4 but it only costs you 0.2, then you might be less aggrieved?

I prefer this solution, myself. Though it might be simpler to have no halving rules either way.

However, this only solves the aggrievement problem and actually exacerbates the price drop problem, since people will sell players even slower!

So long as price changes affect your selling price, you can't change one without changing the other.

Greater price changes = more buying and selling (FOMO) = greater price changes = more influence of the market on our teams, and vice versa.

Good point around the fixtures - I guess the only true way to do it would be if we could gauge ownerships before the fixtures were released, which obviously can't happen 🙁

Very interesting the contrasts in how people agree and disagree around different points - as I say, I think the whole subject around prices/changes is fascinating and always a good talking point 🙂 The end result is always the same though - FPL just doing pretty much the same approach as last year!

Kane was popular throughout the season mainly because of the lack of other good forward options.

Lukaku, Morata and Lacazette were shite, Aguero and Jesus were rotated/injured, Firmino and Vardy were streaky. In comparison to these options, if you ignore Kane's price, he was relatively consistent + there's always a FOMO with him here.

These forwards were highly expected to perform when we were planning our teams pre-season, especially Lukaku who was FPL gold before this. So if they had performed better, I'm sure we would've seen more sales with Kane.

I agree. I sold Kane in GW18 and only.brought him back in for GW33-36. One man's FOMO is another man's opportunity. Salah was a good captain alternative to Kane among other options each week. If people own Kane through fear rather than other reasons, then that's their style of management. The fact people owned him still means he wasn't overpriced, even if he wasn't amazing value. Better this way than the other way imo

Besides, you could also say that if Kane performed better (in regards to actual FPL points), more people would have bought him, even if Morata and Lacazette etc weren't such flops.

Unless Liverpool have an unbelievable set of opening fixtures, I think I’d really struggle to pay more than 11.5 or 12 for Salah. Avoided Kane this season until the end of August, due to his price.

Raheem needs to be 10m max in my opinion as he’s such a rotation risk, especially if city further strengthen and around champions league time.

I'm going to get so much hate on this post...

What Salah has achieved this season is fantastic, but one of my biggest bug-bares is FPL slapping huge prices on players who perform fantastically in one season or their debut season. I understand half the fun is finding those hidden gems in the cheap bracket but anything more than 11M for Salah is ridiculous in my personal opinion, especially when DMs can still cost in excess of 5M.

There is a big pool of players to select from so No I don’t see a problem. If fpl players choose to be led by articles into template teams that is up to them but then they are just joining the herd. The one transfer a week limit keeps everyone in check.

High ownership is a problem with captaincy - if you have a highly owned player and don't captain them, you often end up cheering against them - that's anti-FPL to me. Perhaps getting rid of captains is the solution 🙂

Just to add a good example was Sanchez. He was high prices and low owned. A lower price would have increased his ownership and created a wider spread.

Premium doesn't mean the best. There are many flops across the game and when you look at points per value it is frequently your mid-lower price ranged players who will be the ones who come out on top.

Kane for example may blank for three weeks but then pick up a hat-trick so whilst his points across the season look fantastic actually he's not all that good to have (because you may be wasting weeks where you captain him at 2 points doubled to 4 for three weeks).

Spot on. That is my reason for not liking obvious the tendency for over pricing. Another example was Seamus Coleman, way over the top. Again that prevented ‘spread’. There is no need for it.

This massively. Both Coleman and Baines were WAY over-priced as were most Everton defenders. When their season started to crash their market value should have also because who wants an Everton team who shipped the 6th most goals this season (58). Nobody. So why are their defenders so overpriced.

There were interesting discussions in the week about someone doing well with a team of sub-10m players. I would be interested to know how he got on.

For me, 10m+ players are only ever good as captaincy options. I think I will be running with the two likely highest scorers for hedging purposes (Salah and maybe Kane) and spreading the rest out more evenly.

We have seen from dead team and best possible team analysis and that premium defenders present the best value IF you know who to pick - premium attackers tend to be self-selecting which is the danger of hindsight in relation to picking defenders for a new season. Still, they are worthy of the investment saved elsewhere.

There is also a HUGE psychological factor. Ramsey scores a hat trick and everyone dismisses it as a blip. Hazard scores two and he has 'hauled' and becomes 'essential'. Not only is this dangerous but it's harder to fit in more expensive players who are suddenly deemed expensive as teams may have been set up according to another system.

If he's 13 or less it's a no brainer for me. 14 I really have to think about it.

This absolutely. With people already planning teams of kane, Ddg, salah - these should rightfully be priced high so they are no longer 'no brainers'. They got it right last season with no 4.0 nailed defenders too - it shouldn't be easy to get the best team, the more compromises required the more thought required and the better for those of us who choose to put the effort in or even think about points per £!

Think i'll try and get 4 big hitters in and then use funds from one to bring the value players that start well.
Easier to trade down than up.
Wouldn't be taking any City mid over 10m just because i think rotation could be even bigger next season. The new players (B.Silva, Foden)have bedded in well and there will probably be at least 1 more added so that's about 8 to choose from even before adjustments are made if Kun & Jesus start together more often. (injury seemed to them apart for about half the season).
Still wonder whether there is an argument for a price reset on low ownership players halfway through the season. Still need ways to include more players as options.

I think it would make it very interesting if Salah was a 12.5m striker along with Kane. More touches in the penalty box than any player by some distance and he broke the record for goals in a 38-game season. It would be hard to class him as a mid, I think you need to look at Ronaldo in other fantasy games being classed as a forward and have to expect they will do the same with Salah. If he is classed as a mid then I would be willing to pay 13m, perhaps 13.5m.

I must admit if Arnie switches to a forward next season then Salah needs to also, without a shadow of a doubt. The title under FPL is "forward" and Salah is a "forward" in my eyes as is any high playing winger.

Any more than £11m and I'll probably look elsewhere for Salah. He looked very tired in the last 3 or 4 games, and he won't get much rest over summer with the World Cup either. I expect a second-season comedown, at least compared to the levels shown this season. Mane at (hopefully) 9.5 would be better value imo.

I'd pay £10-11m for Sterling though, that team is just going to ooze goals.

I disagree that KDB was worth it this season. I don't think you'd ever captain him with much conviction (I did once and he blanked while Sterling hauled) and his scoring seemed quite erratic.

I think I'll spread the budget a bit more next season; rotation is more of a nightmare than ever and I was caught having to rely on my bench far too often this season, with occasionally having to field 10. A couple of 4.0 fodder defenders doesn't cut it anymore.

Regarding KDB, I consistently had this argument with my brother, I found that he supplied the pass that effectively assisted the assist (he would find a glorious through ball to someone on the right or left side of the box who then squares it for the tap in) so whilst he is a joy to watch play, realistically he is one ball behind the points in this game (in my personal opinion).

Yep, undoubtedly an incredible player but seems to go about his business quietly. I remember looking at his score towards the end of the season and wondering quite how he accrued so many points with little fanfare.

For me, I’m not going to pay 11-12m for a player who has at least 3, maybe 4 players in front of him in the usual formation.

This hugely frustrated me, I backed him all season as a better player than both Sane & Sterling (although I think both out-scored him - off the top of my head), yet because he plays deeper or is the player who splits the defence to allow someone else to pick up the assist he is rarely rewarded in points, because of this his 10M+ price tag was too much IMO. He burned me multiple times when I captained him.

Can see Sterling become a bit like Eriksen and Alli last year, price hike made them less obvious choices and i suspect better value will emerge than Sterling if he's priced as high as 10 or 11m

Maybe Eriksen and Alli will be less next year and with Spurs at their new stadium (if they can keep Poch and add some more quality) they maybe be the stand out picks again.

If he's 12.0m, every man, his wife, and his dog will own him.

At 13.0m there may be more of a debate imo.

Given he's only had 1 season, 14.0m seems a bit much. Granted he scored more than RVP ever did, but RVP was proven over many seasons to be a guaranteed top scorer!

Isn’t 13-14 mil for Salah way too much on the basis of one season? A 4-5m price hike would be way too much. 12-12.5 still seems reasonable.

Guess the ownership at the start of the season will force us to have him in the team other it’s big red arrows if he maintains his form.

Salah at 12.5/13.0 odd million will still be worth it if he can keep up his output. Reliable captaincy pick too. Can't see Kane's price go down too, which makes it difficult to own both.
Someone like Aubamenyang will be priced around 10.5/11 million too. And then there's the City guys. Fitting everyone in would be next to impossible. Personally,I think Salah ,Aubamenyang and

I agree with Az on this point. For Salah, I do not think there is any price that is too high. He looks like the perfect FPL asset and if the bonus point system gets a small change to not punishing lost possession/getting tackled as much as it does now, he will be even better.
Personally, I think he will be 13m at the start of season. And he will be the first player in my team.

For me, Sterling is a bit harder. He still has a little bit of rotation risk hanging over his head so I think 11m is too high.

I will try to limit my starting team to 2 x 10m plus players. I was missing flexibility this season, and it did hurt me.

I think Salah should be 13M. Sterling 11M. Both would be considered at those prices, but not definites for me.

I think Perez will have the biggest (relative) price hike. Finished in the striker table between between Jesus & Morata at just 5.5M.

More than 12m is too much based on one season. Sterling at 11m given Pep risk - no. KDB started at 10m and ended on 10.3m.

Based on the fact that Salah has not only had a fantastic FPL season, but the best FPL season of all time, he should realistically be at least 13m given that Aguero, Suarez, RvP, etc. reached that price tag and he has done even better than all of them.

But the difference is they were doing it consistently for multiple seasons, whereas we don't know how Salah will do next season. At 13m, I'm not sure I'll get him in from the start. At 14m, I definitely won't.

I think Sterling shouldn't be more than 10.5m, because again, we have no idea if he'll replicate this form next season. Alli and Eriksen last season were very consistent, this season they raised their prices to 9.5m, and they were meh. Alli particularly meh. Sterling is not exactly a great player or world class. He's a decent player playing for a great team, plus he's not 100% nailed. I think at 11m or more, he'll probably fail.

I usually don't get more than 3 players that are 10m+, so it'll be the same this season.

I always make the huge mistake of thinking that premium mids and forwards don’t blank. We all know Azp or Otamendi type premium defs are going to do well, yet most want to downgrade to fit in a misfiring Kane or Lukaku that rarely gets double figures.

My best season I went big on premium defs, gonna try a no one over 10 mill next season...

Neither Azpi nor Otamendi were season keepers though. They were great options early on but eventually we had to sell them because they went dry.

Many defenders were doing well early on, including Davies, Jones, Kolasinac. They all dried up. That's when everyone started shifting to 3-5-2 when many mids started delivering. I started with 5-3-2 myself and it worked well initially, but I had to transition to 3-5-2 eventually.

I think every season is different. Premium defenders may or may not be the best source of points next season, but nothing is a given.

They were season keepers, look how many points they got over the whole season for their points.

I guess I was trying to say that premium players have to score every week to be worth it, but they don't.

What should be understood is that this was Salah's 1st season where he appeared in over 30 league games and to price him 13m will be too much. An 11-11.5 evaluation would be more reflective imo.

Sterling should be priced around 10.5-11. KDB was over priced for an assist monger and assister to the assister role he played at times.

I guess the start of the season 8-9 players in your starting 11 should be fixture based and 2-3 heavy hitters is somewhat a decent mix.

        RE Bonus system and Salah

If think the system is fine. Salah has scored a crazy number of goals for a mid but he is still a mid and not a striker. The system takes account of what a mid should do.

If Salah is a classed as a forward as many suggest, he will get more BPS for a goal and therefore more BAPS. It worked pretty well for Firmino this year.

Would pay anything up to 15m for him as he'll be my captain every week, I think he'll be 12.5-13m realistically. Won't have any other 10m+ players in my team though.

Lost in all of this is what awful value most of the premium players were this season. Only four players averaged over 6.0 PPM:
        Salah 8.4
        Sterling 6.9
        Aguero 6.8
        Aubameyang 6.7

        Kane 5.9
        D Silva 5.8

With Aguero being injured not long after Auba showed up, we basically had a total of three excellent performers: a typically expensive striker in Aguero or Aubameyang, an otherworldy Salah classified as a midfielder, and a Sterling so fortuitously OOP his heat map is a cloud of pixie dust in the other team's net.

Not sure if this is a one off because of a tepid title/top 4 challenge, or if the power of the big six to hoard players is having more of an impact on both their own and the rest of the league's squads to produce premium FPL players, or it's a combination, but it is something worth watching for next season.

          2017/18: Salah 8.4, Sterling 6.9, Aguero 6.8, Aubameyang 6.7
          2016/17: Kane 7.5, Sanchez 6.9, Jesus 6.7, Hazard 6.2, Eriksen & Alli 6.1, Lukaku 6.0
          2015/16: Mahrez 6.5, Aguero 6.1
          2014/15: Aguero 6.5, Hazard 6.1, Silva 6.0
          2013/14: Suarez 8.9, Yaya Toure 6.9, Sturridge & Aguero 6.8, Rooney 6.6, Ramsey 6.3, Gerrard 6.0
          2012/13: Bale 7.5, van Persie 6.9, Suarez 6.4, Walcott & Mata 6.1
          2011/12: Cisse 7.5, van Persie 7.1, Rooney 6.8, Aguero 6.2
          2010/11: van Persie 6.3, Tevez & Nani 6.0
          2009/10: Lampard & Fabregas 7.9, Drogba 7.6, Rooney 7.0, van Persie 6.6, Torres 6.4, Tevez & Arteta 6.0

So it does appear to vary quite a bit from year to year.
Three seasons with fewer than 4 players at 6.0+, two with 4 and four with more than 4.

Think Salah will be 12.5 / 13 M I wonder if the world cup will influence at all in price setting?

Sterling will be 9.5 or 10 similar to eriksen and ali in season before so don't think will rise that much

I will have 2 plus 10M , but if there is a couple of good enablers that score ok I in 3 weeks that could change

Arnie could be one that is out priced if went more than 8.5 but a lot will depend on where he plays if still a ' forward'

I think Kane will stay the same, sanchez could be interesting if say 10M

there are always a few supprises in the prices

Guys, remember that it was confirmed that FPL will be checking this website for some indications of price adjustments - with that in mind, I think Salah will be 11m, Aubameyang 10.5, Sterling 9.5 and Mane 8.5, to give a few examples 😉

Can see myself getting a few expensive players and hopefully a cheap 3rd striker/5th mid to rotate.
Being able to switch RLC and DCL helped for a period this year, so could hopefully own Salah, Kane and Auba next year

          I can't believe DCL didn't get consistent game time. Especially at the start of the season (the following makes no sense);
          GW1 - 90 mins - Assist (5 points)
          GW2 - 90 mins - Assist (5 points)
          GW3 - Dropped to 28 mins - 1 point
          GW4 - 45 min run out - 1 point
          GW5 - 14 mins - 1 point

Why would you reduce someones minutes who effectively delivered (and I personally thought played well) in the first two games of the season. GW 6 & 7 he was given 90 mins again and he then scored in GW8 (game or two to re-find form & flow?) this is considering he is a very young player also.

As Cokey alludes to above, Salah's value at any price depends on the price of other players.

13m could be great value if there are no captaincy alternatives that offer the same doubled points per million.

13m could be relatively poor value if Kane is only 11m and there are 5 big hitting midfielders at 9.0m, for example.

Everything depends on the price of every player (assuming they are relevant players).

Personally, I tend to be one of the first to attempt to avoid the most premium players to see if I can make the points up elsewhere, but I also seem to have above average captaincy fail, so I may try to remedy that next season by getting Salah assuming there is no obvious better way to spend the money. That said, I tried to remedy it this season by captaining Kane consistently at the beginning, and with Lukaku and Salah the better and cheaper options, I still got too many captaincy fails.

Just gotta wait and see concerning

I think this is super difficult before seeing the other prices and if there are any budget options.

However, for a boring player like me, if salah has 40% owned? Then he could cost 15 million and I'll probably bring him in, the game for me isn't about second guessing, it's about cutting your losses.

However, forgetting all that, if I wasn't proud dullard, then I would probably go without and try and find better value. However I'd rather have a budget of a couple of 10+ and then mid priced players to switch up the team if needed.

If he even comes close to replicating this seaso, and delivery a ppg at around 8, then yeah, hes worth it. The value of captaincy would prob give people the case to argue that he would be worth investing in, at an even higher price than the 14.0 picetag mentioned at the SC.

Only problem is that he delivered a season thats really hard to replicate! So his worth as an asset would be very diminished if he went from spectacular to "just great". Just look at Kane this season and all the stick he's gotten, and still he picked up 217pts.

My guess is its prob gonna take 10+ gameweeks to figure out wether he deserves his new price or not.

I'll prob have one or two 10+ players at the start of the season, but that should do it.

I think 13 should be the max for the top player and then work down from there. So, next season, Salah should be the 13.0 player, then Kane maybe 12.0 or 12.5 and work down from there

Extrapolating his predicted returns from his xG and xA, I would happily pay 15m for Salah as a midfielder and 13.5m as a forward.

Sterling I would pay up to 11m.

I think Auba @ 11m is priced about right, my feeling is they will bump him to 12 which would be too high for me if I have no plans to captain him regularly.

Should price rises be based on a player's GW score rather than transfers in? It could stop panic buying.

For example, if a player got in the team of the week, he gets 0.1m rise. Or if he gets 0pts he gets a 0.1m drop.

      Could something like that work?

Yeah, it does feel a bit flawed.

If a key CB in a big team was out for the season, everyone would get their replacement for cheap, with no rise...

          Just an idea 🙂

Maybe an adjustment of how transfers are rolled from one GW into the next.
Don't see much wrong with a total reset when each GW deadline passes.

Look at the system MLS fantasy has, tranfers become locked during the game week, and prices do indeed rise or fall depending on performance!

I preferred it because you didn't need to worry about price changes or falling over the whole week. But maybe we would miss thag part of the game?

If you look at what he did with Everton pre-investment, even a CL finish and multiple Europa League finishes I do not understand why we haven't kept him on. I will openly admit I'm gutted, I think the style of football we were playing started to improve again, he got the best out of Arnie (wouldn't be surprised to lose him to where Moyes goes next if he stays in the prem), and we started getting results (could've finished 10th had Palace and Newcastle lost the last game of the season rather than won - which would've been incredible given our appalling start to the season).

Rumours that Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey could be in the squad.

Apparently it is seen as a "long shot", but the 20-year-old has lit up the Bundesliga this season and could reportedly qualify by virtue of having two grandparents with English passports.

He was born in Jamaica but has only represented them once at Under-23 level.

Glad to see DDG in the TOTY.
Had him all season apart from GWs14 to 17.
The double up with Valencia for the first 13 GWs got me a lotta points.
I'm not one for working out points per value or whatever it's called, there's a lot to be said for set-and-forget premium priced GKs and Defs.

I tried this set-and-forget business. Got Courtois for a few GWs, who was easily outscored by Pickford in that time, with Alonso scoring a bunch of goals. Fine, I thought, the obvious thing was to replace him with Pickford (with the then-rejuvenated Everton defence) and get Alonso instead. Pickford goes on a run of 8-9 games without a clean sheet, and I didn't get a single goal from Alonso (who was outscored by Courtois in that time 😛 ).

In fact I had more own goals from defenders this year than goals! 😀

Haha, Moyes back to Everton is a good shout actually! From an FPL point of view I'm sad to see him leave West Ham though, especially if Arnautovic is reclassified as a forward next season, but the next manager uses him as a winger/mid.

      Pickford

        Pickford
        Trip Walk Stones Cahil Rose
        Dier Henderson

Not what I'd pick, but what I think he'll try.

        For me:

        Pope
        Walker Maguire Jones
        Trippier Dier Hendo Rose
        Kane Sterling Rashford

But I don't think Pope will get the start.

Could see Alli starting instead of Rashford, playing behind Kane Sterling.

Vardy, Lingard good options off the bench

Jonty should be delighted - a magic bean and Terence Trent-Derby in the squad!

It looks fairly strong in the attacking positions, wing backs, and the correct keepers are going IMO. However the central midfield is woefully short of creativity, and 3 of the centre backs are susceptible to injury, which is risky.

How Welbeck found his way into the squad is beyond me. I suppose though if you want someone to miss his header and shoulder the ball into the net, or shin a volley into the ground which somehow loops over the keeper, then he is the man for the job.

Goalkeepers are interchangeable depending on opponent - Pickford against lighter opposition, Butland/Pope when saves are reuqired. No opinion here other then glad Hart isn’t going, don’t want bad habits there.
        Walker, Stones, Maguire.
Trippier for offence, TAA for his physical attributes.
Young for defence, Rose for more attacking
Henderson and Dier will probably be the two but I’d like to see loftus for the easier games.
Front 3 of sterling Ali and Kane. Vardy and Rashford good options for pace on the break. Welbeck for workhorse if we are slinging crosses in.

Best of a bad bunch really.

Would like to see Vardy starting personally. If that's at the expense of Kane, so be it. Kane can come on for quality on set pieces and a good 'strike of the ball' to find a winner. I know most would want it the other way round: Vardy against tired legs. But I think you can trust the consistency of Vardy to set the momentum in the game, and he's also a quality finisher.

I'd also like to see RLC play a major part, though some will say it's too early. As far up the pitch as possible, too. One side of the front three; on the wing; one of 3 CMs; or if needs be, the box-to-box mid in a 2. He's just one of a few players I like who's used to fighting for survival in recent times -as opposed to coasting at a top team - and he's done it with a little flair, too.

I posted a sort of England "B Team" 2 or 3 weeks ago, which I thought would be better than whichever A team is actually prefered at the WC:

        Shart
        Walker Maguire Tarkowski Bertrand
        Sterling Drinkwater Shelvey* RLC
        Lingard
        Vardy

Hart is a bit of a joke, so replace him with your chosen keep (Pope!), and replace the whole back line if you want. Switch drinkwater for Dier if necessary, and I think you have a team with some mettle, pace and and good footablling ability.

*Damn, I just noticed Shelvey's not in there. Shame for him.

Probably 352, think Vardy deserves a start:
        Pope
        Maguire - Stones - Walker
        Young - Dier - Henderson - Trippier
        Sterling (in behind)
        Kane - Vardy

Our Central mid is really poor. Shame Milner isn’t going, better than the rest. I’d start Ox if fit.

There is one thing that most England fans don't seem to understand - we are crap. We cannot compete with Germany, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, France etc. We aren't even as good as Portugal and their tactic is to park the bus and get the ball to Ronaldo to do something. We need to be realistic and play like Greece in Euro 2004 - defend well and look to win 1-0.My preferred team is something like the below - it is defensive, but that is because when we play someone decent we are going to have almost none of the ball and we need to try to score from set pieces on counter attacks. We will need to be defensive. I laugh when England fans say we should be trying to go toe-to-toe with the big guns. We will get smashed. We couldn't even beat Iceland at the last Euros and Costa Rica at the last World Cup.

        Pickford
        Stones Jones Maguire
        Walker Henderson Dier Rose
        Sterling Vardy Rashford

So many going with Pickford. He had some shocker on the final day. I hope it hasnt effected his confidence. Three inexperienced keepers, but I actually think Pope might be the one to handle the pressure the better.
I watch an awful lot of football and I've been so impressed with one midfielder over the past few months! A player that I never liked but also hadn't realised how gifted he actually is - John Joe Shelvey! Criminal that he most likely will not make the squad!

thats what i would select. Cant say i believe Southgate will choose 5 out of those though in first 2 critical games.
